Welcome to #NYEDChat! Tonight’s final discussion of this school year is on “#TheArtofSummering. Let’s rock Twitter as your voices join along with oure ALL-Star Team. A big round of applause for these edus who were either guest moderators or NYEDChat moderators this year.
Hello #NYEDchat I’m thrilled to be invited as one of many guests tonight. Mary from Tulsa although coming to you from a hotel room in Kansas City - which suddenly got a little less lonely! #G2Great
A1 I still work in the summer. I do ELA in middle or high school. It is a good opportunity to experiment with different lessons. This year I will be keynoting a conference, doing a coding pd and working for the wife. Summering means very little to me. #nyedchat
A1 This summer I am working on a proposal for book #2...that's the "art of summering" for me. I have all day tomorrow blocked off to write - it really doesn't get any better! #nyedchat
A1 #TheArtofSummering means taking time for activities and experiences that bring joy. Also, learning new things, plating seeds in summer PD. #NYEDchat
I see “Summering” as a very personal term that each us has the freedom to interpret in our own ways. It’s different for everyone and there’s no designated percentage of play and learning. #NYEDchat
A1 I see “Summering” as a very personal term that each us has the freedom to interpret in our own ways. It’s different for everyone and there’s no designated percentage of play and learning. #NYEDchat
I admit...on the struggle bus with summering! I work year round and take some vacation days, but usually work at home 😬 Looking for inspiration tonight! #NYEDChat
A 1 Summering means more choices for me! Besides Reading professional books I have time to read other books, take long early morning walks, and spend more time with friends and family and enjoy reflecting on the year! #NYEDChat
For me, summering means a slower, more intentional pace with long stretches of reading, writing and connecting with family to create lasting memories. #NYEDChat
A1) The Art of Summering means slowing down, reflecting, connecting, reading, processing, planning, getting outside, rejuvenating, and reengaging in my passions. #NYEDChat
A1 For me learning and play are often synonymous. I used to feel as if I had to justify how much time I devote to learning but now I take full ownership of how I balance it. Very freeing! #NYEDchat
A1: Summer for me is all about reflecting on the year, reading good books and TANNING by the pool. I plan to be very dedicated to all those things this summer. #NYEDChat
A1) The Art of Summering means slowing down, reflecting, connecting, reading, processing, planning, getting outside, rejuvenating, and reengaging in my passions. #NYEDChat
Hi Bethany, please feel free to use, share, distribute any of the blogs and resources from https://t.co/jXs5t5YUJC if that will lighten the yearly load. Happy to help :) #nyedchat
A1 For years summer meant being part of a transition team of teachers helping kids acclimate to their new program. Kinders and ECs. So summer time off started in August. Now summer role as “Bubbie” and subbing #nyedchat
A1 Time to connect with some amazing people in my Twitter PLC world, read some great books and spend time with my family that supports my work all year long. #NYEDChat
A1: The art of summertime is reflecting more deeply than I can during the year. It's a time to open the mind, let the creative juices in and as a good friend said today, "marinate". #nyedchat
The art of summering varies from year to year, but usually includes reflection time and extra rest. I also take the time to do more professional AND personal development reading. #NYEDchat
Just so everyone knows, #NYEDChat is moving at a very fast-pace so there are many of us trying to RT and respond to participants. Have fun tonight with us.
A1 For me learning and play are often synonymous. I used to feel as if I had to justify how much time I devote to learning but now I take full ownership of how I balance it. Very freeing! #NYEDchat
I feel like a different person on the patio in the summer. Wouldn't it be great to take advantage of our school courtyards like this all year long?! #nyedchat
I’ve been spending a lot more time with my niece and her family. My best work time in morning but I’ve been enjoying a little night time play with family! #NYEDchat
A1 For me learning and play are often synonymous. I used to feel as if I had to justify how much time I devote to learning but now I take full ownership of how I balance it. Very freeing! #NYEDchat
A 2 It changes the intensity of teaching and continually thinking about students and how to support them and offers time to care for mind, body, and emotional wellness! #NYEDChat
