Liz from Virginia Beach. Second grade teacher in VBCPS. Thankful to be connected to @KLHouston3. We taught together years ago and I’m glad to have stayed connected and to watch her grow as a teacher. She is a true #champforkids
A1 - Keep conversations about Ss and what work we can do for them. Kids must remain priority #1! Listen more than you speak, be trustworthy, and have fun! #champforkids
A1: I think the key for successful connections is being a person who can listen and stay positive. Often times, we jump to share our own negative experiences instead of listening to that person and providing positive support. #champforkids
A1: It is important to take time to collaborate with other teachers. It could be a face to face meeting or electronically somehow. We need to share our ideas with each other. #champforkids
A1 - Keep conversations about Ss and what work we can do for them. Kids must remain priority #1! Listen more than you speak, be trustworthy, and have fun! #champforkids
A1: Being sincere in your efforts to connect makes a tremendous difference. Ss recognize true caring and it can prove the true difference.
#champforkids
A1: Genuine concern for others. Nobody can appreciate a phony. Be interested in the person that you are relating to. Value them as a person. #iste18#etk18#champforkids
A1: Collaboration is the key to successful teacher connections or relationships. Teachers that work through struggles and celebrate achievements together become closer and realize that everyone is invested in the same goal: success through learning! #champforkids
A1: Communication..especially a willingness to listen... is key. It doesn't even have to always be about Ss or a lesson. Just getting to know someone is still valuable within a school. We are all more than just Ts and educators. #champforkids
A1- definitely trust and vulnerability! In order to deeply collaborate you have to be willing to show weakness. Not easy for Ts when we feel like we “should” always have the answers. #champforkids
Q1 - "Staying connected with other Ts creates and enviro in which collab and innovation are the norms."
What do you think is the key to successful T to T connections or relationships? #champforkids
A1) Positivity. I think the importance is looking for the good in others (even others who may not embrace change so easily) and with Ss we need to look for the good. #champforkids
Howdy #champforkids from Barbara, newly-retired school counselor and author of What's Under Your Cape? Super excited to be here tonight; first time on this chat.
A1~ trust, transparency & a willingness to do whatever it takes to always put kids first ~ no matter the difficult conversations that sometimes need to take place ~ this type of T to T relationship should be judgement&blame free 😊#champforkids
A1: TRUST! We have to help build trust among teachers so they will support each other, share with each other, collaborate together, and hold each other mutually accountable. That means being transparent too! #champforkids
A1 working as a team and sharing ideas to help students succeed. Teachers are all on the same team to help students. If teachers support each other and help each other the students win #champforkids
A1: for all memebers, grade level, speicialists, AMP, etc to be viewed, valued and represented as a team. It takes all of us to best support all of our students. #champforkids
Q1: The key for me has always been to be authentic. Be real with each other, no fluff. Be respectful at all times, but just be open and honest. Also, don’t be afraid/forget to laugh with each other. #champforkids
Q1 - "Staying connected with other Ts creates and enviro in which collab and innovation are the norms."
What do you think is the key to successful T to T connections or relationships? #champforkids
A1: Successful T to T connections involve listening and sharing. Being able to bounce ideas off of another person and really consider their ideas and questions builds a trusting relationship. #ChampForKids
A1: Finding your teacher tribe. Connecting with others and truly working towards a common goal. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves it is ALL about our kids. #ChampForKids

