Hi... Christine from the Sunshine Coast. Math educator, researcher, and school trustee. Looking forward to discussing what I missed @EdCampBCCC last weekend. So sad... but so glad that @jnovakowski38 and @CarrieAntoniazz are guest modding #bcedchat tonight. #boom
Hi! Im Stephanie Metzendorf, I am and Elementary ed and Special Education Teacher in progress at Indiana University. In the future I hope to teach 2nd grade :) #bcedchat
#bcedchat Keep yourself open to split grades as well 1/2 or 2/3? Plus you never know where your career will flow once you get going! I spent my career in secondary & now spend more time in elementary.
Q1: Did you attend BC first EdCamp focusing on the Core Competencies either in person or virtually on January 13? If so, what inspired you? If not, have a look at the google docs from the sessions! https://t.co/wKrWqXgbXN… #bcedchat
#bcedchat A1: I was there. Biggest take away was how many of the students attending looked on core competencies as peripheral & taking away from their main academics.
A1: I missed the #EdcampBccc but followed along at home. So inspired by the depth of the conversations and the commitment of the educators around making core competencies work in their classrooms. #inspired#bcedchat
A1: Yes! It was great. I am interested in the possibilities for students to find success through the CC, even if they may struggle in other areas of school. Passionate about engaging S's with CC. #bcedchat
Interesting - yes, some students felt teachers felt pressure to "cover" academics but many students articulated how important they realized CC are #bcedchat
A1 Yes I did. The HS students from McRoberts inspired me. The words and thoughts that they shared just confirmed how important it is to put emphasis on #corecompetencies#bcedchat
A1: It was my first ever EdCamp. I loved the conversations and hearing how everyone was handling the #corecompetencies The reminders to weave the vocab into everyday conversations and specific ideas are things that I took and have now used in class. #bcedchat

A1. I can't get to the Google doc... and I am super sad to have missed the inaugural #edcampBCCC. I would have loved to have heard how edu-folks are implementing and creating strategies to develop the #corecompetencies and reflect on them. #bcedchat#nexttime
#bcedchat A1 I was inspired by the honest, open conversations even though we had just formed topic groups. That is a testament to the need to talk and desire to share our practices re: core comps
A1: unfortunately I missed due to no voice. BUT, the thing that has most inspired me is the conversations that I’ve heard since and seeing how far reaching @EdCampBCCC has been. The conversations have continue to ripple and impact far beyond the walls of the event #bcedchat
A1: I was at #edcampbccc. I went b/c #edcamp always leaves me feeling recharged. This one did too :) #bcedchat
Plus, it's great to listen to where ppl/schools/etc are at with core competencies.
Trying the link again for the google docs for the EdCamp sessions - we have it set so anyone with the link can access: https://t.co/xuadJ8wls7#bcedchat
I am sooooo jelly... but loved the tweets that you and others had shared... love the sharing of professional learning. Lots of good questions and examples. #bcedchat#corecompetencies

I think as educators we value the time we have to chat with out colleagues but have so little of it. Happy to hear it was a safe place for people to share #bcedchat
It's a constant balance between just surviving and thriving. Great connections and relationships make up those more emotionally charged times. #bcedchat As the saying goes: Just keep swimming.
I totally agree. Educators love learning with and from each other... particularly in an EDcamp format that is driven by those at the conference. So organic and in REAL TIME. #bcedchat#corecompetencies#iamcomingnextyear
I think as educators we value the time we have to chat with out colleagues but have so little of it. Happy to hear it was a safe place for people to share #bcedchat
I agree!! It's about nurturing the language and idea from young. My K kids love telling me which colour triangle they are using. So now I'm started to extend the language and meaning of each #corecompetencies#bcedchat
The fact that students can name what they are doing, whether it is using oral language (communicating), or being a good friend (personal/social), allows them to have success. #bcedchat
A2: Core Competencies is interwoven throughout all conversations with staff and students. I am working on using the language within our school 'code of conduct' or school charter.
#bcedchat
A2: I'm running a workshop next week for SD71 on basically how instructional routines can support students in developing the Core Competencies. #BCedChat
#bcedchat A2: It is a sensitizing process. What we normally are doing in class inquiry, discussions etc, I draw their attentions or ask for students' perceptions with the core comps. Also talk about transfer, those parts that work elsewhere in their lives.
