    I call these lasting impressions BigWOWs - they make a big impact in small ways. We change the setting of the classroom, the entrance to the school, etc. Last January the kids came back to a "red carpet event" at Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy #leadLAP

    When I was a school principal, I wrote a welcome back note to all teachers & staff-take to each classroom/workspace & leave the note w water & snacks. I would deliver before the 1st day back so when they walked into their space, the note and goodies were waiting. #LeadLAP

    Probably a 1000 “Strategies” for this (meet at classroom door etc) but I’ve found that simple things such as a quick convo during class change, being visible during lunch duty, supporting extra curricular activities work best. Just be genuine. #LeadLAP

    I totally affirm you with this! Years ago me and some of my colleagues did a home visit, and the family told us that they were surprised by our visit because no one else before had done that. A simple outreach was a game changer just like you said. #LeadLAP

    A6 We had a snowball fight at a staff meeting last year. Everyone writes their name on a piece of paper, crumples it up, and throws it into the center of the room. Everyone picks up a "snowball" and writes something they admire about the person. Repeat often. #LeadLAP

    #LeadLAP We also instituted time for teachers and staff to work on their own passion projects - we call it My Time. They do these things with students that share similar interests. This values all for the other skills they bring to the school besides their knowledge of content.

    You've touched on a "secret" some leaders miss and that's the value of what I call an "ongoing dialogue". When all stakeholders know that we have an ongoing dialogue we can always have the most accurate and timely pulse of what's happening and what stakeholders desire. #LeadLAP

    Same! At my school, we are allowed to leave at 2:45. I start out saying I will leave by 4 and always stay until the building closes at 6. I am struggling with meeting my goal of leaving at a reasonable time. #LEADLAP

    A7: To start up a school podcast, but not in a traditional sense. Plan to use @gosynth and have a S from each grade level in the district say one awesome thing they learned or experienced, string it together, and create the weekly podcast (like a shoutout podcast) #LeadLAP.

    Q6: One thing we recently started was a treat cart. We walked room to room pushing a cart full of goodies. We stopped at each room and told Ss why we were recognizing their T. The T then came out and selected treats. The Ts loved the idea. We plan to do it more often. #LeadLAP

      That's awesome!! We ditched the 'reason for tardy' & instead ask what do you need? Hug, Love, or Peace. The secretary gives kid a hug & tells them how much she loves them. Td knows if kid needs peace for a few minutes before starting the day, or an I love you & hug. #leadlap

    I'm totally digging this! When I was a brand new campus administrator years ago, one of the first things I did was walk the hallways before and after school started. I learned that visibility was one of my greatest assets and ways to foster and build goodwill. #LeadLAP

    At the beginning of the day I greet students, then set goals, prioritize, and respond to emails. At the end of the day, I interact w/each S as they leave. I then organize desk, respond to emails, and put a sticky note on top of my computer w/ must dos for the next day. #LeadLAP

    I have an "Urgent" and "Soon" Google Keep list, if it's not on either of those, it probably won't get done. ;) #LeadLAP Letting it go is sometimes necessary.
