The intern who took care of me in the ER was a former student. He gave me the best compliment ever. He said,"I didn't like reading, until you were my teacher." I said I bet you say that to all your teachers that come to the ER. #Grateful#TLAP

A1: We are celebrating tomorrow because we are off on Wednesday but we are doing a readers theater of How I Became A Pirate on the morning announcements #tlap
A1: I’m excited to celebrate Talk Like a ☠️ Day early by doing a #globalcollaboration read aloud tomorrow w/ @JayBilly2!! Can’t wait to hang out with JFB!! #tlap
A1: BEsides greeting every child off the bus in Pirate attire and talking like a pirate and eventually losing my voice as I do a read aloud to @bmilla84 class ... Hmmmm #PirateALLthetime#tlap
A1: Costume or props, of course! We tie it into writing and are learning how to HOOK the readers. Ss stand on the plank and share. We give 'em an 'ARRRGH!' if they hook us. #tlap
A2: Not school wide this year, but in library we have all of our pirate books on display and will be reading them all week with at least my first graders - maybe more! Lots of pirate names and talk of course! #tlap
Tara from Kansas!
ONE of my fave PIRATE moments was having Kaleb present with me in SD and meet the PIRATE himself! He loved it!!
He set a personal record aka did NOT look at his phone for 2 hours during Dave's keynote! That's huge for a 17-year-old. ;)
#tlap
I plan on hiding a couple of toy crocodiles around my room (repping Captain Hook, of course). The little friends that find them win a piratey surprise! #tlap
Kristi - World Geo T from North Dakota. Does it count if I had an impromptu flash mob of Ss join me in the hallway last week when I finally mastered the #floss? 🙌🏻 #tlap
#tlap I HAVE to do Pirate day when I'm a teacher :) But for right now, does standing up to my teacher and being a rebel count? I have this thing with bringing my laptop to class-I don't like it. I think I can still learn without my laptop.
“Guest Speaker” costume hook to introduce The Outsiders. Such a fun day and the kids are so excited to begin reading tomorrow! #tlap#ItWasAlsoPictureDay
Hey #tlap! I’m Emily from Texas, and I’m hoping in late! My fav pirate moment has been dressing as a character from a book and theme-ing all of the lessons/activities for the day to match the book plot!
A1: Eye patches are ordered, books in hand, Cafe has a treasure of a lunch for all, and my class will be sharing the day with our very own special friend Mr. Pirate himself @burgessdave ☠️ #tlap#Nan3EDU#LittleVikingEDU
A1: I felt a little defeated today about stuff other than school. But instead of being sad, I painted my nails pink at my desk this morning, and in the middle of 1st Period decided, "WE'RE MAKING RICE KRISPIE TREATS TOMORROW!!! That turned my day around!! #tlap
A1 Sadly I won't be around to celebrate for most of the days but plan to send a Tuesday night reminder to have fun and release their inner pirate and then circulate Wed AM to hear great #tlap ideas and encourage risk taking
A2 "P" is for participating. Whether you are a teacher, student, or admin, we need to always be participating in each other's learning. Learning isn't a one way deal. #tlap
A1: As a pre service teacher it is hard to incorporate things like this into my life but im excited to hear about everything people do to get ideas about my future classroom #tlap
A2: If I had to change "Passion" to a different "P", I would choose "Persevere". There are days for both students and teachers when times get tough, much like lacking passion or enthusiasm. But with perseverance, teachers are always striving to the better #tlap
We don't even have school Wednesday but I figure I can celebrate the days around it - library is always a bit more flexible! (Like with #dotday which can last two weeks with our schedule!) #tlap
A2: I still have the original 3-ring binder notebook the I used to make #tlap and it has all of the possibilities I considered for the letters!!! P could have been many things...one of the contenders was Purpose, for example
A1: I’m taking a personal day on Wednesday, but I’m incorporating it on Thursday! Kiddos are presenting their writing in their best pirate voice and focusing on how a pirate author would use “voice” elements to create or electrify a story! #TLAP
A2: Perserverance. This is something we must teach our students and we must demonstrate day in and day out in our instruction. It is our responsibility and our privilege to reach every child, and that takes time, relationship building, and hard work. #tlap#betheone
A2: Pizza/Piece of.
Both would do.
Pizza because pizza is amazing.
