When we as educators see a behavior, addressing how the child is feeling first versus addressing the outward behavior demonstrates our concern for the child. It shows the child we care...oh, and by the way weβre still addressing the behavior. #tacklingthe3Ds

Morning, #satchat. I'm Brian. I teach middle-school students English in Colorado. Welcome to December & Computer Science Week. In these parts, the only thing that hasn't dawned yet is dawn!
Good morning, #satchat. I'm a big fan of #CSEdweek and #HourofCod. Former Eng/Journalism teacher from CT (forever a teacher at heart) and now in Ed communications.
Good morning #satchat friends- hard to believe we are, yes, entering Dec! I think of this seasonβs turn as I remember the late President Bush #41 who called for βa kinder, gentler nation and worldβ a mission still in need of fulfillment
A1. Very fortunate that our schools now have a coding class in middle school but we also have a coding club and we will be doing βhour of codeβ activities. #satchat
Iβm honored to share the cover of my new book that I wrote with fellow @ASCD Emerging Leader @mentorEmily titled Tech Request: A Guide for Coaching Educators in the Digital World. Due out in March 2019. Pre sale: https://t.co/B5udGEG3za#Satchat
Happy Saturday! Nice to be able to sleep in a little and start my weekend with #satchat ... Iβm Dennis ... I make some pretty cool memories with kids.

A1 We continue to look for ways to incorporate computer science into our school day. Our teachers do an amazing job creating electives and encouraging student creation every day. We use Chromebooks, but Inventor is a great program our students use in STEM. #satchat#MertonProud
A1: In struggling to come up with an answer I guess I realized that I hope all we would do for an honorary week is embedded in all that we do all the time. #satchat
A1: My team teacher and I are lucky to have a coding mouse, spheros, 3D printers, and training on https://t.co/lnV4rqCEZN to make computer science an everyday reality. Booksnaps will be a new addition for me! #satchat
A1: I didn't even know #CSEdWeek was coming up, actually. But knowing it is, I'll work with our district tech coordinator to push out ideas to teachers and push in to support them. CSUnplugged is one of my favourite resources. #satchat
A1: Using tech to deepen learning is how I'll be supporting #csedweek but not just limiting it to the week. We just finished a cool project where Ss designed animations and games on the digestive system and I was impressed. Continue to provide opportunities #hourofcode#satchat
Great to see #CSEdWeek as a way of elevating thinking logically and analytically - but we need to contextualize that work all year with and without tech #satchat like this collegial work @bsquires416
Excited to have my friend @specialtechie serve as the guest moderator in the arena this morning. I look forward to seeing my fellow #edugladiators at 9 am EST!!!
A1: Love all of the coding sites and definitely google apps. Not in the classroom so I am supporting #CSEDWeek by singing the praises to every T see! Instructional practices and relationships are first, but Ss deserve the opportunities that come with CS! #satchat
A1: In struggling to come up with an answer I guess I realized that I hope all we would do for an honorary week is embedded in all that we do all the time. #satchat

#CSEdWeek I have 5 tech classes and 2 history classes ... it is important for the kids to realize the computers are more than digital typewriters or presentation makers. #satchat
As a parent, I appreciated it when my kids came home happy to share that they coded a simple game during #CSEdWeek each year. Thanks to the ease-of-use @scratch, even my youngest was able to do this. #coding. #satchat@ChrisWeissCT
#CSEdWeek I have 5 tech classes and 2 history classes ... it is important for the kids to realize the computers are more than digital typewriters or presentation makers. #satchat
I agree. Any time Iβm using tech or a program with kids I try to intro with a sound bite the day before. Many students play around with it before its formally introduced and can help me facilitate. #satchat
A1: One thing I did this week as a parent is research toys that boost computational thinking.
I'm looking into the LEGO Boost for my almost-7YO, and these toys also come recommended.
I welcome ideas from others!
