Happy Friday ! What are your favorite ways to incorporate music into your classroom?

I don't know why it took me so long but I had an epiphany. T is like parenting. Neither is easy if you are doing it right.

Goog morning all - wow, a full 5 day school week and I'm exhausted
On my weekly quiz we always analyzed a poem. Often id throw in the lyrics to a popular song at the time.
It was long, but good. I have no idea how to mystery skype & haven't done research on it to find out.
I love low level mood music, turning things into corny jingles, and using music to encourage movement

Music is great for transition, energizer, lyrical lessons, hooks for an anticipatory set, helps with ambiance and sets the tone/pace

I like to play jazz instrumentals or classical music in the background while Ss are writing or working.
Lots of rain here in southwestern Ontario too.
I play music some mornings when kids come in... usually clean pop music. I play instrumental music when they write sometimes.
ahhhh is right! I love when that happens - authors who engage knock my sox off
When we need a stress break, I make them sing Zumba!

Also, often I would make the kids use the weeks vocab words to add a verse to a popular song and it had to match the theme.

When I had a class, we used "me moves" or other yoga for kids programs which incorporate soothing music. We also did Wii dance!

I like to introduce books, themes with music. Mordred's Lullaby is haunting & a great hook for shared reading of I Am Mordred
Use music to focus or create songs to help Ss remember things. Mostly as a background tool and a way to connect
It's great. My kids loved it and now we will have new friends to communicate with this year!

Also created playlist of oldies (80's don't seem that old) that's played during group work. Oldies are apropos for a history class.

Music is a great attention signal. Also, a great way to transition back to class from lunch or recess to settle into routine
I tried 1812 Overture in my class while they were doing Maths. Got a little distracting

Movement breaks, sometimes I sing instructions, I'm thinking of playing it while they make today.

I have used THX sound effect to allow groups to know that by end its time to be quiet to receive more instructions

Always during quiet writing. And my choice is classical.
Music in the classroom should be a complement and not a distraction. Its use should be purposeful to the class' goals.