Piece of because learning is made of many little pieces of a puzzle that fit together. The thought, the background, the daily mood, etc. Learning is influenced by all of the pieces. #tlap
A2 P would be for personal relationships. I've been reminded a few times this week that knowing your ss is the first step to behavior management. #tlap
A2. Ahoy mate's we have a whole bunch of books on sharks! From huge posters on the wall displaying these creatures, 3d posters, and many incredible books for reading in our library! #tlap
A2: Perseverance. I am always up for a challenge and enjoy seeing things through. I enjoy pushing the status quo and seeing where it takes me and my school. Plus, I am a cancer survivor. 8 years and going strong! #tlap
I’m going to create a new item for my in-class game that will enable a player to require another team to talk like a Pirate for the rest of the day. #tlap
A3: My personal “P” would be positive. That doesn’t mean I ignore the negative, it just means I choose to focus on finding solutions and moving forward. There’s so much good to celebrate, if we look for it. #tlap
A2: My P in PIRATE stands for Perspectives. As a Social Studies teacher we teach kids how citizens manage multiple perspectives and as a person I seek understanding of the perspectives of others in order to serve better. #tlap
A2: "P is for Push" Greatness is achieved through that strong push. We push our students to achieve greatness, and they (plus more people) push us to achieve our own. #tlap
A2: Gotta go with the passion. #Passionprojects, passion for learning, passion for teaching, passion for play, passion for football, passion for pink and glitter, passion for each and every thing I do. #tlap
A2: P for Perspective! As a class (and staff), we’re working on being empathetic and kind—keeping problems in perspective or changing perspectives helps us towards those goals! #TLAP
A2 Bringing the tough questions! How do you argue with the most important element of being a Pirate?!?
Hmm....Positivity because it’s essential—part of passion, builds community, builds relationships, leads to all great things #tlap
Head’s up to you math folks (or anyone interested, really)- there is a new account (@ksmathed) with a math focus for all K-12 teachers of math. Follow the account and hashtag #ksmathed for math chats and other math ed news. #ksedchat
A2: I'd make P >>> "Pre"
- Everything that happens is because of the before.
- The planning, the prep, the patience.
- Take care of the Pre, and the Post will take care of itself!
#tlap
A2: Answer #2: Practice. If you want to be good at anything, you have to practice. Kids don't get that at times, so it's important to focus on PRACTICE. #tlap
Hey everyone 🌎🌍🌏! We've got a surprise for you...
This fall we're hosting our first ever #FormativeSummit - a FREE, virtual conference where you can learn great teaching ideas from thought leaders in education!
Register NOW & secure your spot: https://t.co/jAzkwWLyv4
P is for people! Know the folks you are working with and get them involved in the process of learning. When I know the teachers I am working with, I can better serve them. #tlap
A2- Positive... I try to approach each day with Positivity and spread that feeling with everthing that I do... Who doesn't want to be positive and spread some sunshine! #tlap
A2: This question made me think of Mr. Poppers Penguins and the character who talks in all P words because so many came to mind ;) persevere is my favorite P word. Just keep swimming. Face fears and get it done. #tlap
A2 P is for Possibilities. So happy to address every day, every class with a fresh start, growing and stretching, stumbling and getting back up together. Showing our students what that looks like. #tlap
A2: "P" for Pride. We live in a world where people hide all their amazing strengths. For teachers, we need to take pride in what we are teaching so our students can take pride in what they are learning. #tlap
A2: P for Perspective! As a class (and staff), we’re working on being empathetic and kind—keeping problems in perspective or changing perspectives helps us towards those goals! #TLAP
A2: I would be lying to myself if I didn’t say “P” is for Physics. It’s my goal to have my learners pause & think about the physics in the world around them #tlap
#tlap A2. This may sound boring but Planning. It takes courage and communication and a whole lot of Twitter to plan a lesson that incorporates the Pirate.
Hey #tlap, while we are chatting... if you or a T you know has been impacted by Hurricane Florence and needs support, #122edchat#champforkids & #waledchat want to help. Our chats will be sponsoring schools and T's. They just need fill out the form https://t.co/cJGTVbmmvY
A2: P is for Parents this year! To connect and bring them into the Process! We must have doors wide open and allow for collaboration that Propels our students and their families forward! #tlap#Nan3EDU#LittleVikingEDU
A2: Oh, I get it. Not passion! P is for Pontificate - I love to pontificate on anything about education. I could go on and on about greatness and learning and equity and ..... everything #tlap
A2: trying to top all the amazing answers I see! How about Puzzle (sorry if someone said that too - I'm way behind in my tweet deck column!) We piece together all of our different Ss needs and successes, figure out what we are missing & add to it #tlap
A2: perspective. It all comes down to this. We become better by broadening our perspective. Ss become better when they see multiple perspectives. #tlap
A1: our whole school is participating in Talk Like a Pirate but we are Reading Like a Pirate! All of our students and staff can dress like a Pirate! It’s going be a great day!!! @DonnaBledsoe14 is steering our ship! #tlap
A2 My "P" would be Push - because I am always pushing myself to be more helpful, more organized, be a better educator, support my department better, just #bebetter (that's for you @trjhs_principal ) #tlap
A3: I can't get past the I in @burgessdave's PIRATE, lol... My face turns red every time!
I think mine would be Ignite... I want to ignite passion, energy, and positivity in my Ss and anyone I meet. #tlap
A3: Integrity is my I. I strive to be everything I say I am. Integrity creates trust, trust creates safety, safety creates risk taking, risk taking creates better communities. #tlap
A3: my word would be individuality because each student and each teacher brings their own flare and personality and its okay to put their own individual spin on each lesson or project. #tlap
A3: introspective. Self reflection and mindfulness have completely transformed not only the way I interact with students, but also my relationships with colleagues as well. #tlap
#tlap. A3. I could stand for involvement. Including the students teacher administration parents community. All coming together to create great experiences in learning.