A1: Jess, teacher-librarian, Ontario, Canada. Summer means recharging, reflecting and catching up on things I have neglected from Sept to June! #NYEDchat
A1) #TheArtofSummering means end of year PD trainings to do, summer conferences to present at, summer blockbuster movies, the beach, swimming, & being outside (in the morning & night when it’s cool) #NYEDChat
A2 No matter how much we enjoy and love teaching, we need summering so that we can simmer ideas and be reading to sizzle in August. How's that for some alliteration? #NYEDChat
A2: For me it is the idea that I can get ideas down and refine them without the rush of the day to day. I plan to set some work limits this summer, Gym in the AM work for a bit and then play. No students makes for a different type of work but it is important. #NYEDChat
A2) Summer is a time to get back into healthy habits like walking, biking, hiking, visiting farmers markets, grilling, fruits, vegetables, salads. #NYEDChat
Have spent a lot of time in fifth-grade classes recently. They are hungry for relevancy and interest. You'll enjoy the incoming classes for sure. #nyedchat
A2 I think the benefits are enormous. During the school year I seem to be rushing from one place to the next so tend to forget to stop and smell the roses. My summer’s are a little less frenzied so taking that time! #NYEDchat
A2: Summer is a time to get creative. With the slower pace, I start dreaming and planning! Love the room summer provides to think, reflect and grow! #nyedchat#Path2Serendipity
A2 A #summerstance allows me to reconnect spiritually, to nature, to my family & friends. This reenergizes me as a researcher & educator, as a wife & mother. #NYEDChat
A2 I just started my new teacher notebook today for next year. I keep notes from PD books, conferences, ideas from Twitter and my PLN, and plans for lessons. #NYEDChat
A2: One is my favorite things in my summer stance is no makeup! Sounds silly but I love to take Mondays and Fridays off—4 days unmade is my favorite! #NYEdchat
A2 taking time to reconnect with natural world, to sink into listening to books - currently have Seamus Heaney cued up, walk my country lane, write #NYEDChat
A2 The biggest benefit in my mind is to take tie to refill your mental and emotional bucket. I do quite a bit of work in Honolulu and that’s always my refilling space! #NYEDchat
A2: A “summer stance” can have many benefits, but primarily, I see it as a chance to recharge and learn. As the saying goes, you can pour from an empty cup. #nyedchat
A2: A summer stance means researching the beliefs I have while keeping an open mind. Definitely benefits me in two ways: keeping the mind healthy and body calm. Easy to get overwhelmed in the "chaos" that often accompanies a busy life. #nyedchat
A2 In my “Summer stance” I’ve given my self carte Blanche to do what is right for me. Not easy since my DNA has been programmed to take care of others. #NYEDChat
A2 I think that when you truly assume a “summer stance” you just feel it. Taking time to see that movie today was a very calming moment (and well worth it). #NYEDchat
A2 I hope to find the time to connect with some of the staff at our school to learn with them and from them. We are starting at book study around @casas_jimmy amazing book #Culturize 10 staff are signed up and Jimmy sent us the book study guide to support the process. #NYEDChat
A2 In my “Summer stance” I’ve given my self carte Blanche to do what is right for me. Not easy since my DNA has been programmed to take care of others. #NYEDChat
A2 - No matter our year, summer is a time to reflect on that’s going great in education. Also, the break allows for a true chance to work on other passions we have besides teaching. It’s necessary for growth and rejuvenation. #NYEdchat
A2: A "summer stance" makes me think of lightning bugs, fireworks, red/white/blue popsicles & John Mellencamp songs! It makes me LOVE my students, miss them, & get excited about seeing them soon! #nyedchat
A2) I used to get stressed in the summer when I was in the classroom because I would get bored. Too much times on my hands! I taught summer school & was an AP for summer school or took PD classes to keep my mind working & focused #NYEDChat
A 2 It changes the intensity of teaching and continually thinking about students and how to support them and offers time to care for mind, body, and emotional wellness! #NYEDChat
I totally get what that is. As an educator and nurturer, it's easy to forget to take care of ourselves so that we can be the best we can be all year. It's a goal I set every year but some years gets away from me more than others. #nyedchat

