Being a "connected educator" is important, but it exists on many levels. A #PLN is a wonderful asset but connecting w/ others at conferences, workshops, trainings, & your own building/district is also immensely valuable. Find connections that work for you and run with them! #tlap
💚💖💙🧡💚💖💙🧡

Q1 The Beatles walked away from a successful & lucrative path of public performance in order to become more innovative. What new path did you forge this past year to create a masterpiece for your school or classroom? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A1: I moved away from maintaining control over creativity in the classroom and handed over the reigns to my students. I also started to collect feedback from the students on units and suggestions for my own growth. I also encouraged student reflection on their own growth. #tlap
A1 Great question! This year we took a STEM challenge (Mars Rover) and went off route by incorporating passion based projects as we discovered that learners had an intense curiosity of all things space. Still did challenge, but found ways to empower choice & learning, too. #tlap
A1: I'm working with my admin team to update our welcome for this fall. I've also started voxer book studies for staff and a for please staff book club. #tlap
A1 My year was all about lighting the fire for all of my Ts by modeling what I wanted our Ss to see. Next year, I hope that I can continue that flame with my support staff! #tlap#thepeppereffect
Q1 The Beatles walked away from a successful & lucrative path of public performance in order to become more innovative. What new path did you forge this past year to create a masterpiece for your school or classroom? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A1b: Then I walked away from my role as a school counselor after 22 years with 34 years total in education, so I could launch my encore career in mentoring, speaking, consulting, coaching and writing. Eeeeek. Super excited and scared simultaneously. #tlap
A1 I redesigned my room which in turn made me redesign my teaching! Loved every part of it, even the frustration! Learned a ton about myself, this role, my purpose, my students! #tlap
A1. This year, I embraced the ideas of my Ss in STEM, with some of our activities to lead the way in their interests! I also tried to incorporate real life problems for them to solve with skills they have learned! #tlap
A1: For me it was creating my website to share my voice in ways beyond my blog. To create a space where my Ss and Ps could find comfort and knowledge. It then inspired my Ss to create their own and this was epic! #tlap#Nan3EDUhttps://t.co/aWGcbv0bxO
I found the same effect from #tlap. It also helped me realize that me enthusiasm was a strength to celebrate instead of feeling like I would be made fun of. I feel like @burgessdave empowered me through his book to work to be the teacher my soul wants me to be!
A1 - I connected my stand alone robotics unit to incorporate a sustainability challenge.. the kids loved it, and I've already tweaked the planning to make it a full blown PBL unit next year #tlap

