Today's - "Your PLN pals are gathered in a room: What 1 question do you ask to spur rich conversations & help you grow?"
If I had all of my PLN is one room id ask about a time they 'lost' a class and how they got it back.
Two years ago in MA we had so many snow days our last day was June 29th!!
So go back to bed! (just kidding, always glad you're with us)
Yes I'm good. Roads are starting to get back to normal, but the side streets and parking are terrible
the one question I'd ask: HOW did you encourage S learning this week?
Good morning all! Betsy from nj here! Bio teacher checking in for
Morning ! Debby 1st grade teacher from NY.
Yes we have... but the county has not it appears
Good morning... Tim from Michigan. Using cell this morning so probably just lurking today.
I think how is your school year going this far. With a group of educators that always gets some kind of response!
Whoa. Still? What will you do with all your extra time Manny? https://t.co/yulXzt0G2S
Good Morning
Another Snow Day.
Easy: What one thing did you do today that pushed you well out of your comfort zone in front of Ss? https://t.co/qVkyBIDxWD
What keeps you guys coming back ? ( what's your drive?)
YES! I am a different educator because of this support.
Honestly. I havent been as productive as id like.
Good Morning, ! Brenda from Massachusetts- used yesterday's chat to spark a great discussion with grade leaders yesterday-THANK YOU
How can we learning from one another?
What is the one thing you feel has made the most impact to students?
What is inspiring you today?
If & I were 2gether I'd ask-What's every1 working on?
What is your idea of the perfect 90 min of classtime?
I think I would ask - what are some unique ways that you incorporate technology in your classroom
"What are your long term goals? How do you get there?"
love the action in mentoring rather than mentor.
Since this is your PLN you are talking to, what is your favorite chat
I might ask, where do you think education fails our students? In what way are we not serving them?
: How do you know when a student las learned something?
Tell me something funny that you learned a valuable lesson from.
"Name one challenge you overcame this month & how you overcame it." Everyone deserves a pat on the back, often we don't do it enough
How do you encourage reflection from your students? What are your strategies for reflection?
I would be interested in how folks build a global community for Ss, providing Ss w/ an authentic audience to share their learning.
I learn from this chat everyday- helps me focus my thinking and inspires me! I'm trying to get more colleagues to join!
Have to go with, "What are you reading?"
Also would like to know what works for you? How are you getting Ss involved in their education? 0
Perhaps that means you needed the down time.
In Ontario: June 29-ish usually our last day. We don't make up snow days=seldom call them.
...and what's it going to take for us to be in each other's classrooms routinely, share ideas, learn & grow together? Now.
"What's your favorite lesson you've ever taught?" (and sneak in 2nd question, "Why?")
Hi - long time since I've been able to join! Love today's question!
What has been your most effective experience and your least effective experience!
This shouldn't be a tough question, yet I'm struggling
What is something new you've tried with your students lately?
. Good morning! Susan from the Jersey Shore. I'd change all of the required testing, definitely! Useless, boring, torture!
I feel like that is a skill we don't talk about in methods.
That's often hard for Ts. We don't know how to "toot our own horns."
excellent. Keep showing them how this may be a tool to help them expand & grow !! https://t.co/0Yrg5F53cS
I learn from this chat everyday- helps me focus my thinking and inspires me! I'm trying to get more colleagues to join!
like the balance in this question!
Yes! And how do we help each other get there? Let's write them down & hold each other accountable to growth...
Or id ask what skill do you wish you were taught in Teaching School that is useful in your practice?
yes like the peer support, so vital !! https://t.co/1hNgPQAKz4
"Name one challenge you overcame this month & how you overcame it." Everyone deserves a pat on the back, often we don't do it enough
well I would start with what is the question as I was obviously answering the wrong question before! Got it now oops
A In the last 6 mo. what new tech. or technique helped improve your Ss engaging and collaborating?
I would probably ask all the admins in my PLN a question in regards to tech/test prep/etc...
Yesterday one of my boys wanted to make art to honor the Panthers and hide our spelling words in it so we did.
The blizzard was so bad that the school district lent its plows to the county. they just started the school yesterday.
yes would love to know the answer to this https://t.co/CQivyqDXMM
...and what's it going to take for us to be in each other's classrooms routinely, share ideas, learn & grow together? Now.
yea but you Canadians are tough !! Here they freak if it's 6 inches on the roads !!! https://t.co/NUSSLF3RD2
In Ontario: June 29-ish usually our last day. We don't make up snow days=seldom call them.
Everyone got their spelling practice done:)
I've been using to include people after a chat in the chat..
Since I do media this is a hard one for me.
We just came up with a month's worth of sparkchats here.
If we get freezing rain tonight, then i think thats the week.
I think it would be like meeting up with old friends first and then I think the convo would naturally evolve like it does w/friends.
For you this week I have pages for New York City and Philadelphia! Enjoy your Northeast visit.
