#worldgeochat is a weekly chat focused on teaching geography and global studies. Chats vary between geography specific topics as well as general teaching and education topics. ALL are welcome in worldgeochat!
Hi everyone, Ed, 7th grade world geography teacher in the suburbs of Chicago. Excited to learn of new PD ideas I can take back and use with my social studies department. #worldgeochat
Hey everyone! Kayla from #Raleigh currently teaching #APUSH and #AmericanHistory2. We are in the middle of exams and a have the day off tomorrow due to weather so I can stay up a little later haha #worldgeochat
Nice! Where are you from, Ed? We've had a ton of delays and dismissals with no snow days yet. Wondering if this one is going to come up empty! Been an exciting winter so far! #worldgeochat
I know we are supposed to get snow. Our super will let us know by 5:15 am! I'm torn, part of me loves the idea of a snow day, the other part of me wants my summer on time. #worldgeochat
uhhhh...... I don't know what the ground looks like. We had an ice dam break on the Kennebec River two days ago and flooded the town. 20 cars submerged now encased in ice. #worldgeochat
A couple of #worldgeochat reminders for tonight --
1. Please use the A1, A2 format
2. Be respectful and professional
3. Follow all your fellow #worldgeochat'ters

Hi, friends! Mary-Owen from #growMaury in Tennessee. 7th grade world history teacher and one of the #sschat crew. Currently have a few inches of snow and sharing my electric blanket with #BooRadley! #worldgeochat
A couple of #worldgeochat reminders for tonight --

A1 Cheesy alert: I would LOVE a World Geo Chat National conference with all of you. Heck, let’s make it international and go to somewhere amazing. Helsinki? Barcelona? Milan? #worldgeochat
a1: an in-person #PLN gathering from all my @Twitter chats. each of us putting on our own presentations back to back so we don't miss anything #worldgeochat
Something that is differentiated (not necessarily personalized), engaging, uses tech (or no tech) effectively, makes me grow and stretches me #worldgeochat
A1 Oddly enough, best PD experiences tend to be in hotel lobbies and coffee shops with super intelligent people. Most often starts with “wouldn’t be cool if…” #worldgeochat

A1
Dream PD!
I've been lucky enough to do it twice. Travel to other countries & meet Ts & Ss so that I have something REAL to share with my own Ss! There is SO MUCH we can learn from ppl around the world! #worldgeochat
A1: My DREAM PD would be a year of travel, exploring new classrooms, experiences, etc. I want to see how some of my classroom wishes (#gamification, #PBL, etc) ACTUALLY work in a classroom #worldgeochat
A1 - A dream professional development opportunity would be one for which I was asked "what do you need?" before the decisions of topic, format and speakers were decided. #worldgeochat
I lived it in 1976. An incredible session at California Council for the Social Studies conference led by Ron Sima. Then there was another CCSS meeting a few years ago, where several Dreamers spoke, then broke us into smaller discussion groups led by one each. #worldgeochat
A1. Personalized and relevant! Choice and voice of all those invested! Singing the praises of all my #4ocf book study peeps. @RACzyz has some amazing ideas in his book! #worldgeochat
Jumping into #worldgeochat late! A1 dream PD: in school any teacher driven PD outside any adventure learning experience where Ts are treated as professionals & respected!