Check out #tlap. Educators are sharing their masterpieces this year which include classroom transformations, rising to the challenge of a new role in education, and creating experiences in the classroom.
A2: Collaboration and getting involved. My work in #robotedu worked when Ss were will to get involve and make mistakes along with me. For co-workers its about willing to jump in together and learn along the way. #tlap
A1: I made sure to brighten up the hallways and the stairwells with some of my work but not sure how they would take it. Students loved it, maintenance supv. ...not so much #whocares#tlap
#tlap A1: Since I will be turning 50 this next year, I have decided to completely change how I teach. I will use the flipped-classroom model, stations, and Genius Hour Fridays for my ELA classes.
A1 correction...I meant my curric is aligned to a path of awareness > advocacy > action...my cat is on my lap making typing and thinking tough, lol. #tlap
I gave my students a voice this year about what they wanted as takeaways from the curriculum in addition to what I was required to teach. I also gave up control of my classroom environment and let students choose how they wanted the room to look. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A1: I dove into #community#collaboration head on! Fitness & dance classes, #KindnessCapes , designing a #kindergarten Burger of the Month w/ a local restaurant & even a surprise bridal shower planned by 5 & 6 year olds provided us all with incredible experiences this year! #tlap
Jon from Irvine jumping in late! A1: Interdiciplinary classroom arrangements that can be leveraged for better collaboration between departments. We want to create truly interdisciplinary student work. Social Studies with Math and World Language with Language Arts etc...#tlap
Q1 The Beatles walked away from a successful & lucrative path of public performance in order to become more innovative. What new path did you forge this past year to create a masterpiece for your school or classroom? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A1: Mine is more a major work in progress. I read Lead w Culture and am finishing an admin class at GCU tomorrow on School Culture. I would love to really make some positive, amazing changes. #tlap
Q1 The Beatles walked away from a successful & lucrative path of public performance in order to become more innovative. What new path did you forge this past year to create a masterpiece for your school or classroom? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
Let's take a look at the first question. You can use A1 when answering. :-)
Q1. How did gun violence locally and around the country affect the climate in your local schools this year?
(Please retweet and help spread the word we are here.)
#SavingLivesChat
A2 I think all I can do is be genuinely passionate at supportive of those who aren’t there, yet. Model positivity and commitment to what’s best for all involved. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A2) ATTITUDE!! Forging a new path? Sometimes, a smile and never give up attitude is contagious! Even if you stumble, a setback is a setup for a comeback! Build relationships so others will follow you bc they WANT you to succeed. #tlap
A2 constantly being positive and always modeling. Have an open ear for Ts and Ss alike, building the relationships w all stakeholders and being present. #tlap#thepeppereffect
A2: I remind them daily that their voice matters NOW, at age 12, instead of 21. They need to realize that their hopes and dreams have value and do not have to wait until they have a degree or are gainfully employed. #tlap
A2 Right now I am prepping and training teachers for 1:1 integration next year. It is awesome to answer all their questions, making @Youtube videos, and generally thinking about the best way to roll this out. It helps to have a vision moving forward and working together. #tlap
A2 I don’t own the vision, we created it together w much discussion. Now it is up to myself and others to constantly speak of the vision and align our actions to it. #tlap
A2) I show my fellow teachers that other ways work. I let them know what comic I'm using or project Ss are doing and invite them in. I model for my colleagues. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A2: People believe in things they help create...invite Ss and Ts to help create the vision. It becomes OUR vision rather than a battle to get buy-in. #tlap#ThePepperEffect#Path2Serendipity
A2 It starts from owning who you are & spreading JOY around you. Listen, acknowledge, greet, model, and make every interaction worth it. #ThePepperEffect#tlap
A2: I try to keep a positive attitude about everything and encourage others to do the same. Also, creating a team mentality helps as we work toward a common goal. #tlap
I had a TON of game mechanics any chance I got: mini boss battles, dice battles, challenges, chance cards. There was a points leaderboard for completing side quests and challenges. #tlap
A1:Ancestor Adventure-Ss dug into their family histories, chose 1 ancestor to study not born in USA. Ss added 15 yrs to their current age & over the year we mocked 8 simulations where they were adults, researched ancestor countries of origin,& travel planned visits overseas! #tlap
A2: I think I convey my visions for what school should be by showing how fervent I am about hands-on learning. I am known as the T who strives to do at least 75 science investigations annually... and a risk-taker. I "ditched the book" 5 years ago and will never look back! #tlap
A2: Inspiring my Ss is easy...I just talk with them, ask questions, get answers, get opinions, and value them. This gets tremendous buy-in. Ts have full-plates and it's sometimes difficult to get them to see the vision. However, I start small and share honestly my progress #tlap
A2 For Ss- All year we work toward our students "Make A Difference Expo". Ss choose a topic of importance to them and find a way to make a difference. Their voice matters. #tlap
A1: I purchased 3 Tower Gardens and 4 additional outdoor gardens for our school. We now have a group of teachers who will be using the gardens (both indoor and out) to create meaningful learning experiences for their Ss. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A2: I try to take risks and not fear the unknown. Then, I share what I do for others to see and hopefully use in some way. I also love to invite people into my room to personally experience our craziness firsthand! #tlap
A2: Our roles reversed and our students and staff were the ones dreaming and creating the vision. The model is genius and it changed our culture. We have staff more excited about the schoolhouse than ever before. A renewed passion! #tlap#thepeppereffect
A2: By making the vision REAL to them. Showing them how that vision will translate into a better school for both students and staff, and reminding them that true vision doesn't live in a frame on the wall. It is lived through our actions. #tlap
A2 Create excitement, enthusiasm and engagement for Ts and those that come in to visit the school. Nothing like hearing that the school is so welcoming to those that don't work there each day! Be authentic! Be Passionate! #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A2: We are still working on that with interdisciplinary classroom arrangements, but our teams need to set their goals with interdisciplinary projects in mind. My team will try to have at least one cross curricular project with each department this year. #tlap
A1: In the classroom, I invited my 7th & 8th graders to blog and to use Twitter for history projects. Simulated profiles of key historical figures, these simulated profiles tweeting-out during major #Canadian moments in #History#tlap@smgaillard
Q1 The Beatles walked away from a successful & lucrative path of public performance in order to become more innovative. What new path did you forge this past year to create a masterpiece for your school or classroom? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
This is challenging. But I have to be the example, to change the culture of my school by showing positivity, kindness, stamina. I dress up & make the kids smile #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A2: I try to inspire Ss & colleagues to believe in the vision of our school by keeping in mind “what’s best for kids”.
I also try to send positive energy. I want to be sunshine for others. When I walk past, I want people to sing, “Here Comes The Sun!”☀️ #ThePepperEffect#TLAP
A2: I'm learning that inspiration directly correlates to involvement. If students and colleagues are involved in creating the vision, they are more likely to be inspired by it. #tlap
#tlap I found on my practicum that collaboration was key! I refused to isolate myself. I learned from my mistakes and took feedback onboard wish gave the Ss and myself and more positive experience. #ThePepperEffect
#tlap A2: I show them what can be done. I don't sit around and talk about it; I go out and do it. For example, for The Odyssey, my Ss designed a toy, wrote a description, and pitched their ideas to a group. The winning design was 3-D printed. STEM can be in an ELA classroom.
A2: This is huge! It is my responsibility to inspire parents and students through my positivity and passion that my school and classroom is all about making every child reach their highest potential. We all want best for the child. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A2: I give them a voice and choice in the classroom. They know that their voice matters because I take their feedback and use it. We can't just say that their voice matters and not give them the opportunity to exercise it. We have to stand behind our words. #tlap
Right back at you. I am currently rewriting my curriculum to instill #teachsdgs and add more options for my students. I feel it is really important to use the UNSDGs as a framework for research and projects. #tlap
It is ... did some research on this for my Masters and what @TeacherGaming is doing goes along with what I learned ... how kids learn while they are playing the game ... #tlap