A3: I is for innovate, instruction, investigate, interpersonal, introspection, and internalize... I think these are important to teaching and learning... #TLAP
Day 8: Used shoes from my closet to teach ways to choose books. Caught some students showing acts of kindness. Introduced first song in math. Ss reported loving subjects they didn't love before. What could be better? #TLAP#LearnLAP#KidsDeserveIt
Q3: Having the principal come in and announce Ss would have to start paying for the school supplies they were using was a fabulous way to introduce the the causes of the American Revolution. They started thinking like a colonist quick! #TLAP
A3: My “I” would be INCLUSIVE. We are so much better together. When we collaborate, when we include each other, when we hear all voices, schools get better. Everyone matters. #tlap
A3 Hmm.... the first word that popped in my head was intense but I think the most important word (outside immersion) is INTENTNESS (its in Wooden’s Pyramid of Success)...being intentional is key. #tlap
Taking a chapter from #LimitlessSchool, but I’ll say Impressions. It matters how you treat people, and making a positive impression sticks with people. #tlap
A3: Integrity is my I. I strive to be everything I say I am. Integrity creates trust, trust creates safety, safety creates risk taking, risk taking creates, innovation and that plus empathy creates better communities. #tlap
A3: If I were to change the "I", I would change it to "Invest". Invest your time, energy, and ideas into your students, classroom, and career. Invest yourself in hopes for students to invest themselves into your teaching. #tlap
A3 I would stand for inspired. Reaching kids who willing do the assignments with a tempered excitement because they are so motivated is really what the job is about. #tlap
A3: “I” is for island because sometimes people look at you like you are on the island by yourself- but when they see your pirate like ways sometimes they join you. #tlap
A1: our whole school is participating in Talk Like a Pirate but we are Reading Like a Pirate! All of our students and staff can dress like a Pirate! It’s going be a great day!!! @DonnaBledsoe14 is steering our ship! #tlap
A3: My personal "I" would be INNOVATION... students who think differently, outside the box will come up with new ideas and solutions to our problems. #tlap
A3: I=Initiative! I want to create the intrinsic need to be imaginative and interested in the world, to invent solutions to problems, and to keep preservering even if it seems impossible! I want to do this with all my kiddos, everyday, forever! #theIshaveit#TLAP
A3 INNOVATIVE... I work to create new ideas that are creative and include excitement and keeps the students on their toes, they never know what will happen in Room 104. #tlap
A3. Imagination= We all need to use our imagination to be creative, in expressing our ideas, sharing and collaborating together, asking questions to dig deeper into subject matter! #tlap
A3 "I" for "In tune." We have to be in tune with ourselves and each other to celebrate, collaborate and appreciate in the Schoolhouse. In Tuneness also promotes connection to others along with empathy. #tlap
A3: INSPIRE! I chose that word because it encompasses so much of me! I am constantly looking to be inspired, wanting to always inspire my students, and hope to give back and inspire others in some way. #tlap
A2: P in my classroom stands for productivity. I am all about maximizing learning and using the little class time we have to facilitate #studentsuccess through structure and #studentengagement. #tlap
A3: #INTENSE. Be intense when it comes to your passion for educating. Give it your all! Your intensity should make the kids excited & encourage others to follow your lead! #tlap
A3: I would be for "Intentional" Everything we do in regards to student learning and teacher development should have a purpose and be intended to improve our schools. #tlap
Q4 You guys are rocking the Personalized PIRATE!
According to @burgessdave, the R in PIRATE represents "Rapport."
What "R" might you add that embraces the PIRATE spirit? Why?
#tlap
A3: Initiate. “A process or action to begin” initiate the struggle. Allow yourself to begin even when it’s hard. Show Ss you are willing to take on a challenge and embrace the “failure” but show up and initiate the process. #tlap
Getting here late because I'm working on my "Pirate Moment" - creating a evil villain for my gamified class "Lord Darkmore"! An "I" for me might be INTRIGUE and getting kids exciting about things to come #tlap#xplap
A3 I also have to add another idea for "I" by taking one of the four riffs from #ThePepperEffect: #IgnoretheNaysayers. We cannot let negativity define us or impede the beat we are creating. #tlap
Okay so apparently I am now needin gto write about 437 variations of #tlap after seeing these amazing answers!! I feel a tweet curation blog post coming!! What say you, @TaraMartinEDU ????
I is for imagined, because it's our vocabulary word for our week! I also may have imagined that my quinoa oatmeal was a donut this am. I am trying! #tlap
Play, plan, and productive! Play is a young childs "work" for creation of knowledge. May we all play...in our own way and keep creating knowledge. #tlap
A3: "I" for Innovate. Effective T's work to find and create new ideas to make their classroom more engaging and help students to learn this. It can be a life changing skill to acquire! #tlap
A3: I is for innovate! I looked it up tonight and it means upheaval, change or breakthrough. I want to help teachers make changes in their classrooms to have breakthroughs with their students and learning. #tlap
A3: My “I” is definitely IMAGINE... imagining better is what takes me on my journey. I imagine a better me and better ways for those around me! Imaging a better tomorrow for all! #Nan3EDU#TLAP
Q4 You guys are rocking the Personalized PIRATE!