A1: My dream PD is a hands on session where it is hands on and I can implement something I see/learned about right away. I love the idea of the un-conference model where you make the agenda and everyone learns from everyone. #worldgeochat
A1: Dream PD would definitely involve travel. Had the privilege to study abroad during Grad school and was teaching online at the time. Learned so much. Ss were learning about Europe while I was there. Blogged during the whole trip. Ss loved it #worldgeochat
A1 I’d love a pd experience where I get hands on experience with apps & programs that allow Ss to interact w the material more. Taught by Ira Glass (a girl can dream, right?) #worldgeochat
The same type of learning experience that I hope (and strive) for my students. One that lets me follow my wonderings and deepen understandings with friends who share those ?’s. #worldgeochat
A1 #worldgeochat
1. Something I asked to work on
2. My team from other disciplines collaborating w/me to integrate ____PD into unit
3. Actionable this week
4. No ice breaker-games to start things off
5. Let me play with the tech & ask Qs as I go
6. Scotch
A1 I wish you could get PD credit for alternative methods of PD such as Twitter chats, listening to podcasts, reading blogs and PD books, etc.. #worldgeochat
A1: One where I get to go amazing places, for not too much money, and meet experts in their field to show how I can make Geography even more relevant to S's. Sign me up for Hawaii: Tsunami Warning Center tour, and helicopter tour over Volcanoes w/vulcanologist? #worldgeochat
Active, but not so much that my introverted self has to play mixer games. Useable ASAP. Social studies-specific. Full of my #sschat and #worldgeochat friends.
so important to have PD be relevant & ACTIONABLE the moment we leave the session.
If I had a nickel for every time I left a PD session shaking my head saying "I'm never going to use this..." #worldgeochat
Love that word: CONCISE. How many times could THAT PD have been done in 10% of the time with 10x the effectiveness by teachers applying it!??! Must be engaging! #worldgeochat
Caitlan from MA, 7th grade. A1 purposeful & meaningful. Something that challenges your ideas & perspective. Relevant info that T can bring back to classroom & directly impact Ss. And some treats never hurt! #worldgeochat
I haven't done much traveling, as I am 26, so my #OneWord2018 is adventure. I'm making a big roadtrip out of my ISTE trip this summer. Those with rich experiences have much to share. Aren't those the best SS teachers??? #worldgeochat
I found it to be very underwhelming. This could be the 1 case the book is better than the movie as the trailer for the film looks awesome. #worldgeochat
A1 my family & friends will tell you every time I leave the house is PD - ha! Always thinking how I use what I see read do in the classroom #worldgeochat
I suppose. I'm not fully aware of EdCamp setup, but just having mutiple choices for teachers isn't enough. I want the agendas and topics driven by teacher need and input at the front end too. #worldgeochat
Caitlan! Welcome! I love that you have the #EarthView Globe in your profile picture. They're coming to our school on Thursday evening and Friday during the day #worldgeochat
Road trips are the best! Our family is going to Glacier, Yellowstone, & the Badlands this summer! The family truckster is getting a workout! #worldgeochat
Road trips are the best! Our family is going to Glacier, Yellowstone, & the Badlands this summer! The family truckster is getting a workout! #worldgeochat
That's how every edcamp I've been to works. The first 30 minutes is setting the agenda based on who is in the room and what they want to learn about. #worldgeochat
Same here, but I've been planning my day hoping to stay up for both these chats! Kind of hoping for a 2 our delay tomorrow.
UPDATE: Snow has begun!
#worldgeochat
I’m going to Glacier and Yellowstone this summer too! Sadly not enough time to road trip whole way. But driving in between both the parks. When are you going? #worldgeochat
A2 #TLAP and Why Geography Matters have both been really good for me. Currently working on Ditch That Textbook. They have all affirmed my best practices and made me rethink my weaknesses to bring about more student centered learning. #worldgeochat.
Same here, but I've been planning my day hoping to stay up for both these chats! Kind of hoping for a 2 our delay tomorrow.

