Good morning! Ben her from North Carolina. Math & Physics teacher. Everyone ready for a great week?
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Good morning ! It's Spirit Week for - I'm up and ready to get my spirit on!

Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Today's question roles right into my plans for the day. https://t.co/A0O8J83EnV
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Good Morning Dave a long term sub from BostonI checking in.
hope y'all had a nice weekend!
Good morning from CT! We are getting ready for the this weekend!
Went to the Big E yesterday!
Hard start, . Mom takes the train in Elizabeth, and a fatal car accident overnight for a local family. Expecting a hard day today. :(
Not only are there icoaches, there are dedicated spaces for collaboration. https://t.co/1yGkBgyave
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
For collaboration, we have time built into our schedules to meet with team and departmental colleagues
We have done makerspace projects that can be completed only through collaboration.
Does having 100+ seniors decorating a hallway count as collaboration? They have been working like mad for weeks
Good morning ! Stacey from NJ where I am a tech coach.
Love this Q! All classes are co-taught: 1 STEM & 1 Humanities T on a rotating schedule. We also meet 2x per week as an entire staff.
We have made real efforts at this. Core 4 has collab planning time. 1 Monday a month we go through the FAME protocol. Also CFIB.
Good morning, Bonnie checking in from CT
I want more time to meet with colleagues, however; so many great ideas out there
There is no time built in for collaboration. We have to make it happen or it doesn't. It's hard.
Good morning Ready to start another great week!
In my college classes, there is plenty of group work both in class and outside of class.
2x a week?! wow. What do you do?
Will be thinking of you all day. Rough.
Good morning! First of the school year for me. Cathy, Grade 8 ELA in NJ.
Thoughts are with you. *virtual hugs*
I'll be praying. So sorry to hear that.
Good morning, ! Mike from NC here on this beautiful Monday morning
Just don't know what to expect. But have to admit, I'm a bit rattled this AM.
One thing we've started doing more regularly is pop-ins. Opportunities to see other Ts in action. https://t.co/uSYNv3iz90
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Good Morning from Georgia - I cannot wait to hear some answers to today's topic. https://t.co/gZEktXGXzu
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Good morning everyone :-) It's still dark here in NJ but I actually slept last night. YAY!
. good morning! This is the best place to start your day, week, career
We really don't have collaboration at the elementary level. It is up to Ts to make it happen really.
Yup. Days like this are just awful. Just awful. One moment at a time.
We have a communal table that we have lunch on. It forces us to sit together and plan collaboratively
good morning, friend to the south - do you have rain yet?
Good morning, friends. Ready for another week?
Hello my friend! Thanks for being my reason to :)
We made T-2-T collab a core principle of & redesigned our schedule to make it happen. Critical Friends style. Game changer!
This year as a reading specialist, I'll be doing more push in than pull out so I'm expecting more collaboration than ever.
Welcome Cathy! Hope you are having a great start to your year!
crazy world we live in now. So sorry you are starting the week this way.
FAME=Formative assessment for MD Educators. Today we kickoff. 1nce a month collaborative planning and reflection.
In my field classroom (pullout Eng), partners are a common sight.
And it's HARD to make it happen usually!
I have been starting the day with small team meetings, as Ss learn to reflect on recent happenings and learn to listen and share.
Small district, hard to schedule common planning time. Some staff is used at every level.
I'm not familiar with the FAME protocol. What is it?
It sounds like it. Sorry to hear
I wish that there were more Ps out there that gave release time for teachers to meet. Best PD! https://t.co/PIu0Ty79BL
There is no time built in for collaboration. We have to make it happen or it doesn't. It's hard.
Good morning from Massachusetts .
Brian, HS principal
good morning in our ms 1 goal is for teachers to visit other teachers first visit will be done by nov faculty mtg.
I work in a great district. W/in my ELA dept we can work on Genius hour PD along or w/ others, but we always help e/o
So very true! Hard with everyone's schedules.
We have weekly team meetings and meet as a faculty every other week. Twice a year we do cross grade meetings to talk about progress
Great Q today! We began instructional rounds @ our school last yr. Faculty chooses topics to research, learns w/ small grp, peer obs
It helps to have common planning time, but for me collaboration happens bottom up rather than top down. My team WANTS to do it.
We are beginning to research PLC format & protocols to determine how to make them work for our Ts to impact our Ss
Ts at the MS also have all non-teaching times in common. Great for team, grade level and dpt collaboration!
My school has reduced the # of faculty meetings throughout the year to allow for curric collab days
My kids school opened late every Wednesday.
One thing I think has really gotten right is their device initiative. Rather than 1:1, the district is rolling out 1:3
One approach for school cultures where collaboration is lagging could be to mandate it as part of professional development plans.