#satchat#SantaChathttps://t.co/sq402VBoWr#satchat
I will add that back in the day, I was taught to code using Basic -- tough going! Glad to see today's coding tools for kids are more intuitive and enjoyable. #satchat
A1. As a previous CS teacher, I encourage the tech teachers and librarians to either introduce or work on an assignment during the week on coding. For elementary they do a project using #HourOfCode. #satchat#cs4all#CSedweek
A2: We hope that Ss will learn to communicate, collaborate, and persevere through challenges while participating in CS week. I also think that computational thinking can count as a life skill #satchat
This is a great point: teaching programming is not just about code, itβs also about approach, reach, integration and collaboration. Teachers can include these lessons even if they donβt code themselves. #satchat#mindsetnotminecraft
Q2: The perseverance that comes with problem solving and the pay off of patiently tinkering with several solutions until something clicks. Love trial/error/modification lessons! #satchat
We're lucky. Our LMS has been doing a lot of activities throughout the year. This won't be a single event. Need to get beyond the hour of code. #satchat
We use 21st century digital technology all the time, too. I imagine that #CSEdWeek and #HourofCode are meant to push students to look at the back end of designing and creating. Or is it meant to prod students toward or introduce them to CS fields? #satchat
Yes, teaching #coding is actually helping kids develop a number of interpersonal skills, but also critical thinking, logic, organization and more. #satchat
A2: Our students need the life skill of when posed with a problem or task that it requires:
1. trying
2. failing
3. adapting
4. and solving (success)
As they do this they learn resilence.
#satchat
I believe coding is also a major aspect of critical thing and problem solving skills. Skills that we all know students will need in the present 21st century. #satchat#CSedweek#cs4all
I want kids to have the opportunity to work with the tools of their generation while in my schools. I donβt want school to be the least βrealβ part of their day. #satchat
Has anyone tuned into the #Bitsbox sets? I found them on Amazon... it arrives once a month and has cool STEM/coding activities in it. #satchathttps://t.co/iOqYmBRSkd
A2: Grit and persistence- coding can be frustrating(trial &error alone). But systemic restraints, wifi etc. Design thinking, collaboration, awareness of their own limitations &when and where to seek help, self-regulation. So many skills.. esp with #CSEdWeek#satchat
A2. Skills are essential for student success in any field and with computer science the skills are problem solving, creating, creativity, innovation and communication. #satchat
Skills: creative thinking, critical thinking, close reading, peer review, productive response to feedback/failure, curiosity for application beyond the class discipline and classroom walls. #satchat
I agree, also I feel students need to learn about logical thinking, and leadership skills. The 4C's in addition to the 4P's. Problem solving, problem probing, perseverance, and patience. #satchat#csforall#csedweek
A2 I hope to see students grow in the area of social-emotional learning through collaboration and by thinking about the greater good. I love these stories. https://t.co/JrUmQdS7D7#satchat
A2: When we use tech in meaningful ways we are showing kids new ways of doing things. It allows for collaboration and creativity to flourish in a different environment. Being a part of the digital community tells kids they have a voice. @NewPedagogies#satchat
A2.1
Additional Life Skills acquired through computer science week:
1. Willingness to try new things
2. That there are multiple solutions to an issue
3. Computer Science can be a solo thing or a team experience
4. Computational thinking isn't just for computer classes
#satchat
A2 Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of #CSEdweek is that teachers can provide an enjoyable way to explore and experience #coding and related activities in a supportive classroom environment. For girls, in particular, this is important. #satchat
A2: We are always focused on the power of creating. There is something about encouraging kids to try new things and learning from the process. It grows their capacity as learners and helps to develop "GRIT"!! #satchat
A2 You acquire problem solving skills and develop your ability to think critically when you learn computer science. @The_Tech_Lady#satchat#CSedweek#csed
A2 computational thinking is a process of developing a path from one point to the next through logic and reasoning -I love to see younger students learning to think about that through scratch, ozobots, sphero, makey-makey and thru non-device project work #satchat
Every year I draft a short article to share with families providing some direction for #STEAM, logic, and computational thinking games/toys/apps/books. Here is my current working draft: https://t.co/JvP4C3gWVc#satchat
A2 Key acquisition to which I aspire for my students & me: Computer science is neither as intimidating nor as inscrutable as we might make it out to be. Rather than feeling powerless in front of its black box, we can be empowered by learning its ways as avenues to create #satchat
A2: Logical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, computation... There are so many things that can be developed through computer science! Itβs an opportunity that teachers shouldnβt ignore #satchat
A2: computational thinking + awareness of coding principles are key!
