#Bfc530 We must fight for an educational model that is best for #students and #teachers. That will look different for everyone, but it is the standing up and speaking out that is important.

Good morning! There are so many fights to fight it can be overwhelming. I think the most important thing I do is try to make my classroom a safe space for all, colors, genders, language, etc. I try to be open and educate myself about my ss in an attempt to not marginalize #BFC530
I probably just follow my heart. We each fight hardest for the issues that hit us in the gut hardest personally I think. For whatever reason that a may be. #bfc530

There is injustice in cracks & crevices all around, big and small.
I control what I do within my classroom and prioritize my Ss. But more and more, teaching seems to require a state of activism. It's a lot.

I listen to students and others whose voice might not be heard and speak out for them. What is best for students is always the deciding factor for me #bfc530
Gm. Fights are exhausting, temporary, and require a rematch , usually, with the same characteristics. I try to insert corrections, redirection, access, truth, and accurate vocabulary in spaces I occupy. I make room. Not ruckus. . #BFC530

Totally agree with other posts - it is about the students and what will help them the most. We need to be careful not to fight a fight in school simply because it is something we feel strongly about, but rather make sure the students' best interest is at the heart of it. #bfc530

The first “fight” we have to have concerning #LGBTQ in education is with ourselves ... if you don’t believe that is morally right because of your religious beliefs than no amount of school policy is going to fix that and the kids know you don’t like them. #bfc530
Fight with a smile, with information, with relationships, with positivity.
Fight harder for those who voice is difficult to hear, yet need your help.
Fight has negative connotations: be a passionate advocate.

It reminds me of the starfish story - I may not be able to do EVERYTHING for EVERYONE, but for each kid I know and listen to I can make the difference. And when we all do that... commit to listening and speaking out and taking action, imagine the collective power! #bfc530

This is quite true. Also true regarding other issues- I have heard Ts make judgmental comments about Ss documentation, family situations, etc. Our job is one of service. For all. #bfc530
We are an advocate for the kids ... you advocate for everything they want ... be that megaphone for their voice. Kids appreciate having someone they know is on their side. #bfc530

Yesterday was Australia Day Public Holiday! I snapped that photo at Circular Quay Railway Station. It looked like this massive cruise ship was about to run up the ramp to dry dock. That’s scary because that’s not a ramp but the roof top of the ferry terminal! Photo fun! #bfc530

We actually have some really great former teachers in central office roles who are good leaders and educators. I'm proud to work with them. I guess we're spoiled in FCPS. #bfc530
I think it's more about looking past all of the noise and seeing the beautiful and unique individuals we have sitting in our room. It shouldn't feel like a fight, but rather a conversation full of acceptance, positivity, integrity, and heart! #bfc530

First, recognizing there are so many fights to fight is part of the victory.
I try to set a clear, general tone of respect and that each person is valued, just as their opinions. In government, we debate ideas & their impact on people, not people.

When something doesn’t sit well with me, I immediately find a way to deal with it. Sometimes it’s a restorative circle in my classroom and discuss a topic with students. Sometimes I discuss it with admin. One thing not acceptable in my room is meanness. Squash it. #bfc530