Q2 - "Let other Ts know that you are on the same team & this team is working toward Kid Victories!"
Share a "Kid Victory" that came about as a result of being connected to another T or group of Ts. #champforkids
A1: Successful connections are based on communication. Relationships are built on trust and keeping the focus on the reason why we do what we do...the kids! I'll always have conversations with "what's best for our kids?" in the back of my mind. #champforkids
A1: Knowing the teachers you connect with, professionally and personally. I grow better with people I know and love (just like our kids grow best when we know and love them back!) #champforkids
Q1 - "Staying connected with other Ts creates and enviro in which collab and innovation are the norms."
What do you think is the key to successful T to T connections or relationships? #champforkids
I think the key to successful T to T collaboration is constantly keeping in mind your joint goal- improving the methods of sharing information with Ss through creating more engaging lessons and always putting Ss needs first. #champforkids
Q1 - "Staying connected with other Ts creates and enviro in which collab and innovation are the norms."
What do you think is the key to successful T to T connections or relationships? #champforkids
A1: I think vulnerability and transparency are so important in connecting, to be who we really are so that our connections can help complete us and challenge us to step up our game as we play and grow with our Ss. #champforkids.
A2 - #sciencepalooza was a Kid Victory that came about as a collab w my ITS, Reading Spec, Classroom T, even admin was behind me! The victory came from increased science confidence, exploring new products and ways to show mastery, which showed on the state test! #champforkids
A2: We worked together to help a student be successful by talking through what worked in each others classroom. Making suggestions and being willing to try something new was just what was needed. #champforkids
A1: I feel like this may be too simply said, but to me, anything is possible when you have connections! Projects, field trips, learning opportunities, are all open once you have the right connections! #champforkids
Q1 - "Staying connected with other Ts creates and enviro in which collab and innovation are the norms."
What do you think is the key to successful T to T connections or relationships? #champforkids
A2: My Ss pushed into a class with @megan_hacholski and @_on11, who went above and beyond to help my Ss be successful and included. I think we all walked out of the class everyday with a big smile on our faces. #champforkids
A1: for all memebers, grade level, speicialists, AMP, etc to be viewed, valued and represented as a team. It takes all of us to best support all of our students. #champforkids
A2: The first one that pops to mind is my online collaboration with @EMercedLearning . She kept me grounded in the last month with one of my kiddos who had some challenging behavior. #champforkids
Q2 - "Let other Ts know that you are on the same team & this team is working toward Kid Victories!"
Share a "Kid Victory" that came about as a result of being connected to another T or group of Ts. #champforkids
A2: I often talk with teachers that finally broke through to that one student they never thought it possible... The difference makers? Persistence and belief.
#champforkids
A2: @csg0623 believes that all means all & never gives up. When there is a student who needs extra celebrating to boost their confidence, we step up willingly. We collaborate to ensure each of our Ss receives exactly what they need to be successful. She is a true #champforkids
A2: Got to share this with @jmattmiller yesterday. Connecting w/challenging students are @megan_hacholski's specialty. She shows that she cares/values them as a person, not a data point, so they will do anything for her. #iste18#etk18#champforkids
A1b: I’ll admit I didn’t read the entire question - T to T connections involve trust, being honest, open. Asking questions and learning from your colleagues. #champforkids
Q2: “Kid Victories” are the best when you are working together to support the student long after they’ve left your class. Just today I got a text about a former student’s SOL success this past year! 💓#champforkids

#champforkids A1: Teachers need to get out of their comfort zones and connect with local colleagues, PLCs, cross town teachers, coffeeEdu...and across the nation...twitter, Facebook, instagram, voxer...reach out and learn together :-) ♡
Thank you so much! I'm open to every suggestion and comment and if you'd like to connect to work on a project, I'd be happy to find a time that would work for the both of us! #champforkids
So important to stay judgement free, student centered, and positive! All sounds easy, but when the rubber meets the road it is pretty difficult! #champforkids
Often comes as a result of being connected w/ school counselors & support staff. Being self aware to know that I don’t have the full story all the time, and that they can help, can help me get reach students easier #champforkids
A2: My 6th grade team actively worked to find Ss who were slipping through the cracks. We each picked one to champion so no one would get lost. #champforkids
I always appreciate it when people are honest with me when I share ideas or ask questions involving planning, student behavior, classroom management, etc. #champforkids
A1: trust, empathy, and a common goal. To have true connection their must be trust and no fear of judgement. Empathy because each T is coming from a different place of experience, and each must be focused on the goal of what’s best for kids. #champforkids
A2) I was able with the help of a 5th grade gen ed teacher, to get one of my students in her classroom for 85% of the school day. Up from 50%. #champforkids
A2) “Kid Victory” led to coaching inclusive cross country team when I collaborated with teachers seeing a similar need for activity and teamwork! #runners#includerun#champforkids
A2 being connected to the #PhysEd community has made me a better T for my Ss with all the lessons and ideas that are shared. Being able to connect with all of these amazing Ts has helped make my lessons better for my ss and has pushed me to work harder for my Ss #champforkids
A1: Knowing the teachers you connect with, professionally and personally. I grow better with people I know and love (just like our kids grow best when we know and love them back!) #champforkids

There are so many! My team and I worked to help identify several kiddos that fly under the radar. They never get in trouble, make good grades, etc. We wanted to make sure they knew that we knew how valuable they are! #champforkids
A2: My connection with @jchandlerteach this spring was amazing; because of her kind invitation, I got to connect with her class 3 times via Skype to share 3 books and help grow her class' #empathy and #growthmindset! #champforkids

How do you show kids that you are listening?
When/how do you make time to listen to them? #champforkids
A2 My best “Kid Victory” this year was Pi Day bc although I organized much of it on my own, I did collaborate with Ts & as a result Ss had an incredible experience that many referenced in my EOY teacher reflection from Ss! ♥️ #champforkids
Q2 - "Let other Ts know that you are on the same team & this team is working toward Kid Victories!"