A2. My current role in K-12 education is school trustee. I'd love for us to look at our #corecompetencies as a board of education as part of our board evaluation process. Makes sense. Self-reflection. As a sessional instructor, we do reflective journals with prompts. #bcedchat
I took away the need for Ss to digest the CC language with familiar content prior to it being woven together with unfamiliar content. This prompted me to teach the CC language in isolation for a wee bit prior to using it to drive content-based learning. #bcedchat
In reply to
@CraigMah, @teacher_malcolm, @jnovakowski38
A2: #bcedchat Direct teaching, naming the competencies as we use them, using pic symbols with shape of the day, etc. are things being done in my practicum class. At UBC I am talking with fellow TC all the time about CC
Q2 when I visit classes and talk to students and teachers abt learning, keep using the CC language. Notice, name, nurture. Ask how ss are practicing self-reflection and assessment #bcedchat
Ian, I'm in Salmon Arm for our Inquiry Group tomorrow.. I was so happy to get out of the rain and into the snow! Probably because I didn't have to shovel! #bcedchat
A2 - It was a great reminder to me to include the conversation of the core competencies into my discussions with teachers. I am thinking about how to bring these more to the forefront #bcedchat
As a district resource teacher, I've been doing workshops, co-planning, co-teaching and mentoring our teachers. As a Grade 7 teacher - I practice what I preach! #bcedchat
#corecompetencies is incorporated in my class throughout the day. When the kids arrive, they start to put up the CC they have to use for the activities on the shape of the day. We self-assess after a picture book, math game, gym, and everything. #bcedchat
A1 Yes, I attended in person. I was inspired - or maybe encouraged is a better word - by the reality that we are all wrestling with this and how to make it meaningful for students. Also, got my brain thinking about how CCs can be coexists with curricular competencies. #bcedchat
A2. I constantly bring CC into my conversations with colleagues, trying to get them to use them in their classes, supporting the ones who come to me for suggestions and working on school-wide activities that bring the CC language to everyone. #bcedchat
It would be awesome if those types of conversations between teachers could continue throughout our careers. Think of the growth of our professional learning if we had collaborative conversations throughout out careers. #bcedchat
A2: Trying to draw connections with our learning targets - made some magnets that remind ME to make those connections explicit... use them with our dayplan. #bcedchat
#bcedchat A2 By sharing these 6 posters. All districts have permission to print and use. The file is 15 mb so the attached is a lower resolution version; not the best for printing at 11" x 17".: https://t.co/iSkfrNlWtu
A2: I have the pleasure of being invited to present around the province & talk #corecompetencies with educators. I am also excited 2 have the support of my Ss as “ambassadors” of the CC - sharing their own learning process from a kiddo POV (& all the teaching stuff too) #bcedchat
Agreed. Whatever we want for students, we should want for ourselves. So, if this includes developing and reflecting on our #corecompetencies then those in the system (Ts, Ps, Admin, trustees, and Ss) should all do this in the context of our work. #bcedchat#alignment
A2: I have the Ss thinking about them as we go through our day and then talk about them again as we engage in activities. I also have Ss reflect on which activities match the #corecompetencies#bcedchat I have also asked my admin if we have a plan for prod around them.
A2. I constantly bring CC into my conversations with colleagues, trying to get them to use them in their classes, supporting the ones who come to me for suggestions and working on school-wide activities that bring the CC language to everyone. #bcedchat
yes not the same you ask the student about curricular to follow visual learning of Hattie but CC are different. Journal is great along with post it #bcedchat
#bcedchat I like the thought of all of them posted but focusing on 1 (or 2) at a time. And when AHA moments happen or emerge, direct attention to some that weren't being focused on. Student game to see how many of the others they can work into a class?
#corecompetencies is incorporated in my class throughout the day. When the kids arrive, they start to put up the CC they have to use for the activities on the shape of the day. We self-assess after a picture book, math game, gym, and everything. #bcedchat
A2: Weekly self-assessment on one of the areas. It helps to have prompts like the ones from @montessorimice, to provide the language- they provide the examples and the next steps. #bcedchat
A2 I’ve been trying to redirect and connect artifacts of learning to the competencies; great conversations with parents at out SPT meetings last week #bcedchat
A2: Working with teachers to develop student-friendly language and I Statements. Spamming our bulletin boards with CC visuals and language. :) Creating posters together as anchor charts in classrooms. Naming, noticing (...leaning in to nurturing). #bcedchat
Exactly. But how can we reach that common language if we aren't given spaces for conversations? Tonight's #bcedchat helps, but we need to continue the conversations with our peers in our buildings/districts. #bcedchat
A2: Working with teachers to develop student-friendly language and I Statements. Spamming our bulletin boards with CC visuals and language. :) Creating posters together as anchor charts in classrooms. Naming, noticing (...leaning in to nurturing). #bcedchat
Weird thought #bcedchat
While recovering from a hernia op, doctor told me not to do any exercise that involved my core. He said swimming was good. "Swimming definitely works my core!" Can the competencies work exist outside of curricular?
A1 Yes, I attended in person. I was inspired - or maybe encouraged is a better word - by the reality that we are all wrestling with this and how to make it meaningful for students. Also, got my brain thinking about how CCs can be coexists with curricular competencies. #bcedchat
#bcedchat Isn’t it more important for teachers than for students? Can’t great teaching embed them and make them invisible? Let Ss focus on more interesting things?