According to @burgessdave, the R in PIRATE represents "Rapport."
What "R" might you add that embraces the PIRATE spirit? Why?
#tlap
Q4 You guys are rocking the Personalized PIRATE!
According to @burgessdave, the R in PIRATE represents "Rapport."
What "R" might you add that embraces the PIRATE spirit? Why?
#tlap
A4: Relentless OR Resilient... I need two R's! Be relentless in doing what's best for Ss and be resilient when others knock you down. Get back up and keep going. #tlap
A4: Rugged Individualism (combining that “R” and “l”) because we need to model standing up for what is right and teaching our students to do so as well... #TLAP
Reflective - I embraced being more reflective last year through blogging and a podcast. Reflection helped me become better for myself and students. #tlap
4: Rapport is so important and hard to top.
I think I’m going to have to go with @TaraMartinEDU’s mindset here and say REAL. How are my making connections to the students and making the learning #real for them? #tlap
A4- This is the easy one for me- Relationships, Relationships, Relationships.... We need to build strong, caring relationships with the students, families and colleagues! #tlap
Q4 You guys are rocking the Personalized PIRATE!
According to @burgessdave, the R in PIRATE represents "Rapport."
What "R" might you add that embraces the PIRATE spirit? Why?
#tlap
A4: R is for Relevance. Students are looking to make connections to learning. Let them bring their passions into the classroom, make connections and make learning "REAL" . Can I spell it REAL-evance? @TaraMartinEDU#tlap
Totally missed A3 but oh my so many great answers! Inspire was definitely in my mind, and innovate as well as interdependent... Ss (and Ts working together, helping each other) #tlap
Q4: my R would be representation. Every kid loves to see themselves somewhere in the material so finding a way to try to help them represent themselves through what they are learning#tlap
A3: I just dismissed my grad students so jumping in late... I’d choose INNOVATE/INTREPRENEUR because this year I’m so focused on innovating and changing things in my class to INSPIRE INQUIRY and curiosity in my students so they can innovate in their own areas of interest. #tlap
A4: Reflective - I embraced being more reflective last year through blogging and a podcast. Reflection helped me become better for myself and students. #tlap
#tlap
I should prob attempt to answer this myself.
A3: Innovative, Inspire, Intellect
Last one means that there are multiple intelligences. A kid who's not bright at maths might be superb at sports. Is he dumb? Depends on perception. Maybe he needs kinaesthetic learning.
q4:also relationships, fostering relationships in a classroom between the teacher and the student and between students. Do any teachers have advice on trying to foster relationships in middle schools? #tlap
A3: Inextinguishable is my pirate word, because it encapsulates my daily goal--create something that sparks the learners desire to go further, to dig deeper, to know and learn more--to eventually become self starters and take charge of their own #studentsuccess. #tlap
A4: It’s within the same spirit as rapport, but RELATIONSHIPS. They are key. Relationships w/ your students, w/ their families, w/ your colleagues, w/ administration, w/ community partners. It truly does take a village. #tlap
Q4 You guys are rocking the Personalized PIRATE!
According to @burgessdave, the R in PIRATE represents "Rapport."
What "R" might you add that embraces the PIRATE spirit? Why?
#tlap
A4: To embrace the PIRATE spirit, my “R” would be react! Using personal experience, materials, and emotions, how do you react to curriculum guidelines, classroom challenges, students, stress, celebrations? How SHOULD you react? #TLAP
“R”evolutionary. And I would add the word grassroots in front of that. It’s going to take change from those within the trenches to start the revolution! #tlap
Q4 You guys are rocking the Personalized PIRATE!
According to @burgessdave, the R in PIRATE represents "Rapport."
What "R" might you add that embraces the PIRATE spirit? Why?
#tlap
A4: REST. Seems very non pirate like, but I have learned that if you don’t rest and “sharpen your saw” in your off time you won’t have the energy to be a true pirate in class! #tlap
A4: My "R" would be for REALNESS. Teachers who show their humanity in class, get the students to see them as people-- with their own problems, challenges, successes, etc. Be Real! #tlap
A4: R is for responsibility. Responsible for passing on student led instruction. I feel a lot of pressure and stress about how to do this without interrupting the learning process.#tlap
A4 I have to stick with Relationships, not only the web of personal ones we build, but the relationship we build with what we are teaching, helping Ss to strengthen their personal and academic relationships, so the content and skills become familiar. #tlap
A4: similar to rapport, I’d say RELATIONSHIPS - when we develop relations with students anything is possible! Seeing that this year more than ever before! #tlap
A4: Revive. I think our teachers need to revive that spirt of teaching that existed when they first started and focus on that spirit. All of the other "stuff" will come. And if it doesn't, that's okay too. :-) #tlap
Q4 You guys are rocking the Personalized PIRATE!
According to @burgessdave, the R in PIRATE represents "Rapport."
What "R" might you add that embraces the PIRATE spirit? Why?
#tlap
R=Redo. Students need to be able to have redo's in the classroom! They need to know it's okay to make mistakes and we, as educators, are NOT going to hold it against them. We need to show that they are loved, even if they make mistakes, and that a redo is always an option.
