Good morning, #HackLearning family and friends! So glad to be chatting PD.
Sylvia, Academic Coach for Professional Learning / ENG Tchr, Title 1 HS in Tampa, FL
I'm Connie Hamilton, curriculum director in Saranac, MI and co-author of Hacking Homework. Most of my year is spent planning for, delivering, and reflecting on PD - Great topic in #HackLearning today.
Good morning fellow eduhackers! Kristen Dolen, Instructional Coach in Liberal, KS. I’ve recently developed a passion for this topic and looking forward to everyone’s thoughts! #HackLearning
Welcome to #HackLearning I'm Sean from Orland Pk IL and I'll be GM today. I've been Hacking PD in my school and can't wait to hear more ideas from this great crew.
Good morning #hacklearning. Carla, secondary principal from Santo Domingo. PD is one of my favourite topics - the area where I still get to be a teacher!!
Welcome to #HackLearning I'm Sean from Orland Pk IL and I'll be GM today. I've been Hacking PD in my school and can't wait to hear more ideas from this great crew.
A1: Schools can be innovative in their use of time, support virtual experiences and infuse PD with tech for authentic and connected teacher learning. #hacklearning
A1 How about a book study - on Voxer? This allows teachers to connect with others outside their district and listen/share when it's convenient for them! #HackLearning
A1: #personalizedpd sessions have been proven to be a huge hit in our building. To are asking for more self guided learning to find what works for them. #HackLearning
I’m a Regional Executive Director for the Florida Department of Education Baurea of School Improvement - supporting our most fragile schools in the Southwest Region. Excited to be part of this Sunday Chat #HackLearning
This year my school is using learning walks, and I find them useful PD. I just wish there was a way to for Ts to let us know when they are doing something cool #HackLearning
A1: 1) Don't waste PD time on things that could be done over email. 2) There are experts (Ts) in every building - let them shine! 3) Make way for new ideas & new teacher leaders. #HackLearning
A1: voxer for book studies, Twitter chats for these or for exploring ideas, flipgris too! We are also going to use Google classroom for our Learning Labs readings and obs (video using @goswivl) #HackLearning
A1 I'm a strong believer in the power of weekly, personalized PD. It can take so many different formats - book studies, small group work, enquiry, edcamp....#hacklearning
A1 from @Stella_Pollard , I tried Appy Hour - hands on play time with new tech ... we are encouraging coaching cycles for personalized PD ... challenge is building a culture for Professional Learning #HackLearning
A1 Teachers, like kids, need to be inspired ... PD should inspire teachers ... could be a simple email with some information encouraging teachers to try something new. #hacklearning
A1: Staff facilitated and chosen PD. Check out these short workshops ran by staff on many different diversity/inclusion topics. Staff was so excited to lead & have choices. Everyone attended 3 pre signed-up for workshops. #HackLearning
A1: The most powerful professional development is observing your colleagues teaching in action. Not only do you learn from their expertise but you get to provide feedback through a fresh lens. #HackLearning
A1 How about a book study - on Voxer? This allows teachers to connect with others outside their district and listen/share when it's convenient for them! #HackLearning
A1: Once I do learn something I want authentic time to collaborate with other content area teachers to reflect and design ways to implement what was learned. #HackLearning
A1: #PineappleCharts or set up a district-wide Twitter chat or even a specific school Twitter chat to share ideas. Send out a weekly podcast. Break down class walls by posting pics of great things happening in T’s classrooms. #HackLearning
A1: How about a twitter chat, or a slow chat, where teachers can sink into a subject on their own time and not have to do a force-meet on a topic? (Like we do, on Sunday mornings...) #hacklearning
A1: PD has to be able to be done in a way that fits a Ts busy life. We are doing book studies through Facebook and Twitter, learning through peer observations, and currently a challenge to see who can do the most Twitter chats! #HackLearning
A1. In my first principalship we designated one Tuesday a month as Toolbox Tuesday. The idea was that Teachers would share their expertise or a beat practice with colleagues thereby adding to everyone’s toolbox. 🤓 #HackLearning
Just had PLC's last week, and shared FlipGrid with the Ts. Told them you can't do a Twitter chat without someone mentioning it. And for good reason. #HackLearning
A1. Love the idea of a voluntary book studies where the individuals get to choose the books they read and then they can use Twitter/FB/Vox etc to talk about the books and how they're implementing ideas. #hacklearning
Loved our district's PD model this year. "Professional Pathways" - Ts were able to choose a pathway (out of nearly 100 different ones) to follow for three sessions. Deeper learning + teacher choice. #HackLearning
