I have a ton, but one of my all-time faves (that I keep coming back to) is For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood by @chrisemdin - relevant, practical, and inspiring! #jcpschat
A1: I recently read Coherence by Fullan & Quinn for my @UofL_EdLead doc class. Gave me insane insight into my own thinking about systems within my classroom and building and equity in those systems. Very intriguing. #JCPSChat
Right now, I'm loving my #JCPSBlindDate Coretta Scott King Award Books Discussion by Phelps & McCullough. It's giving me great ideas on discussing and promoting the CSK winners that I can have in an elementary library. #JCPSChat
By the way, Allyson Vitato, Principal, Norton Commons Elementary. I don’t really binge watch, but I did watch Abducted in Plain Sight and it was INSANE. #JCPSChat

A1: Favorite instructional read- “Falling in Love with Close Reading” is my all time favorite! I received this book during student teaching @coral_ridge and still use close reading during guided reading in my classroom today! #jcpschat@jcpsforward
I just love to ask open ended questions of my kids, and let them lead as much as possible in projects , discussions, and writing. Sometimes they may go in weird directions, but sometimes they will take you somewhere you never imagined. #JCPSChat
I actually do something that I like to call "The Great Math Debate" - its super simple in theory. Every student gets the same difficult math word problem, solve it on their own, then get into a group & debate about the answer. It's all about the explanation &reasoning. #jcpschat
A2: I use puzzles in the language, fake news, and Today in history readings/discussions, interactive bulletin boards, trivia competitions in the language... #JCPSChat
A2: Scavenger Hunts. (Posting leveled questions around the room and setting Ss loose with paper and a clipboard.) Movement? Check! Collaboration? Check! Critical Thinking? Check! #JCPSChat
A2: I love giving them unanswerable questions to debate. Especially when we’re studying argumentation. The logic of 9th graders is a gold mine. I also work in metacognitive reflection and self-assessment. #JCPSChat
A2: I actually utilize a lot of the routines in 'Making Thinking Visible' by Ron Ritchhart during our "collaborative thinking time" shout out @realspoo for introducing me to critical thinking routines!!!!!!! #jcpschat
A2: Teaching students how to use "Math discourse". Students have discourse bookmarks with sentence starters for guidance. Encourages convo to get deeper and encourages Ss to put math thinking into words. #JCPSChat
I'm ELA, so I use vocabulary from what we're reading, content specific terms/concepts, practice with language skills. Etc. Sometimes I'll do this as a formative assessment. Ss love the "Up" Activity/movement. #jcpschat
A2: I've been incorporating multi-disciplinary performance assessments. For example, students had a scenario where they had to pitch an energy proposal to a town, using mathematical, environmental, and literacy concepts. Something that is open ended and authentic.

I love a good card sort. Kids looking at multiple ways of representing a problem and making connections. We have the best discussions when they “respectfully disagree!” It’s all about evidence and supporting your ideas. #jcpschat
A2: I see a lot of this in our classrooms, but I love innovation, and my favorite activity right now is @breakoutEDU because I love to watch the thought processes of the kids! #JCPSChat
A3: a well appointed library, reading materials and classroom texts that are culturally diverse so students can see themselves in literature! #JCPSChat
Right now, I primarily focus on why our LibGuide-listed databases are great choices (proper reading levels, good information, trustworthy) and I show the older Ss examples of how people can edit Wikipedia to show it's a good starting point w/refs, but not a source.
A2: Lot of critical thinking to be had with our #DLDayJCPS choice board! Can't wait to see how students are learning digitally on February 28th! #JCPSchat
A2: I love giving students the option to show their understanding of a text with a choice project! Some students choose artwork, google slides, and even create their own podcasts to demonstrate their learning in creative ways! #jcpschat
A1: I bring this one up a lot, but it has been a life saver every time I’ve changed grades. The Van De Walle book for elem and middle school math. #JCPSChat
A2: I second @msebyates I love giving the students very clear parameters and a limited number of requirements for a studio project. Then let their imagination run wild within those limits to solve the problem at hand. #mindmapping#brainstorming#sometimeschaos#JCPSChat
A3: My classroom library is a huge source of equity in my instruction. We read every single day, and I need student choice to be central in my literacy instruction. So I’ve invested a lot of time and energy to make sure it’s accessible and interesting. #JCPSChat
A3: Comprehensible Input is by nature equitable. The method itself involves ALL students having input in the development of the lessons. The needs and passions of the students are considered throughout. #jcpschat
A3 Student voice & choice is so important. I listened to a podcast this week about using student surveys on Fridays to shape the next week's lesson. It was eye-opening. I'll link it as soon as I find it. #jcpschat
A3: Right now, I'm focusing on collection development and promotion. I had quite a few older books, some of which definitely did not promote equity. Going about replacing those w/better choices. #JCPSChat
A3: @focusededucator is a wonderful resource for our school. I try to read articles to better my practice. @Tolerance_org shares a lot of insightful articles that I find useful. Lastly, allowing #studentvoice in the classroom helps. #JCPSChat
A3: I use the danielson framework, especially the literacy framework as a way to guide and calibrate my work..while those frameworks are not specifically about equity, it maintains a standard of instruction that promotes the type of teaching to bring about equity #jcpschat
A3: Student choice--EX: "News Reporter" project. Ss selected their topic from a diverse set of options, earned a text set, wrote research questions, and worked to find answers with a partner using KYVL. Now they are scripting and will film their news segments in the coming week.
A3: Twitter and my students. Following the right people has led to a ton of ideas to implement, articles to read, etc. Letting my Ss have a voice/ownership in the classroom as well.#JCPSChat
A2: Sometimes ELs need wait time and/or opportunities to practice their thinking- sentence starters and frames are excellent ways to help get their critical thinking out. #JCPSESL#JCPSChat
A4: Think this year has taken my fear of trying a new strategy and thrown it out the window! Learned to not let my fear get in the way of my kids. Going to try numberless word problems soon in my class.#JCPSChat
A4: I have not tried Socratic Circles with my babies (9th graders). Mainly because I’m terrified they’ll be ornery to each other. 🙄 I am going to make myself though. If I don’t teach them respectful discourse, who will? #JCPSChat
A4: I can’t think of anything I’m afraid to do. But I know there are a lot of things I want to try and I talk myself out of it because I tell myself there isn’t time. Especially this time of year with KPREP and defenses. #JCPSChat
A4: Good question...this is really making me reflect. I have been implementing @IllustrateMath this year &trying to be faithful to the curriculum. Hard to let my struggling learners go on their own and explore bc I want to support. Staying close but not too close. #jcpschat