#worldgeochat
When I run a Google Earth PD session for a district, this FIRST thing I do is say,
"Open Google Earth. You have 20-30 minutes to play. We will come back to share questions & discoveries as to how it fits with what you're doing in class" #worldgeochat
Hah! Wow, real on-the-spot reflexive PD. Okay that sounds like swinging the pendulum a little bit too far in the opposite direction for my personality! Maybe a happy medium? :) #worldgeochat
A2 Well, they are not within the past two years, but 2 books that probably shaped me most as a young teacher were Jeffrey Schrank's Teaching Human Beings, and his Deception Detection: An Educator's Guide to the Art of Insight. #worldgeochat
A2: A number of the #tlap books but my favorite is #ShiftThis, can be applied to any subject and gets to the true meaning of teaching today #worldgeochat
I think you'd be pretty impressed by a well organized EdCamp. I've been to two so far, and they have been THE BEST in person PD experiences I gave had in 5 years. Give them a shot! There is something to be said with CHOICE! Higher engagement! #worldgeochat
A2: The Innovators Mindset by @gcouros. It really made me realize the importance of being student focused allowing students to take charge of their learning experience. Also @brookhouser 20Time Project is amazing #worldgeochat
A2: Innovator's Mindset by @gcouros We don't always have to keep doing what we're doing & a huge key to leaders & innovation "Relationships, Relationship, Relationships" Be Present!!!! 1/2 way through @joboaler's Mathematical Mindset --pushing my beliefs further #worldgeochat
A2. https://t.co/UsuJFfPjAr. This book is great for strategies and tools for incorporating evidence based writing. Can work for any social studies topics. #worldgeochat
A2: I agree about Teach Like a Pirate. I'm a fairly newer teacher, and I don't feel that I really began loving until I read this book. Explore Like a Pirate is my close second: having fun in a classroom? Sign me up! #worldgeochat#tlap#XPLAP
As a teacher though, you have to be aware of how to leverage that 'play' into a coherent objective. Getting teachers started by being their own students gives them a touchpoint to build around. #worldgeochat
In reply to
@CoachHenkel, @coreythornblad, @MsTurner1027
"Where is the wonder?" Something teachers should always ask and have in mind when planning a lesson. Without wonder, real learning isn't happening. #worldgeochat
A2 not recent but @LAEPpd (1st year of teaching) which introduced me to Humanitas interdisciplinary teaching changed my whole teaching philosophy as well as @facinghistory#worldgeochat
A2 Can't think of a book but I have taken numerous courses. @TuftsECT has changed my practice by giving me the pedagogy for what I'm doing. #worldgeochat
A2 - Making Thinking Visible is the book that has most impacted my teaching. I think about and refer to it whether teaching students or adults. #worldgeochat
Slow Looking by Tishman - slowing down and really looking carefully is powerful in every discipline and educational opportunity https://t.co/ikf9cPAPvS#worldgeochat
A: My favorite PD books are Rebooting Social Studies, The New Teacher Revolution, Teach Like A Pirate, Play Like A Pirate, heck all the Dave Burgess publishing books, and anything written by Kelly Gallagher! #worldgeochat
A2 Not necessarily PD/geo related, but super impactful (and served as great reference point during the current event segment of class): Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Also had the pleasure of hearing him speak at NCSS’16. Recommend both book & his TedTalk. #worldgeochat
A2 - It's been out for years now but I always come back to #DRIVE by @DanielPink as one of the best PD books for teachers. Really shifted my thoughts on motivation and what drives students to meaningfully engage and produce. (New book #WHEN is good so far too!) #worldgeochat
A2. Each of these have had their own impacts: Blended Learning in Action: Actionable integration of tech w/ sound pedagogy.Teach Like a Pirate - LIT A FIRE! Currently Reading Four O Clock Faculty, which had my psyched for this chat tonight! All about rogue PD! #worldgeochat
A2: I read Teach Like a Pirate #tlap this September. It's been great- I need to buy it not just borrow it from the library. @cheffernan75 has added Play like a pirate to my reading list. I am looking for some other good suggestions! #worldgeochat
A2: Explore Like a Pirate #xplap by @mrmatera. After seeing Matera present, I bought his book and gamified my classes. I have never seen higher student engagement and so much FUN in the classroom! #worldgeochat
