Interested in student-driven classrooms? Join Dr. Nancy Sulla @nsulla (author of Students Taking Charge, Its Not What You Teach But How, Building Executive Function: The Missing Link to Student Achievement, and more) and educators from all over in #LATICchat on Thursday nights at 8pm ET. We hope to bring together a community of educators to share insights, stories, examples, pictures from their classrooms, and more. We welcome all educators to join; no need to be running a #LATIC classroom.
A1) It’s all about me as a learner!what, how, when, with whom ... and decisions made by me, for me ... my teachers build that level of sophisticated responsibility in me. #personalizedlearning#LATICchat

A1 Personal learning is different for everyone as their interests, needs, inteligences, modes and abilities are all different. Meet the personal learning needs and they level up demonstrating learning. #LATICchat
A2 Gardner's Multiple Inteligences Test, Myers Briggs Tests, Dialog with S's for interests and elicit from them how they enjoy learning and questioning things. #LATICchat
A2: This question is one of my two favorite parts of the #LearnerActiveClassroom - pull up a chair and talk with the students; they are awesome advocates when we create the space and culture for them to do that. #JustAsk#LATICchat
A3) multi-faceted: academics. Exec function (the learning dashboard on https://t.co/gp67jn5hOb is grt for this), learning styles, social preferences (with whom do you learn best), seating prefs, quietness prefs ... hey, how about gettin Ss to define a profile? #LATICchat
A3 As I leave frequent Post Its in the S's Folders I also ask them to leave me Post It responses in a special color. Great insight into a specific activity, learning style or S preferences and thoughts. Communication has to work 2 ways in a LATIC #LATICchat
A4) Hyperlinked activity lists, formative assessments that guide students to next steps, I like @Socrative for this purpose. Based on results Ss make choices on AL #LATICchat

I wonder how different a parents view of the S's profile is from research, data and instruments used to measure. Personal Bias "I learned this way" " It worked for me" #LATICchat
Okay so three of my favorite parts of #LATIC ... I love the teacher-student communication in the two-pocket folders! How does the post-it color system work? #LATICchat
A4 Screencasts allow S's to work at their rate of comfort and rewind and review what they need. Also always provide a musical and or video activity for the different modes of learning. #LATICchat
My Comments are always yellow or green. S responses are pink or blue. Also if i ask for public responses that are anonamous i put up a piece of colored blue or pink paper and they stick post its around it. #LATICchat
I have finally gotten better enough at the “T” in Latic that my students call out things like “ Can you make this graphic organizer a Google form Ms. Perry!!#LATICchat
A5 Assessments like activities should allow S's with different learning styles and levels to demnstrate their learning and progress instead of forcing them to conform to a one size fits all canned question standardized exam. #LATICchat
A6) Don’t you just work better in some settings than others? Like soft seating? Feet up? Quiet? Din of others? Flat desk? Lap desk? S-driven #personalized learning of #LATIC extends to the physical space #LATICchat
A6 different settings & environments in the CR allows S's to decide (Choice=EF) wht suits thm and if they are comfortable S's R more likely to dig deeper, strive and reach for the next level. To truly ? like Socrates you must be comfortable. He wore a toga and sandals. #LATICchat
I love seeing #LATIC Ts then empower Ss to choose seating based upon their needs in that moment. Your blog: Form follows Function!! #PersonalizedLearning#LATICchat

The most rewarding is when I actually get it right and offer enough choices based on feedback that the students reply with "ugh" and "no" when we have to stop working to to to lunch. I actually tear up. #LATICchat
A7b When you see S's begin to thrive and strive at different rates and or doing different activities leading to a common goal while seeking feedback and pushing the limits that constrain them and us in the CR. #LATICchat
I have been allowing 1 table to use dividers for privacy and noise reduction. I also have a S who loikes to wear 1970's headphones not plugged in to reduce distractions. #LATICchat
You can also create time slots that are quiet times so everyone has to schedule to work quietly and independently then so that those who need quiet can have their moments #LATICchat
A8) Let the Ss find the problems, write the Task Statement, co-create the activity lists, write How to sheets! And I can sit back and smile:) #LATICchat
A8 T provides S's with profiles (expert data) and creates an enviro and activities that empower S's choice based on S's needs in how they develop skills and content to achieve a goal. #LATICchat
