CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
A1: not sure of a specific moment, but the beginning of each school year when your previous students run up to you to share their summer vacation stories is always great! Of making those connections to new students! #CatholicEdChat
A1: Most exciting moments in my 2018 teaching year were receiving the award for NJ Non Public Teacher of the Year from @DrLRepollet, celebrating books and the nerds that 💜 them with #nerdcampNJ, and seeing the joy in Room 4 when @EmmaOtheguy visited our class! #CatholicEdChat
A1- Epic moment of the year: Starting our new Algebra program with an incredibly talented group of math teachers and then finding out we will be presenting it at @NCEATALK !#CatholicEdChat
A2: extremely terrified right now as I try to revamp spelling in my classroom. My awesome principal let me move off the workbook model we’ve had forever so this year is a building one in Room 4. Pray for us! #CatholicEdChat
A2. Try a Mystery Skype. I have Skyped with experts, but not with another class. I need to work on the logistics to make it happen this year. #CatholicEdChat
A2: more focus on reading...reading isn’t my specialty, but it’s an essential aspect of learning. Strengthening my skills while facilitating the growth of my students. #CatholicEdChat
Those with Apple devices, have you looked into Apple Teacher certification? Badges earned as you work through the levels. https://t.co/MXjkjXw09Y#CatholicEdChat
A3: I love learning about the liturgy and sacraments with my students. I hope they gain a greater appreciation of Christ’s love throughout the year! #CatholicEdChat
A3: most eager to take a deep dive into reading excellence via our Caldecott unit starting shortly! Legitimately excited to hear their incredible conversations about reading with each other 😍😍😍 #CatholicEdChat
A3: Using recent research to support student learning, specifically study skills and exam prep. Tech tools to support, too! I love helping them learn how to learn better! #CatholicEdChat
A3 The best way to motivate them into wanting to learn and have a growth mindset...not being scared to fail, especially if you learn from it. #CatholicEdChat
A3 Very excited to be working toward ISTE Certification this year! Heading out to visit @21stCenSupKW in a few weeks to participate in the 1st @NCEATALK cohort! @Eduscape#catholicedchat
A3: We did #OneWord yesterday. It is now on their desk nameplate. Eager to learn each Ss word and how it will guide us the rest of Year. #CatholicEdChat
A4: we’re about to start a kindness project at our school, so I’ll be having students reflect on our weekly themes and have them think of ways to bring kindness to others. Not a true new year resolution, but a weekly resolution that will grow. #CatholicEdChat
I am always looking to find new ways to encourage the kids (parents) to attend Mass outside of school hours.
Open dialogue and modeling has been the go-to.
#CatholicEdChat
A4: goal setting is different from resolutions so I thought I’d type up one of my goals, discuss it and then have them think about a few of their own, write them on pretty paper as SMART goals. I’ve only done goals with my struggling Ss prior. Never whole class #CatholicEdChat
@mmdetrick I love that you have them keep their word on their desks. When I did this, I used it as a bulletin board and I think it lost its meaning. This would be a great way to keep it fresh overtime! #CatholicEdChat

A5: my professional resolution = growing for my ELL students. Does anyone else feel like their teacher prep programs left them grossly unprepared for English Language Learners? This year is me reading/researching as much as I can to give the support they deserve #CatholicEdChat
A5: take the tasks that have been given to me and complete them in the best way I can...I’ve been given several new responsibilities that I know will challenge me, but I also know will make me better. #CatholicEdChat

A5 my professional resolution: never to bring my iPhone to a meeting or have it present. To no always make the person I’m with the essential focus of my professional attention. https://t.co/20tNnKCKFo#CatholicEdChat
A5: personal and professional intertwine here. My word is a “FOCUS” because I tend to multitask too much so one of my goals is too focus on one thing for a block of time so it gets done well rather than just done #CatholicEdChat
Good morning, too hectic to chat today. We are off to celebrate our Queen’s 16th birthday. Wishing everyone a happy & blessed new year. #CatholicEdChat
A5. Professional: decide on progress monitoring tool. Move needle on writing, ELA & reading instruction (less/no workbooks!) Personal: buy a house in Omaha #CatholicEdChat
A6: I need to trust that God is putting me where he needs me rather than thinking I need to be somewhere else. I’m doing his work, so I’m where I need to be for him. #CatholicEdChat
#NewYearsResolution = bring high school rugby to more catholic junior & senior schools, for boys & girls!
Sport builds toughness, discipline, travel & scholarship opportunties
Rugby’s a great new option for #Catholic School Students > https://t.co/LaGc6f7XDM#CatholicEDchat
A1 Hands down, getting the phone call from my pastor offering me the principal job - I was on top of a mountain in El Salvador at the time! #CatholicEdchat
With older students: Discuss distinction between goals and the systems that get you there (habits). Talk about common pitfalls (e.g., motion vs action). Read/discuss Aristotle's Nicomacheam Ethics. Tell story of Kaizen. Follow @JamesClear + Atomic Habits. #CatholicEdChat
A6: time management. I have a two year old who is a terrible sleeper, so I’m always exhausted. And when I finally get time to myself, my brain = mush. Simple, but going to try to start writing a task list for myself everyday so I don’t blank out when I get time #CatholicEdChat
Totally missed #CatholicEdChat this AM. BUSY week back to school. Looking forward to reading the chat and connecting agin with everyone at #NCEA or @iste
