Please share some influential #educators that you follow for #professionallearning Are there any chats that you recommend? Share with #AOBEdChat tonight. Be sure to follow one another to help grow your #PLN & to allow for further collaboration once our chat ends.
Hi Everyone- Denise Ball serving education for over 24 yes. & 8 yrs as a principal. Current principal at @StAugustineElem for @ArchbaltSchools#AobEdChat my favorite thing about holiday is taking time to pause, reflect and rejoice❤️
Hi-- Meghan Brunt and I teach first grade at @StAugustineElem . One of my favorite things about the holidays is spending time with family and friends #AOBEdChat
A1 - One of my favorite collaborative projects is a cross-curricular Science, Math and Engineering project designing and building roller coasters by MS students. We then invited third-grade students to test and critique our coasters so we could improve the designs.#AOBEdChat
Hi, #AOBedChat! I’m Denise from @archstl. I teach Middle School Math & Science, and this is my 18th year in Catholic education! :) My favorite thing about the holidays is the chance to SLOW DOWN & are-energize!
A1/ Facebook group from college of alumni involved in evangelization whether in a parish or school has been my best collaboration. Resource sharing, asking for prayers, getting ideas on how to deal with difficult situations @FranciscanU#AOBedchat
#AOBEdChat A1: Making sure you take quality time to meet, brainstorm and plan is vital to successful collaboration. This requires effort by all involved.
Hi 👋 Amy from @StAugustineElem This year is my 11th in education....8th as K teacher. My favorite thing about the holidays is spending time w/my parents in southwest VA 😀#AOBedchat
A1: My FAVORITE way to collaborate is via the Twitter, meeting other Catholic school Ts & sharing sites & resources. Great way to start is #CatholicEdChat on Saturday mornings, 9AM EST! #AOBedChat
A1: I enjoy unscripted free chat and sharing of best practices on topics that are pressing or relevant at the time. I also enjoy jumping into Twitter chats to learn from people around the globe 😉 #AobEdChat
A1: Great way to start collaboration is to ask fellow Ts in your building if you can just come in & watch them teach. You open the door to collaborative projects. #AOBedchat
A2: You can learn so much from pairing with people! From teaching approaches to differing knowledge or perspectives on the same topic. If you are lucky enough to have an instructional coach in your building, you have years of expertise & someone with TIME to help!
#AOBedchat
A2 - There are many benefits as a result of collaboration. Access to an expanded source of resources and instructional practices is at the top of my list. When we collaborate we step out of our “bubble” and our students benefit from the results.#AOBEdChat
A2: #Collaborating w/your colleagues allows you the opportunity to share ideas, learn new things. It also provides you the chance to know others share in some of the same challenges #AOBedchat
A1: Great way to start collaboration is to ask fellow Ts in your building if you can just come in & watch them teach. You open the door to collaborative projects. #AOBedchat
Hello! Karina Lepkowski; interim principal of Most Holy Trinity in Detroit. I’ve been teaching for #12 years #1 in admin. Fav thing of holidays....family #AOBEdChat
A2- Makes for a tighter, cohesive school, particularly when you reach out to other divisions, like specials. Also shows the Ss that problems are multidimensional and that skills learned in one class apply in another. #AoBEdChat
A1: Great way to start collaboration is to ask fellow Ts in your building if you can just come in & watch them teach. You open the door to collaborative projects. #AOBedchat
A2: I get so many tips and tricks from observing in colleagues classrooms and chatting about activities and lessons....from management strategies to new lesson ideas....it’s truly an endless PD opportunity 😀#AOBedchat
A1: In a previous diocese we had a great relationship with the diocesan high school where most of our students went. We could share resources and create a family bond between the two schools #AOBEdChat#collaborative#sotiknights
A2: Collaboration is the key to success-many voices producing better product and program. We cannot know all things. To maximize potential to meet & exceed mission, personal and professional goals-collaboration is ESSENTIAL✅ @AOBedchat#AobEdChat
A2- Makes for a tighter, cohesive school, particularly when you reach out to other divisions, like specials. Also shows the Ss that problems are multidimensional and that skills learned in one class apply in another. #AoBEdChat