A4: R is for reflective. Ss to reflect on their learning, and I want to reflect on teaching practice more often. The only way to grow is to reflect, and I’m not sure I do that enough. #tlap
A4: DEFINITELY relationships but would also say "reinvent". Always looking to stay current, try new things and encourage students to do the same, look at things in different ways. #tlap
Q4 You guys are rocking the Personalized PIRATE!
According to @burgessdave, the R in PIRATE represents "Rapport."
What "R" might you add that embraces the PIRATE spirit? Why?
#tlap
A4: Jumping in late - R stands for reading. Let's be honest, reading has to be one of the most important skills students learn in school. It has transformative power. #tlap
A3: "I" would be for Intrinsic Motivation... trying to foster intrinsic motivation in students, staff, parents, etc. Finding ways to create an environment where they are intrinsically motivated to be life-long learners. #TLAP
R=Redo. Students need to be able to have redo's in the classroom! They need to know it's okay to make mistakes and we, as educators, are NOT going to hold it against them. We need to show that they are loved, even if they make mistakes, and that a redo is always an option.
A5- Awesome! All the Pirate educators I have met have been truly awesome- as educators or supporters in my PLN... I'd name them here but I'd forget too many! #tlap#leadlap
Yes yes yes! 🙌 Redo are often resisted because they are more work on Ts. But students should be able to prove they’ve mastered content at any point of the year, not just when you expect them to! #TLAP
A4 My "R" is not rigor. I hate that word, it sounds like rigor-mortis and something bad. I'm gonna say Reflect. That, to me, is the best way to grow! #tlap
Finally got this dragon fired from last year! Check out the detail! The project was realism sculpture. You can debate the subject matter all you want, but this dragon is awesome! Nice job Ava!
#K12ArtChat@tishrich@MattCockrellArt@MSD549C
Okay so apparently I am now needin gto write about 437 variations of #tlap after seeing these amazing answers!! I feel a tweet curation blog post coming!! What say you, @TaraMartinEDU ????
A5: Active. We have to be active in our students lives! Not just in our classroom but on the court, field, birthdays, church etc. our students love to see us everywhere. #tlap
A5: Actualize! Make it happen. Don't just talk the talk, walk the walk! Often we say we should do these amazing things, but we often fail to follow through! Make things happen! #tlap
A5: Authentic. Learning happens with experiences and those experiences must be authentic, MUST MEAN SOMETHING, to the students to resonate with them. #tlap
A4 Ripple
Create a ripple effect spread ripples throughout the learning environment use ripples to drive change Ripple through to the next level follow the ripples to something new and exciting use the ripples to keep the momentum moving forward #tlap
Advcocate. We need to teach ss to advocate for themselves, and sometimes we need to be their voices. And accessibility - we need to make instruction, concepts, skills accessible to all ss in any way they need it. We also need to accessbile ourselves. #tlap
A5 I am down to two choices—one from Woodens Pyramid: ALERTNESS—always observing and being open minded & AUTHENTIC because being REAL is key to success #tlap
A5 Always and All Ways. Make sure students know you are a constant, someone to depend on, someone who cares, always there for them. Also, we must never give up, but search all the ways to reach our learners. Plan b, c, and beyond. #tlap
A5: Ambitious! Reach for what seems out of your grasp, try new things, take risks, expect more from our students. Growth happens when we stretch. #tlap
A5: The “A” for me would be AGAIN... you didn’t understand then let’s try AGAIN! That was spectacular can you share it with other classrooms AGAIN? Did you already read that book? Oh what you might learn by taking it in AGAIN! AMAZING AWARENESS AWAKENS AGAIN AND AGAIN! #tlap
A5: authentic, definitely. In what we do and expect from our Ss. Also accountable - again, we need to be to Ss, and they to us. Also need to be to admins and the admins to Ts and Ss! #tlap
A5: ATTACK! But really, a pirate educator attacks an issue, a challenge, a puzzle & comes out w/ something tried-hoping for something awesome! Pirate educators are proactive about choices in & out of the classroom to support & encourage students in their passions & learning #TLAP
A5: A - Ask & Alert. Ask Ss what they want to learn, have them ask you things all the time & search for answers. Be on ALERT for all the amazing gains Ss make as the year progresses and praise them! #Tlap
Q4. Tough one...relationships or reflection. One of the foundational components for education is based on relationships...between teachers and students, administrators, parents, and the community. We make an impact when we reflect on those relationships and teaching. #tlap
A5: A is for Authentic. Be the teacher or administrator that people respect because of who you are and your willingness to challenge the status quo and do what is best for students. #tlap
A4
ADVENTURE
☠️☠️☠️☠️
Bring adventure in your classroom... break down barriers, and change students perceptions of school... make it a place they WANT to be! #TLAP
A5: My "A" would stand for Accountable. We need to hold ourselves and those around us accountable for the behaviors that we need to promote success. #TLAP
Hi! Linda, 5th grade teacher from MO! My most favorite and most recent pirate moment was setting up a crime scene in my room for text evidence and drawing conclusions! @PartridgeElem#partleads#tlap
A5: So many great options for A:
Amplify.
