A1: I really liked learning about Inquiry Design Model at the #JCPSDL Symposium. I cannot wait to do that work in my classroom! It will really be something that can be added to the #JCPSBackPack. #JCPSChat
A1 Diverse Learners Institute was FABULOUS THIS YEAR!!! Lots of great social emotional material!! Deeper Learning Symposium was also pivotal. #JCPSChat#KNOWmoore
A1: #JCPSDL Symposium is always a highlight. Also, I went to @KCDschool 's Tech-Teach-Learn conference. Also, it's not "official" PD, but working with the camps at @NEYMCA certainly helped develop me professionally! #JCPSChat
A1): I attended the Deeper Learning Symposium (which was awesome), a few MAP trainings, #JCPSBackpack training, and a dissertation writing session.

A1 @TeachThoughtPD, @teachmeetky, Let's TALK @KentuckyReading and of course Priority Teacher Insitute, all amazing stuff that really prepared me to take on this year and as a result we are doing PBLs throughout the year and we will be implementing genius hour!! #jcpschat

A1: Priority Teacher Institute, Deeper Learning Symposium and several other district PDs. In addition, I read lots of books/articles from @SolutionTree and books on topics such as equity. #JCPSChat
#jcpschat - I attended Google classroom session that helped me understand docs, slides and more. I also completed a Kentucky Reading Association Retreat. Powerful stuff!
A2: My big take away to keep things simple. I need to make sure I am really addressing how people learn, rather than trying to do the "cool thing." It has changed the way I look at my instruction. #JCPSChat
A1: I attended a Kagan training and it was great! Also attended an orientation for new employees to my district. It was so nice to feel welcomed! #JCPSChat
A2. A major takeaway from Restorative Practices training is how to do things WITH students, not for, to, or NOT for them. Also, using affective language is a wonderful way to communicate on a human level.
@iirpgradschool#JCPSChat
Carol Hawkins, @BreckFrankLIB Breckenridge-Franklin, highlight of my summer was getting my picture taken in front of the castle before the park opened #JCPSChat
A2 We must think about the whole child and focus on trauma while planning lessons within the classroom/school. Social Emotional Curriculum is must if we are going to move our students to the next level of success. #JCPSChat#KNOWmoore
A2. #jcpschat The importance/impact of affective statements and questions when implementing restorative practices. These are vital if you are trying to change behaviors and improve culture.
A2: The role that librarians will play in the #JCPSBackpack initiative. I also learned some really great new tools that are integrated w/@GoogleForEdu Classroom. #JCPSChat
A2: 1. Your #KYPLN will love & support you, even from afar. 2. Self-care is just as important as checking things off your (never-ending) to-do list. #happiness#wearebettertogether#JCPSChat
A1: Attended #JCPSDL Symposium and #EdCampKY It was a great Summer of learning for me. I have made so many great contacts and am so prepared for this year. #JCPSChat
A2: They seem like basics, but I'm not sure I had ever truly embraced them properly: (a) Positive Reinforcement works so. incredibly. well. (b) All students need repetition and novelty to grasp core concepts. #JCPSChat
A2: I forgot about the one that has changed my lessons/teaching this year more than anything & that was the #KYGoDigital event in June while I was in Denver. I’m using the choose your own adventure ELA stations during guided reading. Attempting individualized learning #JCPSChat
A2: JCPS’ commitment to Racial Equity must permeate throughout EVERY decision we make. It’s just important to the success to our District and community. #JCPSChat
#JCPSChat
A2: I learned so much about the @JCPSDL vision and great ideas that sparked additional personal exploration. I love deeper learning, student-led conferences and defenses.

A2- strategies to help champions be more innovative with learning in the classrooms and how to connect careers to middle grades to move the needle for high schools once they leave middle school #JCPSChat
A2: I'm moving beyond using inquiry as just a strategy and using it as the driving force of instruction because it puts the learning experience wholly in the hands of the student #jcpschat
A2.1- big takeaway was merging a series of systems into a coherent outlook on how we “do” school. We had spent a lot of time developing pockets of brilliance, but crosscutting that into all of the work was the next logical step. Which is THE heavy lift-

Takeaways! 1. We are the ones that create the climate and set the temperature in the room. 2. Utilizing the backpack of skills makes learning more authentic. 3. Love what you do and share your PASSION with others. Negativity has to go! #jcpschat
A2: This summer I learned that while “hitting the standards” is important, it seems more important to build a positive school culture through relationship building. Don’t be afraid to be the outsider if no one else wants to get on board with what you do. Be positive. #JCPSChat
A2.2-because sustainability requires careful attention to the details of the bigger picture work. Ideas are great, but the process as the young folks say must be trusted; and concretely developed.