A3 - The challenge is always time or the lack of it. Making time to meet, plan and create collaborative lessons is often difficult and limited by all the daily demands teachers are faced with.#AOBEdChat
A3: Challenges to #Collaboration in your own building are just sometimes finding the time or working to stretch out & engage w/other disciplines trying to find some common topics #AOBedchat
A2 Collaboration allows me to refine my lessons and make them more meaningful for my students. A conversation with a colleague can make a world of difference! #AoBEdChat
A3: Time is always a big challenge for me....having the time scheduled into my plans is not always easy but it’s the only way I can make sure it doesn’t slip to the back burner #AobEdChat
A1: I always look forward to collaborating with my colleagues @StAugustineElem at our specialized academic department meetings & informative staff meetings. Our Early Childhood Department Meetings are a great time for "neighboring" grade level collaboration. #AOBedChat
A3: We have had problems with common planning times during the school week. However our administration has built in common planning times for us this year so that we have a better opportunity to plan together. Thanks Mike @michaeltwright7#AobEdChat
A3: In other schools, common planning with GL colleagues has been a priority. Our schedule is not built that way, but I CAN hop into classes and chat/help/answer questions on the 5th period occasion. This would be a good way to use our IA when not booked elsewhere. #AOBedchat
A3: I know this will be said by others, but small school size is a major challenge. Fewer collaborators & teachers have no one who shares their role. #AOBedchat
A2/ We are not alone in our struggles. I love being a part of the Regional Dev team at AOB. We are all doing the same job in different territories. That teamwork is hard to find in a 1 track school which is why these chats are critical & attending PD to meet others #aobedchat
A3: I know this will be said by others, but small school size is a major challenge. Fewer collaborators & teachers have no one who shares their role. #AOBedchat
I agree. Time...and just getting out of your own box. Sometimes it may seem easier to stay in your own lane, but the benefits to collaboration are worth the effort. #AoBedchat#collaborative#sotiknights
A2: I always look forward to collaborating w/ my colleagues @StAugustineElem @ our specialized academic department meetings & informative staff meetings. Our Early Childhood Department Meetings are a great time for "neighboring" grade level collaboration. @aweatherSAS#AOBedChat
A4: Solutions to challenges faced w/#collaboration in our own buildings is by making the first move, make that outreach to colleagues & help them see the benefits of working together #AOBedchat
A4- Our Principal scheduled us combined planning time during the day. Also, On occasion, I have started projects and invited other teachers in on it. #AoBEdChat
A4: Our school uses a department chair model which allows provides more time for collaboration and meetings with colleagues. Our greatest resource is our dynamic team and the ability to share and learn from each other. @StAugustineElem@DBallWriter#AOBedchat
A4 - We have built-in time for teachers to meet with their grade mentors into the schedule. We are also encouraging teachers to collaborate by allocating time as possible for planning time with colleagues during faculty in-service days and morning meeting time.#AOBEdChat
A3/ Egos get in the way. Hunger for power and recognition. It takes humility to collaborate bc at some point you will be critiqued and challenged. Have you ever heard someone say, “No thanks. I’ll just do it myself.” #aobedchat 🙅🏻♀️
A4: Our school uses a department chair model which allows more time for collaboration and meetings with colleagues. Our greatest resource is our dynamic team and the ability to share and learn from each other. @StAugustineElem@DBallWriter#AOBedchat
A3: Single track format offers challenges to professional learning communities. However, creating department chairs2lead department meeting vertical discussion has been helpful in so many ways to enhance collaboration. @aweatherSAS@MrMillerSAS@suemackaysas@arvin5th#AoBEdChat
Q5: Let's consider #collaboration across classrooms/grade levels. What topics have you found that lead to needing and/or warranting collaboration? #AOBEdChat
A5: Writing and grammar! We have a great writing program that can be used laterally. We had 4th grade come visit for a writing field trip b/c they were doing a similar task. It was great! More of this should happen. #AOBedchat