A2: Innovator’s Mindset has helped me refocus on students and their passions and abilities. It has also been great for planning PD for Ts #worldgeochat
Creating Cultures of Thinking by @RonRitchhart has highlighted areas of my practice for continued examination and growth: they way I use language, routines we use for thinking, how I value time... I’m still a learner too! #worldgeochat
A3 Worst PD experiences did not make my classroom better and wasted time that I wanted to invest in my students. No strategy learned, no data used, no content enriched. #worldgeochat
No - it's not a Dave Burgess book, it is all the things that we know we *should* do in social studies, but better. It's a great book for new Ts and a nice review for veterans! #worldgeochat
In reply to
@MrGuglielmi, @jedikermit, @JoyKirr, @mrgregmilo
A2b: Professional development and personal development required reading is also EVICTED: POVERTY AND PROFIT IN THE AMERICAN CITY by Matthew Desmond. #worldgeochat
A3 Easily my worst PD experience was the SS dept meeting which was supposed to be for PD, but which focused exclusively on pay and benefits issues. #worldgeochat
A3 I had a Google Earth training that was almost entirely sandbox time. I had no idea what Google Earth was or how to navigate it. I muddled through during that time and then didn’t use it again until last year’s relaunch. #worldgeochat
Don't miss out on the pitchfork fondue at Teddy Roosevelt National Park. The musical is also pretty spectacular. ... and you can't beat Yellowstone. #worldgeochat
A3 a coaching PD where we were constantly put on the spot. Learning new material isn't comfortable for us or our students so no bueno for me. #worldgeochat
A3 any mandated PD targeted at a few (how to take roll) but holds whole faculty hostage, or engaging classroom PD in which presenter lectures "no engagement" I could go on #worldgeochat
A3 Making assumptions about what Ts know/do and don’t. Failing to connect with Ts & Ss experiences. Lectured at with no engagement or concrete takeaway. #worldgeochat
I literally have 6 books in queue for personal development. Struggling with wanting those and ones specific for teaching too! Must read all the things. #worldgeochat
a3: teaching MD at a former school, I had to sit through a handwriting PD for pre-k and 1st grade teachers b/c "that is all they had for me" #worldgeochat
A3: Not specifically, but a great assessment I heard from someone today. After an hour, if I can't remember one thing we did, or if I'm still not buzzing and mindracing over the session. Probably a strikeout! #worldgeochat
Or we can be direct... @burgessdave, would you like to how a future #worldgeochat on bringing passion into geography (and all the other social sciences)?
In reply to
@mr_middle_2, @MrsDevlinSS, @burgessdave, @burgessdave
A3- The worst PD is when the format does not match the needs of the message or delivery. For example, sage on the stage lecture without opportunity for teacher digestion or questions. Lack of hands-on opportunities to engage with the material, tech, or one another. #worldgeochat
PD is challenging for me if it’s all “sit and get” style. I need to move and interact and handle materials. I might still be a kindergartener! #worldgeochat
A3 When was HS teacher, worst PD experiences were often the ones that my high school &/or district would do put together w/o teacher input #worldgeochat
A3: Anything that is straight up lectures. Give me tools, give me experiences, give me something to recall and hold on to! I need to see how what you're saying and describing is applicable and doable, not just jargon #worldgeochat
A3 #worldgeochat
A mandatory district wide 'collaboration' effort. It was a forced collaboration that tried to use SMART goals and tie them into teacher observations. Awful. Being told what collaboration was and how to do it?!?!?! Are you kidding me?
A3: If it isn't applicable and if I am not given time to process, discuss, collaborate and own it -- then it's not time well spent. And let's face it; in this job - TIME IS EVERYTHING #worldgeochat
A3 Anything to do with behavior, including changing mindset (I'll teach any mind) or low-level test prep. Just not where I want to be, or go, professionally. #worldgeochat
A3: Lectures about info that I know well is a waste of time... I have been passionate about technology since I was in grade school, and attending PD about the basics of Google wasn't the best use of my time... I would've preferred to learn something new. #worldgeochat
A3
Worst PD...
when there is someone presenting who clearly doesn't understand the content they are presenting on. Seen that too many times in my career!