Digital Storytelling gives students another tool for demonstrating their learning and sharing their stories with the world around them #JCPSChat#NGAEducators
A3: I would like a follow up for both the #KYGoDigital training. Maybe like a 201 and where we can ask more questions and also with @MettilleJesse because I’m trying to get my guided reading perfect and want to ask him all kinds of questions. #JCPSChat
A3: I would love for some of these awesome sessions to have condensed versions offered during the year. I hated missing out on a lot of the Backpack training, and the Diverse Learner Institute. A mini/digital round 2 would be awesome. #JCPSChat
A2: The role that librarians will play in the #JCPSBackpack initiative. I also learned some really great new tools that are integrated w/@GoogleForEdu Classroom. #JCPSChat
A3- Common district instructional framework and look-Fors. I’m ready to see the collective great educators of JCPS identify what we want to see in every class, every day, with deep support surrounding that work. We have the horsepower.
#jcpschat
A3 I want to know more about the #JCPSBackPack . I’ve watched @kids_inspire videos but don’t have a great understanding of it as I would like to have. #jcpschat
A3): A deeper "dive" into performance assessments. I have integrated them into my curriculum, but I would love to see different models/rubrics. They are great for the #JCPSBackpack.

A3- for all the ones asking for backpack training and follow up check with your school. Each school has a team that is being trained that should be working with the teachers. This is on going training through your the year to sustain the work and build capacity #JCPSChat
It's amazing to see our #JCPSChat participants talk about the #KYGoDigital virtual event they attended while they were on vacation! Special #SHOUTOUT to @me1odystacy for her leadership on that event! #JCPSChat

A3 I know I want access to models and strategies that have worked for closing literacy gaps specifically for males of color. I know I've been reading/ inspired by @AlfredTatum's work and I'm just like YES GIVE ME MORE OF THIS #jcpschat
Yes!! Reaching efficacy as a teacher (and a learner) requires a deep dive, not stretching yourself out too thin to the point of either burnout or simply checking off a box. We’re so on the same page with this... #JCPSchat
A3.3- last one: more and deep dive into interdisciplinaryplanning and support for our @AcademiesofLou work. When we do that we’ll, we’ll be making some real hay. Not standalone, but real relevant frameworks on that work. #jcpschat
A4: I have already thought about how I will use the new @JCPSKY instructional frameworks to make sure I am as student centered as possible. It is always my goal, but I want to be even more intentional than I have been. #JCPSChat
Takeaways! 1. We are the ones that create the climate and set the temperature in the room. 2. Utilizing the backpack of skills makes learning more authentic. 3. Love what you do and share your PASSION with others. Negativity has to go! #jcpschat
A4: Allowing myself to be silly and to have fun teaching again. I feel so reinvigorated and passionate. It is wonderful. I missed this version of me. #JCPSChat
A4. I conducted both sequential and non-sequential circles in my classes on day one, based on my Restorative Practices training with my @MeyzeekMiddle through @iirpgradschool! It's helped me to learn so much about my Ss already.
#JCPSChat
I attended KYTeachMeet in Bowling Green where each session lasted only 20 minutes. It was a great experience, and I felt I was able to attend and learn much more since the sessions were so quick and to the point.#JCPSChat
A4: Choosing to spend the 1st part of the semester examining identity, bias, and building culture, even in my asynchronous online English 101-102 courses. #JCPSChat
A4: Allowing myself to be silly and to have fun teaching again. I feel so reinvigorated and passionate. It is wonderful. I missed this version of me. #JCPSChat
A4: Back to my big takeaways: Building in more positive reinforcement as well as novel repetition. Also, trying to give students more options for their own learning paths. #JCPSChat
A4- I started the summer with the intent to codify what I wanted instructional support to look like front to back on campus and create a sustainable process were closer to that no than before by leagues. #jcpschat
A4: For the past week ive been building my #PBL community so that we can jump in to our first project in the next two weeks. I am also almost finished with my first choose your own adventure slide for my ELA stations next week. #JCPSCHAT
A4): Striving for a true student-centered experience. I'm using a gradual release by slowly implementing student choice/voice into the curriculum. The goal is a high inquiry, high choice environment.
#JCPSChat
A3. Trauma-informed practices/ SEL everything. Everything else we do has to be funneled through this lens if we are going to live up to our promise to help EVERY child succeed. #JCPSChat
A4. I haven’t started, but will use Pd to 1) return to teaching what I know the kids need &in a way they need to learn 2)technology is a tool not a lesson but a tool we have to use w/our students 3) we have to positively implement high expectations for every student #jcpschat
A4: I’m using Twitter Chat and Instagram as means to keep students engaged outside of the classroom. I’m also focusing more on relationship building through positive communication with students and their caregivers. Laying the foundation for a great year and beyond. #JCPSChat
A3- for all the ones asking for backpack training and follow up check with your school. Each school has a team that is being trained that should be working with the teachers. This is on going training through your the year to sustain the work and build capacity #JCPSChat
1. Real talk sessions about Racial Equity and what it looks like or doesn't look like in our schools. 2. Helping teachers teach and assist students who have been exposed to trauma.3. Creating mini YouTube sessions for students to help them prepare for Backpack defenses.#JCPSCHAT
A4. #jcpschat Opening and closing restorative circles to start and end a meeting, week, or class period. Have already used them with the entire faculty and within smaller settings such my own classroom or team. Build that classroom culture!
A5: I am new to @ShawneeAcademy, but I can tell we are really addressing the SEL of our students. Restorative practices are alive and well and part of our culture. In my room, I am helping them realize the better vision of themselves so that they can #BeMore#JCPSChat
A4. my 8th graders have been focusing on community building and growth mindset via self-reflection & metacognition. They have to believe they can, & they have to have a toolbox to work with. We can’t just say “have a growth mindset, kid” and expect instant resilience #JCPSchat
A4: I know I've been adamant about communicating family members being co-teachers. I'm just taking baby steps now with intros & phones calls but I'm making sure that I work hard at building family relationships...not just students #jcpschat#Deeperfamilyengagment

