Hello chat! I'm a Training Admin for CPS & former teacher. Let's get this thing going! . T
-
A2: I've been using for two years now but mine is more a focus on
-
A1: Confession - I haven't used interactive science notebooks at all. But I'd love to learn more about them.
-
-
Oops! I had it on top tweets, not live! Cindy, STEM Coordinator from Northwest Louisiana Hi, everyone!
-
A1, have used old school science notebooks. Looking to learn more
-
-
You came to the right place!
-
A1: I haven't used it with students but I want to learn more about them since I want to be an Elementary Science Teacher
-
-
Hi all! Norma, Texas, high school Bio and A&P.
-
A1: I started about 4 years ago after attending a science conference.
-
A1: Never had the chance to use them in science. Would love to learn about its virtual features
-
-
A1: Never used them, however am very interested in learning what I can do to support student learning with it.
-
You came to the right place. Ask questions!
-
-
A1: I have not used ISN either
-
What would be one example for me to look at. Is the Science Journal in the Chrome app store an example of one?
-
We got a pro in the house!! Grad Students connect with Paula!!
-
Can you tell me more about your notebooks? https://t.co/pNbny749y0
-
-
A2: I've been using for two years now but mine is more a focus on
-
A1 I've been using for 5 years. Started working at middle schoo levell now working at highschool level.
-
Other than , where is the best place to go to learn more about ?
-
-
I would love to share how!!
-
A1: Great! Do you find its implementation easy? Or does it require a lot of PD?
-
I will share examples towards the end of the chat.
-
-
Of course!! I need to have that as a topic next month for
-
I am still learning, and with new technology, I will be learning from the grad students!
-
2nd Question Coming up next!
-
A1: Wonder if similar notebooks for math applications.
-
Do you find that students are more engaged in lessons as they use these notebooks?
-
You need to share!! We have Grad Students in the house tonight!!
-
I am not sure. I found resources for my via Pinterest.
-
I find it takes planning ahead! Our social studies department has it down to a "science"!
-
I have seen it used in math also.
-
-
A1: I'm just the sponge in the corner rn. Ideas for my Ts.
-
We will learn from each other!! https://t.co/JgZAdxyjdX
-
-
I am still learning, and with new technology, I will be learning from the grad students!
-
-
Yes you can do this with .
-
My students are more engaged with
-
I can put something together!!
-
-
If they come to you never doing ISN's, it can be frustrating at first. After a few gray hairs, yes!
-
, I think tardy is my middle name with this group--it's Anne from Central Florida, Hi Katie Ann
-
A2: in our ISN, we use a lot of graphic organizers, models, and foldables
-
I agree It does take time to plan. I have a Master Notebook. It also helps me stay on my timeline
-
A2 completed a virtual dissection in an online science. wonder if students can see content related animations
-
-
I found it easy to implement and kids live it because they have everything that we've done at hand.
-
A2 visual notes with visual clues and very interactive are key for most of my students
-
What types of foldables? Where do you find them?
-
I would use it for them to take their notes, organize themselves, and collaborate with their peers.
-
Perfect! Do you create your own activities for students to complete?
-
A1: This is my first year of Science ISN. We are enjoying them. I include vocab, sketchnotes, and concept foldables.
-
-
I use it in that manner as well! Great way to keep them accountable for their learning. https://t.co/pzGh0gBKpC
-
-
I would use it for them to take their notes, organize themselves, and collaborate with their peers.
-
Great use! Acts as an interactive graphic organizer. Great to maintain attention and create structure.
-
A2 Everything! Kids keep their notes, foldables, and work that we think is important.
-
It is 50% I create & 50% I find else where.
-
I can see how that can happen. Its always tricky to teach students how to use new things
-
3rd Question Coming up next!
-
I create most or all of the pages. I teach second grade. By the end of the year they will take over the cornell notes pages.
-
Would you include pictures and videos, in an ISN?
-
We do left side student input, right side teacher output. I list of student output options helps the Ss.
-
I have looked at them. They help give me inspiration. https://t.co/SkBMdHPtDJ
-
-
Diane Zahn put out some books years ago with basic formats. Help kids organize their learning. Old school
-
I love that idea!! https://t.co/LIK8iCXMDK
-
-
We do left side student input, right side teacher output. I list of student output options helps the Ss.
-
I do. Via QR Codes or AR Triggers.
-
I use pictures or diagrams in the notebooks. I also have Sci. and SS blended in the book to show how subjects connect
-
-
My mentor teacher is in 2nd grade would print out their science journal with info and instructions. Effective!
-
Almost always use graphic organizers in my classrooms. Emphasizes what's important and provides structure
-
That is a great idea as well! https://t.co/IueAdtAK2J
-
-
My mentor teacher is in 2nd grade would print out their science journal with info and instructions. Effective!
-
Think that's a great idea!
-
a3: It depends on the topic but all could be done by students. As for Engineer by Design, could you explain that
-
-
A3: not there yet in Florida, but starting the conversations with fellow Ts
-
A3:Have students create their own visual representations of content. Also provide blank templates to fill in when taking notes
-
-
GREAT! Everyone has to start somewhere!
-
A3: Yes! I give the students those options, and Google Draw.
-
Awesome to see some of these answers with such young S's using ISN. I wish some of my student's had that background in HS
-
Love that idea! https://t.co/y7h4C14uMz
-
-
A3:Have students create their own visual representations of content. Also provide blank templates to fill in when taking notes
-
I see how this can work! Especially for students that are being introduced to ISN
-
-
- 4th Question is Coming up next!