#worldgeochat
A3 worse for me was when the admin told all the SS Ts that we would all be meeting together for n afternoon. Asked dept chairs to figure out what we would do. When we got there, we got chewed out for not having an agenda. Hello. If you want PD, give us directions. #worldgeochat
A3: If it isn't applicable and if I am not given time to process, discuss, collaborate and own it -- then it's not time well spent. And let's face it; in this job - TIME IS EVERYTHING #worldgeochat
A3: The worst PD experience was when a consultant was hired to come in and help us learn new strategies to use technology but never asked us what we knew. I was being taught how to use google drive when I had been using Google drive for 4 years. #worldgeochat
A3: straight lecture or something completely irrelevant to my position or job responsibilities; I like hands-on, new tools, collaboration with others #worldgeochat
A4. Haha. I guess this was bound to come up... I don't want to be too specific, but we are required to go to a massive conference each year where most of the sessions are not relevant to us, and sessions are outdated. So sad. Let's UNCONFERENCE! #worldgeochat
A3 Have been lucky as of late with teacher driven PD. Ts outline specific goal they have in mind & are given time to work towards that goal. Has enabled collaboration, sharing of ideas/resources & tons of new ideas that will directly impact Ss learning. 🙌🏼👍🏼 #worldgeochat
A1 Every Center for Geo Educ in Oregon international PD experience I've taken Ts & pre-services on! We not only get to travel but learn geo ed & have great teacher bonding experiences #worldgeochat
A3: If it isn't applicable and if I am not given time to process, discuss, collaborate and own it -- then it's not time well spent. And let's face it; in this job - TIME IS EVERYTHING #worldgeochat
A3: Worst PD was when the presenter spoke for the full hour and it was monotone and a wordy ppt presentation. The presenter ignored questions and stuck to the script. I left with a headache. #worldgeochat
OMG! We had one of these at the beginning of the year, but scrapped because many teachers did not want to take online attendance. Even bigger waste! #worldgeochat
A4: I love maps, don't get me wrong, but geography isn't just all about maps. Provide tangible PD that can be applicable in class almost immediately #worldgeochat
A4 There needs to be a deeper connection between Geo ed and future jobs and careers. Too many Ss don’t see the connection to future employment. #worldgeochat
A4: I think actual PD on our content. The PD usually offered is either on strategies, tech, or other general student issues. We only usually have 1 day each year focused on our specific content area. #worldgeochat
A4 career tie ins. Designing real world 2018 problems that need top be solved using geography. Would love time, collaboration to explore this with business/community people. #worldgeochat
I was going to bring this up! I need to be reading more content related PD. I tend to gravitate toward the pedagogy//tech stuff. I love the social studies, but there is only so much time in the day. #worldgeochat
A4 Teaching world & US history and geography, I'd love more PD that integrates history & geography. You can't teach history w/o geography & you can't teach geography w/o history, so why separate the diciplines in PD? #worldgeochat
A4
What is lacking in geography education professional develoment is GEOGRAPHY EDUCATION! Unfortunately, we are an afterthought far too often! #worldgeochat
A4. Need more avenues for spatial/geographical thinking emphasis...something akin to what SHEG does in history. Nat Geo's Geoliteracy emphasis is a good start. #worldgeochat
A3: Someone leading PD at my region HQ once had everyone in the room stand and give me a half ass sarcastic applause because I taught social studies and I wasn't a coach. Most condescending, embarrassing moment of my career. #worldgeochat
Geo teachers need a bit of what all teachers need... a way to share our own wonders/passions, permission to try something new and completely different, time and space for deepening our own understandings, and someone to make sure we enact balance - recharge. #worldgeochat
A4: Cross-curricular training! As someone who's new to Geo this year and in a team setting (middle school!) - more emphasis on how to best incorporate the other core subjects could really make my class sing! #worldgeochat
A4 Pt 2 Also, geography education should be emphasized more in primary grades. Ts could integrate geography in English, SS, science, math more! #worldgeochat
A4 Grant $$ to travel the world! I would be interested in PD that shows new & upcoming apps/tech platforms that provide virtual tours/virtual reality experiences. Colleagues & I currently looking into GoogleCardboard & GoogleExpeditions #worldgeochat
#worldgeochat THIS. We need to be able to connect & collaborate. Too often we are the only ones in the building/district. NatGeo Essential Elements is a must.