Amplify others' voices.
Amplify your team's impact.
Amplify the value you place on others.
Amplify your art.
#tlap
A5 A is aggressive! Aggressively seeking out opportunities for students, aggressively seeking improvement in their pedagogy. Not just sitting back on our heels but actively pursuing every possible avenue for success! #tlap
A5: A PIRATE educator tries each day to be authentically awesome. They’re genuine and work hard to make schools better for students and staff. They’re sincere and real in all that they do. #tlap
A6: Together. We are all in this together. T's and S's should never feel alone. When working together we can make connections and build relationships. #tlap
A6: Team. It takes an entire team to change the lives of ts and ss. We work together as a team with our PLC and other resources. We work with our ss to find out what is connecting with them and what isn't. We strive to have our ss work in teams to learn together. #tlap
A6: T=THRIVE...I thrive as a T #ilovemyjob! Don't be afraid to question yourself...how you can (or do you) Thrive? How can you make sure your Ss Thrive in school, & if you or they are not Thriving what support/s do you need to do so? #tlap
A5: Tenacity - need to teach myself and my Ss to keep persisting in the face of adversity, setbacks, and failure. If we know we’re headed in the right direction, we need to power through it. #tlap
A6: T is for Taking Risks. Never get too comfortable to step out of your comfort zone and risk a little. There’s always something to gain from taking a risk in the classroom! #tlap
A5 A for Attitude. You have to come with a good attitude....and if your attitude is less than stellar, then you gotta have some solutions to fix whatever is bothering you. #tlap
A7- Energy! Bring the energy and excitement everyday as a Pirate! The kids and teachers feed off that energy and bring it for each other- contagious!!! #tlap
A1: We are celebrating tomorrow because we are off on Wednesday but we are doing a readers theater of How I Became A Pirate on the morning announcements #tlap
A7: T for Transparent. When students and staff see the reasons behind why you do what you do it brings a "realness," a sincerity to what is happening. Be honest, be humble, be truthful. Our kids deserve it. #tlap
A2: The first word that popped in my head was Perseverance. It's been a Monday for all Mondays and I needed to push through, stay positive, and persevere through a few obstacles today. @PartridgeElem#PartLeads#tlap
In reply to
@TaraMartinEDU, @burgessdave, @PartridgeElem
A6: Transparent. We model our thinking for our students to support them as they strengthen their inner monologue. We share our successes and our failures. We admit our mistakes, share our dreams and our goals. Students will learn about learning as we model metacognition. #tlap
A5. Acknowledge. We work harder when we are acknowledged for what we do and try even harder when someone notices the risk, passion, and effort we put forth. We all need a champion. One person to acknowledge "US" and tell us we are worth it. #tlap
A6: T to TRANSCEND!! I love pushing myself beyond the range of my limits and comfort zone. Not only do I benefit from it, my Ss do, too! Thanks yo may amazing #PLN@Hachen2nd@hayes_melisa@bhopteacher!! #tlap
A6: Tenacious or Timely (seriously can't pick just one) - being stubbornly unyielding in doing what's best for Ss and timely in delivery of content. Preheat the grill and all. #tlap
A6: T is for Today & Tomorrow. What did you learn from your practice TODAY? How will it change your practice TOMORROW? Pirates are always Learning from their experiences #tlap
A6: My T could be Thanks. I am Thankful for the opportunity to do what I get to do everyday. I'm a very lucky person and for that... I'm Thankful #tlap
A6 Today. Our chances are really so limited to reach some of our students, we must be ready today, to take the chance, to reach out, to have the conversation, to make that connection. No waiting. #tlap
A6: Togetherness. Personally, making connections with friends, family, PLN (PLF!) Professionally, working with colleagues, bridging new and old ideas, collaborating with Ss, helping Ss collaborate! #tlap
A6: For me, it’d be “Trust”. My Ss can trust that I have their best interests in mind, trust me to follow through, trust me to help them, trust me to add some fun, and trust me to care for them! #TLAP
A6: #TRAILBLAZER. Create a path that is unlike no other. Be brave to set sail on a journey that may be uncertain. Be confident in your quest. Do it for the kids! #KidsDeserveIt#tlap
A6: together - part of our classroom mission statement is to build a community. My name plate above the door says “our classroom” - we are all learning history together! #tlap
A7: Ease. I try to show my Ss that we don't always need to rush or be overly excited, we can also do things slowly and with ease. We can relax and enjoy our independent reading time or a mindful meditation #Tlap
Trust - without trust we don’t take risks. Students need to trust teachers, teachers need to be able to trust admin. When trust is in place amazing things can happen! #tlap
Definitely transparency. With our ss, with ourselves, with our parents, with our admin. We are all human, make mistakes, and have a lot to learn. The only way to do that is to be vulnerable. The only way to be vulnerable is to be transparent. #becausepiratedoesnthaveav#tlap
A6 My college coach, the great Joe Mihalich now at Hofstra, used to talk about “TEAMISM” and how good teams win. I think that describes me as a Pirate because it’s all about my Ss and connections with teachers far and wide working together to make things better. #tlap
So incredibly excited and honored to be a part of the @dbc_inc family! Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity to share my story! So grateful! #MLmagical#tlap
A7 Hmmmm TIRED? A lot of great “Ts” are mentioned! TIRED...what teachers are at the end of the day when we give so much to see our students succeed! #tlap
A6: TRUE TO MYSELF...with so many amazing educational “pirate” movements going on right now I always try to bring it back to my core. As amazing as it all is, you can’t do it all. I need to stick to a you do you motto when deciding what works best for your students. #tlap
A4: My R is Relevance! I have made it a point this year to try to be hip for my 5th graders...which means adapting lessons to be relevant in their world and with the current trends. @PartridgeElem#PartLeads#tlap
In reply to
@TaraMartinEDU, @burgessdave, @PartridgeElem
My pirate “T” would be TOUGH! It takes a tough mindset to walk the plank and head into a territory that challenges the stays quo. To be able to face fears and continue pushing forward. ☠️ #tlap#Nan3EDU
A7: Thoughtful!!! I really strive to put others first & let them know how important they are to me! It’s important for ☠️ to show gratitude & kindness to those in their crew! #tlap
A6 Toughness. I have JV soccer players who come up with every excuse to not run. I'm a very nice person, but I'm not a pushover. You should be running a few miles while you are in a game. The new generation needs some toughness. #tlap
Q7 According to Captain @burgessdave , E is Enthusiasm.
