Well, thank you so much for joining us on #Resiliencechat I'm Rob from Northern California @ResiliencyGuy and I will be moderating tonight, so follow the tag #Reiliencechat, use it in your responses, and enjoy the evening!
#resiliencechat Tonight I wanted to delve into the concept of #Systemsofsupport that we need to focus on to build environments for our students, teachers, admin, parents, and community agencies that will support resilience development for all!
Thinking positive thoughts for you Debbie! #Resiliencechat My mother-in-law is undergoing her third #chemo rounds over the last 8 years! #torture in a tube!
#resiliencechat#Tidbit We often hear, "It takes a village to raise a child" I wonder, doesn't it take a village to support the student, teacher, parent, admin, and community - the whole village?"
#resiliencechat Q1: Have you considered the levels of support that are needed within our systems to ensure that our children are being provided with #resilience development opportunities: What are some of those systems?
Q2: #resiliencechat - Let's take them one at a time, Our Teachers: What types of #supports do our #teachers deserve that can assist them in building #Resilience positive growth environments for students? Basically,, what do our teachers need? Please elaborate!
#Yes! #Resiliencechat Each section of our educator community needs support and systems that will enhance opportunities for #Resilience growth for students.
A2 #resiliencechat I think our teachers need full #admin support, #training#PD be allowed to work to support each child, knowledge about the importance of #SEL Encouragement to take risks, understanding for their own journeys.
This is why we need to clone admins like @ResiliencyGuy and clone you, too. Schools anchor the community. Not merely happen to be in the middle of one. #resiliencechat

A1 for Q1 - Like with anything you will have children at different levels in their resilience development systems that support and nurture this are essential. Peers helping peers. #resiliencechat

A2: An admin that is their check and balance, stand behind and stand up to them. Admin that reviews all sides of the situation.
Support like mental health for the tough days.
Positive support to encourage, engage and inspire. #resiliencechat
A2. Yes! Teachers need to feel constant support from #administrators Personally, I am working on my relationships with not just teachers but the whole staff to enhance the culture even more at my amazing school!#resiliencechat
A3 #resiliencechat Our #families need so much support - Sometimes about our schools & systems, sometimes about normal child development, sometimes about securing their own future - language, jobs, etc, so that they can then be able to provide support for their/our children!

A4 Consider parents innocent 'til proven guilty. There was no need for me to be put thru the DCFS wringer 3 times Twice directly related to sadistic school nurses. One from an inexperienced teacher no doubt influenced by both a school nurse and a nasty principal.
#resiliencechat
A3: supports of being on the same team in supporting the child. Not just picking at the child's negative behaviour but embracing the positives when they happen as well. #resiliencechat
Q5 #resiliencechat Focusing on #Admin - Leaders are faced with many challenges each day - what types of supports do they need to be able to position themselves to support #Students#Teachers#Parents and the community in whole?
#resiliencechat _ Got ahead of myself: Q4 #resiliencechat Focusing on #Admin - Leaders are faced with many challenges each day - what types of supports do they need to be able to position themselves to support #Students#Teachers#Parents and the community in whole?
A5: mental health to prevent burnout. A govt that supports their actions as well. Praise for a job well done. Kindness of reaching out to assist if you see them slipping. #resiliencechat
A5 Based on my experience, slap the bad ones upside the head. Seriously. Don't support them. Force them out. Support the ones who fight for social justice and who advocate for their community. #resiliencechat

