Hello! Stacy, AP from Tampa, FL
-
Two years ago we launched with the goal of connecting leaders. Beginning today we take it to another level.
-
To celebrate the new , we are talking "Connected Leadership."
-
Q1: What does it mean to be a connected leader?
-
A1: using digital opportunities to connect with other leaders
-
A1: A connected leader is anyone who seeks to learn and grow from the many helpful voices in school and online.
-
Hello all, Jason Redmond MS AP from Maryland
-
A1: Building a network of colleagues to strengthen our abilities and enhance the opportunities for our students
-
Q1: to be in tuned w/ staff and students as well as a much broader audience using social media as PD
-
A1 It means "I don't have all the answers--and that's ok"
-
A connected leader creates a culture and climate of success. They are transparent. They know the strengths of their Ts and Ss.
-
Great to see that "connected" has moved beyond simply being online. Power of connection extends beyond our digital lives.
-
A1: not operating on your own but seeking the knowledge/resources of others & giving yours back; connections physical and digital.
-
A1: becoming part of a PLN and also finding ways to encourage T's to do so to.
-
A1: Connected leadership is building your PLN beyond your school & district.
-
Be a connected leader https://t.co/W0cZxP4KZM

-
A1: not operating on your own but seeking the knowledge/resources of others & giving yours back; connections physical and digital.
-
it's all about celebrating successes. Finding a way to be part of what happens in classrooms.
-
A1 connected leaders leverage technology to maximize relationships
-
Q2: How do can leaders build a meaningful connected network?
-
It's not how many I 'follow' or # books I read, but what ideas am I implementing in my leadership? https://t.co/fLp0Lm9MM4
-
-
Great to see that "connected" has moved beyond simply being online. Power of connection extends beyond our digital lives.
-
A1: A meaningful connected network begins by offering your authentic self, taking in new ideas and putting them into action.
-
-
A2: Meaning comes from the give and take between our connections- sharing knowledge- the goal of creating these connections
-
A2: Leaders can create a culture by listening empathetically & providing opportunities in multiple avenues for Ts to grow daily!
-
A2: by participating in chats like this. Be open, ask questions and encourage others
-
A2: Constantly broadening your circle of experts; sharing your expertise with others; growing your PLN; https://t.co/mNWBQ55pLY
-
-
Q2: How do can leaders build a meaningful connected network?
-
A2: Online is cool, but local is super valuable...get to know & network with other leaders in the school division & nearby ones.
-
A2: Building a meaningful network involves connecting w/ educators that lead like you and can also disrupt your thinking.
-
A2. Need to look at our strengths and weaknesses - use strengths to help others & choose strong PLN ex. to help us overcome weakness
-
Absolutely. These people understand your unique culture and your student body https://t.co/xxc3X72Bo9
-
-
A2: Online is cool, but local is super valuable...get to know & network with other leaders in the school division & nearby ones.
-
A2: Follow those you know are valuable, be open to admitting you don't have all the answers, and share your learning
-
A2 Talking through *real* situations w/peers builds meaningful connections.
-
A2: a leader knows their connected network is meaningful when they see their own prof. learning manifested in student success
-
A2: Sharing is great way to connect with others, particularly through chats such as this.
-
"disrupt your thinking" I love the thought of that- brilliant phrase!
-
Yes! Understanding yourself and being intentional and purposeful in your connections https://t.co/TOiCCSMsaD
-
-
A2. Need to look at our strengths and weaknesses - use strengths to help others & choose strong PLN ex. to help us overcome weakness
-
A2: Surprised no one has yet mentioned the value of attending conferences & workshops...meeting in person, staying connected online.
-
Q3: How can connected leaders help others to connect?
-
A2 cont'd. I like to connect with a variety of people from many places. Not beneficial if everybody has the same ideas & exp.
-
A3. I recommend people for Ts (and others) to follow based on content, needs, and interests.
-
Ironically, many people attend conferences surrounded by peers but don't make a single connection.
-
A3: Foster and create meaningful PD for Ts. Change is inevitable, growth is optional!
-
A3: we connected classrooms this week with our 1st Twitter challenge! It was a great start! https://t.co/AS3YEgseAS
-
A3: Help others connect by modeling the hows, sharing the gains, asking questions, sharing resources and ideas.
-
Right? They go to great pains to stay isolated. Especially easy in conferences dominated by sit 'n' sit sessions.
-
A3:workshops at instructional fairs; PD; modeling; making it fun; using a variety of modes; showing benefits https://t.co/kKPsLt7AGE
-
-
Q3: How can connected leaders help others to connect?
-
A3: Model it and help make it happen- 4 example: I created a twitter slow chat for my district's Aspiring AP Academy
-
-
-
A3 providing differentiated PD opportunities that help Ts discover the power of being connected for themselves
-
Let's vow not to be them. ;) https://t.co/uA0MDpNSKC
-
-
Right? They go to great pains to stay isolated. Especially easy in conferences dominated by sit 'n' sit sessions.
-
it's typical for ppl to want to connect w/ those who think just like you. I like a challenge. 😉
-
Key is to share without proselytizing. If we come off too strong we push others away.
-
Humor helps. So does personalizing the recommendation to the individual. https://t.co/7yn70MEHLH
-
-
Key is to share without proselytizing. If we come off too strong we push others away.
-
Agreed. Sometimes people need the nudge, but when we keep nudging they typically nudge back.
-
A3 Another way that relationship-building all along the way is key. If you know I care about you, you may accept a resource readily.
-
A3 Educators see the value of connectedness the first time it solves a problem. Then they're hooked.
-
Or when they gain a cool resource as a result of a connection (happens all the time on Twitter). https://t.co/HPiMTNlMui