What other "E" do YOU possess as a PIRATE educator? How will you model it this week or month?
#tlap
Teachers what are the expectations in your class? Could your students tell you what they are a month into school? Do you have positive expectations for your students in that list? If not, steal ours if you'd like: https://t.co/7lttk7JGq4
A6: I’m THANKFUL. Thankful for the students and staff and families I serve. Thankful that I get to do this job. Thankful for the good days and the tough ones, too. #tlap
A6: Team. It takes an entire team to change the lives of ts and ss. We work together as a team with our PLC and other resources. We work with our ss to find out what is connecting with them and what isn't. We strive to have our ss work in teams to learn together. #tlap

I'd also like to add that I used to hate maths but my teacher changed the way I do, approach and think about maths. So I guess the metaphor works!
It just came to me but here's the definition:
a force that tends to cause rotation.
Yeah, I think we can make a metaphor out of that and apply that to teaching.
Q7 According to Captain @burgessdave , E is Enthusiasm.
What other "E" do YOU possess as a PIRATE educator? How will you model it this week or month?
#tlap
A7: EMPATHY - lead from a place of understanding - always. I’m taking personal interest in my students’ lives in and out of school and making sure that they feel valued and respected in my room #tlap
A5: T is for TRANSPARENT! No arbitrary commands here. Strive to be able to explain your thought process for each decision without being embarrassed by the fact that you didn’t have one. 😃 #tlap
A7: E for Enrich! I love to improve or enhance the quality or value in what we are doing and learning. I will show up daily for my Ss and pour myself into my calling. #tlap
This is fantastic! So lucky that I work with admin that seeks out my inner ruckus. Today, for example, they asked me why I wasn't singing when they walked in?!??! 😂😂😂 and when I showed up dressed as a blow up pink T-rex in the middle of a faculty meeting? They laughed.
A7: EMPOWER by getting out of the way of the success of my crew and the students. Let them discover themselves and find their path on the seven seas of life! Arggggh!!! #tlap
#tlap A6. Empowerment. I am turning over my 8th grade class Wednesday to take over Title One Reading intervention. I want my kids to know they are empowered to do great things in life.
A7 tough one because I love enthusiasm but I gues I could go with Evolve. You must constantly work to evolve growth and change to meet the needs of our students and the challenges that lie before them #tlap
Q7: encourage pops into my head. This week I start my student teaching placement and I want to encourage the students throughout my next experience(another E word!) in the classroom #tlap
Entertain. Because once you have them hooked, you can sit and talk about manipulated, responding, and controlled variables all you want. As long as you blow your pretty pink trumpet after every answer!!! 🤣🤣 #tlap
Q6. Talent! All students (and teachers) have a talent and a strength. If we take a strengths based approach to teaching, learning, and professional development, we continue to develop capable individuals who can reach for the sky. #tlap
A7 One of Woodens “cornerstones” to his Pyramid of Success: ENTHUSIASM! It’s my bread and butter trait ....and it’s contagious. Necessary for all successful endeavors #tlap
Q7 According to Captain @burgessdave , E is Enthusiasm.
What other "E" do YOU possess as a PIRATE educator? How will you model it this week or month?