Happy Monday ... it is a teacher workday... actually it is dig deeper into the data day. I will still ...positivity
we are also starting edCamp faculty mtgs. First one is today!
That's where we started. A few began & others saw the power. So critical to break down the walls of isolation!
FAME protocol? Does that mean you dance on the cafeteria tables? BAHAHA!
Our district allows a good deal of prof latitude. Have done weekly student-reading buddies w/ PreK, as well as grade level projects
Good morning!! Ready for a new week!!!!
We have a T2T peer observation form for Ts t come in and see others at work, really opens up your world https://t.co/SmtdOlOROR
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Great district: also provides PLC funding.
Oh we have a faculty meeting once a week. Sometimes we can do collaboration. It is nothing on a schedule though.
We have weekly team meetings and collaboration time during Friday PD. Our Ts love to collaborate - before school, lunch time, etc
I like this idea. Thank you for sharing.
Collaboration helps students make connections and is an essential part of building a strong team.
What a nice and simple idea to promote collaboration!
Good morning 6th grade math & science teacher checking in
No matter what we do, I dont think it can really be enough. Teachers need time with other teachers.
Not yet, but it will definitely be a pulled back hair day. .
Im starting our FAME program today.
ours have that by team, and common time as a MS department as well
I agree - our Ts love to work together - it's the culture of the school
At our middle schools team time is built into the day
I would love to see some peer observations this year. Admin is on board, just need to figure out scheduling!
Nope. It is just once a week. Some school around here have early dismissal 1xweek. Idk if they have to go longer.
Common planning time part of master schedule
We have a triple track school with FRE/ENG/OJIBWE. Hard to schedule co-planning time-near impossible. https://t.co/Z8rp4c9bai
Ts at the MS also have all non-teaching times in common. Great for team, grade level and dpt collaboration!
We also have common planning time most days. Not full team because of duties, but at least 2x/week.
interesting my child's school releases early every Wed. - I wonder if before/after preferred?
I mean, that happens everyday at my school...doesnt it happen at yours?
We always ensure meetings are done per a protocol (https://t.co/WNMZYlY9QJ ) to drive intentional efficiency & focus.
Amen! https://t.co/kV5LNibTfl
No matter what we do, I dont think it can really be enough. Teachers need time with other teachers.
This year, I am on the innovation team led by w/ Great opportunities for collab!
Sry, misread Q: I took peer collaboration as encouraging it among Ss. Like to see more of that esp w/o T direction
Thanks for making me smile everyday!!! Life is sweeter with you in it.
I sure would like to hear about how that goes
Our school has an open door policy, any T can pop in to observe, we are going to try let's see how it works
oh, yeah - definitely a clippy day
We do have common planning with our own grade level.
We had instructional rounds too. Great opportunity to see other schools and learn from fellow Ts.
We are slowly shifting the culture here but that's still a major obstacle. One step at a time
And this would be why we are all up so early! :) https://t.co/CTFMyvdyZe
No matter what we do, I dont think it can really be enough. Teachers need time with other teachers.
The pineapple chart helps foster collaboration
We release early on Friday - from 12:00 to 2:30 we have PD/collaboration time.
We have a PLC block every other day
Not really. Just trying to be ecumenical in my sharing:)
By doing 1:3, they're better able to promote classroom collaboration because it really becomes necessity
Teachers who collaborate well model this practice for students
I wish we could get more teachers observing each other without the weirdness of peer observation.
is now trending in USA, ranking 4
Started activities last yr. Different way of thinking for the Ss They loved working 2gether 2 solve prob & make adjustments
We have a different bell schedule for each grade. Still trying to figure it out.
Why yes! My staff was on stage at assembly dancing on Friday actually! lol
One thing is that we shouldn't need district support for peer collaboration. We should just do it.
I think it is! :) It took us a long time to get here, but it is an absolute game changer!
Yes, some of the best PD I've had. Amazing how you can be right next door to someone, but never see what they do
By extending access to our elementary school students. So grateful! Good Morning from Raleigh, NC, . https://t.co/zXXZrMjJ1d
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Aww...I really needed that. The feeling is mutual my friend. Have a super duper week!
As the librarian, I collaborate thru-out the whole building (and even across buildings at times)
I guess I misunderstood the Q...I was referring to S peer collaboration! Sorry! 😊
I think that principals like who offer Ts connection tools like Voxer are brilliant!
Good morning ! We do our best to incorp team time during the day but would love to find creative ways to do it better.
I'm gonna say not today. Next time.
Collaboration only truly happens when people want to collaborate ... mandating only has people going through the motions
Time given for peer observation and followup discussion promotes peer collaboration.