A1: I set the goal to be a more positive person for myself & others & really feel like I accomplished that. Being more positive helped me to take more risks like blogging, participating & even moderating twitter chats, @ stepping out of my comfort zone. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
#Tlap A2. We are doing a book study as a staff on the book Culturize. @casas_jimmy . We are implementing AVID and more growth mindset with the students.
A2: Choosing joy. Is everyday perfect? NO WAY! But with a positive mindset you can conquer many of those challenges. And as you conquer them people will see it and want to replicate it. It’s one of the ways I got mine. #tlap@ERobbPrincipal@burgessdave@_on11@moler3031
A2. As a leader, I try very hard to make sure everyone knows our Vision and Mission. We keep it simple...Soaring For Excellence
By focusing on Commitment, Collaboration & Community Everything we do is articulated through these 3 Cs #tlap
A2: You walk the walk and talk the talk and show them what's possible. You become an agent of change and provide support during the process. You help make the transitioning go as smoothly as possible. You help people overcome the fear of change. #tlap
A2: We bond from day one... our entire Nan Family is built on trust. We share in stories along with things that are important to us. We spend the time to create a home within our space. We Are Family! ♥️ #tlap#Nan3EDU
A2: And... another thing is showing how much I LOVE my students... just by loving them. When they step through my door at the beginning of the school year, they become extended family. Other Ts can see when a T cares about the overall feel of the classroom. #tlap
A2: People have to feel involved, be given choices, feel empowered to make it "their" place. Finding a way to forge new, positive paths, while breaking away from past negatives that pull them down. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A1: I actually quit my teaching job to start working at the Innovative Tech Unit in the Ministry of Education - so I can reach more Ts and Ss (I'm from Israel, and yes, I allow Harry Potter jokes) #TLAP
A2: Choosing joy. Is everyday perfect? NO WAY! But with a positive mindset you can conquer many of those challenges. And as you conquer them people will see it and want to replicate it. It’s one of the ways I got mine. #tlap@ERobbPrincipal@burgessdave@_on11@moler3031
A2: We gave our vision statement to our Policies Committee to see if it needs updating. Work w others to collaborate activities that line up with the vision. You have to know what is & work to stay close to it, otherwise it is easy to forget, changing the entire vision. #tlap
A2: Modeling how passionately I believe in what we do in words & actions is like a ripple effect which does inspire others to believe in what we do to - this goes for Ss & peers. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
Yes! I celebrate being the goofy, jolly teacher who manages to hook in students who tell me at the start of the year that history is their least favorite subject! #tlap
A2: I need to first understand what my students and colleagues value individually. Then, I can relate and apply those values to the values of he school. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A2☮️
L = Look for gifts of colleagues
I = Invite colleagues to share
S = Strategize a plan to build & do something wonderful
T = Take a risk & commit to do something bold/creative
E = Enjoy the process of collaborating/camaraderie
N = Now make it happen!
#TLAP#ThePepperEffect
So many ways to incorporate and address them as well...Looking at doing 1st semester 20% geared toward empathy, with community improvement or SDG projects, then 2nd semester removing restrictions and let them have total choice. #tlap
A2: since I taught SS I taught civic engagement and taught students how their voice matters. I wanted them to understand the power of their voice #tlap
A1: I had a vision for creating an in-class flip model. I started by creating cloze notes for math instruction. From here, I screencasted myself feeling out the notes. Took a while, but it was such a big hit with students/parents! https://t.co/5EAZFgAmKa#tlap#thepeppereffect
A2: I sought feedback from Teacher Leaders and Building Planning Team to determine our focus. We will be focusing on Social and Emotional Learning. Listening and seeking feedback. We will also do 2 or 3 “Edcamp” like faculty meetings too #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A2: Show them that you are willing not just to lead but to walk alongside them. It’s about collaborating, reflecting & making decisions together. You lap hbe to be passionate about what you re doing, otherwise why should they? #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A2 Never miss an opportunity to greet, welcome, or dap up a colleague or Ss and let them know you appreciate who they are and what they bring...in the tough days, that will shine through and inspire #tlap
Kids deserve more than a teacher who is always thinking about Friday night plans on Monday morning. Our students deserve teachers that will make an impact and help them love learning! #tlap@burgessdave@ERobbPrincipal