@caranowou knows his stuff. #follow him
Iwas so saddened when I spoke with a "retired" public school teacher who is new to our private school this year. She mentioned she was "done with PD" and was happy everything she had learned in her career. No! We need to model life long learning! #worldgeochat
After all, if you don’t feed the teachers, they’ll eat the children (a sloppy paraphrasing of a Deborah Meiers - I think 🤔) (also not meant literally 🍴) #worldgeochat
Geo teachers need a bit of what all teachers need... a way to share our own wonders/passions, permission to try something new and completely different, time and space for deepening our own understandings, and someone to make sure we enact balance - recharge. #worldgeochat
I have done some work with ss around city planning but made it their level with redesigning the school to be more efficient, looked at wages and job descriptions of city planners as well #worldgeochat
A4: Connections to real world jobs and cross curricular uses. When my students hear geography they think maps, but there are other uses. Geography impacts culture, and expectations. Why NC reacts to snow in a way that NY laughs at... #worldgeochat
Use what your are teaching. If you are talking about a PD tool use it. If you are talking about a strategy use that strategy. Choice is also key. Finally, time to create. #worldgeochat
A5: Really asking what educators are looking for from attending PD. I've only led at EdCamp styles or with the #worldgeochat crew at #NCGE this summer. Give it back to the educators who are dedicating their time to join you
A5 Only small scale department meetings, but you have to make it easily accessible and IMMEDIATELY relevant for teachers. We don't want to spend more time on ONE more thing in our schedule. #worldgeochat
A5 Being able to take Ts on intl trip helps engagement :) Also, talk w/ Ts to see WHAT THEY WANT! Make it practical, interactive & give Ts the resources to do it in their class & keep momentum going, BUT MOST IMPORTANT: TREAT TEACHERS AS THE PROFESSIONALS THEY ARE #worldgeochat
A4: I like ready to use resources- like finding the perfect text sets for 6th graders, or ways to connect with other educators to discuss best practices. I have been really lucky to find #worldgeochat and some great classes at local Universites.
A5: I try to make it as interactive as possible, and have the audience share what works for them. The smartest person in the room is the room and everyone can learn from everyone. I also try to match what my PD is about to the needs of the audience. #worldgeochat
A5: Same as my everyday class... Would I want to be a student in this class? I want them to leave empowered, willing and wanting to try something new tomorrow. #AndIRap#worldgeochat
A5. It's much like the classroom--mix up the time with a combination of hands-on immersion activities, plus teacher debrief/discussion, and some listening time and independent exploration time. #worldgeochat
A5: Two faves have been: 1. Room-wide Rock-Paper-Scissor tournament (There can only be ONE!) 2. Games to incorporate Play in our instruction. We need it more than you might think. Get people up & moving! Learned from @FutureReady#worldgeochat
A5: Kickoff with Music! We have a sweet playlist for our #PDLCamp on Tuesday. Also giving attendees choice and opportunities to share/collaborate #worldgeochat
A5 Essential to be clear, concise, relevant, & relatable. No one wants to be talked at. Humor helps. Concrete lessons, materials, what worked/didn’t work, student exemplars, & extension activities are more help. #worldgeochat
Hey, #worldgeochat! I'm sorry we missed this PD extravaganza. I was writing tomorrow's blog (how flowering plants took over the world). Will be sure to catch up and link to the Participate round-up!
A5 #worldgeochat
Be flexible
Start w/asking what they hope 2 learn vs. what I thought you'd be instructing
Shape those two things together into something useful (you're the expert & should be able 2 do this)
Help build a lesson they WILL use tomorrow(ish)!
A5. Hands on, student work samples, discussion, lecture when appropriate, keep powerpoint simple, people can't listen and read at the same time #worldgeochat
I also need to present the opposite side: If you are an attendee, please be engaged. If the PD leader asks what you're hoping to learn, TELL THEM! PD leaders don't want to waste your time with something that won't help you #worldgeochat
Q5: If I led PD, I would try to run it ed camp style, where teachers direct their own learning: I would check in and see what they want to accomplish and then do a status report at the end to see where people are in achieving their goals. #worldgeochat
A8 Well, in my case an easy one. Provide pedagogical and resource ideas to my university pre-service teachers students & let them play w/ their ideas #worldgeochat
A8 Be a genuine listener. Listen to what Ts need. Encourage risk taking and cultivate collaborative learning. Model that behavior by being a lifelong learner yourself. #worldgeochat
A8
SHARE!