A1: In truth, some of my best PD comes from Twitter. I'd love to see more of my colleagues engaging in weekly chats like this -- or even starting our own chat! #hacklearning
A1- Some Ts at my school created a Google Classroom and a Google Site to allow flexible learning as a sort of flipped model. Ts loved participating on their own time. This would be great for book studies. #HackLearning
A1: Pineapple charts pointing the way to cool stuff in action, and allowing the Ts to get a sub for a few minutes in order to see it happen. #hacklearning
A1 as we do with students, give teachers something interesting to awaken their brains to the task. Engage and include; Please don't just stand and deliver! #hacklearning
A1: Get Ts involves in Twitter. We have done this with #IHMarchMadness this year and I’ve learned so much. Our district does T lead PD. WE pick sessions to attend. #hacklearning
A1. Rose from Virginia dropping in. We have seen participation in our Pineapple Chart increase throughout the year. Teachers report they like the extra incentive knowing they may peers in their room. #HackLearning
A colleague and I are planning to do a first ever twitter chat for our school. I can't guarantee it will work out (it's hard to know if you will get buy in or not), but it's worth a try! #HackLearning
A1. Seems too often I see PD being conducted/facilitated/ led by folks who aren’t immersed in the practice they are teaching themselves. Experts are those who are doing the work. Teacher leadership matters. #HackLearning
A1. I think there are so many opportunities to model meaningful PD to a staff w/o having a formal workshop: facilitating PLCs, sharing of best practices during meetings, modeling strategies that teachers can use in their own classrooms during meetings, for ex #HackLearning
A1: Make time and coverage for inter classroom visits and plenty of opportunities for Ts from multiple grade levels and departments to collaborate...mix it up for diversified viewpoints. #HackLearning
A1 we have used an Edcamp Style in our building. As staff to lead an edchats for your building or district. Ask Ts what they want to learn #hacklearning
A1: Book clubs!!!! I cannot suggest them enough. Could be online if they can't be in person. But nothing like providing the book and dinner, and everyone meeting one night. We've even brought in authors! #HackLearning
A1: giving time for Ts to visit other classrooms even if it’s just 10-15 mins. An informal once a month brainstorm/sharing session of what’s working well in our classrooms. #HackLearning
A1: Each faculty member submits a link to a lesson that they are proud of. A hyperdoc is created with links to these lessons and shared with the staff. #hacklearning
A1 Loving all the variations on book studies.being suggested. To lower commitment bar & foster participation, same models could be applied to articles or other shorter, timely texts. Podcasts, even. #hacklearning
A1- job embedded PD with coach or instructional leader (using plan time to plan how to try new strategies), book studies, lunch and learns, observation of colleagues with time to meet for feedback after... #hacklearning
A1 Each week a different teacher hosts the staff meeting (small staff) and presents something about their practice for the first few minutes #HackLearning
I like Appy Hour - I also use Sandbox time where you play with the app/tech for 5 minutes, then share what you've found for 5 min, then ask questions. Ss & Ts love learning this way. #HackLearning
A1. The most transformational form of PD is class observations. We can “talk” about great strategies all day long and get nowhere. See it in action, however, those ideas become concrete & attainable. Best part is it grows the observer AND the person being observed! #HackLearning
I love this #coffeeEDU idea, but I have an aversion to coffee. Can we change it to a breakfast EDU, or Morning Drink EDU? ;D OJ is my game. #hacklearning#hackhashtags! ;D
PD improved when key feedback is harnessed as it connects with the learning goals and having truly meaningful learning opportunities https://t.co/bsrlGm80od#HackLearning
A1: The #observeme and pineapple chart movement has allowed Ts to truly collaborate and share ideas => opportunities to showcase strengthens but also highlight vulnerability #hacklearning
A1: The most powerful professional development is observing your colleagues teaching in action. Not only do you learn from their expertise but you get to provide feedback through a fresh lens. #HackLearning
A1. In my first principalship we designated one Tuesday a month as Toolbox Tuesday. The idea was that teachers would share their expertise or a best practice with colleagues thereby adding to everyone’s toolbox. 🤓 #Revisionsmatter#HackLearning
A1: the PD that work best have been when we have been able to make choices from a menu of discussions and learning opportunities led by my peers #hacklearning
Yes! I would love to see this at my school. We are spread out over 3 campuses and could really benefit from sharing resources and connecting with @Twitter#HackLearning. I'd love to see how others set this up.