-
A3 Yes, we do a lot of infographics, flow charts, and drawings. I love having my Ss create visuals they will remember.
-
, I need to play with google draw.
-
The more we use ISN at a younger level the more HS Ss will carry that note taking into HS. https://t.co/DL0f46Amsu
-
-
Awesome to see some of these answers with such young S's using ISN. I wish some of my student's had that background in HS
-
-
I love Google draw! I had my kids create original photosynthesis diagrams... the high school version.
-
-
-
-
It is great. Maybe I can make that a topic for a chat.
-
That is awesome! https://t.co/uCIr0dJifx
-
-
I love Google draw! I had my kids create original photosynthesis diagrams... the high school version.
-
-
-
-
-
I have students draw pictures of definitions in order for them to create their own meaning of content
-
A4--I bought a second grade science book that I add pages for vocab, etc. I download from TPT, TN and I love foldables
-
A4 I spend a lot of time creating my work when I can't find what I want. I also spend a lot of time on Google.
-
Definitely use Pinterst! They have tons of engaging lessons and activities. They always lead me to new things
-
Teachers love to create!!
-
5th Question is Coming up next!
-
A4: I love pinterest! I also borrow ideas from my PLN on twitter, or at conferences! Why recreate the wheel?
-
A4 I recently bought the Biology coloring book & A&P coloring book so my kids can have good visuals.
-
A4: I refer to and others for my science district newsletter.
-
Yes!! I love it when we can connect with others & share! We are stronger together.
-
-
OH wow a coloring book for Biology. I have a few pages you will like that does.
-
I recently discovered that! I printed the cells today.
-
A5:Provide multiple options for students to notetake and make connections to content ie:pics, graphs, matching, drawing, puzzles
-
-
A5 My first rule of the ISN is that your notebook is for you. You can add info as long as you have whats on the rubric
-
Love that!! Give them choices! https://t.co/yn5xDAlfuS
-
-
A5:Provide multiple options for students to notetake and make connections to content ie:pics, graphs, matching, drawing, puzzles
-
A5 Stay consistent, good rubric, clear expectations for Ss, & if you're going to grade them get through them quickly.
-
I tell my Ss that too. This is your resource.
-
A5: It is ok to mess up, keep your own ISN & create your own student output from time to time & show the Ss.
-
Agreed! provide choice and variety with clearly defined expectations. Same goal, different
ways to achieve it!
-
6th Question is Coming up next!
-
-
A5: One tip would be to have a model of an ISN to present them with. Having expectations will help as they begin to create them
-
A5 part 2 Teach Ss to be creative with it. Figure out what's more important for you the TT, don't harp on perfection.
-
I let my Ss look at me as a reference. Works great for the ones that miss class.
-
A5: Just started using them this year, as others mentioned it's important to give choices. Our S's already dif have go-to tools
-
A6: Has anyone used Read&Write for Chrome? Makes great vocab lists, quick and easy!
-
Totally agree! Some kids are just messy.
-
I have not. I will have to try it.
-
A6 we open each unit with Vocab. Flip charts, diagrams, or flaps... With pictures and prefixes, suffix, and root words
-
A6: It depends on the students and how they learn. Some are visual learners so drawing will work best for them
-
Q6: examples, non examples, visuals, putting it in their own words, breaking down parts of the word (prefix, suffix, root)
-
A6 All vocab pages are recorded on green flip pages so they stand out.
-
7th Question is Coming up next!
-
-
Absolutely. Effective use comes in knowing your students!
-
-
I swear my Ss look at me confused when they ask how do you want this in the notebook and I answer "your choice"
-
-
-
A7: rubric: focus on organization and consistency
-
-
Does anyone have a rubric they use that they would like to share?
-
A7: I let the students know which pages will be graded and what is expected. I use Office Lens to capture them onto one note.
-
That is a great idea!! https://t.co/xdKgdBgs6p
-
-
A7: I let the students know which pages will be graded and what is expected. I use Office Lens to capture them onto one note.
-
A7: We have a rubric with the few main objectives for the unit. Format is what works for them, as long as the content is there!
-
-
-
-
A7 I concentrate on content
-
You are welcome! If you have questions just shout!
-
-
- 8th Questions is Coming up next!
-
-
-
-
-
I already did. ;-) I have them in my .
-
-
-
I haven't used AR yet. I haven't used it since ST4T workshop in June.
-
-
A8 Bit tricky for me all we have are Chromebooks and I'm not sure about making Ss download apps. Still trying to figure it out.
-
-
Stick with me and I can help you!
-
-
You have to have a mobile device to see the AR content.
-
-
-
Are there any questions about using augmented reality in Interactive Notebooks?
-
the sad part is I have sooooo many ideas!
-
-
Thank you! That might be the one I use to.
-
Are there any other resources you would like to share on Interactive Science Notebooks?
-
You know how to reach me. ;-)
-
-
I need to explore the triggers to see what I can include--I have cells and globes
-
I will share out the resources for tonight's chat! If you have some you want to share let me know.
-
If you need help just shout!
-
- Thank you for joining us tonight! Continue the conversation using the hashtag and or by join the AR 4 Education group.
-
-
is really good too, you create your own triggers, the Ss love that.
