We introduced the one-to-one initiative two years ago. Student's assignments and materials are all available online at this point through either the use of Schoology or Google Classroom. Devices and technology provide daily access to videos, slides, info, etc. #APChat
A1: It’s definitely a difference of push vs. pull. Info used to be “pushed” to ppl. Our students, the digital natives, “pull” their learning. They don’t wait for info to get to them; they seek out info on their own. #apchat
A1: Much of their lives are happening online in digital social spaces. This calls for us to partner with them in learning not just digital citizenship, but digital leadership. #APChat
A1: A big part of teaching and interacting digital natives is valuing the digital world that they live in while still teaching them the skill of code switching which will allow them to interact and thrive even outside of a digital environment. #APChat
Agreed, we can't value who they are without valuing where they are at. In education, the best learning happens when it is mutual learning with both the teachers and the students. #APChat
PD is provided throughout the year for new skill development. A Technology Integration Specialist was appointed to train and teach educators to use new technology in their classrooms and offices. Faculty Council allows for feedback on issues relating to tech. #APChat
A2: We have a tech integration specialist that leads staff pd as well as works 1:1 with teachers. We also have staff members that are tech rock stars that are go to people for other teachers. Colleague to colleague training is very powerful #APChat
A3: Some of my students are excellent sources of tech support! One showed me how to take a screen shot the other day... Our students are more up-to-date than most adults on the latest tech. They should be empowered to share their skills and knowledge in class #APChat
A3: My students love to help me/explain various facets of technology and social media. Not only do I learn from it, they also feel proud that they are teaching their assistant principal. I can then in turn share what I have learned with others. #APChat
Q4: While many students are digital natives, their understanding of using tech to learn is limited. What strategies have you implemented to support digital learning, not just socializing? #APChat
A4: Classes travel to the media center where lessons are given by both the Media Specialists and Technology Integration Specialist. Using their devices and technology for research and learning will be crucial for life during and after school #APChat
A4: In my office, I've used the web to explore postsecondary planning tools like Naviance and College Board with my students. They often just want the answers and don't know how to find them. These sessions are important to develop ownership over their future success #APChat
A5: Our district will hold net safety classes for parents. These are taught by our SROs and are powerful. Many parents are simply not aware of all of the access that are Ss have at their fingertips. It is important that our parents are empowered to support their children. #APChat
A5: I have encouraged parents to find opportunities for students to unplug. With 1-to-1, students are now plugged-in all day. There needs to be a balance. Helping their children to find that balance is important. #APChat