A1: In truth, some of my best PD comes from Twitter. I'd love to see more of my colleagues engaging in weekly chats like this -- or even starting our own chat! #hacklearning
Loved our district's PD model this year. "Professional Pathways" - Ts were able to choose a pathway (out of nearly 100 different ones) to follow for three sessions. Deeper learning + teacher choice. #HackLearning
A1: the PD that work best have been when we have been able to make choices from a menu of discussions and learning opportunities led by my peers #hacklearning#ihmarchmadness
Love this idea ... tickets ensure space and materials are ready and / or not wasted - and that all people are respected ... thank you for sharing!! #HackLearning
A2: Teachers need to have a say in their own professional learning. It must be relevant, interactive, practical and something teachers feels benefits their own practice. They need both choice and voice. #HackLearning
A1) I also think a website housing videos of teachers at a school could be powerful. A quick way to see what the Ts at your school are doing. However, being comfortable enough to display your work on video can be challenging for some. #HackLearning
A1: And, bring in student teachers; encourage the Cooperating Teacher Role... it’s powerful for organic PD and there is a lot to learn as a participant in a situated learning experience. #HackLearning
A2. Every school has teachers who are experts in one area or another. These people are our greatest resources! Create a culture of teacher leaders. Allow them to lead PD and set up classroom observations. I am inspired most by my peers who are crushing it! #satchat
A2: Allow T to tell you what they would like to learn more about. Allow time for Ts to practice/do the idea/topic that’s being shared. #IHMarchMadness#hacklearning
A2: Ask for feedback and ask how it can be improved!
Schedule observations to see the tools in class. Offer them 1 on 1 coaching with the strategies. #hacklearning
A2: When learning new strategies, teachers/staff must have time to see them modeled, practice them, and incorporate them into future lessons (and maybe even get some feedback!). As it is with our students, without practice, it's pointless! #hacklearning
A2: Some sort of accountability piece where teachers can share what takeaways they got. Like a shared Google doc where each T can share and see what others put. #HackLearning
A2: Workshops must be personlized and relevant to@the Ts. They have to be able to implement immediately to see the benefit of the idea/strategy! #HackLearning
Love it! We're working on using teacher's goals and matching them up to create their PLC's. Not based on dept or level or anything else - focus on their goals. #HackLearning
We know there is a learning progression. When designing PD, we have to offer structures that allow teachers to move from surface --> deep --> transfer. #HackLearning
Survey teachers & find out what they want to learn in trainings so they can apply these strategies with their students. My Meetings & Workshops page https://t.co/Aolf4pRaHy My PD page https://t.co/EYf2WOLysN Skype in outside ed experts to help train your staff #HackLearning
A2: Collect ideas about what they want to learn about our get better at - have a T who is great at it lead the PD - have a follow up (don't let any PD be a one off session) - have Ts observe e/o and give feedback on the topic learned #HackLearning
A2: I’ve told Ts that if they find something in my session that they really like, to start investigating it to maximize their learning on what they are passionate about. #HackLearning
This school year, I will lead over 100 of these CIFT sessions with teachers learning from one another through classroom observation - crazy powerful! #HackLearninghttps://t.co/D3x5nIMWnC
Got the Joy, Joy, Joy down in my heart ...