agreed, I have parents who tell me after the first quarter that they cannot believe their child loves history and science. They never liked it before! #tlap
A2: When we listen to them, truly listen, we will hear them telling us how to hook them in, how to love them well, how to keep them safe. Their words of wisdom will serve as a success formula for the character building. #tlap
A3 'it can't be done' or 'this is how it's always been done' are words from those who are scared. Nothing is off the table even when it doesn't work #tlap
A2: I inspire my students and colleagues to believe in the vision by believing in them! We were all made for GREATNESS, and I truly believe this. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A3: Step out of your box, share even the smallest idea/concept, because usually it is something that can go from a spark to a full fire with the right enthusiasm-lead by example, and encourage each other!! #TLAP
A2. I encourage Ss to go for their dreams! They know I believe in them, but they must first believe in themselves, in order to gain the confidence to fly! Our Ss have incredible ideas, they need to experiment and try things out! Don't be afraid of change! #tlap

A3: Keep telling your story...You never know who might be ready to listen. There's always people who don't know about what you're ready to offer. #tlap
Yeah it’s always funny how when I ask them to go into more depth with their response they are always saying that my class is fun. Imagine... let the students be a part of the learning and all the sudden it becomes fun... wow who would have thought? ;) #tlap
A3: My advice to coworkers it to just do it! I have a good friend who is always trying new things and always says when things don't go the right way, "Well, nobody got hurt, so I'm ok!" #tlap
A3. When teachers are in it for the right reasons, it’s so easy to help them channel that energy into their vision. Support for risk-taking, encouragement to try new things, and resources (time) to accomplish their goals have the most impact. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3 - DIY. No one is going to make your project happen but you. Too many times we have great ideas for curriculum or a tool that other teachers can use and we (myself included) only get as far as sharing it verbally. Set your goals and get it done. #ThePepperEffect#tlap
I have 6th graders so we must start with awareness of self and others, then the issue of voice - how van we advocate for self and others, to action, what can we do to support of ourselves and others? #tlap
A2: I don't know how to make others believe in my vision. I think if I continue to work towards making my vision a reality in my own personal capacity, I will hopefully inspire others to follow along and see the big picture. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
Attiya from Florida!
A3 Keep moving forward positively! Connect with a great #PLN, read to inspire yourself, and believe in what you do. . . the passion make it's way out! #tlap#thepeppereffect
A2: By living our mission statement everyday and being true to our motto that EVERYONE MATTERS! Every member of our band is important and valued! #tlap
A3: Don't lose sight of the reason you began this teaching journey. Most of us wanted to change the world, and we are--although some days it may not feel like it. #tlap
A2: It’s all about relationships, relationships, relationships. Always start with the “why” and build collaborative consensus. Lead by example with trust, transparency and empathy. #tlap
A1: I forged a new path by revamping my semester long #gamified Amazing Race experience for Ss and globally connecting classes with amazing educators like @bmilla84 and @MrsCford_tweets.
It was MAGICAL!✨💫 #tlap
A2 Change is hard. Things that have always been done a certain way are hard to think about differently. Doesn't stop me from sharing "another one of my brilliant ideas" - Blair, Facts of Life. #tlap
I agree about struggling, @burgessdave and @stevewyborney. I had to take some very deep breaths this past yr when I did a new sci. investigation. I risked "failing" and "making a fool of myself". However, I succeeded and demonstrated the power of perseverance to my Ss! #tlap

