We're chatting about using edtech for social good! How can companies and teachers work together to envision a better world?! Chat with Empatico, Jen Williams and more educators!
I think some curriculums are always a work in progress. Once we “print and bind” it, the tech changes and the curriculum needs updating... ;-) #edtech4good
A1 I use student standards as a frame of reference and a guide for lesson & project planning. I use the educator standards in self reflection and in supporting colleagues as a TOSA/coach. #edtech4good
A1: I am currently using the ISTE standard of Creative Communicator in my class through @Seesaw . My kids love presenting their learning my making videos to explain their thinking! #edtech4good
Which is why IMHO there should be more focus on culture and the way ideas gain traction Vs any particular tech (Or learning model for that matter) #EdTech4Good
A1: We are currently using them as a guide to rewrite our tech plan. Using them to help us find gaps when comparing them to survey data from Ss Ps & Ts #Edtech4good
A1: We have school-wide goal setting at where teachers choose a student standard to focus a project or class initiative around. It's been really great. We document meetings and provide evidence for principals to refer to #ISTEStandards#Edtech4good
A1: Teaching students how to use digital tools to help enhance their work with the community. And...learning a thing or two from them in the process. #edtech4good
A1: Working to align them to our technology/features our Ts and Ss will use on our new STEMscopes website. Goal: Seal of Alignment! #ISTEStandards#edtech4good
A2: So many to list! Google Sites, Flipgride, Mystery Skype/Hangouts...When we push our kids to make products for a global audience, we shift their mindset to take more pride in their work and products, as it has potential to be seen by all #edtech4good
A2: Using Skype or Google Hangouts to skype other classes, professionals, or groups of people. Also tweeting about your classroom activities to get input from people from outside the school walls #edtech4good
A1: Moving our teachers away from having students be compliant with technology to be truly engaged and creating. It’s been an adventure this year! #edtech4good
A2: We have Spanish students who speak with a class from Mexico so we can practice Spanish and they can practice English. Split time evenly. #Edtech4good
Hi all!! Kelly Hoenie- Literacy Coach From Hilliard City Schools in Ohio!!
My one goal I have focused on is for teachers and students to reach out beyond the 4 walls of their classrooms! #edtech4good
A2: Using Skype or Google Hangouts to skype other classes, professionals, or groups of people. Also tweeting about your classroom activities to get input from people from outside the school walls #edtech4good
A2: There are so many opportunities for these types of learning experiences. I try to provide awareness and support Ts and Ss along the way #edtech4good
A2: using @EmpaticoOrg and video connections helps build grade level appropriate skills while giving Ss the opportunity to understand others’ perspectives and geographical reality #empathy#edtech4good@eliz_aderholdt
A1: If I am honest, I think I am like an EXAMPLE of the ISTE standards. My #LivBit work shows sooooo much of what is written in them. And I only know that b/c me and my mum are working on something special and she made me read them 😬 So I can say #IamISTE#edtech4good
A2: Sometimes we see this as 'foreign language' or 'foreign country', but connecting with Ss in a rural setting in Mississippi would be foreign for my Ss. #edtech4good
Would love that! Want to DM me some days/times? Or kohnstad@empatico.org. And sorry you've been sick! Hope you are feeling on the mend. Mono is awful. Can't wait to chat! #edtech4good
Hi everyone! Can’t stay, but I wanted to jump in and say hi because some of my favorite orgs. Are together on this one! @iste@participate@empatico#edtech4good
A2: We are trying to Mystery Skype with someone from all 50 states and many countries! Seesaw has been great with connecting classrooms from around the world with each other. I want to use flipgrid to connect next year!
A2) I'm not an educator but here's how my 7 year old son acted locally to connect globally (And his first blog post - with a little/lot of help) "Why I wasn't at School Today" https://t.co/IBpjaX1Ta4#edtech4good
A1: If I am honest, I think I am like an EXAMPLE of the ISTE standards. My #LivBit work shows sooooo much of what is written in them. And I only know that b/c me and my mum are working on something special and she made me read them 😬 So I can say #IamISTE#edtech4good
A2 We recently Connected 6th graders with students from Alaska as an intro to Woodsong and the Iditarod. It was such a great experiences day opportunity #edtech4good
That's really cool. I've been looking at that in the past. We have a face-to-face day of this with our alumn and parents, but connections need to be more often that 1/365 of the year. #edtech4good
A2 #istestandards I’ve been a teacher since 1995 but have skewed more to #edtech4good over the years. Glad to be here! I live in Atlanta. Work at Emory. Reading fanatic. On a mission to transform literacy instruction with power of tech ever since my grad school research.