Sorry. I know that's a church song (may cross the lines), but it popped into my head, when I saw your tweet!
#HackLearning
A1. In my first principalship we designated one Tuesday a month as Toolbox Tuesday. The idea was that teachers would share their expertise or a best practice with colleagues thereby adding to everyone’s toolbox. 🤓 #Revisionsmatter#HackLearning
A2. We can start by asking teachers what skills or strategies they want to improve or sharpen and then providing an opportunity for them to work on those skills they’ve identified. Disconnected PD is common and problematic. #HackLearning
Honest question for principals out there: I know there is a certain amount of legal or district-mandated PD. How much "discretionary time" do you get with your PD in your buildings? #HackLearning
Let’s also ask the questions beyond the ‘type of PD’ toward the worthwhile activities that we know make the learning worthwhile whether formal, informal, tech-based, f2f etc., ie., reflection and #feedbackfriendly strategies that work in the moment #hacklearning
A2 tchrs need to experience the strategies not just be talked at ... honor their expertise as well ... if they can model it, let them ... like @AVID4College tutorials for tchrs #HackLearning
A2: Teachers can only be open to learning if we offer a compelling reason as an opening to a PD. Without establishing "why" PD cannot be relevant. #HackLearning
Google Forms, Discussion Boards, School/District Twitter chats, Shared Google Docs - so many easy ways to hear from Ts ahead of time and to plan PD accordingly #HackLearning
Good point. Sometimes less is more! I do want Ts to leave hopeful and confident that they've learned something valuable and they've connected with their peers in ways they don't during a normal school day. #HackLearning
A2-Use relevant school data and teacher input to choose topics of importance for PD in your building. Keep PD practical so staff can use what they learn. Also it is up to those leading to keep up with best practice or listen to staffs needs to keep Pd relevant. #hacklearning
I made a cute flyer. Sent an email to a friend at each school in the district (tried to pick teachers) so they could forward the flyer to their co-workers, promoted the #coffeeedu on Twitter using our hashtag, and put flyers in as many places as I could to get attn. #hacklearning
A1)we are working to give Ts choices that fit their needs and then we meet as a whole to share information. We also get Ts to present for PD sessions that they are utilizing in class. #HackLearning
I am looking at the observe me hashtag.Does it involve a sign that you put out when you have an awesome lesson going on that you don't mind other teachers stopping in to observe? #hacklearning
Is there an organized, well-run slow chat you know about? I'd love to create one for #HackLearning. Should it have its own hashtag, like #HLslowchat, or #HackLearningSC (some might think that means South Carolina)?
In reply to
@AustinELA8, @MoAESP, @SteinbrinkLaura
Love the follow up- did we use what we learned? How did it help better our practice? Did we modify it to make it better? This reflective piece would be impactful. #hacklearning
A2 have them led by Ts in their district/region (edcamp approach) more likely to feel confident asking questions to those you are comfortable around, more likely for some T to attempt new strategy when they can easily reach out to the presenter #HackLearning
A2: Follow Up! Giveteachers a chance to implement, then give time to come back and reflect. If that was standard practice, teachers might be thinking “How will I do this in my room?” from the start. #HackLearning
A2. When we (admin) decide PD focus without the voices of teachers, we invite them to cognitively disengage from the work. Professional development should always be connected to professional practice. #HackLearning
A2: Be sure teachers/staff know who to follow up with if they have questions about a strategy or need to see a model. This could (should) be leadership & other teachers. Also, have 1-pagers, video examples, & other resources in a folder ready to share for reference. #hacklearning
A2: Isn't every teacher different - just like every student? How can we get teacher buy-in for every PD given? Let's get T input PRIOR to PD, feedback DURING PD, and then change it during so that AFTER PD they are sure to have gotten something relevant. #hacklearning
A2-It starts with asking what Ts need and then getting feedback on if the need was met. It also involves anticipating trends from informal listening. Make school a safe place for teachers to “fail” and learn so that evaluation is part of the process, not the end. #HackLearning
We tried this last year & yes, you put a sign outside your door (at least we did) for others to see. I think it's worth trying, though it didn't really take off at our school. #HackLearning
Data is so important and a big focus in so many schools, but how many actually give the Ts the ability and power to create solutions to the gaps we find in the data. Give Ts ownership & we'll see better results. #HackLearning
Are you thinking of offering an incentive... like show up and contribute on the twitter chat in lieu of a #f2f meeting or is an optional add-on? #HackLearning
A2: relevance today is constantly changing. Focusing on the needs of the school is a great way to start and making sure the presenter is able to invite by in #HackLearning#ihmarchmadness