Rich Hayzler, MS Principal from NJ and this week's #DBCChallenge winner (YES!!) jumping in a little late to the #tlap party! Summer song is "Whatever It Takes" by Imagine Dragons. Pumps me up!
A3: Do what's best for you and your S's. Try something new even if you have no idea how it's going to work out. Be transparent with the kids, they will love being a part of it! #tlap#ThePepperEffect
#Tlap A3. I know this is weird but I keep forwarding tweets to my principal and other teachers from my chats so they are fully aware of my encouragement.
A2:Build relationships, help others see their value/contribution, be a great listener, follow thru on your word- THEN they will trust and believe the vision (provided it is inclusive to begin with AND they know the why) #tlap
A3: My advice is to find a mentor. You may be assigned one, but I suggest finding another one outside your content area who you can go to and who can encourage you. Mine is @WDoerwaldt. I would not have survived my first year without him. #tlap
A3: You are the average of the five people that you spend the most time with. Make sure you surround yourself with the people that fuel your passion and lift you up, not ones that bring you down. #tlap
A3: watch your negative self-talk and the inhibiting effects it has on your self-worth! Treat yourself with the kindness and compassion you offer others! #tlap
A3: Remain positive and seek out other educators that share in your vision. Surround yourself with others that push you to be your best. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
#tlap A3: What works for someone else may not work for you, but be fearless. Try something new, and if it doesn't work, reflect about it, tweak it, and try again. Never give up!
A3- FAIL early, FAIL often. Learn with Ss, be open with other Ts. Always be willing to try whatever is best for kids. Be genuine & honest- question everything, seek answers. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: I want to help other educators stir up the gift that is in them by pointing them to look within rather than looking around in comparison. Their gift is not mine. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: The dragons of fear and self-doubt are VERY real for many...but you can become a DRAGONSLAYER and fulfill your dreams...create your vision. I wrote about it here: https://t.co/IDhP1Hlqcb#tlap#REALedu
That framework is so important. It is also important to scaffold researching and publishing techniques. Annotated Bibs -> Lit Reviews -> Arguments -> Action Project. That way students understand expertise plays a role in how people react to an idea. #tlap
A3: Be true to yourself and stick with your vision. Be sure to set milestones for yourself. Reflect on those milestones to track your progress. “A dream becomes a goal when action is taken towards its achievement.” – Bo Bennet #tlap#thepeppereffect
A3 Be yourself. If you are bored, than your students are too! Find a way to take the most boring thing in the world and make it fun and engaging. I had to do that for understanding mean, median, and mode. All my math T's thanked me for covering it so well! #tlap
A3: I wrote this for my younger school counselor self, but it transfers well to other passionate edu-heroes!
BE where your feet are and savor every second of your symphony.
https://t.co/QLlfGrchTi#tlap
A3 Instead of asking for someone else to make it happen, inform people you're making it happen. Then go for it. If you go for it, it'll happen. It will actually happen. You can overcome obstacles, venture beyond limits. #tlap#unlimitedteacher
A3: I encourage them through support, resources and a focus on moving out of pockets of innovation! If it is transforming a few-why not all! #tlap#thepeppereffect
A3 Know why your masterpiece possesses such beauty for its creator and the beholders and communicate that to the art dealers, and even the window shoppers! Be able to justify the why and the how of your plan, idea, lesson, activity, etc. #tlap
A3: Having my own masterpiece to believe in and share vulnerably is the only way that I can think of to encourage others to believe in their own. If we can walk the walk, then our talk will have more credibility and believability.#MotivationThroughModeling#TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A3: Never underestimate the power of your own story! It is the story of others that creates the bond that we each need to thrive. Never be afraid to share yours... we need you.. you will impact! #tlap#Nan3EDU
A3: Our online course for Dig Cit was an innovative way to get the content across in a cost effective manner and support their developmental needs as new digital users. Can’t just hand out laptops and hope they use them appropriately. #ThePepperEffect#tlap
I was thinking similarly. I had principal once tell me "you do what you do. Others will see success and want to join in. If they don't, then that's my problem, not yours." 😊 #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: If you are passionate and love what you are doing, it will begin to infect everyone around you, from the students to teachers and administrators. Positivity and passion will lead you to success, and then others will come around. Happiness is contagious. #tlap
Last year, I worked with a 5th grade class to make PSAs based on SDGs, using @adobespark ...Kids worked in groups and picked their goal....Project specs needs work, but it was very worthwhile to expose them to some truths out there. #tlap