-
Q4: How has being connected impacted you professionally (and/or personally)?
-
A3: It starts with a common interest after that they will be hooked to connecting especially on Twitter.
-
A4: is "solidified my Queen Nerd status" a legit response to this Q?
-
A4: I realized how much more I could be doing to grow comfortzone https://t.co/h45J0ZyGTw
-
-
Q4: How has being connected impacted you professionally (and/or personally)?
-
-
A4: Being connected educator has pushed my thinking, provided invaluable resources, & created meaningful professional relationships.
-
A4: I am a better leader and educator because of my PLN. Introduced me to amazing leaders willing to share.
-
It has allowed me to set goals based on leaders that inspire me. The challenges give me places to start.
-
A4: Connected leadership has allowed me to take my professional learning to a different level. I have complete ownership over it.
-
Q4: Until reading WCEDD, I didn't realize what I was missing. Just taught a staff development on Twitter for educators.
-
A4. Great way to continually learn and connect with others. Calendar Notification of Twitter chats. Grow or Die; l like to grow
-
& are some amazing people to learn from
-
Couldn't have said it better myself! https://t.co/oAwJWXIhrg
-
-
A4: Being connected educator has pushed my thinking, provided invaluable resources, & created meaningful professional relationships.
-
A4 being connected helps keep my prof. learning a priority when I get bombarded with day 2 day responsibilities of the job
-
-
same here! I have found other nerds who like to talk about education 24/7! Exciting. Lol
-
A4: Huge gains in discovering new tools, new knowledge/awareness of issues. Made local connections that led to face-to-face.
-
Q5: How has your ability to reflect been impacted by connecting?
-
are educators that have pushed me to think outside the box & do whatever it takes for Ss!
-
I was following 3/4, just started following Kim.
-
A5. When you have an awesome PLN and participate in Twitter chats, it's hard NOT to reflect on your own thoughts & practices
-
I read three new books in the last 2 weeks by authors I didn't know prior to joining other educators on Twitter.
-
that's amazing! Hope you are doing well!
-
Q5 edu chats (like this one) cause me to reflect by generating questions I might not take the time to ask myself, otherwise.
-
A5: hearing others helps me analyze my own thinking, what I'm missing. Also like confirmation that I'm not alone in my thinking!
-
(PT1) Beginning with this chat, all of our chats will be tied to the new Expert of the Week feature on the website...
-
A5: it has caused me to reflect on and redirect my leadership focus.
-
Q5 Maxwell: "Our best teacher isn't experience. It's evaluated experience." I am now constantly reflecting on my work.
-
(PT2) ...Each week one of your colleagues will be a featured blogger, pose questions, and guide the topic for
-
A5 One thing leads to another. 1st I started w Twitter, then chats, then building PLN, and now loving some great podcasts
-
A5: Reflection is a daily activity for me. Being connected, permits me to participate in reflective practice collaboratively
-
Twitter...the gateway drug. ;) https://t.co/OJhIdE847S

-
A5 There's a real temptation to connect just w/like-minded ppl. I try to include ppl who typically disagree w/me in my PLN.
-
-
We are all in the same family!
-

Please check out our Expert of the Week feature and connect to those you can learn from.
