Welcome to #MakeItReal! I can't wait to hear your perspectives on great conferences/events and what makes them so great! Who are you and where are you from?
Hi #makeitreal. Selena from TX. I'm an Instructional Technology Facilitator, and I too am interested in this topic since we are currently planning a tech conference! Oh yea, and the keynote is none other than @MathDenisNJ himself!! That alone is a great start!
Awww. Thanks! It's been a struggle in softball season with all my other duties, but our last game was last night, sadly, but now I have more time to write. :) #MakeItReal
A1: Okay. I have been to some good ones, but THE BEST conference was #DitchSummit hands down. The guests were amazing, and I learned a lot. I could attend in my pjs with coffee and on my own time schedule, so what's not to like? #MakeItReal
#MakeItReal A1) attending @desmos HQ when I was chosen as a Desmos Fellow. It gave skills and a community to inspiree to be a better teacher. Also helped me understand how to integrate tech into math classroom. https://t.co/f8HD0fcDwu
A2: I am a little torn, but TCEA did a great job this year with new and emerging tech ideas. On the other hand, TLA is near and dear to my heart because i LOVE books and promoting literacy and the swag (BOOKS) is hard to beat! #MakeItReal
A1: #NCSM18 was amazing for me to attend as a math leader, but it was also so powerful to keynote and workshop at schools. Being a welcomed member of a school community teaches you so much about how you can grow as an educator #MakeItReal
A1: I just got back from presenting at the best conference....EVER! It was #Bridging2Resilience We had nationally known keynotes and breakout sessions. The BEST was the Hope Spotlights by teens and women who have come from trauma and poverty! AMAZING!! #MakeItReal
A1: Really excited for my division's "Innovation Conference" next month. Going to pull together the collective knowledge of our division to provide tech-heavy sessions as our division goes 1:1 next year! #makeitreal@PHausTech@ERobbPrincipal@MathWithMsHawes@DeemAlysia
A1 #MakeItReal Wish I could say I went to more. I am@so busy with Wuiz Bowl I don’t tend to venture far. But teaching again at our science conference in Katy in June.
A1) Here, I can only speak of the events I’ve attended. This distinction, therefore, goes to the @KATMWebmaster Annual Conference. Local, math-centric, and k-12. The power of regional movement is awesome. Kansas is capturing those ideals. #MakeItReal
#MakeItReal A1 Wish I could say I went to more. I am so busy with Wuiz Bowl I don’t tend to venture far. But teaching again at our science conference in Katy in June. Heading to Chicago next week for nationals.

To all my social studies teachers out there, here's a facebook group dedicated to scholarships and grants to attend amazing institutes and workshops! https://t.co/4xVN47YPsl there are some for other subjects in there too :) #makeitreal
A2: Performance based assessments. Growing up, projects for me were just making posters or a powerpoint and felt pointless. Got lots of great strategies to make them authentic! #makeitreal
#MakeItReal A2) have seen others tweet and blog about, and I am super interested in the idea of #clotheslinemath . No local PD seems to be available about it.
#makeitreal Open, purposeful talk. I went to my 1st Edcamp 2 years ago and since then I use student led Edcamps in my classroom- they are awesome student-driven conversation activities
A2) I’m all about assessment right now. How you “grade” is a lesson you give your students as much as anything else. Be sure your actions and methods are what you would consider the ideal for you’re students to do for themselves. #makeitreal
A2: In being trauma-informed and trauma-responsive, the model of discipline moves from being punitive to "what can I do to help you?" or "What can I do for you?" and the use of Zones of Regulation. It has be transforming! #MakeItReal
A2: That's a toss up, but here's two biggies: Brain based strategies via @PoojaAgarwal from her #DitchSummit session & from @kevinhoneycutt 's keynote recently I learned to keep my thinking fluid, so I can push Ss past boundaries placed on them by selves or others. #MakeItReal
A2 #MakeItReal Last year at CAST the science conference- I learned so much from #HHMIbiointeractive Howard Hughes Medical Institute I use their videos and wonderful activities all the time
Offered students bonus points on their latest Unit Test if they could articulate why we need percentages. This is one of my favorite units to teach because it has so many real life applications! #MakeitReal
A2: I learned quite a bit about student voice and empowerment, and have schools that are taking that to heart by creating student tech teams and creating student advisory panels. #makeitreal
Forget bonus points :) Make this the only question on the test and let them have a week to answer it and back up their answers! You'll see SO MANY PERCENTAGES!!! #makeitreal
Q3: What characteristics of a GREAT Conference can we bring back to our classroom to create learning experiences our students WANT to be a part of? #MakeItReal
Q3: What characteristics of a GREAT Conference can we bring back to our classroom to create learning experiences our students WANT to be a part of? #MakeItReal
Nice! I could listen to him all day, and nearly did. My husband & I picked his brain/hung out with him for a bit the afternoon after his keynote. Loved it! #MakeItReal

A3: The best part of great conferences is the discussions that takes place by people passionate about teaching and learning. Recreate that in your classroom #MakeitReal
#makeitreal Hands on learning. For me conferences need to be - do not tell me how to do it- let me do it- once I get hands on and interact with the activities I will make sure to integrate them into my classroom if I like them
Q3: What characteristics of a GREAT Conference can we bring back to our classroom to create learning experiences our students WANT to be a part of? #MakeItReal
Absolutely! If you can get students talking about their passions, you'll find ways to connect the learning concepts you wanted to teach to it pretty easily! #makeitreal
#MakeItReal A3) I always think a conference is useful if I use something I learned within the first week. Obviously anything that can help me motivate and connect to my SS is a bonus
A3: Real stories, maybe people willing to come and share their stories and do a Q & A with the Ss afterword.
The excitement of learning something new.

A1 Best of the year for me were the 2 researchEDs I've been to in the last year, as committed to evidence-based ed improvements, and priced right. (Full disc: I'm the @researchED_US organizer.) More info here: https://t.co/3wXAew9xuy#MakeItReal
#MakeItReal A3) I have recently started giving PD and presenting at conferences and I always have a goal of creating something during our time which we be used quickly in the classroom, some sort of activity
I love the ‘between’ time in the halls while sessions transition. I’m annoyingly talkative, and when I get excited about something- and find someone equally excited- well...it makes for a grand time.
The more we play- the more we can step aside and let them play- we just need to see things in action and feel comfortable- then we can be observers, audiences #makeitreal
https://t.co/tq7r7X3oi4 here is a presentation @PHausTech and I did at a conference recently on PBAs. Feel free to steal! We've got History, Science, Math, and about every other content area represented! #MakeItReal

A3: Tougher, but doable. I already made seating more comfortable. Ss can wear PJ pants to school already, so by bringing in good story telling, hands on learning, and more S interests/passions, then we can definitely create experiences Ss want to be a part of. #MakeItReal
Yes! With her help after the session I created the Monday Brain Dump, Wednesday Think Pair Share over Brain Dump, and Friday #Sketchnotes the brain dump/think pair share info. Love it! #MakeItReal

Each child - a finely woven masterpiece- teachers, parents, friends and family the threads that combine with the vibrant colors of knowledge and growth. If we help strengthen their tapestry- they will endure through rough & beautiful times and hang on the walls of future kings
