#admin2b Jessica Pass- Elementary Principal in Boone County, Kentucky! HI everyone!
  • Dixie_Principal Oct 1 @ 8:07 PM EDT
to me it is people working together towards a common goal. Through the collaboration, they share their expertise, experiences, knowledge to attain the goal. #admin2b
  • litchick_ky Oct 1 @ 8:08 PM EDT

  • JPassItOn - Moderator Oct 1 @ 8:08 PM EDT
#admin2b Collaboration looks different for different situations. I think it means that two people are working together to achieve a common goal! @Jstef15 want to weigh in?
  • Dixie_Principal Oct 1 @ 8:09 PM EDT
In PLC work in schools, we focus on four essential questions; 1. what do we want students to know 2. how do we know if they know it 3. what do we do if they don't know it 4. what do we do if they do know it. #admin2b

  • benlamp83 Oct 1 @ 8:11 PM EDT
A1: collaboration to me is getting together with people from different areas, with different experiences, and working to solve problems or create new experiences for Ss. #admin2b
  • Dixie_Principal Oct 1 @ 8:11 PM EDT
So it seems that a common goal is something that is important. I wonder as admin, how do we create that common goal? For me it goes back to 4 questions of PLC. #admin2b

A1: Collaboration is working as a team towards a common goal—doing what’s best for students. This doesn’t just exist with just content, at the classroom level, but day-to-day collaboration with all parties in the building. #admin2b
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Oct 1 @ 8:15 PM EDT
#admin2b to create a common goal, you have to see what you have in common with your team! As aspiring admin, I would encourage you to work hard with your team to be a leader, not an authority.
  • Dixie_Principal Oct 1 @ 8:15 PM EDT
Q2: when i think of students and ideal collaboration, i think of authentic PBL projects that empower students to research, create, explain, and solve something to then present product to authentic audience #admin2b

  • GenieneD - Moderator Oct 1 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A2. If you've never had kids collaborative together. #kagan is a great place to start. Students engaged with each other and accountable for their tasks. #admin2b

  • Mr_S_EES Oct 1 @ 8:18 PM EDT
@JPassItOn A1: #admin2b collaboration occurs when individuals are team focused and use their experiences and strengths for the greater good. Seeking to learn and work together for a common purpose or goal.
  • DxBenton Oct 1 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A2: Strong sense of purpose in lessons and work in the classroom. Clear goals and expectations. Adults working together for all students. #admin2B
  • RingDixie Oct 1 @ 8:18 PM EDT
#admin2b A2. The students should view us as equals not lead and subordinate. A good collab situation is partnership.
  • benlamp83 Oct 1 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A2: Collaboration among Ss can be working together on a large project, or working across disciplines in authentic experiences #admin2b
  • PattiWesterfie1 Oct 1 @ 8:19 PM EDT
Q2: I think collaboration for students starts with accountability as a group memeber. Also students need to learn how to listen to each other and respect each other's opinion. They should be able to question and defend their ideas #Admin2b
  • Dixie_Principal Oct 1 @ 8:19 PM EDT
I love the Kagan structures. if done well, it creates a team within the classroom where everyone's voice is valued. #admin2b

A2 #admin2b In order to do this, time needs to be built into the day to collaborate. It takes time to do this right.
  • Dixie_Principal Oct 1 @ 8:21 PM EDT
Welcome Amy! So very true with the partnership. Giving everyone a voice is important in collaboration, regardless of titles! #admin2b

Q3: SO MANY ANSWERS! Because two people's perspectives, strengths and experiences are more powerful than one person's! Because a teacher's job is so important and so demanding that you can't afford not to! #admin2b
  • RingDixie Oct 1 @ 8:23 PM EDT
A3. #admin2b Creativity creates creativity. When we work together, we become better.
  • PattiWesterfie1 Oct 1 @ 8:24 PM EDT
Q3: Teacher should collaborate to be the best teacher they can be. To model for students that we continue to learn. When they see our excitement, it makes them excited to learn! #Admin2b
  • benlamp83 Oct 1 @ 8:24 PM EDT
A3: When teacher collaborate it can create richer experiences for the students, also can foster teacher relationships and common goals. When we start pulling in the same direction good things start to happen. #admin2b
  • Dixie_Principal Oct 1 @ 8:24 PM EDT
A3: teachers should be collaborating to improve on their professional practices. We need to be transparent with each other and leverage each others abilities to improve our teaching. #admin2b
  • Dixie_Principal Oct 1 @ 8:25 PM EDT
    Last question. #admin2b
  • toglesDHHS Oct 1 @ 8:25 PM EDT
A2: For Ss, it’s a chance to get them working outside their comfort zone. Not always w/ people who look like them, share interests, but if a project is sold correctly, you’re creating a common goal (1/2). #admin2b
  • DxBenton Oct 1 @ 8:27 PM EDT
A3: Work smarter, not harder. As educators we need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel and utilize proven strategies with purpose and intentionality to maximize effectiveness. #admin2b
  • GenieneD - Moderator Oct 1 @ 8:27 PM EDT
a3. Gone are the days of T's behind closed doors/isolated islands. Collaboration equals school success, not classroom success. It's should depend on the strength of others (multiplier effect= gr8 book). #admin2b
  • toglesDHHS Oct 1 @ 8:27 PM EDT
A2: (2/2) You don’t have to look far in a room of 30 to find some differences you can expose your kids. Part of collaboration is working with others to gain perspective. That can only help achieve this common goal we all agree is important. #admin2b
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Oct 1 @ 8:27 PM EDT
The more we collaborate, the richer the experience for the student! I think this goes for grade-level collaboration with special areas as well!! If our teaching helps students to discover strengths and make connections across contents and skills, students are empowered! #admin2b

A4: It is a quick way to expose my thinking to new ideas or perspectives with minimal effort or time requirements for people who are already exhausted after working all day :) PLNs CONNECT people and ideas!! #admin2b
  • RingDixie Oct 1 @ 8:31 PM EDT
A4. #admin2b of course it would be advantageous to work with your own PLN. The logistics get fuzzy though. How, when? How to help our younglings find good people?
  • litchick_ky Oct 1 @ 8:31 PM EDT
A2 It should be similar for students, just messier. Definite need for guidance in how to collaborate #admin2b

  • toglesDHHS Oct 1 @ 8:33 PM EDT
A3: We collaborate because we can’t achieve more in isolation. We need others to help us stay grounded, accountable, but also to offer encouragement. #admin2b
  • PattiWesterfie1 Oct 1 @ 8:33 PM EDT
