#ALedchat is a weekly chat on Twitter about education topics. It is held each Monday from 9-10pmCST. While the discussion on #ALedchat continues on Twitter well beyond our weekly one-hour chat session, this platform affords us the opportunity to extend, expand and share the conversation with an even greater audience. Educators from across the state of Alabama, and the world, can come here to find encouragement, support, resources, professional growth opportunities and advice, while providing the same to their colleagues.

A1: Our 5th and 6th grade Ss had a parent STEAM day. They created STEAM challenges for parents to do. It was great fun for parents to see what/how our Ss are learning! #ALedchat
A1: Formally, it is inviting parents to be part of the classroom by volunteering, chaperoning, and just helping out. Informally, standing by the school each morning and greeting Ss and Ps is a great way to show they are valued and appreciated. #ALedchat

A1: We always have a great turnout at Student Led Conferences. Parents love to hear their Ss tell all about their learning, identifying goals, and telling about their progress towards reaching those goals. #ALedchat

A1: As a HS teacher it is often difficult to get parents involved. My only tip is texting. I’ve found that this helps with a record of contact. #Aledchat
It is the small, free, quick things that can often have the deepest impact on overall school culture and community perception. Never discount the importance of a smile, a wave, and a "Good Morning, y'all". #ALedchat

A2: At the elem level, we see lots of diff tech tools..plickers and clickers, iPads,.. Teachers are loving the Swivl for recording with ease. #ALedchat
A2: I love my Ipad Pro and MacBook Pro; both of these tools bring a whole new level of productivity to my day. A bit on the pricey side, but definitely a great investment in efficiency and productivity. #ALedchat
A2: Chromebooks and Ipads are great to see in an elementary classroom. I love to see students creating video clips to explain and defend their reasoning. #ALedchat#UMedTech#EDL577UM

A3: Our local banks partner with us to recognize student achievement at the elem level...Student of the Month, Most Improved, Sight Word Heroes, All As,... Recognitions include newspaper, drawings, breakfast, shirts, ... #ALedchat
A3 Wuthout a doubt, there are so many that impact education in @FlorenceK12 that I would miss one of I tried to name them all but one that has been a cornerstone for almost a decade has been @Southwire#12ForLife#aledchat
A3: We have several key partners; one that has really stepped up for @EdgewoodElem and @PTOedgewood is Taco Mama in Edgewood! They are always hosting Edgewood Night Out and providing other means of support. #ALedchat
A3: Our amazing counselor @9garrett3 organizes a college and career fair for Ss. This allows for many community partnerships to reach our Ss. #ALedchat
A3: Our community is actively involved in partnering with our school. Local restaurants assist in fundraising, our students complete projects on interest rates and building equity with local banks, etc. #aledchat#UMedTech#EDL577UM

A3: We partner with the local police department and the local fire department. We have policeman and fireman presence in our school daily. We are blessed to have this community partnership and value their commitment to our students. #ALedchat
A3. This school year, I have been working to bring our local native corporation into the school. This week they have brought a former olympian into town to teach cross country skiing to some of our middle school students! #aledchat
A3: Our local community college partners with our high school and makes a huge impact on our students! Twice monthly visits to help with financial and college applications. Scholarships awarded each year. They’re terrific! @FloridaGateway#ALedchat
a4: Hands down, the @EdgewoodElem@PTOedgewood Spring Festival is our largest! It is HUGE! We have a great time and raise a ton of money to use in classrooms across campus. Our Ts are VERY blessed by this. We also do Art Night and Talent Show to raise funds #ALedchat
A4: Each our our field day is our largest school fundraiser. Our foundation also hosts an annual Winterboro Drawdown that continues to grow each year thanks to the hard work of everyone. #ALedchat
A5: Our admin team began Finding Your True North just last week. I have worked through the study before & found great insight into who I am as a leader. Excited for the opportunity to read/work through it again. #ALedchat
A5: The Tipping Point (Malcolm Gladwell), Developing the Leader Within You (John Maxwell), and Good to Great (Jim Collins) are my top three favorites. #ALedchat

A7: We have the "Best Me" Challenge @EdgewoodElem It is our PBIS program that recognizes students for 6 Best Me traits: Take risks, Celebrate Each Other, Use words carefully, Be responsible, Care for others, Have Fun #ALedchat
A7: I am involved in what my students do. I attend their extracurriculars and develop relationships. So, I’m able to tap into their interests and integrate it into my lessons. If I care, I’ve found they usually do too! #aledchat#UMedTech#EDL577UM
A7: Having Ts develop authentic engaging lessons. We have Ts constantly issuing #exceptional cards. Positive Office referrals. Lunch on the Lawn, free dress days (we have a dress code)..to name a few. #ALedchat

A8- by recognizing them when they do great things in their classrooms! Teachers are like students they want to know when they are doing great thing! Also it is about connecting with them and letting them know they are valued and are important to the process! #ALedchat
A8: The Science teachers in my department have a GroupMe called “The Nerd Herd.” We send each other memes, encouraging words, check on each other if someone is ill, etc...We do this even through the summer! Simply showing up for one another! #aledchat#UMedTech#edl577um

FA: Faculty/Staff "Shout-out Board" is a great way for adults 2 recognize other adults in the building. All you need is a bulletin board, slips of paper, and jeans passes. Each week, admin draw the shout-outs that have been written& the names drawn get a jeans pass; #ALedchat

FA- look into guest speakers! One thing I suggest is take time to leave a hand written note to a teacher that is doing great things at your school. I have found this to transformational in boosting staff morale! #ALedchat
