I think you know to move to the next challenge when you feel like your message or insight could impact a larger group.

Good evening! Patty, 7th grade special ed/math T from NY, aspiring admin. You know you're ready when you are seeking out ways to grow yourself aside from your current position #admin2b
A1: Leaving the classroom is difficult enough, I would love a position where I can still actively engage with students on a daily basis! Asst principal or instructional coach would fit the bill #admin2b
A1: at this time I am happy in my role. I know that down the road I will need some more experience in a traditional setting. However, each position creates a better understanding of varying roles in schools.

A1: I would consider any position in which I can make a bigger impact on more ss. However, I feel blessed to be a t to all my ss now. I don't want to take this stage of my career for granted. #admin2b
A2: Look at their website, talk to community members, read their local newspaper. Talk to the ss, they should be able to amplify their voice in the process too. #admin2b
A2: I read the district and school's website, look at recent honors, see what they value. But I think what is most telling is the interviews. You have to be interviewing a little too... #admin2b
A2: explore the website, what is being said about the school, and make a visit to the city of possible. A school is s reflection of the town it serves. When it's right it feels like home.
#admin2b
I think you know you are ready for a change when YOU change. When you start seeing things from a different perspective and you want to learn and grow, itβs time to move! #admin2b

Q3: Do you see challenges in applying out of a typical sequence (i.e. principal without having been an AP or superintendent without having been an assistant superintendent)? #admin2b
A1: I think you chose a position where you know you can have the most impact. I always look for positions that allow me push myself and positions that I connect with and can make a change! #admin2b

Q2: I always think word of mouth is the best to find out information. Word of mouth from many people. Talk to parents, talk to staff, talk to students, and then research school demographics and such. I tend to look for schools that I connect with on a personal level. #admin2b
A3) I see it as a challenge but more for those that make the decision than those that apply. As a second career teacher, I have more skills than a traditional 1st year principal. #admin2b
A3: great question. I'm not sure. I can say that administrator who have never taught there can be resentment. I think you have to know where you fit and if the cnn powers that be feel you can fill that role effectively.
#admin2b
A3 Yes and No. I think it is comforting to some people to know candidates have had experience prior, but there is something to be said about a beginners mindset #admin2b
A3: All experiences in a sequence prepare you best for the next role. I'm not saying that it's not possible to skip jobs in a sequence, but there are benefits to a typical sequence for some jobs. #admin2b
A3: Currently in WI, there is an abundance of administrators applying for positions, so it's difficult for a brand new administrator to get interviews. Because of all the rural communities I'm around, you can be an building administrator without being an AP first. #admin2b
Q3: Ahh, my current internal debate. I think the prior experience of AP can definitely help when you become a P, etc. BUT- itβs how bad you want it. How big is your vision and how devoted can you be? Everyone can be trained if their mind is in it for the right reason. #admin2b
Q3: Do you see challenges in applying out of a typical sequence (i.e. principal without having been an AP or superintendent without having been an assistant superintendent)? #admin2b
#admin2b A3) The challenge is knowing the organization hiring. I have found this situation varies district to district. If the job fits your personality and skills, then the challenge should be diminished.

A4: Practice interview questions in front of a mirror (nonverbals matter!), research the core values of the district (mission/vision/goals), dress the part on interview day, be confident, but relatable #admin2b
A4: Be myself. Research their school. See what's important to their community and their vision for the future. Try to relax as much as possible, and of course pray! #admin2b
A1) Great Q. One that allows for the greatest positive impact on all student outcomes. I take a closer look at the leadership hiring and if the job description fits my talents and personality. #admin2b
A4: learn about the school and district. There are only so man questions they can ask you so look them up create answers and prepare to rock it.
#admin2b
A4) Make sure that I am up to date on district initiatives, policies, goals and the overall vision. A bonus is to connect with current staff to strengthen or start a relationship. #admin2b