#NYEDChat A3: Weather often drives event and activity locations. Soak up the sun with your friends and family. Vitamin D goes a long way to rejuvenate the body and mind.
A3: DO what feels right for you. I got caught in a debate over how people individually use their summer time. How I use mine works for me. We need to just focus on ourselves and that is not really something I feel someone else can tell me how to do. #nyedchat
My evening walks just before the sun starts to go down is one of my favorites times of day Rick. Maybe I should move it even a little earlier! #NYEDchat

A3: For me, to make it happen, I need to get it on the calendar...early and often. @mssackstein@Judy_Dodge Send me an invite and let's make it happen. #nyedchat

I read an article the other day that most people spend 22 hours a day in doors and recommended chaining that. That is certainly not me in the summer! #NYEDChat

A3 BE PRESENT. I still work a great deal in the summer but when I’m when family, they are the ONLY thing on my mind. We have to be sure that we’re ALL IN! #NYEDchat
A3) Take the time. Go outside - camping, the beach, the park. Swim. Go to the movies. Take a wk vacation (doesn’t have to be extravagant). Go to a summer conference #NYEDChat
A3 - As a workoholic, it has taken me years not to actually do school stuff. Now I realize that time away with those you love actually makes us appreciate our jobs even more. Make sure family time is family time. Not email or graded or even PD! #NYEDChat

A3 Take advice from @burgessdave#TLAP “Hook” then into your experience. Love to surprise my family with a big breakfast, quality time, a text message in the middle of the day to tell them I LOVE THEM and so proud of them! #slatergang is my ROCK! #NYEDChat
A3: MAKE the time to spend time with friends and family. For me, this means reaching out and scheduling the time. We’re not all teachers, and I’m coaching summer school, so the time still needs to be set aside. #NYEDchat
I’ve learned to love walking in my neighborhood. It helps get rid of those cob webs filled with too many thoughts. I stop and smell the roses. #nyedchat
A3: Be where you are, mentally as well as physically. I am writing a book this summer, have a bazillion things I dream of doing for the upcoming school year, and am travelling for The #Path2Serendipity a lot. But, my family deserves ALL of me when it is family time. #nyedchat
A3 The best advice I can think of: Know what makes you happy and do more if it. Read, walk, be with family, movies or just put your feet up and take moment to breathe. Whatever fills YOU with peace is on the good list! #NYEDchat
A3: Over the summer I try to decompress, turn my brain off often, and spend time with friends I haven’t had the time to see during the busy school year #NYEDChat
#BookCampPD - Question of the Day - Book, "Supporting Struggling Learners"
Why create an organized, flexible, and clutter-free classroom environment that welcomes and supports each and every student, so important, yet challenging for many educators?#LearnLAP#4thchat#nyEdChat
Evan mentioned being present. I love this term. We need to actually enjoy our time both in and out of school. Education is demanding at every level. Learning to breath and relax isn’t only great for us, it’s necessary for long term health. #NYEDChat
A3 As /ts we put non negotiables in the calendar first. Why not put Summer MUSTS in the calendar too? What we write own we’re more likely to do. #NYEDchat
A4 I get my to be read books ready for pleasure and another set for professional reading in the sun. Engage in my other passions: photography, poetry and hone my skills. #NYEDChat#digitalart
A4 Tons of reflection, reading, and organizing. Also some purging of tangible things I don't use anymore and negative thoughts I don't need anymore #Nyedchat
A4 I am by the pool every day that I can be. With three teachers in the family it doesn't take long for the conversation to turn to education. #NYEDChat
A4: I try to do a lot of reading in the summer, which I find relaxing, even if it is professional reading. I have quite the stack of titles waiting for me. #NYEDChat
My grandkids will be with me for a week and movies, the beach and whatever they want on my summer fun list! #NYEDChat Shh most everything else on the back burner

A4) Reflect, relax, rejuvenate, read, and reconnect. And, make lots of lists. Canva, Typorama, Word Swag, Venngage are great for creating graphics, memes, and images. #NYEDChat

A4 Read, write, listen to music, spend time with family and friends, chill …. Sometimes work is play so I celebrate that I love doing it and then find those quiet moments in between too #NYEDchat

A4: I meet up with friends and family that I have neglected throughout the year. We have lunch, sit and talk, or just catch a movie. It allows me to get my cup filled up again after pouring out all year. #nyedchat
A5 I'm looking to tackle this new curriculum that I'm teaching next year and acquire some hands on resources over the summer. Start building a stable of activities. #NYEDChat
Missed you at connected educators. Year passed me by quickly! Never enough time so thank you for joining us and making the time. We are talking about summertime! Any plans? #nyedchat
A4 I have “Coffice Conversations” in the summer with my local teachers at my adopted school. They call or write and we meet at Paneras or Starbucks and they lead the direction #NYEDchat
A5 JOY for this professional is always what I carry in my back pocket. Summer is a time of rejuvenation and we can fill that joy bucket to full to sustain us during the busy year. #NYEDchat
A4 I will remember that this week, Evan. I am traveling to VA for my grandbaby's 1st birthday. I will soak in the VA blue sky and do some power thinking. #NYEDChat

