There's an icebreaker where the Ss play a game w/o rules. They aren't allowed to talk. I'll try to find it...
-
-
A1: Functioning effectively as 'team' can't just be assumed...skills need to be taught like collab, listening, taking turns, etc.
-
Using Tangrams has also worked well in team building. They help each other figure it out.
-
A1 there is one where the students have to line up in order of their birth month and day without talking
-
-
activities are great team-builders for students and for adults! https://t.co/bb0oUM4BU2

Question 2 coming through... wait for it...

A1: Time, energy and teaching invested up front can pay huge dividends in how teams function.

most definitely. It seems like it needs to be done no matter the grade level.
-
-
-

A1: Ss join countries. Decide on 12 needs for its citizens from big list. Then they narrow down to 6 needs. Great interactions!

A2 you must create a room of respect and kindness for teams to be effective Ss can't share if they are worried about teasing
-
I've used tangram puzzles like you mentioned, with teams not able to talk while solving. Challenging! https://t.co/LMUmuc8r5F
-
-
Using Tangrams has also worked well in team building. They help each other figure it out.
-
And a good Growth Mindset! https://t.co/pFa4AuTMrQ

-
great answer https://t.co/2jS9AfLExT
-
-
A2 you must create a room of respect and kindness for teams to be effective Ss can't share if they are worried about teasing

A2 also meaningful roles remove barriers - ex: s is question reader, s is answered, s is fact checker, etc comfort in protocol
-
A2: Sometimes students' competitive nature can get the best of them.

I'll send you some of what I'm using that I think you'll like! I'm biking and tweeting so it'll happen after the :)
-
-
A3 the sooner the better - teamwork is a skill you will use throughout your entire life
-
A3 I think kids naturally team up in the sandbox. They need some facilitation, but they're drawn to teams.
-
-
A3 we start in 2nd with tons of training
-
A1: my Ss work great in teams! They know that they have to motivate, support, & encourage each other. They do such a great job!

-
does it get to be too much, too much out of classroom time? or do you do it in the off school time
-
a3 we model and teach, reteach and from 2nd on up it is the daily norm
-
it is embedded in both our math and reading curriculum
-
-
A3) Start early ! In kindergarten-small group work, reading with a partner, + playing games helps to teach the basics.
-
A3: Right 'out of the gate' in K..I'm amazed at how our youngest Ss learn to collaborate by taking turns & listening to each other.
-
A3: lower grades need lots of support & modeling, but can be done as low as K & 1st grade.
-
team up and make sure each other's backpacks are unpacked and we are ready for the day
-
ASAP......successfully = no one cried! š
-
Question 4, coming to shore... shall I rhyme some more?

-
Q4: Do your teacher teams need teambuilding to function effectively? Share your favorite team strategies. https://t.co/xypI0nHpjx
-
very well said, do you use a makerspace at your school?
-
Yes!! Consumption vs. creation is a philosophy shift in education in my opinion. Couldn't agree more!
-
No, but I have repeatedly asked our librarian to give us one! lol
-
Starting young can make a difference as they age...but need greater consistency of expectations across grades.
-
mine doesn't seem interested at all. I have some stuff for one, but haven't put a plan together yet
-
A4 OMG. YES! Anything where we can get together. Drinks = teambuilding. Pool = Teambuilding Whatever it takes!
-
A4- YES! We need to build teamwork skills too. Plus we get good ideas for tasks w/ Ss
-
A4 Our WHOLE school uses Teams -Ts too! We again have specific roles and clear goals
-
A3: My first graders can work in teams well, just gotta give each student a role with responsibilities. https://t.co/bNXC5Xydnl
-
-
My team isn't very team-y this year. Makes me sad!
-
Mine bought some "robots" but they don't do anything...yet.
-
A4 we are the school that works and parties together -- an appropriate amount of partying
-
A4) Yes! Teachers need opps to work cooperatively and engage in new learning just like our students. https://t.co/uyPEPp0aaJ
-
-
Q4: Do your teacher teams need teambuilding to function effectively? Share your favorite team strategies. https://t.co/xypI0nHpjx
-
A4: We are open books! We share new ideas related to our strengths as individuals teachers so we all become a collective strength!

-
-
-
A4 the teachers/staff become stronger by building each other up
-
-
Eh, it's the norm. After 11 years, I'm used to it.
-
-
-
A4: Filming our teaching and discussing with each other has broken down barriers. Microteaching truly helps!
-
Any amount is appropriate......... then again it can lead to awkwardness! https://t.co/DttBVIq4EE
-
-
A4 we are the school that works and parties together -- an appropriate amount of partying
-
A2: Ss spend more time talking about how to do something than doing it, so now we do a daily "priority" https://t.co/xaROsFAfin
-
A4 visiting other teacher's classrooms
-
A4 Yes to team building! We have breakfast every Friday and "book club" when time allows.
-
A4 we have 1/2 hr of daily collaboration built into EVERY day - so you know Team Bonding and what not

-
-
-
-
Question 5 is almost live... we're gonna jive... on
-
The 4 of us in our "pod" work well together. Mostly :D

-
A4 We even buy matching t-shirts to wear on special occasions.

-
A4 We do team lunches on all of our half days!
-
A5 We USED to all plan together and divvy up our strengths. I was responsible for centers/tech/activities. It has since changed.
-
-
A5 In the beginning our team leaders hand out roles but now it is second nature
-
-
A5- Not sure we divvy up anything. We're pretty separate for a team! We don't really collaborate and help each other out.
-
like selective people or selective party types?
-
Teambuilding is as important for adults as it is for kids...it can sometimes be tougher with adults! š
-
-
A4: give anonymous feedback to each team member (a compliment and a critique), then make action plans https://t.co/jTzbXzwINq

Admin also strongly prompts collaboration. So though with our team it comes easy, it is expected
-
