Tech Integrator former soc st. Host #sstlap GB Wisconsin
#eduwin was seeing 120+ educators at #Tundra18 last night sharing ideas and learning together.
We have had a push for Cornell notes - I am not super familiar with them, but think giving them a structure - but then allowing freedom - what about sketchnotes #sstlap
A1 It's given me understanding and perspective; learning to really appreciate the struggles so many students deal with and seeing what they are capable of #sstlap
A1 A better question would be, how has it not changed my life. I can't imagine what my life might be like today, had I not become a classroom teacher. One thing, though, I would not be here typing this tonight. And, I'd much poorer for that! #sstlap
A1- It has opened my eyes to so many disparities and made me realize how lucky i am. It has also helped me deal with my hubbies ADHD (his words :} )
#sstlap
Yes- as I spent more time with ss I see their lives are unique, their struggles are different than I experienced and it has allowed me to change my focus- build relationships most important #sstlap

Loving it.... but to go with A1, I do miss daily interaction with the same group of students. In this role I work with lots of students, but just for short bits. Fun bringing them technology like #VR#BreakoutEdu#sstlap
I am in same role- when I get to work with a teacher a few times- I have been able to develop relationships with students- they know me and know I care about them #sstlap

A1: Its turned me into a student again who is teeming with wonder. They help me view the world around me through their eyes and identify learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom! Plus, they keep me in the loop for all the hip lingo so I can seem cool. #sstlap
yes- i think this is a great approach- they need a structure so they understand the how and why
then they can create their own version of notes to meet their needs- in HS - some kids don't need notes #sstlap
I introduce Cornell Notes to help them learn how to take notes- to not write too much or too little. After they get the hang of it they morph it into their own style. I share a screencast about CN that they can refer to at all times if they're stuck.
A1: With the experience I have in working with kids, relationships are an important aspect. Patience is another thing I have learned along the way. #sstlap
A2-I thought I would have lesson plans that I just modified each year... HA! I have only been teaching a few years but each week I seem to be modifying to fit the needs of the kids
#sstlap
Gotta miss #sstlap tonight, gang - just finished our @NationalHistory Showcase with 63 student projects and 200+ parents - great show with @DrLWalczak, but tired!
A2 omg from paper and pencil to flipped classroom, from general music 🎼 to technology coach, computer science and my new position technology integration specialist...I have been lucky with my pln supporting my growth, yes u2 Ben #sstlap
A2: After 20ish years, my teaching practice is hopefully significantly transformed; I even see evidence of transformation going back to blog posts from 3 or 4 years ago #sstlap
A2: far more S centred; more focus on reaching a broader range of styles; I think more deeply about the why and how I teach than I did at first #sstlap
A2 Beginning = Content
Today = Relationships, skills, experiences, engagement.
I look at big picture for content and work on creating experiences and getting to know kids #sstlap

love it- i taught so many courses/subjects- I didn't know the content well enough- faked it but missed opportunity for ss to really learn. Once I embraced my own lack of knowledge, realized I needed to give them control my teaching became easier more enjoyable #sstlap
Love that- not on the side, but on the ride- as you are taking the journey with them- you are partnering with them. makes it more collaborative and a partnership. #sstlap
A4 we start by creating of culture of learning, community where mistakes r the only firstattemptun learning ...debugging....and we support and push each other and celebrate our successes #sstlap
absolutely yes-
model learning - the mess - the failure- and especially the triumph that comes through perseverance- these are the real lessons we need to teach kids

Oh I get the issues with time-- I get people have a thousand other things to do- so I truly appreciate those who can make it, and understand when they can't.
#sstlap
A4: Observing other teachers that have success with students and in the classroom have inspired me. Seeing students succeed help me strive to better myself as a teacher. #sstlap
A3 #sstlap Sometimes it is just about not being willing to accept what they want to give you the first time. If they hear that I think that they can do more/better, they most often will, because somebody believed the best about them!
A4 My parents pushed me to be my best. HS teacher Mr Seefeldt inspired me to be a teacher - my students who provided feedback good and bad helped me improve - Dave Burgess #tlap helped right my course refocus my path - and my PLN who inspire daily #sstlap

Yesterday was the start of a new semester for us Albertans. Sometimes that brings a few days of calm before the marking storm begins! #SStlap@N_Davidson18

A5 working on my admin license- just have my practicum to do- so feeling happy to have done the work and the learning.
Seeing those I work with implement the tools, skills and ideas to provide ss new opportunities and share with colleagues #sstlap
Awesome- I didn't know there were a spotlight presenter for nearpod- I just thought you were an amazing person who deserves to be spotlighted all the time! #sstlap
A5 Took on a new role that is a small step out of my comfort zone. Made some big achievements in the gym that I didn't know I could do a year ago.
#sstlap
yes- always a goal of mine-
learned the idea of looking at a few student papers/ projects, etc. and creating feedback points for students- don't have to evaluate all to help them improve- don't grade everything!!! #sstlap
In case you didn't see this before
Looking for a host for next week.
Let me know if you are ready, willing and able to accept the challenge!
#sstlap
Also if there are other nights you want to host- have a topic of interest, let me know.
My school used to have a Breakfast of Champions to celebrate for things other than academics; it was a lovely way to acknowledge the Ss that often get overlooked #sstlap
My previous school included 2-3 student accomplishments/highlights every day during afternoon announcements, as turned in by teachers. Kids loved hearing their name and cheered classmates. #sstlap
That is fantastic- we just discussed celebrations and an AP was emailing weekly highlights- someone asked - do the students hear about these- So area to improve- ss should be part of these celebrations- let them hear the highlights #sstlap

A7 It wasn't about me, but I certainly aspired to be the teacher he was - James Herndon's How To Survive in Your Native Land. https://t.co/yYHeDE0o8o#sstlap
