Good Morning #bfc530 Continuing to snow here in NW NJ We are delayed but a closing is within the realm of possibility. (Although I heard the plows while walking the pup)
Can’t any mistake become a teachable moment if we just notice and name it? “Here’s what I tried. Here’s how it failed. Here what I’ll try next. Here’s why it’s worthwhile to keep trying.” #bfc530

When I make a mistake with a student, I make a big deal of apologizing and explaining myself. There’s no shame in being wrong if you reflect and improve. Sincerity! #bfc530

Omg we constantly have what I refer to as “epic fails” in our baking lessons every week..we embrace them..we laugh at ourselves as adults and we start each lesson by saying “it will look nothing like the picture, but it will taste good “ 🤔😆#bfc530
I think my wife jinxed it. She told my daughters & I last night it would end early enough to clear the roads to keep it a delay. It's also wishful thinking on her part, she wants some peace & quiet instead of all of us home on her day off LOL #bfc530
#bfc530 I am very honest with #students when I make mistakes. I have no problem, saying, "Sorry, everyone, I did not explain that well. Let me give you those directions again." #Students respect your honesty.
Any time I make a mistake (which is often), I am always honest with the S & apologize. Then I try & make it right. I think it builds trust w/people in general #bfc530
I tell them/show them when I mess up. I make it as safe as possible for them to feel that it’s ok to make mistakes. Then we work through our mistakes to fix them if at all possible. The Most Magnificent Thing is a great book for this! #bfc530
Massive experience.
Came as probably the best goalkeeper in the league here and found she wasn't the best there.
Had to work hard and that's why she went... to learn #bfc530
I always admit my mistakes in class but I also say what I tell my kiddos - " it's okay to make a mistake if you learn from it and try to fix it"- so we also discuss how to fix our mistakes #bfc530
GM #bfc530 friends. Owning up to my own mistakes and modeling that it’s normal to make them—especially when learning—seems to work. It humanizes me to the kids who aren’t “good at school” and takes a little pressure off the overachievers. Would love to hear other ideas!

I’ve seen “mistakes of the day” used well- no names, just talk about the misconception and acknowledge that mistakes further our understanding and help us grow! #BFC530
I’ve come to embrace my (frequent) mistakes in class as an asset, not see them as a liability. Teachers have to be clear with students that making mistakes is part of being human, and what’s important is how we react, learn, grow from them. #bfc530
Admit the mistake, be vulnerable, and then model the growth that is possible. Show students that mistakes are inevitable, but lead to success if we learn from them. Be a student first and a teacher second. #bfc530
We al make mistakes ... it is all part of learning ...I think as educators we try to sugarcoat mistakes. “You did a really good job here. I like how you put your name on the paper, but your answer of 354 for 2 + 2 is not quite correct.” #bfc530

#bfc530 Also, when you make a mistake, do apologize. If you call a #student by the wrong name, or realize you didn't make enough copies of something, say "sorry." #Students deserve the same #respect you would give to anyone else.

Yes! Agree! #bfc530 I always laugh and do the "truck backing up" beeps, then start over. Hey, we are all human. Be sure to give the S's the same courtesy.

Within Math happens all the time.
I never allow laughing at others ; #1 rule is respect.
Them redo & fix.
Working out problems on #VNPS vertical erasable surfaces really helps drive home that mistakes are ok... Work to fix.

Mistakes can make us stronger...as long as we move forward without dismissing the potential growth that lies within...students and educators need to take time to reflect and learn...mistakes can be powerful teachers! #bfc530
Everything she has learnt has been through rising from disappointment.
At 12yo she tried out as State U 16 keeper and missed out. Devoted next 3 years to achieving this and did at 15.
Sat on bench for Div 1 Womens team for a year until she proved herself to be No 1 keeper #bfc530

#bfc530 I think it also makes us more real when we share past mistakes. When I was in #highschool, I had typing class, and I tell #students about all the mistakes I made. Remind them that it is okay to make mistakes.
A teacher owning up to a mistake or apologizing to a student/class is powerful. Our display of authenticity will strengthen our relationships w/our students, not weaken it. #bfc530
I do a lesson called "the problem with mistakes" we all discuss how to learn from them and the only problems w mistakes are hiding them & being afraid to make them #bfc530

#bfc530 This #book has been in my #Amazon cart for a while, This morning's chat might be my reminder that it is time to go ahead and buy it. (I love books by #ToddParr)

Whenever I make a mistake we talk about the fact that everyone makes them, even adults. What matters is how you handle mistakes and move forward. #bfc530
This year I tried to move a unit on spreadsheets to Goole Sheets and sorry it was awful!
Talked about it with all the kids.
Decided Excel was better for somethings.
All agree. No problem. Try & fail. It's ok. Next time it will be better.

Bruce in NC, gearing up for some possible nasty weather, again 🙄. I apologize to my S’s if I make a mistake, I expect the same from them. Have a great day #Bfc530
I taught with a woman who called herself Miss Ann. She would say to our 7/8 grade boys, “You’ve done boy, now you’re gonna do man,” whenever they screwed up. #bfc530
I usually just ask the student to walk me through what they did. Most catch mathematical errors, if they don't, I might ask them to check 22-9 again. #bfc530
Remember kid in my Alg 3 class calling eacher "stupid" for mistake. He got mad & even though I hadnt laughed, but his defense was calling me out for failing last test & getting extra help. Neither the kid or him should have said what they said. Still remember 30 yrs later #bfc530

As a teacher, you keep those things in the back of your minds. I know I have said some poor statements myself, if I do, I reach out to the student and apologize. Sadly, we cant get words back #bfc530
well the news has been "Headlining" snow since yesterday morning ( guess nothing else has happened in the news!) Seems the rest of NJ got something ! #bfc530

Can hear the plows at work on the state highway and secondary road near my house, my wife's hope for today may be true (delay only). Either way, have a great day. Im Out! #bfc530
#bfc530 I applaud whoever caught the mistake, or highlight it if I did, and explain that we’re smarter together than individually. “All of us are smarter than one of us.” Builds team mentality and a culture of trust-both in communication and not being afraid to fail!

We could start by students taking ownership of their mistakes, and also letting them know it’s OK to make them. But what is most important is this to that students given the opportunity to correct their mistakes. I always tell my students “make it right”. #bfc530
RE: wouldn’t it great if all out Ss embraced this idea in an SEL context and also applied ( perhaps switching “ learning” for teachable ) #bfc530#siglerlearns

I watched as one of the Sigler RoadRunnerRobotics kids went to the #hydrodynamic challenge table, ran robot, failed, reprogrammed, failed again, rebuilt attachment, failed again- repeat 13 times last 30 minutes of class then asked “Can I stay? I need to try again! ”#bfc530
