A1: I teach K, so most of my assessments are done one-on-one using manipulatives , oral responses, and checklists. We do have some digital tools we use to collect data (redbird, iread, fastbridge)! #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard A2
Still predominantly paper & pencil or Study Island which isn't very progressive. I'd love more authentic assessments! Trying to use @Seesaw to do portfolio assessments.
A1 We have both at our school. Some teachers are incorporating digital and creative assessments, while others tend to stick with paper pencil. #fcsvanguard
A1: We’ve got a wide range at Hooch. I think our teachers do a good job of mixing up traditional pen and paper with choice assessments, PBLs, and digital assessments. Gotta sane that paper, am I right? #fcsvanguard
A2:This is always at the forefront for me with choice assessments in particular. Letting kids research, create, collaborate digitally is so dang effective. #fcsvanguard
A1 I know the 3rd - 5th grade teachers are using digital assessments as a way to get the students more prepared for GA Milestones. 1st-2nd grade, I believe they may use them very little #fcsvanguard
A2: teachers have used technology to provide students with different opportunities for assessment such as using chatterpix in 1st grade to describe Ben Franklin #fcsvanguard
A2 it’s gotta be for collaboration. Teach kids how to work as a team under a little pressure and you’re teaching them a life skill and a standard #fcsvanguard
A2: for the most part, I use technology to monitor progress and informally assess. Looking for suggestions on how to do this with littles!!#fcsvanguard
A2: I want & need to incorporate more choice and freedom of expression in my assessments. Brand new teammates on grade level & a vacant position, so paper and pencil is the default/comfort zone. May need to go rogue on the noncommon assessments. #fcsvanguard
Ahh used the wrong #! A1- I use mostly paper pencil. I feel like the county drives this for summatives. I use seesaw for formative checks! #fcsvanguard
A2 I use Padlet for short assessments like exit tickets. I also like to use Google forms for assessments. Sometimes, I link the assessments in our class Edmodo. #fcsvanguard
I love the new activities Feature on seesaw and I designate according to need for formative assessments. We have 8ipads students can use them through rotations. #fcsvanguard
A3: I feel like a broken record BUT @onenoteedu is the best and most efficient tool I’ve found for my kids on their Surface tablets for all. the. things. I also use @socrative for quick digital exit slips. #fcsvanguard
A3: as a writing teacher, I find that google docs has given me the opportunity to help my students embrace the whole writing process. It makes writing a conversation between author, peers, and teacher #fcsvanguard
A1: We have a variety of ways, paper/pencil and digital. Just had a SplashPad session at school helping teachers explore new tools @mcmahank#fcsvanguard
A2. By staying up to date with various options available to me, understanding the strengths of each technology, and using this knowledge to adequately select the technology/platform that will meet the assessment needs of my students. #fcsvanguard
Comments via @Seesaw & @Padlet
Kids get authentic feedback from me, peers, parents & admin. Leaving constructive, positive, specific feedback is a great learning activity for all! #fcsvanguard
A4: Data from formative assessments helps me group students, reteach concepts, move ahead if everyone is good to go. It’s also great for showing kids how they’ve grown since that data sits online for later access. #fcsvanguard
A3: teachers use google classroom, google forms, and mostly @Seesaw for formative feedback! @Seesaw lets other stakeholders provide feedback as well! #fcsvanguard
A4: we have tons of county provided tools to collect data!! Redbird, iread, fastbridge... these tools hold up in data meetings and SST meetings. #fcsvanguard
A4: I’ve observed several teachers who use google forms to compile data on student responses. It’s a formative assessment in the moment that t’s can use to evaluate now or later #fcsvanguard
A4: I still use zipgrade for quick, easy data-gathering in the middle of a lesson to help me identify kids who need a little extra help and those that can move on. #fcsvanguard
A1: Out of the classroom right now, but ALL my kids do at their school are paper/pencil tests. Assessment looks just like it did when I was in ES. #notcool#fcsvanguard
A2: I'm not designing my own right now, but I love supporting Ts and Ss with meaningful @nearpod assessments. Formative data helps make such a difference for instruction! #fcsvanguard
A2: Teachers are trying to create digital assessments to simulate the format of high stakes tests. Teachers are also working toward creative assessments like @seesaw activities #fcsvanguard
A4 on Quia and Google forms you can see most frequently missed questions. Being able to see what they are missing is most important to me. I’m awesome but I can’t read Ss minds! #fcsvangaurd
A4: I used to despise the word data b/c it never seemed to be used effectively. But when it is, it can make ALL the difference. @FarhatAhmad1 should comment on that one! #fcsvanguard
A4
I like that @GetKahoot downloads data right into @googledrive ! I just wish the timed nature didn't make some of my kiddos react quickly & inaccurately.
#fcsvanguard
A4: We have google sheets to collect and monitor data... easy to share with each other through county account and easy to track progress of T2 and T3 students #fcsvanguard
A5: If students have demonstrated proficiency of a standard, let them extend their learning through passion project using tech. Options could include virtual field trips, etc. #fcsvanguard
A5: We enhance student learning by allowing them to be part of the assessment. I hope we can learn to put proficiency scales in the children's hands and not just on the teacher's desk. #fcsvanguard
A6: Lots of new things all at once can be overwhelming. We gotta use our coaching ninja powers to encourage and help where we can so it’s not so scary to try something new. #fcsvanguard