@_mlb25 is always a soft place to fall for our struggling Ss. Without fail. She has a smile, a hug, a few words of reassurance and the Ss ❤️her. Hands down. Much respect & admiration for this colleague. Humble, kind & makes a mean margarita ❤️ #champforkids
A2: as a building we collaborate and share ideas to help students. Whether it’s with academics or life, we do what we need to do and stay persistent. #champforkids
Agree...I have worked on having relationships with my support staff (rsp, speech, intervention) - This has helped me provide the support needed for my own students. #champforkids
A2: I had a kiddo several years ago whose behaviors were off the chart (in kinder.) Climbing shelves, throwing desks and chairs, growling. The behave. interventionists interventions did not work. The counselor and I made a plan with him and he was able to do better. #champforkids
A2 Worked together for a student with behaviour issues. We planned a strategy to help him and implement it in both environments. He knows we are working together, it's helped a lot #champforkids
A3 - Invite Ss in & stop what you're doing. Ask them what is going on in their lives, & look them in the eye & truly listen. Listen w/o judgement and w/o planning your response or solution. Just listen! Lunch bunches, hallway, recess, small group, etc. #champforkids
A2: As a school, we are working towards becoming more aware of student's social and emotional status and becoming trauma informed! This is a "kid victory" for all of our students! #champforkids
A3: I try to take time out of everyday to check in with Ss. It can be as simple as asking about their night or as detailed as a 10 minute conversation. The important thing is to let them feel comfortable to talk. #champforkids
A2. We have a small staff and everything we do is a result of working together for kid victories. Providing support for each other when challenges arise which results in kids knowing we work together for their benefit. #champforkids
Q2 - "Let other Ts know that you are on the same team & this team is working toward Kid Victories!"

A2: During our intervention time it's all hands on deck. Teachers, interventionist, librarian, Ins. Facilitator, paras, everyone joins in for the success of our kids. We managed to take to take a 1st grade lvl reader to on level at EOY. What a feeling! #champforkids
A3: I stop what I am doing. They let me know when I don't. I ask questions. I follow up later, when they think that I have forgotten about what is important to them. That blows their minds. #iste18#etk18#champforkids
A3: Be 100% present & give Ss undivided attention during morning greetings, conferences, feedback meetings, goal setting appts, lunch bunch times, etc. You need to make sure your Ss know that you are available & if now is not a good time, you WILL make the time! #champforkids
A2: I support 1st graders on READ plans, but not certified SPED - I worked with 12 addtional Ss and progress was made and the best was the trasnfer of skills from my groups to classroom to home. #champforkids
She is pretty awesome and I am glad that you had her support! That is what connections are for! To keep up going and to support... Judgement free team! #champforkids
A2: These two Ss worked so hard a passion project. I got them the materials to make their model but they were determined to make it rotate. They tried all the materials I had but couldn’t make it work. @khoggardGRT gave them the right tool. #champforkids
Hi all! Sorry I’m late! Chatting while rehabbing. Believe me, nothing more entertaining than a bike. 🙄 I’m Kristen from PA. I teach 6th grass physical science.#champforkids