I only took 2 coding courses in college, but they were invaluable when I later worked for Expedia. I was a product mgr working directly w/ developers; it helped to grasp essentials of their work. #satchat
Hm... This gets to a pet issue for me. I assume when you say "no tech" you mean "no 21st century digital technology." After all, even the pencil and paper are examples of tech, right? I prefer to call them "unplugged days." #satchat
Every year I draft a short article to share with families providing some direction for #STEAM, logic, and computational thinking games/toys/apps/books. Here is my current working draft: https://t.co/JvP4C3gWVc#satchat
Agree! Providing an opportunity for all students to both explore coding is great especially diverse students. This is a major need in industry. #satchat
A3 Our technology and Science integrationist, @maryiwanski, does an awesome job with this all year long, not just during CSEDU week. Connect with her and she can tell you more! #satchat#MertonProud
Sorry to pop in late. Leslie from ATL. Iβm so conflicted on this. While I know Ss privilege what happens on their phones and SM as most important to them, is it really what is most real? Can we somehow leverage CS to nurture deep human connection? #satchat
We as educators need to stop holding their hands and let Ss work through their problems independently. I agree, I love seeing Ss expressions when they feel successful. #satchat#csforall
A3 Building and district #edadmin need to create environments where faculty feel comfortable with trying #edtech and letting their students explore learning through technology. Once this is in place examples of what/how to use it and role models in schools can motivate
#satchat
A3: Getting the word out and helping others to see the benefits in their content area/classes. Would you believe that some don't know about CSEDU week? #satchat
I think giving kids the opportunity to code different things ... a robot vs web game is important as some may need to see real movement to understand the working code. #satchat
The thing about #satchat that everyone is missing is that we are on the verge of runaway climate change and we need a complete re-think of the global economy to ensure a just society & avoid planetary catastrophe.
A3: Explain the why. Show how the skills coding fosters are important skills for our students to have, even if computer science isn't their path. #satchat
A3: Encourage Ts for CSEDU week just like with Ss... scaffolding. Co-teach with the one who isn't confident with tech, share a resource or lesson with the teacher getting her feet wet, facilitate the discussion between your high flying techie Ts! #satchat
A3. For our staff, itβs not about 1 week but instead how can we incorporate these types of activities and challenges throughout our day to day instructional practices. Coding and computer science activities need to become the norm. #satchat
A3) As a former building principal, we learned together as a faculty and went through all the #HourOfCode at a staff mtg so that teachers saw the benefits of taking it back to their classrooms for #CSEDWeek . #satchat
A2 by incorporating coding I hope to develop habits of mind incl problem solving, collaboration, communication, creativity, computational thinking & on & on. At the heart of it is the determination embedded in the iterative process & the shift from consumer to creator. #satchat
A3: Model, share, make available!! This year we dedicated 4 morning meetings to what we are calling "15/15 Tech Share Outs!". Staff members sign up to showcase a technology related tool, app or site they are using in their classrooms. 15 minutes on each topic. #satchat
A2. I was thrown out of coding class when i was at school, but the brief introduction helped me become a programmer when I graduated, before becoming involved in education #satchat
A3: As a high school Spanish teacher, I can allow my students to attempt something that I don't even know how to do. We will all learn together! #satchat
I think that today's students have deeper connections with far more people than older generations realise. They use their modern technology to connect far and wide and share so much more than I was ever able to do when I was in school. #satchat
"Is your school better because you lead it?" To answer this question, you must establish your leadership identity, mission, purpose, & vision. @PrincipalKafele#satchathttps://t.co/MAFiMlswaa
A3: For me, it isnβt about the week. I look for opportunities to have authentic dialogue with teachers. Pushing an agenda doesnβt work. I want lasting impact through a change of mindset. Quality practices grow out of real conversations #satchat
Life skills ... lots of them but we also need to get the kids to understand the skills they are learning in the classroom are real skills ... programming a robot to going in a square is cool but gets boring quick if that is the only thing you do. #satchat
The State of New Jersey provides this free webinar and you can watch to learn more about multisensory instruction and structured literacy.