Just make sure you share ideas and resources with your coworkers.
And promote #worldgeochat - we are the only place offering weekly #geography PD!
A8: Speak up more. I tend to be quiet and in my own world more than I'd like to admit. Talking to my colleagues, encouraging them, and cheering them along is something I'm trying to be more present for! #worldgeochat
We have a professional library in our Media Center. Our Media Specialist will order whatever books we request. It is an amazing way to try out books with no risk.
#worldgeochat
A8 Share what you have learned, observe other teachers, try new things and don't be afraid to ask others how you could do it differently if it fails. #worldgeochat
Q8 Help someone start a twitter account, suggest a #PLN to follow, give someone a book, sign up your PLC for a conference, volunteer to lead a PD session, join a committee, share an idea with a teacher friend, observe a class, kick in the principals' door and talk #worldgeochat
A8 #worldgeochat
Do you have a skill with a technology that might be useful in a different class/discipline? Go find a colleague & say,
"This is so cool, I think you might like it/want to use it, can I show it to you?"
You just provided PD to a colleague.
A8 I'm still a newbie at my school, so I don't feel it's my place to tell other Ts to be open to PD & growth. Feel like best thing I can do is be open myself, continue to search out PD, and hope that sharing my experiences encourage others. #worldgeochat
Q8 Help someone start a twitter account, suggest a #PLN to follow, give someone a book, sign up your PLC for a conference, volunteer to lead a PD session, join a committee, share an idea with a teacher friend, observe a class, kick in the principals' door and talk #worldgeochat
A8
Talk! Find out what is happening in other classes/units. Discuss tie ins, cross curricula overlap. Ask how I can support another subject or what they can do to support mine. #worldgeochat
As we begin to wind down, I want to say thank you to @jmgarner2003 for taking the lead on this one! Such an AMAZING conversation tonight, full of great resources. Truly the best form of #professionaldevelopment out there #worldgeochat
Q8: I have a snow day tomorrow but I try to support teacher growth by collaborating, and doing PD when asked. We cannot grow as teachers if we are unwilling to share resources and give/receive feedback. #worldgeochat
Thanks so much @jmgarner2003 for leading tonight's chat and thank you so much to all who particpated tonight! I know my to read list just got a lot longer! #worldgeochat
Crud! #worldgeochat is coming to an end?
Next week we are getting ready for the Olympics and @FANgeopolitics and we are taking the week after off to see what happens this State of the Union!
A8 I just invited Ts in my bldg for #ImpromptuPD. Asked them to bring PD books they're reading & we'll talk about using Twitter. Hoping to stir interest. See where it goes... #VerticalThinking#worldgeochat#GrassRoots
Be thankful, support your specialist / library and advocate. You're fortunate to have a professional library as well as a staffed media center. #worldgeochat
Goodnight #Worldgeochat you always bring brightness into my Tuesday nights and beyond! Teach on!! Great job @jmgarner2003 EVERYONE engaged sharing learning!
Loved my first #worldgeochat! Thoroughly enjoyed the engaging conversation & looking forward to checking out some of the book recommendations. #worldgeochat
Q8 Help someone start a twitter account, suggest a #PLN to follow, give someone a book, sign up your PLC for a conference, volunteer to lead a PD session, join a committee, share an idea with a teacher friend, observe a class, kick in the principals' door and talk #worldgeochat
A8: Share, share, share! Build each other up! Your colleagues are doing awesome things that you may not even realize if you are on your own island. And vice versa #worldgeochat
A8 I'm still a newbie at my school, so I don't feel it's my place to tell other Ts to be open to PD & growth. Feel like best thing I can do is be open myself, continue to search out PD, and hope that sharing my experiences encourage others. #worldgeochat