Share a "Kid Victory" that came about as a result of being connected to another T or group of Ts. #champforkids
Q3: Eye contact & just let them have room/time to talk, share thoughts, to share their point of view uninterrupted. We have even created a video, email, slide, anything to express what they’re feeling & they know I’ll see it and respond. #champforkids
A3- I provide them with the same “active listening” I expect- eye contact (or at least facing them depending on S), not speaking while they share, restating what they have said. If I’m still doing something else while they are sharing how can they feel “heard”? #champforkids
Q3 - "The simple act of listening helps us connect with even the hardest to reach students."
How do you show kids that you are listening?
When/how do you make time to listen to them? #champforkids
A3: One time of day where I know this happens is our Play to Learn time. They get to guide the activities during that time, I hand them the reigns and I follow along #champforkids
Q3 - "The simple act of listening helps us connect with even the hardest to reach students."
How do you show kids that you are listening?
When/how do you make time to listen to them? #champforkids
A3: I show kids that I am listening by stopping to talk to them and asking questions about their day and their life. When they respond, I actually listen to what they are telling me. #champforkids
A1- Trust & validation. The other T's must know that you LISTEN & value their feedback in order for them to be receptive to suggestions given. We all have days that are harder than others so it is also key to validate other T's feelings, but also encourage them. #champforkids
A3: Be 100% present & give Ss undivided attention during morning greetings, conferences, feedback meetings, goal setting appts, lunch bunch times, etc. You need to make sure your Ss know that you are available & if now is not a good time, you WILL make the time! #champforkids
A2: So many kid vicotories! But one thing I’m really proud of is that a volunteer team of about 20 staff members helped me develop a rocking master schedule for our kids next year w/ 7 recesses per week, all Ts teaching Writer’s Workshops, and block schedule & more!#champforkids
A2: As a school, we are working towards becoming more aware of student's social and emotional status and becoming trauma informed! This is a "kid victory" for all of our students! #champforkids
A3: Make time for them; this is not a time to multi-task, be distracted, etc. Make eye contact, make sure arms aren't crossed (Ss are all about body language), and just listen. Don't judge or interrupt. #champforkids
A2: My kid victory is having this amazing kiddo (on the right) connect w/ my old partner and friend. She became his mentor, she loved him, he loved her and his confidence was built because of her (and me of course 😜). ♥️ @MrsOwingsClass#champforkidshttps://t.co/WjE9wdG5Ut
A3. This is the heart of what I do! This can range from simply being that person that is there during the silence to reflecting what they are saying to asking deeper questions to checking in every day. #champforkids
Q3 - "The simple act of listening helps us connect with even the hardest to reach students."
How do you show kids that you are listening?
When/how do you make time to listen to them? #champforkids
A3 - Look them in the eyes, talk w/ them about their interests - school involvement, etc.. Even something like having the perfect book recommendation for them at this point in their lives ca show them that I see them, know them, listen to them #champforkids
A3: I have a rule that I will talk to every student at least 2 times before they walk out of my room. Asking how they are doing, how the day is going, discussing school.. #champforkids
I'm so glad you are here! You will find so many other awesome peeps in this group and you def need to be sharing all that superhero goodness #champforkids
A3: Make time for them; this is not a time to multi-task, be distracted, etc. Make eye contact, make sure arms aren't crossed (Ss are all about body language), and just listen. Don't judge or interrupt. #champforkids
A3) Each student has their own handshake with me, in the morning. They know and often do ask me to speak outside, which means them and me only! #champforkids
Q3~get down to their eye level, always authentically look at them with a smile, pause to let them speak their mind & purposeful listening wherever, whenever < and sometimes that may mean we are late w/transitions, but they are the priority and other things can wait #champforkids

A3: I am on a mission to amplify student voice in all that I do! #ChampForKids If you want to learn more about this powerful tool - read @RickJetter & @RebeccaCoda’s book Let Them Speak
A3 show them that you are listening. Make eye contact, ask questions, and then follow up the next day with them when they tell you something they are doing later. A simple how did that baseball game go last night means a lot to them #champforkids
A1: Be transparent. Share successes and failures. Ask questions. Offer to help and share resources. Acknowledge where t are coming from, meet them where they are, slloooooowwllly guide them to where we want them. Oh, and don’t gossip or engage in negativity!!! #champforkids
A3 I have short chats with them when I'm checking agenda's in the morning, we have a morning meeting, and some kids decide to stay and chat at recess/lunch #champforkids
A3: I've come to realize my time with them is limited and counts down quickly I make them the most impt thing about my job when they are there Take and make time to listen always #champforkids
A3. I start class on the listening nite asking Ss on their way into class how they’re doing/how their weekend was. Also have them fill out an All about me survey to find out their interests & extra curricular activities so I can show up to them or ask about them #champforkids