https://t.co/JuMoiX6p64https://t.co/JuMoiX6p64
A3: Ask them to visit you in class. Share a project idea with them. Share results of Student surveys from your projects. Collaborate on an interdisciplinary project with a colleague. #CSEdWeek#satchat
A3: For me, its always challenging getting other Ts on board. Some feel they don't have the skills to support it. I encourage them & once they realize the Ss thrive on #CSforAll, they immediately support #CompSci. It's just taking the initial leap that is scary for them. #satchat
A3 Providing support helping Ts find time, planning and putting their #CSedweek plans into action. Itβs also super important to let Ts know itβs ok if an activity flops! They shouldnβt be afraid to try s/thing new! #satchat@The_Tech_Lady#CSeduWeek#csed
I was a tech integration guru, I also advocated for unplugging as a way for students to come up with solutions to challenges without their default reaction of Googling it. Kind of like having recess without a kickball: when given the chance, creativity kicks in! #satchat
A2: Hope that my children will have a better sense of their devices and online interactions rather than merely looking at these tools as entertainment tools. #satchat
A3: Encourage Ts for CSEDU week just like with Ss... scaffolding. Co-teach with the one who isn't confident with tech, share a resource or lesson with the teacher getting her feet wet, facilitate the discussion between your high flying techie Ts! #satchat
A4: CS has a lot of cross-curricular benefits for students. It provides an opportunity for students to learn computational thinking in an authentic way. It can also be a great way to learn from failure which is applicable everywhere #satchat
A4: CS skills are problem solving skills - CS lessons prepare Ss for all the jobs that don't exist yet! When you build lessons with CS, you're building lifelong skills. #satchat
Seems like we would need to be intentional though. It can be both but often isnβt without some thought put in to privilege how CS or anything we teach serves human needs/purposes. #satchat
A4: Not sure if this qualifies, but students use Chromebooks 2 play review games to help them learn and remember material. @quizlet. @quizizz@GetKahoot and @gimkit They also submit video quiz recordings on @Flipgrid. #satchat
I think that today's students have deeper connections with far more people than older generations realise. They use their modern technology to connect far and wide and share so much more than I was ever able to do when I was in school. #satchat
Tech share-outs would work for me, as I'm a hands-on learner when it comes to tech. I once did a week-long website building workshop with fellow teachers - we were so focused, we spent longs stretches in companionable silence and then broke out into intense sharing. #satchat
A4. Learning must be authentic, rigorous and have relevance for students to truly learn skills and content at deep levels. This pic is example of sunglasses students created with digital programming as part of math Design Challenge involving fractions. #satchat
Letβs be honest most Science, Math, English, SS teachers are not going to shut down their curriculum for a week for the kids to code ... and therein lies the problem #satchat where do the kids get the exposure?
Yes, absolutely agree. In my journalism and broadcast courses, I had students leapfrog past me with photo editing, layout software & non-linear video editing. They would just figure it out and, ultimately, train each other. #satchat
I think the trick is in the degree of connection. So maybe Iβve brought us down a rabbit hole that distracts but your initial post of βwhy do anything diff than we always are doingβ got me thinking about the msgs these weeks might perpetuate. Both + and -. #satchat
In reply to
@MCUSDSupe, @dmvelliaris, @alextvalencic
I'm going with: It qualifies. Next level, perhaps: Having students use branching logic to create their own review games, whether via the platforms you list; or digital documents, slides, or forms; or block-coding platforms. #satchat
A4: Not sure if this qualifies, but students use Chromebooks 2 play review games to help them learn and remember material. @quizlet. @quizizz@GetKahoot and @gimkit They also submit video quiz recordings on @Flipgrid. #satchat
I like the tech share-outs. Can you explain more about that? I find getting other Ts on board is challenging, not even to support #csforall, but just to use and push tech into their lessons. #satchat
A4: This is their world! Great teachers have always found ways to integrate the "current" tools into their lessons. CS is no different. When I was a T, my students made dioramas, now they can blog, make a movie, SeeSaw, or Tweet about their book!! #satchat
A5: I hope to use this week as a push so that my student, especially beginners, can see how code and language are related in syntax, logic and creative expression. #satchat
A4:Computer science allows me to differentiate allows students to work at your own pace which is really the heart of personalized was learning and it also allows me to provideEquity and access for all Ss #udl#satchat
A2 #CSEdWeek offers embedded PD opps for Ts to safely explore how to integrate coding into other content areas and build their own life skills in learning something new βhow is poetry and coding alike? Diff? In what ways is building a history trend line like coding? #satchat
A4 Computer Science can provide another way for Ss to learn and share what theyβve learned. Itβs a different type of scaffold for those Ss who do better using tech. Allows Ss to operate in their learning zone! #satchat#CSeduWeek#csed@The_Tech_Lady
#HourOfCode is a great idea & a good start...but every job out there is adding #coding skills, so we need our kids to #CodeAllYear
Otherwise coding is just another "silo" in education!
#satchat
Letβs be honest most Science, Math, English, SS teachers are not going to shut down their curriculum for a week for the kids to code ... and therein lies the problem #satchat where do the kids get the exposure?
