It really is and I NEVER have any behavior problems during that time. I just love it!
Lots of student choice & voice but also rely on the support of other Ts, learning specialists, etc Can't do it alone
Good morning! Kaitlyn from NJ!
I help Ss in our district by helping Ts to integrate technology while reminding them that acad. achievement is still the main goal
Meeting needs of all comes with listening to the voices of our students and responding accordingly.
Good morning Lori from Ohio joining after a little absence....missed the chats and you all!!
I also know my books in my library and know my Ss and then match them up!
Start by getting to know them, their passions, needs, etc. Build a relationship and trust.
Knowing your Ss, their strengths/weaknesses is crucial
In my Alt ED class it's small class size so in Ss center projects it almost becomes individualized instruction. Lots on 1on1 time
Good morning!! Greetings from Santo Domingo. It has been a long time, it feels good to be back.
Good morning It's all about relationships.
I make sure that my Ts have the material they need and the freedom to take risks to imp instruction for their Ss
Conversation and having rapport with the students 😊
Meeting the needs of ALL students IMO starts with developing genuine relationships with students. https://t.co/l03zkkLtDZ
I think the same concept could be applied when working with Ts. I need them to trust me to try new things. https://t.co/wnfAoWySOI
Meeting needs of all Ss starts with relationships & trust. Know what they care about so you can then build relevance to content.
In addition to differentiation, MINDFULNESS of your Ss' needs and your resources. Couple that with strongly-built relationships.
Good morning everyone!!!!
So true. Ss need to know you are on their side.
I try to learn the most about my Ss in the 1st few months. That relationship helps me build a learning plan for each S.
Good Morning! Love more Jersey in the house :)
I begin by learning something about them. Then we can have conversations. Then I connect them w/great books. More to talk about!
You meet your students need by differentiation, providing choice and making them empower of their learning
Important to encourage Ss to take ownership for their learning exp. Many know what they need to succeed. They need our encouragement
I tell them that I am here for them!
Reading interest inventories at the beginning of the year.
Knowing that I cannot do it all alone and opening my classroom door to visiting speakers and guest teachers on a regular basis
Yes! Sept can be a little unsettling as I don't know them as well as I would like yet!
same here, but math. Knowing their interests and passions guides my lesson directions
It's also important to treat them like people, not "just students"
Kaitlyn isn't just Jersey, she's AWESOME!
the principles of teaching & learning are often the same.
I will try to join in tonight!! https://t.co/x0lv74w05K
Good morning ! Chris here from Ontario! at 7 pm EDT today...RESOURCES & professional learning. Please join us.
Now that is an excellent endorsement!
Getting to know each and every student builds the relationship. Meeting each student where they are is the first step to success.
I'm hanging in. How bout you?
Allowing Ss to explore various pathways of learning and encouraging collaboration is key.
Gamification really helps to meet Ss where they are and help them continue to grow. So many paths they can follow.
Being mindful of learning styles and varying the activities with this in mind
Hi all! Oona from NJ TARDY! Sorry. Making banana muffins with my early riser over here.
Pre-teach vocab, modify text for Lang/length, connect past to current events, 5 min assessments=routine; strive to give choice more
Yes! True differentiation occurs after I have built a trustful relationship. Then we can find an individual path for growth.
I am lucky enough to share my day w her and her Ss. A wonderful group w a great T!
1 way I meet the needs of my Ss is by sitting with each 1 & finding out how I can better help while class is engaged in group work.
and see that it's OK to not always succeed on the first try ( or more!@)
seeing as I work down the hall from you, I like this development
Yummy!!! When can I stop by?! 😉 https://t.co/j7Qh7biRvA
Hi all! Oona from NJ TARDY! Sorry. Making banana muffins with my early riser over here.
I also collect the work at the end of each unit in folders from freshmen to evaluate their student skills. Highly valuable.
Also important to not make decisions based on OUR experiences but rather truly seeking to understand Ss needs, esp. emotional
I survey my Ss at the beginning of the year and then present them w/ the data to discuss impact on class: https://t.co/kER2hIVam6
North NJ here. We need to make a map
Also Central and getting ready to !
I have my Ss do reflections. 3rd graders are brutally honest. I get from there what they need
looking for resources or sites to help implement new curriculum post 9/11, many thanks!!
Meet Ss where they are and build on skills from there. Model that learning can be fun!!
Is it a dumb answer to say that I talk to the students to get the info I need to give them the instruction they need?
Amen!! We are human beings journeying TOGETHER!! https://t.co/5H7BdVCdSh
It's also important to treat them like people, not "just students"
Thanks for sharing this!!
Yes! Extend the reach of your classroom beyond the 4 walls...blur the lines between it & the real world early/often.
Humor is also important on the way 2 building relationships and knowing how 2 reach Ss.
Mini lessons with whole group, then individualized or small group targeted to Ss needs
we did our training this week, have my ready to log all that walking
last year I had my ap/ seniors do an mbti test. It was so helpful.
How do u teach them to take ownership? Ideas??