That is fantastic! Thank you for sharing. I made a copy so that I can go to the links in a bit. I am going to share the idea with our admin. #hacklearning
A2 Blend principles of cohesion, progression, personalization, collaboration, application so whatever learners are filled with lasts meaningfully vs. being lost in one-&-done flurry. #hacklearning
A2 it’s also important that ideas compliment what you’re already doing. Nothing worse than loads of ideas which conflict with each other. #HackLearning
A2 Example don’t always do 1 hour blocks. If you are showing a new tool let teachers see it from the students point of view then work as the teacher. We need time #HackLearning
Very important point! We need to train Ts to look through data and make meaning of it along with admin. They need to be part of Pd planning from there... something we are working on this year! It takes time to get this right, but it’s possible! #hacklearning
Oh, I love that! I'll have 2 check out their format & see how they're doing it. I've seen several districts do chats, which is what gave me the idea. I've occasionally, accidentally participated in some w/out know what they were, but I've always been allowed to stay!#hacklearning
Data is so important and a big focus in so many schools, but how many actually give the Ts the ability and power to create solutions to the gaps we find in the data. Give Ts ownership & we'll see better results. #HackLearning
A3: by following Ts on twitter and growing your PLN. Participate in twitter chats, get to know individuals and help each other learn/grow daily rather than just during PD sessions. #HackLearning
A2: Professional development should be inquiry driven. Too often the problem being addressed is predetermined leaving many teachers disengaged #hacklearning
A3: that's a good question! Trying to build relationships with schools around the region and have sent teachers to three districts to observe teaching and learning. Would love my Ts to engage on Twitter/voxer - having a school Twitter chat at PD soon! #HackLearning
Disconnected PD is a big problem – great ideas but no opportunities for meaningful follow-through. Why not organize PD into units, the same way we organize learning for our students? Learn how: https://t.co/3xO8C5atrM#HackLearning
Absolutely. I see effective PD as a cycle: 1. Specific & educator driven 2. Led by peers when possible, 3. Implemented w/ feedback on success/opportunities 4. Post conference w/ https://t.co/nhmu9l1rCI, PLC on next steps, 5. Evaluated for impact on student outcomes #hacklearning
It is not too often anymore that district workshop has people from outside district, but edcamps etc.
talk to them, share ideas, make connections, follow/pln on twitter
#hacklearning
I like that we can put context to what we do! Actually show what we do on the walls/projector/etc. The only way to get us in each other’s rooms sometimes. #hacklearning
A2: Why not flip the workshop so Ts have background info and time to process ideas or questions PRIOR to the PD so they can be more efficient about reaching the level of practical transfer at the workshop? #HackLearning
I like to end my presentations to teachers with 2-3 first steps. They are simple ideas that can be implemented in their classrooms the next day to get them on track. If PD is too overwhelming, we won’t do any of it. Good to keep in mind for our students, too. #HackLearning
A3: If students need access to a global classroom, teachers need access to global connections of their own. We MUST model the engaging practices we hope teachers will use. Help teachers boost their PLN and connect together to benefit all students. #Hacklearning#edtech4good
A3 it would be interesting to use @Skype or another video program for live feeds from other sessions - years ago, EdCamp Orlando met with EdCamp Equador during lunch ... exciting! #HackLearning
Yes, but please make sure you do something for them - their time is valuable, just like ours. Sometimes their Google Hangout is more effective than being there in person, too. #hacklearning
#Hacklearning Hello, Hack Learning! Shelly, Teacher Prep instructor in Oklahoma. I was all ready to start the HL chat, and my little one woke up and wanted to snuggle. Priorities! :-)
Or when the PD leader doesn't make the connections clear/show how these ideas can work together. Make sure you are thinking about misconceptions/pushback/needs before presenting. #HackLearning
A3: There are so many ways to connect outside the district. A balance of using our internal resources and bringing outside perspective is key in district PD. #HackLearning
A2) Broaden the knowledge source: if one person stands in front you'll learn what that person knows. If everyone shares and this is valued, teachers will walk away with more. #hacklearning
of course data matters but students' perception of selves as learners, their confidence in their ability to learn, their belief in themselves, is hard to quantify and depends so much on their relationship to their teacher! #HackLearning
A3: Along with Twitter, Voxer, & online connections, take advantage of local community experts. I live near a college town - lots of opportunity there! #HackLearning
This largely depends on where you are. Some teachers voice the opposite - they don't have an opportunity to learn from one another b/c there's always an "expert" coming in. #HackLearning
It is not too often anymore that district workshop has people from outside district, but edcamps etc.