We are surrounded by modern technology and we use our modern technology all the time. I fear our schools will become less and less real and less relevant to students if we continue to try to keep things the same way they were 100, 50, or even 10 years ago. #satchat
In reply to
@MCUSDSupe, @dmvelliaris, @hazlebussey
And that scope and sequence prevents this exploration ... finding that cross-curricula connection is tough ... reading about coding is not the same as coding #satchat
There is a lot of each one teach one in journalism and broadcast news. Heck, I learned to edit audio tape with a razor blade and tape from a radio colleague. #satchat
@The_Tech_Lady Keep it simple!! Empower your innovators, encourage your early adopters and support those that think they can't. It takes time, be relentless!! It is worth it!! #satchat
I like the tech share-outs. Can you explain more about that? I find getting other Ts on board is challenging, not even to support #csforall, but just to use and push tech into their lessons. #satchat
A5: We are looking to integrate and expand our CS offerings in all of our grade levels. It is definitely an area where we can expand on some of our success #satchat
You've put your finger on either/or problem, Dennis. Instead of CS Ed Week necessitating curricular shut-down, what if persuasive both/and case can be made that coding principles offer lens for looking at or vehicle for navigating content-specific learning goals? #satchat
A5: I hope to use this week as a push so that my student, especially beginners, can see how code and language are related in syntax, logic and creative expression. #satchat
Every skill set starts in a silo ... you learn to kick the ball before you learn to play soccer ... learn to code before you can apply it to other academic disciplines #satchat
A3 My class Just got C-books this year. Wonder if we could team up with littles w/o to try Hour of Code? How would we organize that? I'm still learning how to use the C-book myself. #satchat#csforall
Teachers shouldn't be preparing students for "jobs" either... because jobs change!
Give kids opportunities to become creative problem solvers & they'll be ready for anything! #satchat
A5. I'm finding in legal tech that many recovering lawyers are converting to coders because the analytical mindset is key to both. Therefore, helping youth connect that coding isn't just coding but good problem solving, analytical mindset and collaboration. #satchat
Yes. That's why it's so important to celebrate this week. Many do not understand how far coding reaches and how it is incorporated in our daily lives. #satchat
A2: Provide opportunities for teachers to learn about Computational Thinking (CT), where it already exists in their work with students, and ways they can enhance lessons by intentionally embedding CT into their instruction. #satchat
A3: Got a jump start on #hourofcode this week w/ teachers w/ @codewithroot more activities next week! Ts and Ss very engaged! Also trying to model a twitter chat on the topic to share resources & ideas @pclarkcodes#satchat
I think besides the basic read, write and articulate. It's being able to use scientific method, data, feedback, problem solving, teamwork - all needed no matter what the occupation. #satchat
Teachers shouldn't be preparing students for "jobs" either... because jobs change!
Give kids opportunities to become creative problem solvers & they'll be ready for anything! #satchat
So true Dennis - curriculum is in many areas so crowded with kitchen sink content that thereβs no time to do much but cover it as fast as it can be done - a slow curriculum would allow more interdisciplinary, integrated, connected work #satchat
Totally agree. It is there future and as educator we have to assist them to develop both the emotional and skills sets they will need for a informational, technology rich environments they will face in the 21st century. #satchat
A5. Computer science skills need to be part of teaching and learning day to day - we need to ask ourselves if our instruction is more like βa time machine preparing for future or a time capsule which means stuck in the padtβ? #satchat
Iβm not sure Dennis is saying he agrees with it; he seems to be identifying the inherent problem with the concept. There is a design flaw here. How do we overcome it? #satchat
Language evolves. "Goodbye" came about when someone took "God be with ye" and wrote "god b w y" instead. I value language conventions, but I value the message of the communication more. #satchat

I think something that has been removed from my system is the βtechnology classβ that was part of very kidβ middle school day ... this tech class integrated with the others and created opportunity for the kids #satchat
A5 We should definitely continue to teach the skills enhanced through computer science such as problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity. #satchat@The_Tech_Lady#CSedweek
One way to implement this is the English classroom is looking at logos, pathos, ethos. Computer coding is very logos. Kids need to be prepared to engage in logos. How are we prepping them? #satchat
I figure "The Veldt" is what happens when people of different ages *aren't* talking together about technology's influence (or any influence that's leaning on their lives), but rather pecking away in their own bubbles, stewing sometimes resentfully as conflicts brew. #satchat
In reply to
@dmvelliaris, @alextvalencic, @MCUSDSupe, @hazlebussey
Glad to see my high schoolers have tech classes which includes working through statistics pivot tables as well as basic programming a web page. All important skills. #satchat
#SaturdayMorning#satchat
So the conclusion is conservatives don't play down to us because they can't be bothered but woke white liberals do because they think black people are too stupid.