Not at all...this is where it starts!
Especially grade 6! They are better at articulating!
Tonight at 9 pm EST. I'd love to see people join us! https://t.co/QKd44CKT8x
Don't miss this week's on Thursday, April 7th. Topic: "Can Student Effort Be Measured?" Please RT!
Also means that there is rarely a 1-size-fits-all approach, lesson, assignment, etc. Custom the learning to each S.
In ELA, diagnostics in help to determine where I need to put a focus on Writing instruction.
Absolutely not. It's the unobvious obvious answer. https://t.co/pk28Kr9JB6
Is it a dumb answer to say that I talk to the students to get the info I need to give them the instruction they need?
for sure, gotta laff, make learning as much fun as possible !! (also great stress reliever!) https://t.co/kyYhu6IFoB

After a personally disappointing few weeks with work, I am super energized by the comments and interaction this AM! Thanks
Absolutely not. I peer conference with Ss and we talk about their reading & writing habits. Insightful https://t.co/v2wrEbroX7
Is it a dumb answer to say that I talk to the students to get the info I need to give them the instruction they need?
Goal setting is another great way to assist Ss in meeting diverse needs. When Ss set their goals they are more vested.
Reflection makes an impact. Ss love to give honest feedback but are not always included in reflection but does!
Making connections and building a community with students helps Tt meet the learning needs of individual students'
"It made them seem more human" 8th gr student after interviewing a Teacher for our Oral History project. Love it.
is good for that. I hope your coming weeks shape into something better!
Can be fun, fulfilling, rewarding, for a lifetime start where they are https://t.co/J8lLdANg26
Meet Ss where they are and build on skills from there. Model that learning can be fun!!
Allowing/encouraging students to lead the learning can be very impactful...engaging, purposeful, meeting needs.
Constructing our own understanding (through drawing) is important for learning.
Thanks 4 another great chat! Have a fantastic Thursday everyone!
Amen! Jackson Pollack, not paint by numbers. Maybe Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, Picasso.
NO WAY! It would be dumb NOT to! I have to be willing to listen to the Ss so I can best respond to their individual needs.
Make sure it is a two way street. Build relationships and incorporate student input. They know what works best for them
So true. Use a variety of S groupings to maximize differentiation and implementation of personalized learning.
Goal setting, tracking their own progress paired with conferring is powerful!
Thanks for a great chat everyone! Have a wonderful Thursday!

Imagine missing out on such masterpieces...all different...all beautiful in their own way.
what other profession is sharing ideas at 530am?!?! thank you!
Conferring with Ss is very beneficial for both Ss and Ts. Meaningful feedback keeps Ss moving forward.

Don't forget we can continue today's topic on sparkchat voxer group or the lounge for other convos!) https://t.co/iPm7aJJdRf
I did a grad writing sample recently. Prompt given, "Should Ss be allowed to challenge ideas&facts?" I'd be concerned if they didn't!
Have a great day folks! Glad I could pop in and get your wisdom to start my day. Now,
Being out of the classroom hurts my perspective I think and keeps me grounded
Mine too. Makes you question your worth/value.
About to have my 1st! I have to wait an hour after taking medication. It's longest hour of my life every single morning!
Team, grow our - I am following everyone from this chat - Great Ts that are committed to learning https://t.co/kX4FSdy6Kl