A5 I will definitely bring back to the upcoming professional year new ideas from books read, digital tools to #create#inspirational#digitalart, writing pieces for modeling. #NYEDChat
A4 Do like the teens do: hang out with family and friends. Chill, eat good food have a glass of wine or a beer. Going to reclaim a little bit of doing nothing earth chattering #nyedchat
A4 - After going to Captiva Island, my goal is to finish my book, blog, and send lots of time with family, friends and dogs! Also, lift everyday. #NYEDChat
A5: Trying to implement some more celebrations for student accomplishments next year. Will be preparing for that over the summer. We did a lot with SEL this year and hope to build upon that #NYEDChat
Relaxing and will be developing a few course for @participate over the summer. Hopefully, will also be getting my Google Level 1 and 2 certification. But now might be playing around with @Raspberry_Pi you? #nyedchat

A4. LOVE summer time conversations along the Truckee River with educators who enjoy spending time with each other/building strong relationships. #NYEDchat
A5 Continue to connect with kids in the classes I am lucky enough to sub in: from toddlers to 2nd grade (sometimes 3rd) Going to do lots of observing and listening so I get to really know them #nyedchat

I am walking and learning to meditate. And I'm going to read. A lot. And...play with #makecode - it looks like fun but I can't figure it out yet. So a little of this...and a little of that. @ericcurts has some awesome resource for G1 &2 https://t.co/eEdK5WZjkf#nyedchat

Great #nyedchat! Speaking of summering. Join me August 6th at noon EST as I keynote #wnysteamconference and start a new chat #PEAT. (Passionate, Engaging, Authentic Teaching). It helps students grow! More details to come.
We usually did this two or three times if we could fit it in. Once at the end to celebrate, near the 4th of July (or at Food Truck Fridays) and then before the school year began again. #NYEDChat
A4. LOVE summer time conversations along the Truckee River with educators who enjoy spending time with each other/building strong relationships. #NYEDchat
I would LOVE it if you would add your recommendations to our website https://t.co/2p5GsIuO0X It only takes two minutes to add a book and others check this list/site each day! #NYEDChat
My current balance tool is the new puppy. Miss Molly forces me to take a break from the busy to be bit by razor sharp teeth and try to calm old man Stanley as his new sister drives him crazy. #nyedchat
A5 As I move into a full time college position, look forward to not only sharing what I did, but hearing what students did in final moments before jumping into grad school, many just beginning their teaching careers! Connection is just as important in higher ed as K12 #nyedchat
#NYEDChat
Summer vacation is in 8 days for us here in southern Canada. It takes about a week for me to sort of decompress and relax and put my mind towards other things that I enjoy. Painting, cooking, playing music, walking, ..can't wait.
Guess what we can wear shorts hear on Long Island. Spring may have been short but it is still lovely even in the rain (which we had successive days in a row). #NYEDChat
Please join #NYEDChat when we return in September for a new year of #connections. Thanks to all of our colleagues for a stimulating year of conversations.
Almost time to say goodby to an amazing year of conversations. Remember #NYEDChat will return in September but we can still tweet to connect with our #PLN friends.
Think of your winters but it looks gorgeous outside. Totally misleading. At least the snow clues you in. The nice looking day is a mirage. It’s like being in a sauna outdoors #NYEDChat
WOW :-( not until September? I will surely go through withdrawl. It won't be pleasant but if it becomes overwhelming, I will send you @cvarsalona a tweet or twelve! #NYEDchat
I totally agree Laura. I think we all needed a shot of inspiration tonight. Keep on shining the light on reading throughout the summer. Lifelong reading Matters. #NYEDChat
Thank you to all of #NYEDChat's participants for sharing your voices with us tonight! We value your connected spirits. Enjoy #TheArtofSummering this summer!
Thank you @cvarsalona - I loved being able to share with others about #BookCampPD - FAR - Friends and Reading. I am glad you sent me a tweet/reminder :-) #NYEDChat
#NYEDChat withdrawal LOL-Summer hiatus to recharge for the NYEDChat team. Whew-another year has passed and we are inspired to soak in the sun and relax.