I agree. Every subject needs a champion. However, sometimes it is a challenge to discuss new ideas with someone who teaches a much younger grade and is more focused on ELA or Math #AoBEdChat

We do too. Along with grade level teams.I am the Science Department chair and we meet at least monthly as a Department team to plan as a department. #AoBEdChat

A5: I think any & all topics are open for #Collaboration across grade levels & topics if we begin thinking outside the box. It requires us to be open to new ideas #AOBedchat
Every skill builds in a well-designed curriculum. I think the conversation about how you get from 2nd to 7th in math (or any subject) is a good one to have. #AOBedchat

Agree Tim- I have found dept. meetings have allowed for “a-ha” moments to occur in identifying gaps/redundancies and for developing appreciation for colleagues and their role in the big picture of educating the student. In one track- out-of-box flexibility is a must. #AoBEdChat

A5 - All subjects can lend themselves to collaboration with time to plan. We recently completed a successful cross-curricular Art & Science unit where the students designed & built complex machines inspired by prototype machines found in Da Vinci’s famous notebooks.#AOBEdChat
A5- Collaborating on formative assessments and assessing the data to address S needs. A student that struggles in one class in most likely struggling in others. #AoBEdChat
A5: I’m excited to begin a weekly math workshop with the fourth grade teacher to enhance math instruction and to find ways to make math hands on and fun! As an Algebra teacher, this age group is is out of my norm, but love the challenge!@StAugustineElem #growthmindset#AOBedchat
Q6: On a larger scale, have you gone outside the "global" walls of your classroom to #collaborate with other educators? How about students collaborating with other students/schools? #AOBEdChat
A4/ Nothing works better than a compliment. It puts a person at ease, gives them confidence, and opens the door to collaboration. Show respect and get respect. #aobedchat
A5: I think any & all topics are open for #Collaboration across grade levels & topics if we begin thinking outside the box. It requires us to be open to new ideas #AOBedchat
A5: the real-life issues which we cover in science can easily be spread across classes cross-curricularly. I worked on the Chesapeake Bay ecology lesson in 7th grade while the students were reading “The Red Kayak” in ELA while @SocStuTchr was going through gov issues #AoBEdChat

A5: During the year collaboration is great, but we can’t forget collaboration needed for transition between levels, “handing off” students from one grade to the next, where they are coming from and where they are going (curricular vertical alignment) #AOBEdChat#collaborative
A5: Life science standards in EC- we all love to teach the butterfly 😉 but we need to have the conversation to shake it up make it exciting for the students. The life cycle of the butterfly is good-once. Let’s add the frog etc. as well👍✅ #AobEdChat
Q5: Let's consider #collaboration across classrooms/grade levels. What topics have you found that lead to needing and/or warranting collaboration? #AOBEdChat
#AOBedchat Going globally is my thing! We have connected with @EmpaticoOrg and @Erick_G_Roa for virtual collaborations! Our students have met other students from Brazil, Mexico and Nigeria. So exciting.

A6 - The Discovery Education Network (DEN) is a powerful global group to collaborate with. I have been a member of the DEN for seven years and continue to learn from my peers on a daily basis. https://t.co/0oxq5uhpGD#AOBEdChat
A6- This is something I would love to do. Making sure the other teacher is on board as well as time differences affect a middle school schedule. Synchronous instruction can be a problem #AoBEdChat
Q7: Are you currently looking to virtually (or other ways) #collaborate with #educators and classrooms outside of your building and/or diocese/district? Please share! #AOBEdChat
Q6: On a larger scale, have you gone outside the "global" walls of your classroom to #collaborate with other educators? How about students collaborating with other students/schools? #AOBEdChat
A6: I've been fortunate to #collaborate outside the global walls by participating in #AOBedchat & #CatholicEdChat
Students today fully expect w/the readily accessible use of technology to have the chance to #collaborate globally #AOBedchat
That’s when I say, get #flipgridfever!!
Ss and Ts can send videos during their class time and others can respond when they meet on the other end. #WINWIN#AOBedchat

Parents like to know that teachers are working together for the benefit of their child. When teachers in a department work together the student wins because the talents of the teachers are shared. #AoBedchat
A6 - EdCamps and other professional development opportunities like those offered by the US Naval Academy STEM group are another way to connect collaborate and learn from peers. #AOBEdChat
A7: I am always looking to learn and grow personally and professionally. I enjoy the collaborative process. Life is a short journey & we are called to maximize our potential. Let’s chat🤗 This #AobEdChat is a great venue- I am thrilled to be a part of the conversation.
Q7: Are you currently looking to virtually (or other ways) #collaborate with #educators and classrooms outside of your building and/or diocese/district? Please share! #AOBEdChat
Absolutely! I am always looking for ways to collaborate with teachers from around the AoB and elsewhere. I always like to see how other teachers are teaching the same topics I cover. This could better me professionally as a teacher #AobEdChat
A7/ of course! I often said I wished I was still in school to have the opportunity to collaborate more...but then Twitter came into being!!!! #AoBedchat