Back in Spring of 2010, school nurse accused me of sexual abuse. U mean to tell me she couldn't tell the diff btw a scratch along the labia and a crease? Either stupid or malicious. Altho DCFS cleared me straight away, the admin supported the nurse. No apology #resiliencechat
Meanwhile that admin got into trouble because they were oblivious to the fact that one of their students had been battered at home. Came to school bruised. Admin was forced out. #resiliencechat
A5: they need staff to have a 300 foot view, not every decision can be best for your independent classroom or practice but is best for collective advocacy #Resiliencechat
@KPNapaSolano#resiliencechat Q6 Our community partners are so very invested in our systems, yet, can we do a better job of letting them know what we need to support our #Students, #teachers, #admin, #parents? And, what might that be? So important!!!!!
The gist of this is that the school nurse and the principal were so focused on me advocating for Kid O that they didn't notice what was happening to this poor kid. Abuse of their authority. #resiliencechat
A6: have community partners attend or be part of school/parent council. Reach out for input and see how the school is valued in the community. #resiliencechat
Here in Chicago they are finally looking at what has gone on with SpEd. Oh sure do this now after Kid O has aged out. More than frustrating. Infuriating. And I am left feeling guilty for not being able to do more. I had a lot of doors slammed in my face. #resiliencechat
A6. I’m always pleasantly surprised with how generous our community partners are willing to help. Some businesses and faith-based partners are just waiting for someone to reach out. #Resiliencechat

A6: share research with part time employers that under 20 hours per week is the sweet spot for working students, their academic performance drops off when they exceed 20 hours, also flexibility to allow student athletes to juggle their work schedule big ask I know #Resiliencechat

And that is why @ResiliencyGuy I genuinely appreciate admins like you. I only wish I had had admins who went to bat for me. Only one really did. #resiliencechat
But think of it this way.... Due to all your hard work, you helped blaze a trail for the next generation in knowing that more, cold and should be done with supports in place. Good for you being a trailblazer. Look at the good you started. #resiliencechat
Now, the whole #enchilada: #resiliencechat When our #systemsofsupport are working and integrated, they all impact each other positively in a synchronized manner. Each part, in turn, supports the other part, and success is found in each arena. I believe this is possible in #school
Mainly because I am a loudmouth and a troublemaker. Been a while but there were times I tweeted at CPS. Because of those tweets, for a while I had my own CPS bureaucrat. #resiliencechat
Yes, the learning that occurs may not be ever witnessed by the teacher, yet, it doesn't diminish the learning that occurred! #Resiliencechat So profound Jenny! @Watermelonworks

A1: Our students need to feel supported within the classroom just as we as teachers need to feel supported by colleagues, administration, parents. #resiliencechat
#resiliencechat Q1: Have you considered the levels of support that are needed within our systems to ensure that our children are being provided with #resilience development opportunities: What are some of those systems?
We become the finely crafted inner workings of a watch. Each piece unique and each piece integral. Each piece working together for the end result. #resiliencechat
May seem harsh to you @ResiliencyGuy but I tweeted at CPS when a woman from downtown wanted to actually watch Kid O being changed. The teacher who was forced out by her admin was genuinely upset about that. Never happened but the very idea of it... #resiliencechat
I witnessed two really good and dedicated #Sped teachers who left that profession because of how they were treated by admins. That, to me, is unforgivable. #resiliencechat
As we conclude tonight on #resiliencechat I ask you to consider the #system that is impacted by one part to another, & work to ensure that as you impact one part of the system that you never hurt another part of that very system. We all need to #survive, & be #resilient
As you each focus on your next step, I ask that you go forth into the world, treat others with #kindness that you wish were brought to you each day, and build those environments where #Resilience can grow. #resiliencechat
A2: We need to feel backed by our administration, this is HUGE. We also need to feel supported by our PD dept who is willing to support our learning along the way. When we feel supported enough to take risks in our teaching, that’s where the magic happens. #resiliencechat
Q2: #resiliencechat - Let's take them one at a time, Our Teachers: What types of #supports do our #teachers deserve that can assist them in building #Resilience positive growth environments for students? Basically,, what do our teachers need? Please elaborate!
And in honor of @saratruebridge What sill you do tomorrow to be and build #Resilience in the systems you are a part of, and want to positively impact? #resiliencechat
As humans we all need each other. We are not silos that can survive. We need contact to be #resilient. We need a sounding board. We need a confidant. We need to laugh. We need to love. You need someone on your journey. #Resiliencechat