talk to them, share ideas, make connections, follow/pln on twitter
#hacklearning
A3 I'm with Kristen. Hashtags are powerful organizing & exploring tools. Increasingly great for stalking conferences in far-flung locales, poaching learning tidbits. #hacklearning
A3: It would be really interesting to schedule site visits to other districts on PD days. Seeing other educators in action is so powerful! #HackLearning
I've only hosted one (in January) February went by so fast! I am helping plan a #CoffeeEDU for Wednesday. I invite everyone when I host :) #HackLearning
A3: If you're the organizer, mix people up! Icebreakers, seating, different groups/ partners throughout, lots of moving & sharing. If this isn't happening in a workshop, get up, and meet and share w/ different people! #hacklearning
A2.Ts need to have a voice on specific needs for PD-they are in the frontline each day educating Ss. That coupled w/ what’s being observed as trends Ts will find relevant. Modeling those strategies for Ts & supporting them along the way creating a risk free env #hacklearning
Our math teachers skyped with math teachers from the other middle school during one of our pd days. We could do that with others outside the district. #HackLearning
A3 Align PD days so Ts from different schools/districts can attend workshops together, or use different PD days to observe each other’s classrooms across schools/districts. #HackLearning
Chocolate, lots of chocolate. Oh, and getting surveys of what teachers want to learn about and then addressing those topics in PD's. Developing a hook for teachers like we do for Ss. #IHMarchMadness#HackLearning
#HackLearning A3) pre-plan this by posting ?s on Twitter in advance and then highlighting the responses from the twitterverse during PD. “Here’s a great idea from @________ for what we are discussing.”
I think just an optional add-on since I am not in charge of any PD at our school, nor have authority to make those kind of decisions. I'm hoping it might bring more Ts across the sections (we are K-12) together 2 collaborate. #hacklearning
Zoom is pretty amazing. I've been able to get in on some PD through a nearby collaborate - @EGCollabLab w/ @Ashida_Linda and it's wonderful how many people can be there at the same time! #hacklearning
A3. Educators need community and that community must not be restricted to the teacher’s lounge. There’s an opportunity to create some formal structures that allow educators to share and learn from each other..that’s why I started #leadershipwithlatoya#hacklearning
Q3: Professional learning must be relevant, engaging, ongoing & made personal. That can be delivered by someone from the outside but if so, it must follow with support by school staff or PD lessons in short video format #HackLearning
Connnect with like-minded educators during twitter chats. Build your PLN. Connect face-to-face at Edcamps. Share ideas & new understandings with others thru edublogging. #HackLearning
A3: I love finding new people to follow on twitter at PD, whether it is the presenters or other educators. Great way to keep in touch and keep sharing/learning from each other! #hacklearning
A3: With power of #edtech, PD does not need to happen in person. Breaking down this constraint allows PD to span across multiple districts and become highly differentiated #HackLearning
Got to the point once where the strategy on assessment was so muddled I was expected to assess a piece of writing in seven different ways. #HackLearning
In the example Carla shares, I like the last bit that bakes in reflection & portfolio curation. Worthy steps for learners of many/any ages! #hacklearning
A3 Let’s invite participation from neighbouring districts, connect educators together using LIVE #hashtags so they experience collaboration beyond classroom walls. Then chances will increase that they’ll try this with SS 👍 #HackLearning
A3: Using a blog post or passage from a book to jump-start conversations can connect distance + face-to-face learning in a powerful way, too. #HackLearning