If you are white and shocked, its because you are racist.
https://t.co/S19i2mqFNf
A3: Presenting the information to a teacher who isn't so tech savvy in an approachable way. Too many people feel intimidated by CS and introducing it as a convenient tool is much easier than as an entirely new set of concepts about teaching. #satchat
One new way to combine #coding & #art is the @codewithroot robot. It can draw on horizontal or vertical surfaces, interacts with the drawings, & is completely fun! #pd4uandme
I'm just trying to get my district to today; that's why I am the coordinator of 21st century teaching & learning and not the 19th, 20th, or 22nd. I'll start looking to the future once teachers default delivery method isn't lecture and their default tool isn't a worksheet #satchat
In reply to
@dmvelliaris, @MCUSDSupe, @hazlebussey
A5: The deliberate and intentional use of authentic technology is probably as close as I am going to get in my English class, plus letting Ss read whatever interests them (computer science) or otherwise. #satchat
Exactly. One of the major learning skills that Ss need to know. Failing is not a bad thing. It just means it did not work as this is an opportunity to readjust and try again. Coding provides this opportunity. #satchat
Admire and appreciate the challenge of our teachers meeting the challenge of being life long learner themselves in order to impart and more often guide learning in new areas such as CS. #satchat
A3: Presenting the information to a teacher who isn't so tech savvy in an approachable way. Too many people feel intimidated by CS and introducing it as a convenient tool is much easier than as an entirely new set of concepts about teaching. #satchat
I donβt have an answer that is a viable Spanish/CS integration ... at least from a starting point perspective ... if students already have a CS background maybe understanding how or making a virtual translator. #satchat
Iβm for all kids getting opps to experience coding as a path that develops logical, analytical, reasoning thinking - it doesnβt always require devices but they do help kids make cause and effect sense in the context of coding tools such as scratch #satchat
#ThoughtForTheDay As principals, if we are going to expect teachers to create an experience for students in the classroom for kids that get them excited about learning & wanting to come back for more, then we must do the same in our faculty meetings for staff...via #Culturize
We also live in a time where many teachers have detailed schedules pushed down on them by district ... you will be here in this day ... no exceptions #satchat
I've often thought of why we talk about learning from our failures BUT we don't have a specific class or assembly on dealing with failure. After all its a part of life and something we often forget as toddlers who learned to walk by failing over and over again #satchat
Also, if Ss see teachers struggling through a problem and thinking out loud, I think it normalizes the problem solving process and it humanizes Ts. #satchat#csforall#LeadbyExample#mindset

A5: Wherever it is relevant it is important to keep CS in the curriculum. It engages the students and often meets them where they are passionate. Whether we incorporate it or not, CS is only growing as an important skill and it is foolish not to prepare our students. #satchat
More an more, #data is part of everything...medicine, agriculture, even politics! Our kids need practice interacting with real numbers (especially with #coding)
#satchat
@The_Tech_Lady I used formal staff meeting time, so I guess it was mandatory, but I like to think the majority of staff would attend even if it wasn't. Wishful thinking?? #satchat
So how would you rate the quality of digital technology integration in your school? Has it been too much too quickly without enough intentionality? #satchat
In reply to
@dmvelliaris, @MCUSDSupe, @hazlebussey
A5: We need look for more way to encourage exploration of CS & connections to curriculum along with other important electives in business financial literacy, STEM connecting to realworld opportunities to help make the connections #satchat
That tech class was complementary to the others ... it was like the digital component to learning but it gave kids time to explore technology as a whole and coding specifically #satchat
Something Iβm chewing on is connecting the dots and skills that help a student learn Spanish, and how that would help learn a different language like python. Itβs very similar. #satchat

There is no need for teachers to shut down their curriculum. They just need to incorporate it within the lesson. Using a timeline, using algorithms, a haiku, etc can all be incorporated and are coding type lessons. #satchat
And yet we are using many of those tools right now to have this conversation with each other. It seems to me that the technology isn't problem, it is the lack of teaching how to use it and use it well. #satchat

Yes, yes, yes! Been there done that myself many times. Collaboration works. When I code having a second pair of eyes looking for the error helps! #satchat