I love that you not just take the feedback, but then use it. We need to empower voice and help learners to grasp that this is their classroom, and that knowing what works for them helps us to create better experiences. #tlap
A3: Believe and proceed. If you have a vision go for it. If you fail, dust yourself off and try a new way. Be innovative and your students will appreciate you for it. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: It's important to think positive, have goal and work every day for it. Make sure that the people around you support you and have your back. Lastly, connect with people, your #PLN will rock your world! #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: I love to hear about what others are doing. I would look for ways to promote and support them in continuing to step out of their comfort zone. #tlap
A3: Always provide an environment that encourages risk taking and growth. Encourage failing forward and celebrate every step of the way! And then just be a cheerleader! Everyone loves having someone in their corner! #tlap
#tlap The mentor teacher told me not to be afraid to experiment! and try new things! A Ss said " Ask what we want to learn or need too, and be yourself." That was the clincher! and a motivator.
A3. Remember why you chose this profession...the kids! If it's right for the kids, it's right. Don't let other negative colleagues drag you down and keep moving forward #tlap
A3: Don't chase the "pigeons". They are only good for flying away at the last minute and pooping on you. Find "eagles" that truly value who you are and what you believe in. They are the ones that will carry you to the finish line when your strength is gone. #tlap
A3: Don't give up on it! When you find something you are passionate about, take a risk and follow through. Even if it fails, your kids are better off because you ventured away from the same old same old! #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: You have a specialty that only you have mastered. Let your light shine for all to see! There is someone out there who needs to see and hear your masterpiece - get out there and create the showcase! #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: Find & surround yourself with people who will motivate, inspire, challenge & celebrate with you. Find the people who will appreciate you for who you are and not be intimated by your innovative thinking. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A3 Just go for it, if there is something you want to learn, or teach the kids try it. What's the worst thing that could happen? Model risk taking 😀 #tlap
A3: Take deep breaths, make sure you have demonstrated to your Ss that failing is a powerful part of the learning experience, take risks, and celebrate the moments that are successes... as well as positively reflect on the moments that weren't. #tlap
A1: I let go of some control and and some redundantly scheduled activities that I've been doing for the past 13 years of my teaching career. Started giving more voice to my students. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
Q1 The Beatles walked away from a successful & lucrative path of public performance in order to become more innovative. What new path did you forge this past year to create a masterpiece for your school or classroom? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3 - develop and rely on advice from your PLN.. they will give you the support you need to leap forward.. baby steps are great but great success comes from diving in head first - they will encourage you, celebrate your victories, and help you up if you fall #tlap
A3 I don't want to be 80 and say, "I wish I had surfed that one day when I had a chance but I was afraid of sharks." Don't be afraid of "maybe sharks" #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: Remember how important it is to have people willing to try to make the world better. You may fail, but so what! In the end you will grow from the process and be that much more prepared for the next time you need to make a difference. #tlap
A3: Take deep breaths, make sure you have demonstrated to your Ss that failing is a powerful part of the learning experience, take risks, and celebrate the moments that are successes... as well as positively reflect on the moments that aren't. #tlap
A3: There is power in being vulnerable. It is what breeds connection and allows us to relate to one another. Asking important questions like “how can I help?” And being courageous enough to say “I don’t know” allow us to show vulnerability and encourage it in others. #tlap
Oh yes: research skills, evaluating credibility, reliability, & accuracy of sources, understanding context, etc are key skills for understanding how our past impacts our present, who is represented in history, who is not, etc. Do you know @SHEG_Stanford ? I love their work. #tlap

A3: Be YOU! AND Have a rockstar folder. Save notes, emails, cards, pictures from kids, whatever makes you smile! When you are having an off or rocky day...visit that rockstar folder to remind yourself the impact you have on #ThePepperEffect#tlap
I love that, @tamaraletter. I know in science class, I cannot fully "toss out the tables", but I am VERY willing to lend more space to my 5th grade science students (and MS Tech members) so they know my room is an inviting "canvas" for them. #tlap

A1: I followed the PIRATE Principle! Passion Everyday, Immersed myself in learning, built Rapport, Asked and Analyzed, Tranformed learning and was Enthusiastic Every Day! A Pirate's life for me! #tlap
A4: I make sure to shout out all the great things going on in our school every day. I recognize and thank Teachers for going the extra mile. I know that we can't do it with everyone rowing in the same direction #tlap
No need to read the book on that one...thinking and dreaming big for where you see students going beyond the classroom and collaborating with colleagues. The vision is the dream. #tlap#hopethathelps
A4: In my role, the best way to show belief was to step back and let others step up. One way we accomplished that goal is by implementing teacher-led staff meetings during our book study. #tlap
A4: I show belief by trying out their suggestions and praising the suggestions when they work beautifully--then finding something positive about the experience when they bomb! #tlap
A4 We like to leave little appreciation notes/cards and occasional surprise gifts. Our team rocks. Also love to blast fun pictures of our team on our grade FB/Twitter page so families can see the strength and bond we have. In it together! #tlap
A3: I agreed to cancel the May Faculty meeting if everyone participated in 2 Learning Walks. I believed in teachers learning from other teachers. I shared our learning in ASCD NY! https://t.co/BSSikPvZok? #tlap#ThePepperEffect

A4) The same way they show belief in me: text messages, Voxer messages, Twitter messages, email messages, phone calls, cards, notes, letters, and the best of all, connecting in person! #tlap
A4: With gals like @Grade3WI and @yassinisara , it is easy because they come from a place of having students first and foremost in mind! Listen, learn from them, spend time with them, let them suck you in to their awesomeness and ignite your passion!! #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A4: By asking for partnership & feedback, we send the message of belief. I’m going to miss planning many great #CelebrateMonday events with @theodore_lauren#TLAP
A4 I trust them and don’t over analyze their role/contribution. Try not to be obsessed w control, although I may be too good at that. @scriddle22 and @ChristineZirges did a great job organizing PD. @TechieTcher was the boss when it came to Pi Camp! #tlap
A4 By sharing positive feedback & asking questions, we show our belief in our colleagues & collaborators. I recall a time that I told another T how impressed I was with the way she spoke about a difficult situation w one her Ss. Her face lit up & I think I made her day! #tlap
A3: I did not grow up the most self-confident person, and I've always feared failure while being overshadowed at times by perfectionism. However, I've had to trust in letting my "freak flag" fly. My unconventional philosophies and unique perspectives are a part of my fiber. #tlap
No I did not, but I do now. Thanks for the tip. It so vitally important to teach students how to make a difference, but they need to understand how their work should operate in a professional community. #tlap#ThePepperEffect

