A2-Honestly, the only "con" I can think of to #PBL is that not every educator uses it in the classroom.
PBL relates to the real world and what students can expect. Shouldn't we be teaching that...? #CareerTechEd#STEM#NVedchat
A1: not a con but a hiccup is trying to get kids to think that way. They are so use to things being a certain way... I teach, you regurgitate what I say.... #NVedchat
A2-We have to get away from grading in black and white or right or wrong. There are many ways to find a solution to problems and we should be encouraging #creativity.
Ultimately, I based a good portion of work on #PBL to effort and at the end + reflection on content. #NVedchat
A1 I agree with @JennFisk since students are not used to the idea it can be difficult if you are the only teacher using it, & students don’t understand the concept #NVedchat
A3-ABSOLUTELY YES! The problem is standardized testing gets in the way of educators using #PBL more often.
Too much of education is focused on memorization and not enough on learning to critically think, be creative, etc...
#NVedchat
A2 provide check in times, wether graded or not to help them stay on track. Today my students had to say Career they are researching & professional organization associated out loud, I can correct pronunciation & see who is having trouble researching & help. #NVedchat
Final Question...it's sharing time!
Q4-What is/was your favorite #PBL with students or favorite project with other educators?
Why was it your fav? #NVedchat
A2: Rubrics work well for PBL and I also like a peer review and debrief as part of the assessment reflection. I also had Ss write a one page metacognitive reflection at the end. #NVedchat
A4 I started a project my first year in CCSD after a student asked “Why do we get headaches?” I paused trying to figure out how to answer since there were so many reasons.... decided this would be good lesson to demonstrate differential diagnosis. #NVedchat
A4: I loved a couple I did w/ 12th AP Lit. One was an evolution of literature project where they had to “show” Lit evolution over time and 2nd was an archetype project. So fun and the kids were always so creative. #NVEdchat