A4: Everything is still so new to me, lol. I don't know if there's anything I'm necessarily afraid to try, but I'm sure there's something scary out there I just haven't come across yet. :) #JCPSChat
A4: I love trying new things though! Sometimes I try really interesting new ideas and they completely flop and I learn from it, but I like being innovative. #JCPSChat
A3: Get to know your students, what experiences have they had, incorporate read-alouds that reflect your students culture and background. #jcpsesl#JCPSChat
A4: I'm still very afraid of doing guided/slient sustain reading...even though I'm in the midst of rolling it out this year lol but there are so few middle school examples of what reading workshops/ book clubs look like that I don't have a lot of points of reference😅 #jcpschat
A3: Twitter and my students. Following the right people has led to a ton of ideas to implement, articles to read, etc. Letting my Ss have a voice/ownership in the classroom as well.#JCPSChat
I believe a big part of leadership is a willingness to put yourself out there, try everything, help whenever/wherever you can. I have learned leadership skills in the past by watching others lead #jcpschat

A5: @michelleshory took the best possible answer. I think @jcpsforward and all the tangent connections it creates is a superb example of teacher leadership. #JCPSChat
A5: Teacher leadership also looks like the 50 district level and 175 building ambassadors for @JCPSForward, helping to engage educators in their buildings and on social media! #JCPSChat
A5 I think another strength of the #teacherleadership movement in @jcpsky is the ability to look at the 100,000+ students we have in this district and say that we are doing what's best for ALL of them. #ourkids#jcpschat

A5: Teacher leadership in @JCPSKY is what has reinvigorated me. Finding positive people to learn from, being that positive person for others. @jcpsforward ambassadors, DL conference... #JCPSChat
A5: Leadership to me is lifting your school up and doing what they need you to do to keep students and families involved. I coach several teams including cross country, soccer, and quick recall at my school. I love making connections with other coaches and schools. #jcpschat
A6: I love the Eye Dropper Chrome extension. It lets me match up any color in a jif! Also I can't live without my @canva. It makes my work SOOO much easier (and stylish)! #JCPSChat
A6: I will forever answer @RemindHQ for this question. Some of my (academically and emotionally) neediest kids can have a safe, sane way of contacting me. The low formality demolishes barriers left and right. #JCPSChat
A6: For me, NOT the students due to content, Bitmoji. I'm sort of obsessed with my Bitmoji. For the Ss, ALL THE GOOGLES! Right now, 2nd-5th are exploring @GoogleForEdu Drawings and loving them. For both: @Screencastify#JCPSChat
A6: @Screencastify@nearpod and @padlet ... I used these tools at least once a week for introduction of content, student assessment, and most importantly student engagement!!! #jcpschat
A6: @Flipgrid is the one I have tried out the most this year and love! The students have become so creative in the videos they make. We even had to create a HW help grid because they wanted a place to post questions if they needed help from home. #JCPSChat
A6: Everyone @OlmstedNorth knows I am the @Flipgrid queen, I love it because it supports and allows our students to demonstrate mastery of standards in multiple modalities #jcpschat

A6: I think one of my favorites that is used in my classroom often is @DoInkTweets. We used it for book reviews, mock trials, book re-enactments, etc. #JCPSChat
It has been great for our ELLs. A place to practice language and hear themselves back. They are more comfortable sometimes answering in English through the video than in class. #JCPSChat
A5: Teacher leadership is not asking what can be done for you but what you can do for others. We can’t feel like we are better than those we serve...we must create mutual and trusting relationships! #JCPSchat
