A1. Kids meet and greet each other. Adult meets and greets at door. Kids have lots of conversation. Kids have jobs to help. The kids are engaged #MTedchat
A1 My ideal classroom community is one where students aren't afraid to fail, they help each other out, celebrate success and mistakes, teacher acts as a guide to learning rather than the source of all knowledge. #mtedchat
Same, I'm not exactly where I want to be yet, but this year I've given more freedom and autonomy to my students than ever before and have seen big results. #mtedchat
A2 I do student interest surveys to get to know them, have their parents write letters to me about their child, greet them with a handshake at the door every morning, try to spend a few minutes with each child. #mtedchat
A2. I meet and greet staff and kids. I sit w kids at lunch. I call parents. I recognize kids. It’s all about positive. I do nice things for staff. I point out positive things in their rooms #MTedchat
Hey #mtedchat friends! I can't stay tonight, but I wanted to pop in and say HI! :-) For those of you still in school, hang in there... if you're out, ENJOY!!
It was my introduction into a student led classroom. There is one cup with a T on it that is supposed to be at the bottom of the stack. Represents that all Ss and the T work together #mtedchat
Q3: #MTedchat We all know the importance of building great teacher/student relationships, but it can sometimes be more difficult to develop good student/student relationships. How do you help students develop positive relationships with their peers?
A3. We do lessons in breakfast in classrooms. We do vids about being good friends. Choosing good friends. Treating people w respect. Our counselor and staff do a good job #MTedchat
A3 In K-1 we started the day with Sharing Circle, 4/5 it was Morning Meeting. Students took turns sharing news, we did "roses and thorns" and compliment circle. Great way to start the day and have Ss listen to one another. #mtedchat
Q3: #MTedchat We all know the importance of building great teacher/student relationships, but it can sometimes be more difficult to develop good student/student relationships. How do you help students develop positive relationships with their peers?
A3 teamwork activities like @BreakoutEDU games, sharing good things to start the day where students can share good things and ask each other questions #mtedchat
I used cards to call their names and they could choose to "give or receive" a compliment when their name was picked. Then I asked for volunteers to give if they chose "receive" Everyone got what they needed that day. It was nice. #mtedchat
A3 We also create our social contract together on the first day of school. Ss answer how they want to be treated by me, how I want to be treated by them and how they want to be treated by each other. We write on paper and all sign & we all agree to abide by the contract #mtedchat

Q4: #MTedchat How do you develop growth mindsets in your students so that your classroom becomes a place where it is okay to make mistakes and learn from them?
A4 We celebrate good mistakes. At the beg. of the year I make a big show of pointing out awesome mistakes Ss make (with their permission of course) we talk about why it's such a great learning opportunity and clap for them for providing us with an opportunity to learn #mtedchat
A4 Using the workshop model for reading and writing was a good framework for helping Ss learn through the process of practicing and editing. Also, helping Ss build their stamina during #daily5 went a long way in helping them see their own growth. #mtedchat

#MTedchat What role do parents play in your ideal classroom community? What do you do to help build positive relationships with parents from the start?
A5 Keeping Ps in the loop with strong communication builds community. Our student blog really helped Ps feel connected. I also invited Ps in for a "reading" after each writing unit so they could help us celebrate writing growth as the year progressed. #mtedchat
#MTedchat What role do parents play in your ideal classroom community? What do you do to help build positive relationships with parents from the start?
A5. It is critical to communicate early. Embrace things going correctly. Make a call. Use social media to show great things their kids are doing. Invite them in to visit for good kids and kids that need help. Cut down barriers #MTedchat
That's a good idea. We're having a publishing party tomorrow for our published books but it might be good to do once a quarter. I think @Seesaw is great for helping build community with parents too. #mtedchat
A5 Give parents a glimpse into your classroom with tools like @Seesaw, social media, communicate often. I think parents like writing the letter at the beginning of the year because it lets them know you value their input. #mtedchat
I tried to make it clear at the first reading after the first trimester that we wanted to see growth over time. By the end of the year Ps were really blown away with how the writing developed. #mtedchat

Q6: #MTedchat Once you’ve established a positive classroom community what do you do to continue to foster positive relationships in your class especially during high stress times like testing or towards the end of the year when we might see more behavior problems?
Q6: #MTedchat Once you’ve established a positive classroom community what do you do to continue to foster positive relationships in your class especially during high stress times like testing or towards the end of the year when we might see more behavior problems?
A2: In order to establish healthy teacher/student relations, from the beginning of the year, I create a very positive and safe environment for my students. Therefore they are never afraid to take risks and trust me as well as one another. #MTedchat
A6 I had Ps write a positive letter to Ss before standardized testing & I wrote new letters for each day that we tested w/positive message or funny meme, when we're having a rough day we do a snowball fight w/pos. msg written on paper. We all throw and pick up & read #mtedchat