Oh, I love that! I'll have 2 check out their format & see how they're doing it. I've seen several districts do chats, which is what gave me the idea. I've occasionally, accidentally participated in some w/out know what they were, but I've always been allowed to stay!#hacklearning
Sounds like a good way to start. If you are interested in having some company from my Ts here in Mexico City, let me know and we can join forces. #HackLearning
If y’all haven’t read The Four O’Clock Faculty by @RACzyz it’s amazing. Gives a lot of great ideas for revolutionizing PD. Plus it’s a short read 💁♀️😂 #HackLearning#4OCF
A3- We can learn by using the power of technology. Skyping, Twitter chats, Flipgrids, and anything else that can connect us beyond physical presence when needed can help bridge the gap. Learning occurs beyond walls everyday and this chat proves it. #hacklearning
And when Kristen says she's passionate, she's not kidding. She's got almost every #HackLearning book. Blogs about them, shares with colleagues, tweets to the hashtag daily. Can you say, EduStar? Thanks Kristen.
Good morning fellow eduhackers! Kristen Dolen, Instructional Coach in Liberal, KS. I’ve recently developed a passion for this topic and looking forward to everyone’s thoughts! #HackLearning
Love this idea. We need to connect outside our buildings more. I know we have Twitter, but face-to-face conversations with Ts in other places can open so many more ideas. #HackLearning
I recently participated in a @zoom_us meeting and it was great. Saved travel time and was very efficient with time. Wish there could be more. #HackLearning
YOU ARE ONTO SOMETHING! I did a mystery skype with my teachers with a classroom. Why not teacher PD to teacher PD? Let's try this! #HackLearning#preservicelit
Often, my best PD comes from informal, non-directed convos w/colleagues. Not sure how to make time for that/track it, but it is valuable! #HackLearning
A3) I've been spending time lately watching videos on the Teaching Channel. It's a great way to see teachers in action from all over. https://t.co/A8ikgOqEH2#HackLearning
No. I'm busy prepping for @ASCD#Empower18, so my focus is there. #HackLearning is an exhibitor (Booth 2026), and the prep is crazy. I could now write a book on it.
In reply to
@Stella_Pollard, @MrsHugginsClass, @alicekeeler, @ASCD
A3- can’t sum it up better then this @GSmit4Character! Also following workshops I find myself reaching out to colleagues in other districts or even on twitter to see their districts practices in our most recent learning! #HackLearning
Q3: Professional learning must be relevant, engaging, ongoing & made personal. That can be delivered by someone from the outside but if so, it must follow with support by school staff or PD lessons in short video format #HackLearning
A3: with online workshops teams can watch and discuss together, awesome Twitter chats #IHMarchMadness and using interactive smartboards and hangouts to go live. There is so much we can share with each other #hacklearning
In St Louis area, a principal created a PLAN among Ts from area districts. We meet twice a year and connect through Twitter, shared Google docs, and @padlet throughout the year. Great resources #hacklearning
A3. Feelings of isolation are gravely problematic and exacerbated in our field. Even with the practice of PLCs, I still see many educators who feel alone in their work. We have to change that. We need each other. #hacklearning
Join #HackLearning chat March 11 at 8:30-9:00am EDT when Naomi Austin @AustinELA8 will be guest moderator leading chat on the "hacky" topic of Creating Leaders.
Sometimes - I truly think it depends on the icebreaker. Pointless silly ones, yes (me included!). But ones that let you talk, share, and really get to know each other are exciting because you know you'll be connecting w/ new people! #HackLearning
A1 How about a book study - on Voxer? This allows teachers to connect with others outside their district and listen/share when it's convenient for them! #HackLearning