#tlap
A7: E is Energy and it's important to bring it every day! I know that when I get in the room with passionate educators I gain energy from all of you #tlap
A7: Effervescent: Marked by high spirits or excitement. Staying positive and effervescent, bubbly, in the fast of adversity. I try to put my game face on no matter what's happening outside of school. It's hard, but my Ss & Ts have enough going on without my adding to it. #tlap
A7: Energize. We need to take time for ourselves to get energized. Take time away from school to recharge your batteries. Participate in twitter chats to find like souls, and find joy in what we do. #tlap
A7 EXCITED... when you get a text from a student filled with thanks and understanding of the high expectations I set for her last year! She is ahead of the game in science!! MADE MY DAY! #tlap
A7: encouragement. Not just encouraging our students but encouraging our teammates and ourselves. We can ALWAYS be better. It’s easy to forget to encourage others but I am trying a lot harder this year. #goals#tlap
Hmm... how can it be anything but Enthusiasm.... Maybe...encouraging, a little enchanting.... Curious to see what others say for this one. Of course you have to be Exhaustingly Energetic--which is my goal---to always be that Energizer Bunny for the team! #tlap
Q7 According to Captain @burgessdave , E is Enthusiasm.
What other "E" do YOU possess as a PIRATE educator? How will you model it this week or month?
#tlap
A6: The T that describes me as a pirate is techy. I try to embrace @mradamwelcome 's quote about teaching wifi kids with landline strategies. I'm not sure if techy is a word, but I'm transforming 😀 @PartridgeElem#partleads#tlap
In reply to
@TaraMartinEDU, @burgessdave, @mradamwelcome, @PartridgeElem
A7: I will model “Expaseration” this month....no wait, just kidding, I’ll try “Effective”. I want each lesson to be effective in growing students as people or learners. I want effectively communicate and connect with people to build and keep relationships. #TLAP
A7: Energy!! As ☠️ leaders, we set the tone for our crew! Your Ss deserve an excited teacher who loves what they do!! Take some risks, add some magic, & make your learning environment so energized that it attracts others around you to want to join in on the ☠️ movement! #tlap
A7: Was definitely thinking empower, but also equip..we want to equip Ss with life skills that reach beyond our classroom. Also need to equip ourselves with knowledge - of Ss, best practices, community, etc. as well as having the right equipment for all Ss! #tlap
Q7 According to Captain @burgessdave , E is Enthusiasm.
What other "E" do YOU possess as a PIRATE educator? How will you model it this week or month?
#tlap
A6 The T is for transition - we are always helping students grow, become more independent, as they transform into young adults. #tlap#NeverStopLearning
How about ENTROPY for my science friends out there? We must work to maintain momentum and protect our most cherished systems from disintegration through neglect. #tlap
A7: I will model “Exasperation” this month....no wait, just kidding, I’ll try “Effective”. I want each lesson to be effective in growing students as people or learners. I want effectively communicate and connect with people to build and keep relationships. #TLAP
A7: I’m currently reading The Innovators Mindset by @gcouros, which pushes my E to empower! Engaging Ss isn’t enough, you want to empower your Ss #TLAP
A7 Exception. Be that one that goes all out and starts over when everyone else is done. Keep going back to the drawing board for that one difficult S. Listen to understand those with different views than you. Stand out. #tlap
A7: #EVOLVE. Be ready to change- for our scholars. Be ready to shift your “teaching style” to break the mold, to transform your class or building. Continue to evolve into something better than you were the day before! #tlap
A7: E=EVOLVE...as in I am constantly Evolving in Education and I love that! I am currently evolving in my tech-savvy ventures to bring the best of what is out there to my Ss! #tlap@Flipgrid@Seesaw@nearpod
A7: I think everyone would say I bring the ENERGY, but I hope they’d also say I have EMPATHY. I probably need to show it more and to tell people how much they matter to me. #tlap
A7: I will model “Exasperation” this month....no wait, just kidding, I’ll try “Effective”. I want each lesson to be effective in growing students as people or learners. I want to effectively communicate and connect with people to continue building and keeping relationships. #TLAP
A7: My “E” is ENERGY... the good vibe kind of energy! You want to try it... I’m your co-captain or one of your mates. You need a pick me up I’ll dig deeper for 2! I own what I project so as a Pirate I want that to be priceless ENERGY! #tlap#Nan3EDU#LittleVikingEDU
Can we please add like 108229383728 more letters to the word, "PIRATE" so that we can keep this party going? Perhaps make acronyms for it in other languages? #tlap
A7 I'd like to Encourage Ss in their work (whatever that may be) and in advocacy for themselves when appropriate. I'd also like to Encourage all to speak up and out for Equitable teaching practices #tlap
Thank you all for an INSPIRING Personal PIRATE Night!
@burgessdave and I can't wait to see your PIRATE-Y tweets this week! OWN it, PLFamily!
#tlap#tlap
Q7. Everyone! This makes me think of the power of inclusion. The loner , the bully, the poor kid, the shy kid, the smart kid, and all in between. Everyone has something to offer and we never want to miss any child. #tlap
So @TaraMartinEDU straight up killed it with the personalized PIRATE tonight! Love it! Thanks so much for making me smile tonight! #tlap brought it again! I LOVE this community so stinking much!
A2: P is for Plentiful. I want everyone moment in my class to provide plentiful opportunities for fun, engagement, enrichment, and opportunities. #tlap
A7: Encourage. I encourage ss when they are discouraged because each s should have at least one person rooting for them at all times; in & out of the classroom. I will model this through positive comments, one-on-one conversations, and support of both schoolwork and extras #tlap
