Welcome to #ATchat. Tonight we will share our ideas about modifying curriculum and providing accommodations. We need to teach the standards. How do we do that when working with students on IEPs? What tools do we use?
Q1: #ATchat Are you required to modify curriculum in your current position? If you do not modify curriculum, who on the team fills this role? Or, is this overlooked and done on the fly?
Q1: As a consultant, I am trying to do more curriculum modifications for our student with Rett, as the team is so busy. Makes sense to all of us to try and use some time that way. #atchat
A1: Its a continuum for sure. I am always speaking about forethought, not afterthought. Feel fortunate to have some amazing teachers who have inclusive thinking! #UDL. #atchat

A1 My #edtech role is to support and suggest modifications during the year, and to review during curriculum writing. Our CST provides great feedback on modifications. #ATchat
a1: The idea of modifying means that there is something that needs to be modified. Is it possible to develop lessons at a student's level without calling it modified? Could that be our future? No mods...just get what you need at your level? #ATchat
A1: I do not modify, the special education and general education teachers that I work with do that. They will consult with me on ways tech can support the modifications #atchat
A1 Accommodations help students access the curriculum. Modifications change the curriculum or expectations. Both assist students with how they are accessing their education #atchat

That is an awesome question. It depends on the standards selected, I suppose. What if these were the standards, for example - https://t.co/EOUWaku3kk What do you think? #ATchat
A3: Starting to do a lot of Making words using the Word Wizard app. I make letter/sound correspondence activities using Clicker 7 Matching custom set to make it relevant to her interests. I use the Tiggly storymakers app. And good old fashioned letter magnets! #atchat

#ATCHAT that's exactly what I was wondering about! Thinking that I looked at Ss strengths, needs & interests and helped the curriculum meet them where they were at
A2: #atchat "..students appear to be no more accurate than teachers (Fuchs et al., 2000; Helwig & Tindal, 2003) in their perceptions of the actual or potential impact of an accommodation on their test performance." How do we help students see the potential impact?

I think we should keep the reading level as high as cognitively/dev appropriate, and accommodate as needed. I like using kidsdiscover, etc, as kids don't stand out and it can read it to them. #atchat
Q4: I look at curriculum and then acc or mod according to student strengths and needs.. trial and error a bit...and always embed AT where appropriate #ATchat
#atchat@DonJohnstonInc My favorite story this week. After reading Journey to the Center of Earth in #readtopia a student brought in a model of earths layers. They said "We never knew he had this interest..." Yep all kids want to learn big ideas!
We've been using it as mainly a math practice site for 5 years. They have 27 topics now.. soc studies, phonics, science. Just getting sped folks on board. #atchat
A5: Invite teachers to explore the benefits of going digital. Digital is a step closer to accessible. Look how easy it is to get that thing up in Google Drive, yo! #ATchat

A5: iPhone/iPad apps: Scanner Pro by Readdle, ABBY Fine Reader. Web: Online OCR, Snap and Read and Snapverter. Teaching students how to make paper accessible=fun! #atchat
Digital allows students to collaborate in ways paper/pencil does not. Love the Google Suite to have students work together. A lot of built in accommodations as well. #atchat
How about using this to promote S expression! Add to our #ATchat@flipgrid & tell us what excites you about our profession: Flipgrid link: https://t.co/S4e0EGpomB
Dear @GoogleKeep We love this feature for accessibility reasons! We'd also love an option to read the text right in the pic (OCR w/o the extract. Read right in line maintaining the integrity of the image!) That would be awesome! #ATchat
Q6: been focusing on how purposeful planning using UDL and the end goal of assessment = autonomous learners in AT workshop using Forms, docs and screencastify #ATchat
A6: I think I go through romances with different tools lol; love my TAP-it and current romance is with @nearpod SO many ways to engage, ❤️ the virtual 360 field trips #atchat
A6: Currently planning a lesson with an ENL T that app smashed Buncee and Wonderopolis to support inquiry based learning! Excited to see it come to life! #ATchat

A6 Fun app is @ChatterPixIt - have student make a picture talk. One of my teachers had students research and "interview" prior presidents. Can have story characters retell their story or pictures present an opinion essay. A lot of fun ideas. #atchat
A6 Let's start with Kahoot!, Plickers, Adobe Spark, Google Suite, Green Screen video/pictures, Google Voice Typing, Word prediction, Grammarly, #atchat
We now a number of tools/resources that provide support for our students. It still surprises me how few gen ed/spec ed teachers know about the options. #ATchat
A6: @WheelDecide is a cool digital spinner tool I found today. I think it’s a great tool for helping Ss work through indecision & task initiation challenges while adding a bit of fun risk taking/whimsy. #Atchat
I think the times are changing. I find more and more doing amazing things with these tools. Sometime intentional. Sometimes by accident. Things are looking up! #ATchat
I love @EpicKidsBooks as its free for teachers. Possibilities are limitless how it can support learning (inquiry based, pleasure reading, high interest topics, stream content based videos, etc...). An invaluable tool! #ATchat
Yes! so many of these tools are readily available and easy to use to reach ALL learners. Whose responsibility is it to ensure students have access to tools for all learners? #ATchat
It’s incredibly user friendly and organic in the ability to produce. My 6 year old has been creating his own sight word book for fun using @BookCreatorApp with complete independence! #atchat