Nice! Absolute game changer...rounds with Critical Friends follow through. This Q then is asked & answered weekly!
One I've pondered: How do we get Ss unconditioned from previous teaching methods & them comfortable being creative, think freely?
how can I help you and just as importantly, how can I help myself?
I can show up, be present & do the best I can 2 make sure my Ss have great opportunities for their future selves.
We had a full day yesterday; my boys had a delay.
Morning, all! Karl from the beautiful snow-walloped Jersey shore :)
Most effective exp: a Stamp Act taxation sim using M&Ms
if we get freezing rain tonight like they think, that might be the whole week.
there's so much wealth in speaking about challenges that should be shared as professionals. In doing so, you may help someone else
Will you make those days up?
hey guys - Dan from NJ. Great topic. Id say - what tips/tricks/hacks do you have to foster positive school culture?
was this question your sneaky way of building up more questions?
Another good one... "What is the best lesson you've had / seen this year?"
...and what are we doing about it right now? Every class, every day, every lesson, every student. It's down to us.
is everything slushy by you? It
s so mild here this morning
Thanks for that big smile:). We all have something to give.
That made me laugh out loud! we called a cold weather day last year at -40C =P freakout!
. I'd also ask, "What's your best go-to that gets the kids excited to learn?" Can always use an addition to the bag of tricks.
Haha! Here they freak if it's 1/2inch on the roads!
I could deal with snow when I had to commute to school but ice was a much different story. Stay safe!
Probably some. Since we are in a state of emergency I dont think we HAVE to make them up. but we might.
Hey .... Are you just fishing for topics for future ?
Hey .... Are you just fishing for topics for future ?
Trying to remember when we met ... what were our questions ??? I think we just tried to find common ground
I really like what are you reading. Sometimes it takes trust to honest answers. What are you reading is easy to answer.
Yes, so much we don't know till we are actually out there. That's were the mentoring comes in https://t.co/IJIWLzCDpS
Or id ask what skill do you wish you were taught in Teaching School that is useful in your practice?
Good morning! Late to joining this morning...just shovelled snow! 😟
Man. I've got to head into class, but I'm loving seeing these Qs! Enjoy the day friends.
Good morning from Lancaster, PA! HS ELA
I think a broad question is good, like share a success or challenge, but I also like focus chats on pd, learning walks, PBL and UDL
How can you build a school culture that encourages active Ss participation in decision-making?
You got me to start writing. Have a beautiful Wednesday!
Not if the county took your plows...implied permission.
YES! No longer can education be confined within the walls of a school. We must involve our communities - local & global.
thats true. At the end of the day we are the ones who interact with the kids, not policies.
that's a super fun lesson. Love the kids reactions to this lesson.
I can hear the rooster for the 1st time in a while and am listening to the water flow from the roof to the gutters.
In CT, we ALWAYS have to make them up. Have gone to end of June 3 yrs in a row.
We had a 2hr delay last Thursday for a dusting!!!
Various ways folks assist Ss in transferring their understanding from one situation &apply to new settings for deeper understanding
Newark was in the same boat until last night. Back to school for them today (live next door, used to teach there)
I could,t handle that I'm a wimp !!! https://t.co/CF2nl4AlN7
That made me laugh out loud! we called a cold weather day last year at -40C =P freakout!
In what ways have you grown as an educator this year? What are your goals for continuing growth? How can I help?
What fun did your students have while learning? How did you enjoy your own class?
You know you are not in MA any more. lol
Ending a few minutes early, my daughter just woke up talk to everyone tomorrow :)
😳 You think?! My 10th grade daughters still have to finish exams
Indeed. Although it also speaks to the importance of having our voice at the policy table (another good Q for my PLN).
assessing during learning is a real problem. Teachers arent taught how to do that,
We might need to include links to a google doc for that one :))
Good morning. I would ask: How do you support your Ss' need for movement, novelty, social interaction, and making connections?
love this question too I hope we have lots of time to talk! https://t.co/HhS1a2BLCR
hey guys - Dan from NJ. Great topic. Id say - what tips/tricks/hacks do you have to foster positive school culture?
'Stay the course' when implementing something 'new' (research-informed) in district...avoid jumping from one new thing to another.
we were first time -ers and we navigated the day together. Asked a lot about each other's district.
do you do a lot of one shot wonders? They came, the researched, they left - & I chase colleagues for feedback
How to build high performing PLCs to increase student and adult learning?
What risks have you taken lately in your classroom? Was it successful?
And you are definitely doing it!
How long are your learning walks?
Maybe. Depends on if the ice actually comes. some are doubting it.
Seems like such a long road some days. Hard to always maintain vision of what you want it to be like 4 S https://t.co/PhXZ5rqDT5
One I've pondered: How do we get Ss unconditioned from previous teaching methods & them comfortable being creative, think freely?
yes don't forget Sparkchat on voxer after the chat !!
