Meredith joining #teachnvchat from beautiful SW Florida. Thrilled that I stayed awake! I figure if @BDicksonNV can rise and shine for a Saturday morning chat at 6:00 AM his time, I can stay awake a 'ittle later!
R1: I feel that it gives an accurate snapshot of what is going on in my classroom. There is little room for subjective thinking with the indicators being observed. #teachNVchat
@SaraHolm15 here is the info for this Saturday's chat. Having @casas_jimmy as the guest author of this amazing book is going to be outstanding! #teachnvchat
A1 I appreciate the fact our evaluation system has specific expectations for each standard and indicator. Every lesson should have each part of our evaluation system. It is the âhow.â #teachnvchat
A1. Itâs seen as an opportunity for growth. The success criteria ( youâll be hearing a lot of that from me) is included in the rubric. In many cases an observation is a conversation between two professionals, to deepen each otherâs thoughts around instruction. #teachnvchat
I'm not sure about our current eval system, which is why I wanted @LeeWaterhouse to join in tonight. I guess a positive is that we have a lot of autonomy ... #teachnvchat
R1: my school is looking at @MarzanoResearch for walkthroughs. Finding that there is a lot of subjective thought there. What one person sees, another might not. Our #RISE program has clear expectations. It also allows for room for me to grow. #teachNVchat
#teachnvchat, a1, thereâs a lot of language in our tool based on student engagement & taking initiative in learning. Both great for students academic & behavior growth and taking some of the the pressure off of teacher to lead and putting it on student to have to lead learning.
oh you have @allysonapsey coming up! She's such an inspiration. So it's a book each week? I will definitely try to join y'all this summer. #teachnvchat
I agree! having the indicators is a huge benefit-as an evaluator it allows me to have coaching conversations about how to help people get better-know the goal before hand #teachNVchat
A1. I believe this is the best system for gaining feedback as an educator. This one is outside the principal's door. Feedback that causes an immediate change is a good thing. #teachnvchat
A1. I bet I worked with six different committees of educators on adjusting or developing a new evaluation system. ::tossing hands into the air::: How much has all of that work caused any changes? #Teachnvchat
R5: Iâm supposed to be observed 5 times a year. When I was the evaluator, I did 25 teacher observations X 5. Didnât matter how many years experience My Ts had. #teachNVchat
A2: From the administrative side of it, there is already enough going on, let alone having to spend 4-6 hours writing each teacher's eval, there has to be a way to properly assess and give feedback without that kind of time commitment #teachnvchat
It is not evaluative as I am the kindergarten teacher but I have really loved spending time in my colleague's classrooms this year. Come to think of it, I should get back to it. I try to leave little notes of what I loved seeing or a question I thought of #teachnvchat
A2 I donât think it needs changes. believe schools need to continue to do PD to ensure Ta understand the high expectations. I also appreciate what the Dep. Of Ed. and what RPDP have done to support our understanding. #teachnvchat
I love the way you express yourself during chats. It is like I am sitting beside you, listening to you explain something. So interesting ... #teachnvchat
true it takes time-why its important to start early and have more than one observation to draw from-no one should be judged on a one-time observation #teachNVchat
The evaluation should be based on what happens from day 1 until day 180 we grow through the year and get better through coaching conversations #teachNVchat
I have a great spreadsheet with standards and indicators that I used when I was in admin, got it from an amazing principal, @KerryPopeCCSD, saved tons of time! I will show you sometime! #teachnvchat
#TeachNVchat, a2, the word all that is used in our rubric is a intimidating, anyone who has spend the day with 20-30+ students in a class knows that finding a strategy that works for everyone is difficult.
I remember @principalpaul, I'm pretty sure, telling #leadupchat that he leaves feedback on @voxer. If T didn't have voxer, he could email it to them. I love it b/c it's immediate. #teachnvchat
In reply to
@AndersonEdTech, @PrincipalPaul, @voxer
Maybe schools need to revamp their student presentations too! Narrative memos have replaced PowerPoint presentations at Amazon. Here are three reasons why. https://t.co/iRv4dTxpg1
Each state is SO different in teacher evaluation processes. Two years ago I had to complete a document, with examples, for each Admin Standard. It was almost 100 pages long. #teachnvchat
Ayaiyai! It's very stream of consciousness. Chats used to stress me out but @bdicksonnv helped me relax into learning from you all the whole time. That has really helped me not be intimidated by #eduheroes like yourself #teachnvchat
A3: More observation in person, even participating in the learning. What better way to know if the teaching is effective than learning yourself. Bonus: authentic modeling w/ students. #TeachNVchat
In Nevada I had a three ring binder with examples for each Standard. Quickly I found out the two inch binder wasn't going to be thick enough ... ended up with the 5 inch binder and not sure anyone looked at it. #teachnvchat
R3: is there really an ideal tool? I honestly want someone to tell me what they think I do well. Give me a suggestion on what I need to do better. The best obs I have done were ones where I walked into a class of a diff subject level T and gave input. #teachNVchat
How I would have LOVED getting immediate feedback after talking with a parent, student or teacher using @ObserveMe and worked toward improving it with a critical friend. #Teachnvchat
R3 (cont): I also found different things I could use in my class. I love(d) going into music classes. Could see tools for classroom management. Engagement. Thatâs an obs for me. #teachNVchat
#TeachNVchat, a3 I wish I could visit classrooms with a group of teachers and work on effective strategies, (strengths) and something to work on, we all need to shine and we all have room to grow.
You get observed at least once during the 3 years. Then at end of the 3 years you have a final meeting where you get a new score. Itâs awkward for me because I am not a classroom teacher and the standards are not perfect #teachNVchat
One year our school modeled a walk-through model like you're talking about ... I don't think it went anywhere after that. I could find info about it if you're interested? #Teachnvchat

I would love for my colleagues to come and join in the kindergarten fun whenever they wanted and leave me some feedback. Then to work with them throughout the year to improve on areas we both see as rooms to grow #teachnvchathttps://t.co/XhCLS1xee9