A5: our entire @GreenwoodElemen staff attended @BIEpbl training this summer so we will be implementing #PBL school wide throughout the year. The projects our staff created are #awesomesauce#JCPSChat
Sweet! I'm definitely of the feely variety, but I have enough high schoolers that are not that I would like a better approach for bringing them in to the community. #JCPSChat
A5- we removed the use of cellphones in class. Not even for kahoot/research. This was a teacher led need, and while it’s been a battle so far I can say hands down engagement has increased tremendously. It’s not the latest/greatest PD- but quite frankly it’s working.
#jcpschat
A5: New to my school, but we are really being intentional about guided reading. We are also focusing on integrating the 7 habits and leadership skills into lessons. #JCPSChat

A6: The goals (@AVID4College and WICOR strategies) seem unchanged, but the methods (having stronger PLC focus and allowing for more digital resources intra-school) feels like a great shift. #JCPSChat
A6: We are going to have differentiated staff meetings based on our needs. I know some of the topics are PBL, Guided reading, technology. We will also be having follow up sessions with @MettilleJesse and @BIEpbl#JCPSChat

A5: So far this year our admin team is really pushing us to “hit the standards” but build that strong relationship. Step out of our comfort zones. It’s exactly what I feel is the way we should be going. I’m pretty fired up about this year. #JCPSChat
A6: The @JCPSBackpack teams will be at their schools all year providing continued support! If you do not know your school #jcpsbackpack leaders, check out below! #jcpschat
A7: @KyCTEPS is an amazing opportunity. #CTEPSKY changed me as a professional in unexplainable ways. As a coach, I cannot wait to help Ts from @JCPSKY refine their why and make major change. It is a way for teachers to fill THEIR backpack. Please hit me up for info. #JCPSChat
A6: Not really sure what is planned but I know that @HMSPrincipalKO is open for suggestions on PDs that we feel can make positive changes in our school and community. #JCPSChat

A7: I’m not totally sure what there is out these as I am a second year teacher. I do know that you can’t be afraid to ask about opportunities. @jcpsforward is a great resource for new teachers and beneficial PDs of interest. #JCPSChat
A7 Although it's more short term there's always really really great conferences and workshops in the Friday Forward and The Kentucky Teacher!! It's how I got tuned into the work that @KCTE_LA was doing where I have access to a WHOLE community to grow my pratice #jcpschat
@KyCTEPS is one of the main reasons I have connected with so many educators. It is also what led me to developing a middle school transition night & AP info night so my families know their options in JCPS and can ask questions about middle schools, transportation, etc. #JCPSChat
Thanks for joining tonight’s #JCPSChat - next month’s chat will focus on the new @JCPSKY#JCPSBackpack of Skills initiative. See you on September 17 at 8:00 pm EDT!