A4- #fcsvanguard@agrippasmock I like to use Padlet for formative or informal assessments or data collection on content—its easy to see who is responding and what they are understanding or not. I also love @Seesaw
A6: Encourage a growth midset and start crucial conversations.
Model, model, model! Find a way to develop a relationship with the teacher to build trust. #fcsvanguard
A5. We must continually apply the result we get from the technology and check that the technology being used is accurately assessing students. #fcsvanguard
A6: I really think that teachers are so frustrated with how distracted students are by their personal tech, so they don’t want to give useful tech a chance #fcsvanguard
A6: Ts are scared of new things, think that it's easier to do it the way they know how. I think the key is in how easy to grade and analyze it can be! Help them see tech as a time saver not time waster #fcsvanguard
A6: I think they just don’t have time to get their hands on things and dive in to learn how to do things. As mentors, we need to show them how to work smarter, not harder! #fcsvanguard
A6: I think they want that paper pencil copy to keep up with. 🤦🏻♀️ so many teachers still print something out just to “file it away” even though it’s easier to find and locate on the computer!!
A1- #fcsvanguard Assessments are 50/50- we are using projects or performance assessments but also digital forms of data collection & assessments through county programs and/or school choices for assessments. I also think it depends on the grade level and the abilities of students
A6 there is so much technology out there is can be overwhelming and just another thing on our to do list. As Vanguard members we can support by leading by example. #fcsvanguard
A6: I think some Ts are hesitant b/c they have not exposed, been properly trained, or coached on how tech tools can be used to enhance assessments and give Ss another way to report out #fcsvanguard
A6 I think a lot of teachers are feeling overwhelmed with all the new initiatives that are constantly put on their plates. Paper pencil assessments are a constant and familiar. #fcsvanguard
A6: some are hesitant because they’re unfamiliar. Sharing resources, modeling, & sharing own hardships and successes can bring people onboard #fcsvanguard
A6: Tech by default does a great job assessing lower level thinking. We have to model how to use tech to collect rich learning experiences and then use rubrics to alongside children for authentic feedback. #fcsvanguard
Sometimes people get comfortable, but by having someone take the time to walk them through the benefits for both Ts & Ss, most Ts will be open to learning. #fcsvanguard
A6: some are hesitant because they’re unfamiliar. Sharing resources, modeling, & sharing own hardships and successes can bring people onboard #fcsvanguard
A2- @agrippasmock#fcsvanguard I would love to have some other ideas about this for K-2 kiddos. Designing assessments with digital content can be tricky when talking about students that might not know how to use programs and it takes time to teach the program before you can test
A7: not in classroom... but I love a good google form for open ended data to analyze. Also... if it's anonymous people will give brutally honest feedback that can help me grow! #truthhurts#fcsvanguard
Haha! I know everyone still loves a good Kahoot! I am a fan of @plickers for quick formative checks or diagnostic assessments. @Nearpod is my go to for indepth formative checks! #fcsvanguard
I agree @ylime723. Getting feedback after giving PD only helps the facilitator model an open mind and a willingness to improve. Whether it is a google or microsoft form, it gets the job done.
#fcsvanguard
A7: Any program where students can go back and edit their previous tasks. I want our feedback to give them opportunity to revisit and improve. What tools make that possible? #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard A6- Lack of time to learn new programs/APPs possibly. We can provide more “APPy hours” and just make them open once a month for those that can come. We have been thinking of ways to implement through our team at our school. Hopefully just to offer a couple of options
A6 I believe modeling and giving opportunities for teachers to practice will help them to be more comfortable with implementing new tech tools.#fcsvanguard
@Seesaw#fcsvanguard@plickers I would love to use these more in my classroom. I have a set— need to find ways to use them and support my coachees to try something like this. I would love more ideas. I think for little kids Kahoot is a good one but I am sure there are more.

A8: When I plan for technology, technology plots against me. LIke, wifi goes out or 1/2 the kids’ tablets are dead. Always have a contingency plan - even with copy paper shortage panic :) #fcsvanguard

A8: I guess the biggest fear is are we assessing learning or are we assessing the proficiency with the tech tool? Ts have to be careful to separate the two skills (like output when typing vs. writing by hand) #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard A1 in first grade, I find it more effective to have different types (verbal, pencil, digital, creative, etc...) of assessment that allow me to look at the whole student and not look through only one narrow lens
A8: I think a few of the huge hurdles are exposure, training/coaching, amount of technology in the building, and TIME to PLAN. When Ts have an opportunity to collaborate and plan effectively on ways to improve assessing Ss win! #fcsvanguard
A5 Technology can be used to enhance student learning through collaboration ( i.e. Safari Montage, Padlet, etc) and assess student learning in real time #fcsvanguard

A8: hate to say it, but it’s the faulty WiFi and bloat that is installed on devices. Students hate them bc they are slow, clunky, and not dependable. Hard to use them when it takes the whole pd for updates! #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard Q8 making sure assessment is authentic and moves learning ahead, that it’s not just following a trend for the sake of having technology in the class