Well is just brilliant period. We already knew this though.
no! No! Say no to the rollers! I'm sweating just thinking about them
When lack of time collaboration = giving of information, lesson etc. Not collaborating together to produce.
many Ts at my school love the PLC time but for others it's a tough change
I absolutely LOVE my faculty group in . Started it last year & Ts share what they're reading each week
Contractual faculty time should be for collaboration not memo-in-person.
Teachers need to trust that what they share and who they share it with will be valued and reappropriated respectfully
sounds like an impactful idea - I would love to share with others. Gracias!
An effective approach for resistant is to partner-up w/ another T and approach admin together.
I agree or it become giving of things which is not collaboration.
I worry that whenever something is mandated, there's push back. Giving support (time, coaching) might help
Maybe a voxer group or a group in Schoology or Edmodo?
As a district every teacher is placed in a triad for peer observations and collaborative time. Plus we have PLC at grade levels
I take it today is talk like a pirate day?
I found the more people do it,the more normal it becomes.Adults dropping in&out of my room last yr was no big deal for Ss
Definitely worth all of the work to get to that place I'm sure. Kudos
Here is an example of how you can begin T-2-T collab beyond your school: https://t.co/j3Sb39y3G7 . This, IMO, is the secret sauce!
Oh..so you attended our first PA Day at my school? *snore* https://t.co/rR28riHTjQ
Contractual faculty time should be for collaboration not memo-in-person.
I find our staff to be very supportive, as I am new...always willing to offer anything I need. I believe collaboration is coming!
Yes! https://t.co/w56QUvY5T9
Teachers need to trust that what they share and who they share it with will be valued and reappropriated respectfully
What does your innovation team do primarily? Sounds interesting!
FAME is a program we have in MD to help teachers implement Formative Assessment. Today we start.
Good morning! In my district we do Twitter Tues., and we are doing mini-EdCamps for 3 of our district PD days.
trust needed our communal lunch helps build that so peer collaboration continues beyond table
Thankful for those "resource" teachers in our bldg. who are open to that. Then the day for Ss isn't so chopped up.
cross grades meeting s are great, we are collecting Ss work to do it this year
that was my understanding too
Does common planning time encourage collaboration or does it become a way to make sure everyone is on the same page?
True! We actually do a lot of it on our own in the staff room at lunchtime. https://t.co/7d9NClbB66
Collaboration only truly happens when people want to collaborate ... mandating only has people going through the motions
What does Twitter Tuesdays entail?
what makes it weird? Maybe instructional rounds? has been working with them for a while
We love peer observations and we hire subs or I cover classes for them. It is such a great tool for Ts https://t.co/EAIQaQwwAK
I would love to see some peer observations this year. Admin is on board, just need to figure out scheduling!
They have this in our 4-5 schools. Twice a week planning, collaboration, learning... It's a great model.
Ts are often so overworked that unless they're given time, it may not happen
Productive teacher work groups like the ones and are on = another great way for Ts to collab to help Ss
Aye! Ye be correct! And To Celebrate, I'm eating lunch at Arrrrrrrrrby's
What super ideas for peer/professional collaboration today - thanks
that's great! We like hosting mini Edcamps as well and Ts love it
Some teachers are resistant to the idea of collaboration w/peers. How do you overcome that?
as a dept leader my task is to "electrify" the environment in PLC to entice participation
True, but admin should still provide time to begin paving the way for those who want to collaborate
Professional Learning Communities: Research, Plan, Execute. Across disciplines. Year-long.
Many school communities are congenial around the lunch table, but it might take a push to get to collegial.
This is an excellent question. It could go either way depending upon what the team of Ts decide upon
I'd like to know more about Twitter Tuesdays too. https://t.co/AHAoPyjORb
Good morning! In my district we do Twitter Tues., and we are doing mini-EdCamps for 3 of our district PD days.
or the admin overseeing the team
Ts or Admin who want to moderate a chat sign up, help promote, & we chat at the same time. Tweetdeck helps!
yes share lessons, how diffrent Ss are in different classes, support https://t.co/QXS7TyQYWg
No matter what we do, I dont think it can really be enough. Teachers need time with other teachers.
We use apps that help us share & collaborate on documents/lessons/activities.
https://t.co/ZSCzg2DgGc
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
they have this in my 4-5 schools. Twice a week, planning, collaboration, learning...
We have weekly district mandated PLT's.
I LOVE the idea of instructional rounds.
I think you brought up a valid point.