Oh then I got this! My guiding questions for students are "Why?" "Why not" and "What are you gonna do about it?" Why limit kids to the classroom and in the box thinking...boring and artificial. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A4: Being open to letting others in my room and giving them the opportunity to share their gifts. A huge shoutout to our school psych and her amazing SEL centers she brought to life in my room. #tlap
YES! I was helping students with an AVID tutorial on the salivary glands. I am not a science teacher, so I had to use what I knew. We rewrote the song "Celebration" with key vocabulary in the lyrics to help them review. "Salivate! Good times, c'mon!" #TLAP#ThePepperEffect

#tlap A4: @DewinterAmber, now, my colleague, but, one of my former Ss years ago. We have a vision for where education should go, and we are building it one idea at a time. It's time to think like there is no box and reimagine where education could be.
#tlap A4 My mentor teacher showed belief in me by letting me try new things, and not being scared of failure. Take the feedback on board get back on the bike and ride again! #ThePepperEffect

A4: I make sure that we have FUN team building, I send thank you notes, I send out positive quotes (I need to be more regular), we celebrate our successes! School is nothing without the amazing staff around me. #tlap#thepeppereffect
Learning Walks have changed our school and improved collaboration across all content areas. People loved seeing a music teacher, Spanish class or a member of their department. The admin team and I agreed to co-teach in any class. Collaboration works! #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A4: I had to take risks in having educators (outside our school) and HS Ss judge my MS Tech Club kids at our competition this year. I expanded my PLN locally, in real life, with Mr. Barlow, Mr. Wald, a dad who is an architect, a dad who works with plastics/prosthetics, etc. #tlap

Q5: When The Beatles recorded "Sgt. Pepper" album, some critics negatively expressed that the band was on decline. How you persevere through the naysayers? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A4: Surcees and notes in person, shout outs in person and on social media, Badges, just saying Thank you! I have to say thanks to my Twitter #PLN for all the sharing & ideas I've gotten w/out anyone expecting something in return. #tlap
A4: My collaborators are my greatest teammates. Bouncing ideas off one another, listening to one another, collaborating with one another and challenging each other to grow and to learn. We are there to pick each other up when we fail, and celebrate when we succeed! #TLAP
A4: Ask for their feedback, listen to them, encourage them and cheer them on. If they suggest trying something new, give it a try! Tell them when they have hit a home run with a lesson or sparked an idea in you. #tlap
A4: Be flexible and open to changes. Also remember that compromising doesn’t mean you have to settle. Advocate for what you believe but don’t shut out or down what others think or believe. Even if it is different from you. Ask questions & listen! #ThePepperEffect#tlap
That's ok, here's the short version---believe in what you inspire and create for others in the schoolhouse or classroom. Hope that helps, my friend! #ThePepperEffect#tlap
A4: Always modeling that it should never be about "GOTCHA" between admin and teachers...always "I've got you'" We're on the same team for sure! #tlap#LeadLAP
A5 put the 'noise cancelling headphones' on. the naysayers are the ones perpetuating the status quo...and, according to my intro GIF, I am a status quo buster #tlap
#tlap A5 there will always be people who want to believe that. You are in the decline so they feel better about themselves. Stay the course, do your best and let that speak for you!
A4: Listen, observe and watch the magic that is our school. We get the positives out as much as humanly possible. Praise for days. Showcase the teachers and students. #tlap
A4:I show belief in my tribe by telling them, texting them, writing them a card, leaving a #PositivePostIt or by simply being there. The best you can do for someone to show you care is being there for them. I can always count on @MsGalyensClass to be there. #ThePepperEffect#TLAP
A5 I demonstrate vulnerability by being transparent, share my vision/goals, embrace me, and continue to model what I believe in. Relentless dedication is powerful! #tlap
A5: In one of my dad’s sermons, he talked about how naysayers and critics will always be present when doing the right thing. I try to find joy in the naysayers, because it helps me see that I am seeking a right path. #tlap
A4: I love popping into a peers room to give a smile,a thumbs up,a wink,a random happy dance,a note in their mailbox,or a surprise sticky note on their door to just say hi, I'm here for ya, I've got your back, I'm so glad we work together, I believe in ya! #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A5: Surround yourself with positivity and ignore the naysayers. Naysayers exist everywhere, but positive people also do. Seek out others that share your vision and never give up. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
Q5: When The Beatles recorded "Sgt. Pepper" album, some critics negatively expressed that the band was on decline. How you persevere through the naysayers? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: Don't give up on your vision. If you stay positive, things have a peculiar way of working out for people who do not quit. Just keep swimming! #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A4: So... I also recognize the awesomeness of my collaborators by telling my Ss about what they have accomplished with their Ss. I tell them, humbly, that I VERY much look up to them because of the scope of what they have achieved and that I am excited to learn from them. #tlap
A5 - By being my own naysayer. I try to think about my projects with a critical lens and be the naysayer up front to check issues and make sure that it is the best project it can be. If people are critical it is easier because I already look my projects through that lens. #tlap
Q5: Stick with like minded people who share your passion, continue to try to engage those who aren't involved/negative, and try to value their input in the process, but continue along to involve all who support what you are doing #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
#Tlap A5. A long time ago I followed some great advice and surrounded myself with a crew that would be a sounding board and a focus of positivity. @ReganLR@WendyMcQuilkin@tjada1@mallystrad
A5: Those will always be around. You have to stick to a positive mindset, put a smile on and see how it changes the world! Even when you feel you can't, it's best to "fake it, 'til you make it!" #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A3: Find & surround yourself with people who will motivate, inspire, challenge & celebrate with you. Find the people who will appreciate you for who you are and not be intimated by your innovative thinking. #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
#tlap A5: Take your vision, put it into action, document what happened, reflect, and share with other Ts what happened. It's time to change the direction of education one idea at a time.
A5: Many times when you're an outside the box teacher, you find yourself on the other side of the tracks with the naysayers wagging their tongues. If you have the vision, planned the vision, and are dedicated to your vision, your Ss deserve to benefit from that vision. #tlap
A5. Don't succumb to the negativity. Instead of criticizing colleagues for their views, show them how the changes you are making in your classroom are positively impacting your students and their learning. #tlap
Q5: When The Beatles recorded "Sgt. Pepper" album, some critics negatively expressed that the band was on decline. How you persevere through the naysayers? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A5: Whenever I'm faced with people that say it can't be done, I just try to remember all the times that they've been wrong. Being a rebel at heart, I love proving people wrong. :) #tlap
Serious q: weren’t George & Ringo bored and unhappy w the intense studio time for Sgt Pepper because it became an “assembly process” instead of playing like a band? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
#tlap Firstly, as my mentor teacher said " believe in yourself so others will belief in you." Allow the naysayers into your classroom to see the impacts would be a great start! Continue to be positive and adaptable and true to oneself. #ThePepperEffect
A4
💚💖💙🧡💚💖💙🧡
As the Beatles song goes, "I get by with a little help from my friends." I am so thankful for the #TLAP and #XPLAP Crews! 💖 all of you!