A3) My fav time to listen to kids is lunch time actually. 🍕🥪🥙 It’s sometimes the least assuming time for me to hear their real thoughts and feelings on school, life, interests. #taketime#champforkids
A3: The best time to actively listen and give your 💯 percent attention to kids is when you have lunch with kids or play with them at recess and just talk...
#champforkidshttps://t.co/IGEzKx50Pl
A4: I run a few clubs and I never say no. I’m up for anything the ss, other tt, our admin wants from me. As long as I won’t get physically hurt, lol!!!! #champforkids
A3: I take the time each morning to wish each student "Good Morning" before they enter the classroom. If a student has something to share or needs to ask a question he/she will wait to the side - Then I speak with that student privately. #ChampForKids
Q4 - "Showing school spirit tells kids that you are excited to be a part of the school and to connect with them."
Share some examples of how you show school spirit. Share pics if you have them! #champforkids
A3: As a principal my goal is to log at least 4-5 miles per day on my campus. The best way to connect and show support for Ts and Ss is to be present!! I’ve had parents ask me how I know all the kids names...it’s because I talk with them daily!
A4: We do a yearly student vs. staff basketball game. One year, my brother @schoblue75, who is a NFL lineman on the @chargers, came in and played in our game and needless to say it was a moment to remember filled with school spirit. #champforkids
A4: I think supporting kids at events outside of school is a great example of school spirit. It shows, again, that you value them as people not data points. I love going to events, games, shows, etc. There's nothing that I would not do for them. #iste18#etk18#champforkids
A4:There isn't a school spirit day that I don't get excited about participating in. The Ss love it! In #BeTheOne@sheehyrw says "DON'T BE AFRAID TO DRESS UP. When educators walk around in a costume, they grow more comfortable with having fun and doing wild things." #champforkids
A2- my teammate and I this year had a fantastic year that resulted in many "kid victories." Together we empowered our Ss and instilled a love and drive for learning. By the end of the year, our Ss owned their education. It was fantastic! #champforkids
A3: We journal, and it's amazing. They leave a sticky note sticking out, so I can read/comment. The conversations are impressive! I make sure I have lunch with all of my students. During that time, I'm all ears for them...no phone, no distractions...just us. #champforkids
I do the same and do not take it personally when I just get a grumble back. I do teach middle school after all... it's so hard to wake up. #champforkids
A4 - Always agree to be involved in pep assemblies and other activities when asked. Ss don’t ask everyone, so it is a great way to be a #champforkids and show school spirit!

A3: Make time for them; this is not a time to multi-task, be distracted, etc. Make eye contact, make sure arms aren't crossed (Ss are all about body language), and just listen. Don't judge or interrupt. #champforkids
A3: Asking questions about what a student is talking about let’s them know you are listening and it helps you know more about them and build a stronger relationship! I’m always listening even if we have to take a little longer to get to the content! It’s worth it! #champforkids
A4: we often have themed weeks where we can dress up or wear school colors. My favorite days are Halloween or ugly Christmas sweater day. (I’ve shared this before......but I dressed up as my Dad last year). #champforkids
A4: The pics are on my jump drive...
We had monthly Spirit Days that our "houses" chose for the school. We had Red Ribbon Week and Dr. Suess Week. #champforkids
#champforkids. A3 I have a hallway walk each morning and sometimes I don't make it past the gym because a Woodchuck needs to talk or get some reassurance for the day. It's important and respectful to stop and listen.
A4 I am all about school spirit! I do not pass up the chance to dress silly or attend a school function! From dances, to math night at our local grocery story, to book character days, to school spirit weeks! I love connecting with students this way! #champforkids
A4: We have school spirit shirts and a motto, but I would definitely like to see more school spirit flood our hallways next year. We need to go a step further with decor and Ss-created art, etc. @LearnLatina we were just talking about this! #champforkids
A4 school spirit days are the BEST days. It builds a family throughout the school when everyone gets involved. When Ss see their teachers participating they will join in! Let Ss pick different spirit days so they have a voice #champforkids
A4: I agree with @_on11 that one wonderful way to show your school spirit is to support kids outside of school and attend their extracurricular activities after school or on the weekends. #champforkidshttps://t.co/EyvIeH33aW
A4. We have celebrations honoring kids that earn credits, an informal graduation ceremony where the graduate shares "Words of Wisdom", white board challenges, spirit week, school colors day - anything that allows kids to show off their pride in their school. We do! #champforkids

A5: @khoggardGRT & I have discussed creating weekly "calls to action" & then having Ts share responses or examples via @Twitter & @Flipgrid . We're also looking at ways to do a make-over in our "coaching corner" to make it more conducive to T & S conversations. #champforkids
A4: Whatever the theme for the day or week.. always always participate!! Kids love it and we get to show another side. 😊 Yes, even crazy hair/crazy clothes.. #champforkids

This is my favorite! Hall duty is one of the best parts of my day! Saying good morning to all 600 kids is really the only thing I want to do in the mornings! #champforkids

A5: I do well with Ss communication, but I often don't plan time to really engage and talk with other T beyond my PLC and team. Talking time for them too is a must for the following year. I could pick a day and dedicate a conference to this. No more hiding in room! #champforkids

Exactly. Because I couldn't get Ss outside of the school physically this year, I tried to organize video conferences w/ Ss doing amazing projects in other areas of the world. Was lucky enough to connect w/ some of @DonWettrick Ss @Luke_Johnstonn@Luke__Reks and ++ #champforkids
Yes. I don’t know how this would work logistically, but instead of spending half of HS learning esoteric info I’d like to see Ss spend 50% of time OUTSIDE of the classroom. Ya know, in the real world that we are supposedly preparing them for..🤷🏻♂️
