Hi Howard! How's the start of your week going? #4thchat We had Senior Walk - seniors from HS come dressed in caps & gowns & walk through elementary! So fun to see them all grown up!
A1: During my first five years of teaching, I tutored at Sylvan Learning Center. It was great for kids looking to retain info. At the time, studies showed children could lose up to 3 months! Getting involved in summer library reading programs are great, too. #4thchat
A2: If students have access to internet and devices, they can utilize online school purchased sites. There are some great camps kids can go to as well! #4thchat
A2: In an attempt to avoid a summer slide, students went over their own data today from corp tests to assess. We talked about expected growth and what sts are doing well or not so well that affect the growth scores. Then do what you need in summer. #4thchat
A2: Read, read, read!!! It's so important to keep up those reading skills as it affects all areas. This infographic tells it better: https://t.co/tallreLeoz#4thchat
Q3: Research shows that reading just six books during the summer may keep a struggling reader from regressing. What 6 books would you suggest to your students to read this summer? #4thchat

Absolutely LOVE that you involved your students in this discussion. It's so important that THEY realize what's what in the summer! Way to go, Jenn. #4thchat

A2: Hi All, Heidi from TN popping in for a bit. We’re putting together a @Seesaw summer class for our upcoming #4thchat students to engage them in challenges throughout the summer months. 2.5 more days for us.
It's amazing how they get into it. We discussed someone who grew double the amount expectated and talked about how they observed her during stations. I then had them think about what they or someone could work on to grow more. #4thchat
A4: Info about the summer reading program hosted by the public library, access to subscribed programs over the summer like iReady, Lexia, and others, camps in the area. #4thchat
It makes so much sense @JennRegruth to have these conversations with your 4th graders. They are old enough to be able to understand & take charge of their learning. #4thchat

A3: My team teacher has been reading the Narnia series this year. IF the kids read the last book in the series, she has a get together over summer to discuss the book :) #4thchat
A4: If my summer were longer I might keep one of my science Scratch interactive model projects back and ask them to 'design' for next years Ss. But I want them to be free for 3 weeks. #4thchat
Q5: Have you thought of using a source like @RemindHQ to send summer notes to your parents to encourage them to read to their kids or play math games during the summer? #4thchat
I love that - love book give-a-ways. Often at the end of the year I would go through my class library & have students choose a book for the summer. #4thchat
I have sent a Google Doc to the parents every week this year with links to sites and games to help with home review using @RemindHQ. Plan to continue to do so over the school. #4thchat
A5: I used a combination of @RemindHQ and @seesaw last year….but will go just to Seesaw classes this summer to help them work a little more with tech… :) #4thchat
A6: Yes, through @edmodo I tried to host a summer book club years ago. Unfortunately, it was not a very big success, but I’m trying again this summer. #4thchat

A4: Two years ago I offered an online Math Summer Camp via google Classroom. I had about 5 students participate. Tried to have various levels of learning to engage. #4thchat It was a lot of work - but I felt like kids got something out of it.
A8: Yes my students can access online programs they used during the school year. I dont archive my old class intill the new school year. they can access our google classroom, khanacademy, learning a-z, freckle, https://t.co/WXA3kRP5vA, xtramath and imaginelearning #4thchat
I think that's the thing @plnaugle We need to keep trying - each year the kids are different. Even if we've got one or 2 interested it's worth it. #4thchat