A5 depends on group.
T 2 T cont sharing. DONT shut your door. Every S derserves a great school experience and we need to bring others up w us. Prin to T, build on small wins, provide support (in words, time, PD and resources). To Ps-showcase the learning. Explain benefits #tlap
A4: Our ITRT Team is INCREDIBLE! We share everything, inspire always, and constantly encourage along the way. I’m starting my 11th year with this team & I’m just as excited as I was the first year! Our team ROCKS! #tlap#ThePepperEffect#hcpspln
Q5: When The Beatles recorded "Sgt. Pepper" album, some critics negatively expressed that the band was on decline. How you persevere through the naysayers? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A5: This is why I am here tonight. I need a counterbalance for the pushback and doubt that comes from people that do not appreciate or understand innovation. I go to Twitter to refill my bucket and not feel like an outsider. #tlap
Q5: When The Beatles recorded "Sgt. Pepper" album, some critics negatively expressed that the band was on decline. How you persevere through the naysayers? #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A5 Surround yourself by those who have shown belief. Use negative as a push to succeed. If still in doubt I keep coffee & chocolate on hand and they can make me smile. Haha. #tlap
A4: Acknowkedging and appreciating their work, singing the praises of those who serve our children well. Shout outs in newsletters and emails. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
A5: People have been like that my entire life. Individuals get jealous when others achieve success. Sometimes, people do not want to exert the effort, or they feel they pale in comparison in spite of accomplishments. I have learned to focus on what matters-- my Ss' journey. #tlap
A5. Fortunately, I discovered Twitter & my PLN helps me through such times! Sadly, society is full of naysayers. I remind myself that if teachers don't persevere, we'd have a world with no teachers. That would be terrible! Our world needs teachers! #tlap
A5: There is always someone who will say it can't be done. I don't let people steal my joy. I tell myself they are not me. If I'm passionate about something, I have the drive to follow through. I'm not afraid to fail & I usually tell them it is worth a try! #TLAP#ThePepperEffect
A5: Oh Boy! I work so hard to prove them wrong! It has made me better, stronger, more resilient...because my energy went into my work rather than into a power struggle! It taught me that there is always room for improvement, not perfection. #tlap
A4: I invite equal collaboration and delegation. Last year, I decided to try to let go of needing to do everything “my way” and genuinely listen to what colleagues brought to the PLC and other collaborative PD teams. I have learned SO much from these two:@craigccollins@mrsvruiz
I prepare a thank you card for each member of my staff at the start of each semester. Name on the envelope and card ready to go. Then I get to work giving them away. Everyone is included, and I have a visual reminder daily on my desk. #tlap#ThePepperEffect