We called ours Assessment for Learning or A4L-that was when we did instructional rounds with other schools. https://t.co/k9Oztpi8LA
FAME is a program we have in MD to help teachers implement Formative Assessment. Today we start.
yes !!!!! https://t.co/hjbJV4ilx4
We love peer observations and we hire subs or I cover classes for them. It is such a great tool for Ts https://t.co/EAIQaQwwAK
I would love to see some peer observations this year. Admin is on board, just need to figure out scheduling!
that's awesome, best feeling when you receive support from Ts, I'm glad for you
this is also the case for happy hour. teachers need to talk to each other.
Have to run early today, . Too many balls in the air.
Thank you for the kind words. See you tomorrow..
It IS the best PD. Builds trust and rapport among peers & your school's capacity to impact Ss. https://t.co/GGgioA7LOy
if I remember, I'll take a pic of the schedule. It's interesting.
Need to get going to at school and beyond. Have an awesome one, Friends!
Love the hashtag A4L!!!

you weren't the only one Chris - that was my thought too!
You have to make time for it or it is an easy thing to get put on the back burner even though it is so important
Sounds great! I want to do lead an edcamp at my school.
By having specials Ts join grade level PLT meetings to better integrate learning for Ss. Good Morning, . https://t.co/zXXZrMjJ1d
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Model with those that are positive. Sometimes others see results & want to try. Also reach out with support
Yes we just had our first Friday afternoon. Great way to promote team spirit ! https://t.co/aDX9m2Q6pl
this is also the case for happy hour. teachers need to talk to each other.
Sounds great. We've done several for our faculty but usually only once a month.
Okay folks. I gotta run. Be well and
Has anyone here ever organized a get together?
Wow, that's a luxury we don't have in my D! I'm jealous! So important to learn from peers! https://t.co/816UDL7762
We love peer observations and we hire subs or I cover classes for them. It is such a great tool for Ts https://t.co/EAIQaQwwAK
I would love to see some peer observations this year. Admin is on board, just need to figure out scheduling!
Yes!! If we don't lead by example then we are doing ourselves the injustice. Ss will not see this elsewhere https://t.co/09KGfqPmU2
Teachers who collaborate well model this practice for students
Ts and Admin sign up & we do simultaneous chats. Same Bat time, different Bat hashtags. Tweetdeck help participate!
I have to run. Have a great day!
I agree congenial and collaborative are different however physical space can be the conduit to latter
my school does but that doesnt mean every person equally contributes ... the desire has to be there or its uninspired
We've found that those Ts will see that they are missing out as we continue to collaborate
Best to you during a tough time.

We just started using Eager to see how it goes!
How do they work? Are they teacher driven or district driven? It would make a huge difference!
Each GL has their own common time and many on different GLs also have the opportunity to meet.
Reply: promote w PLN development on SM: Twitter; w professional development workshop shares; with shared SLOs strategies
We are trying to do 2 a month.
Indeed! Although we don't use the signs...it's an expectation of every T at our school.
This.
Such an important distinction.
https://t.co/FLRtM7jxaW
Many school communities are congenial around the lunch table, but it might take a push to get to collegial.
is a great way to ! Make it a great day!
Have a great day everyone!
Maybe a sign would encourage some to come in and see what we are doing!
That is the difference! It has to be part of the organic culture to really be effective.
Teaching a collaborative lesson where they each taught part of the lesson and stayed in the room could work https://t.co/HkmJrxef4O
I wish we could get more teachers observing each other without the weirdness of peer observation.
The rooster is telling me it's time to go. Take time to & get your pirate on!!
Collaboration = skill needing practice so common planning time rarely leads to true collaboration. https://t.co/WU3MX61DXs
Does common planning time encourage collaboration or does it become a way to make sure everyone is on the same page?
I'm seeing "mandated" an awful lot in in this collaboration thread - if it's not T driven, is it true collaboration?
I agree they should support it, but we should all try to make it happen. We have to make it happen. Two heads, and all.
I'll have to share the schedule. Someone remind me.
Me too! We would likely average about 5-7 people each time. It's discouraging but maybe it will catch on.
Also wondering how collaboration among Ts changes between elementary school, middle school, & high school 🤔 https://t.co/zdCCd9yQjv
Good Monday peeps.
Today's question " How does your school or district promote peer collaboration ?"
Thanks for the ideas ! Getting my pirate on to
definitely. But some although some Ts naturally collaborate, others need a little push to get there
Hate to run - would love to explore this topic more. Have a great day - remember to w colleagues & students!
Ontario schools have been doing lesson study cycles as part of Ontario's initiative to raise achievement.
No signs, it is an open door policy. I told them from day one to expect me
District driven. Each department meets on their assigned day each week. Still a small school so my PLT is art &FL.
I agree - it's such a great way to learn!

I like that idea esp since I'm trying SBG this year.