I think an amazing example of this is @thelivbits new digital book club!! She created a @padlet for students from all over the world to post and comment on! #global#edtech4good
A3: I know this is totally different, but my students LOVED doing empathy challenges on Minecraft. Also 3D printing design challenges on products that will better help our community. #edtech4good
A3 We just did some work with this earlier today! Love how @JCasaTodd pushes us to move from digital citizenship to digital leadership. #edtech4good#socialLEADia
A2: Well considering the fact that my kiddo connects with friends in Europe with an Xbox—we better catch up to speed on ways to connect our classrooms. #edtech4good
A3: building a classroom community through #sel and restorative practices that help prevent conflict and work to find preventative resolutions when conflict does occur #edtech4good
ETSI is our Ed Tech Success Initiative. This year will be our 5th summer of PD to develop #edtech capacity in all our schools. We are starting to move the needle! #edtech4good
A3: My colleagues and I ran a workshop for middle schoolers to help them learn more about etiquette on the internet and how to be responsible and safe while online! It was a huge success and the students were very engaged! #edtech4good
A3: Love @ajjuliani's idea of making PSAs about UN2030 goals! With research & something like Adobe Spark. You could create some great products that expose students to the lack of equity in the world! #edtech4good
A1: I am fortunate to work for a district where they have already aligned the ISTE standards (student and teacher) to our cycle focus calendar. #edtech4good@gisdlearning
Couldn't agree more. It's critical we are making connections across all kinds of lines - cities, states, and countries. Check this out - may be of interest to you. We are looking for teacher leaders! https://t.co/936K2xBAxd#edtech4good
A3 This was true #digcit and connected learning in action. Wouldn't have happened without dedicated educators like @mbfxc@ElliePrimary1 and dedicated students like @CurranCentral. Our school community is better because of this experience with @digcitkids. #edtech4good
Just jumping in. A2: Not sure this is on target: we use App Inventor to create communications apps as the kick off for Doing Good Projects. We base it off a a documentary that highlighted our school. We are a full inclusion campus. #edtech4good
A3: Love @ajjuliani's idea of making PSAs about UN2030 goals! With research & something like Adobe Spark. You could create some great products that expose students to the lack of equity in the world! #edtech4good
A3: My Ss participate in #globalcollaboration projects multiple times a week! They connect with their #digitalpenpals to strengthen their relationships & share their learning with each other! #edtech4good
We have 24,000 students and 36 schools in our district. Even in our 36 schools, there are many different cultures. We don’t even have to leave our own city! #edtech4good
I use #edtech4good with #GoogleDocs- it allows Ss to comment & give constructive, detailed feedback on writing pieces, or in #GoogleClassroom, Ss can give #positive feedback in comment section.
A2: When kids curate information for others they have to determine what is most important. I SUPER love doing that kind of work. Here is another example of a @padlet on #kidsandactivism I made for a Twitter Chat I am doing in May for @ILAToday#edtech4goodhttps://t.co/41phghqKlZ
A3 When Ss are working on #pbl they are connecting w/other Ss and learning abt other cultures, exploring the #SDGs and becoming more aware of real world issues, using @edmodo@Flipgrid to learn more #edtech4good
Another great resource for expanding your PLN is to connect with @isteglobalpln. We have a webinar every month focused on ways to connect globally and the @iste standards. #edtech4good
A3: We must give Ss the ability to create more than just a website, but create plan on how to reach out & help the community. The tech is there to take their plans further - not build their empathy. #Edtech4good
Great way to build community! We do this between districts in 3 different countries and it helps push learning and collaborating beyond the 4 walls. So much potential with #GSuiteEdu. #edtech4good
A3: I love the empathy challenges with @betterworldedu A2: Teach and coach students into connecting with leaders who can provide perspective. #edtech4good
One thing is for teachers to allow the students to create ways to share their learning and give them the opportunity to share their thinking with their peers. Then the most important step - peers giving and receiving feedback to make the learning even better!! #Edtech4good
A4 I teach my Ss about #iste and #ISTEStandards and I have the newer posters from on my walls, in English and in Spanish :) definitely something we learn about in my #STEAM class too #edtech4good
A3: We must give Ss the ability to create more than just a website, but create plan on how to reach out & help the community. The tech is there to take their plans further - not build their empathy. #Edtech4good
A3: Haven't tried this idea. It's very low-tech but has high rewards. Create a #hashtag wall on campus where Ss can write or post a positive note about another student. Spread #positivenoise! #edtech4good
Excellent! Engagement is the key. We've done similar & when ss can share real stories and experiences, other ss often provide advice that is not only helpful, but appropriate. Keep communication open :) #edtech4good.
A4: I think a good place to start would be to integrate it into your own classroom and as it is executed effectively, it will spread! #bethechange#edtech4good
Thanks for taking part in tonight's chat! If you'd like to

A4 #edtech4good This is pretty brass tacks but I should start tagging my lesson plans and student reading presentations with the #istestandards. Tagging protocols would go a long way towards making cross school, cross border collaborations possible.