So true, it needs to be visible and the language needs to be used. Just by putting it up will not teach the Ss what they truly mean. And when a child needs to use that CC, they know which hat to pull it out from. #bcedchat
Hi Rob! The way the curriculum is set up, students need to self asses the core competencies, so that is why we want to make them visible and develop the language they need so they can achieve this #bcedchat
Lovely Angela. Yes, to be me the "nurturing" of core competencies is a different teaching stance than focusing on curricular learning standards. #bcedchat
A2: these are an anchor in our classroom. They are just pictures unless you unpack them and attach personal meaning to them. They've been a very powerful tool, and so interesting to see the different meanings ss create. Free download (6 posters) https://t.co/y2EAoGfsnh#bcedchat
Q3: reflecting on my communication #corecompetencies is always a question I have for myself. Did I get the message through? Did I explain that well enough? Then I think what can I do to tap into the others that didn't understand. The biggest, #relationshipmatters!!! #bcedchat
Hi Fred. Funny doc comment :). Good question! I don't think that curricular is ever void of competencies. I meant that I've been thinking lately about how to do the planning of teaching with the CCs at the forefront (instead of the content at the forefront). #bcedchat

A3. When planning for my sessions at SFU as a sessional and facilitating workshops (re: on BC's New Curriculum) I made a conscious effort to ensure that I had embedding all 3 #corecompetencies into my planning but also make visible to my learners. #bcedchat
A3 we are incorporating CC language into IEPs. At my school super integration support tchr @BoardFrew includes significant student input on strengths, goals, measures of success #bcedchat
A3: On a professional level, I am doing an inquiry into the benefits of and how to best use creative thinking in a classroom. What it looks like, and why it is important. #bcedchat
You and making new hashtags Bryn. Sheesh. I love the idea. It's the maintenance of it. I wonder if we should have a monthly episode on #bcedchat or end our chats with 30 minutes discussing #corecompetencies. I do like the idea of ongoing professional learning.
Here's Q4: Many educators at the BC EdCamp for Core Competencies commented that it helped them to focus on one core competency at a time, often school-wide. What core competency have you been most focused on and why?#bcedchat
A3 As a 10 - 12 teacher I am always using the CC termonology and talking about the upcoming curr changes. Self reflection is key to all our design process learning too. Just beginning but enjoying it. #bcedchat
A2: My colleague and I have been working on CC trading cards. Earn them by explaining how you have similar traits, record on back. Hockey card holder becomes... wait for it... your portfolio... #bcedchat
A3- By making it visible every day with Ss and trying to practice the #corecompetencies more consciously myself and in my conversations with others #bcedchat
a3 I try to have my students talk about curricular competencies and be able to self-assess. Very hard thing to do, plus the parents are not at this level yet #bcedchat
Yes, our BC context focuses on students' self-awareness and reflection of the Core Competencies. As we begin this journey, we are all working on making the language explicit but yes, rich learning tasks naturally highlight the competencies! #bcedchat
#bcedchat A3: @angelalaing5 answered this beautifully. Realized I was doing it yrs ago but called it meta-curricula, those things I wanted my Ss to have for life & future success beyond a ma/sci classroom. Big ideas that are the skeleton upon which nerves/muscle are hung.
Hi Fred. Funny doc comment :). Good question! I don't think that curricular is ever void of competencies. I meant that I've been thinking lately about how to do the planning of teaching with the CCs at the forefront (instead of the content at the forefront). #bcedchat
A2: My colleague and I have been working on CC trading cards. Earn them by explaining how you have similar traits, record on back. Hockey card holder becomes... wait for it... your portfolio... #bcedchat
Kindergarten!! They love using their hands to form a triangle and either putting it on their forehead, lips or hearts to tell me which ones they are using that that moment! #bcedchat
A4. I can't answer this question... but really, really wished I could. Not currently activated in a role where I can continue exploring this as an educator and learner. That said, I would love to do 3 #corecompetencies at a time as best fit for my students. #bcedchat
I'd love to see #bcedchat PLN tackle specific grades & outcomes with CCs as part of the planning. Tap into our collective brains/experiences for how effective lessons could grow. Monthly chats could rotate through areas/grades & be so relevant at same time.
You and making new hashtags Bryn. Sheesh. I love the idea. It's the maintenance of it. I wonder if we should have a monthly episode on #bcedchat or end our chats with 30 minutes discussing #corecompetencies. I do like the idea of ongoing professional learning.
I think that is a great idea. I've seen schools where they put those posters around the Core Competencies around the school so that during parent visits, they are there and can ask questions. #bcedchat
In reply to
@CarrieAntoniazz, @Iuliia12, @CraigMah
I would come in a heartbeat. It lends to some "complications" with my role. That said, I should ask. Never hurts to ask. I would love to teach, learn, and play. That's what makes teaching so fun. #bcedchat
I think when it is school-focused as opposed to district-focused, there is more parent interest because it is directly about their children's experiences at school. #bcedchat
In reply to
@CarrieAntoniazz, @brynmw, @Iuliia12, @CraigMah
A1. I attended. I was inspired by the fun and relevant ideas shared by colleagues on the things they are doing in their classrooms to bring the CC to life! #bcedchat
If you want to learn more about instructional routines and how they might support Core and Curricular Competencies, check out Routines for Reasoning by @GraceKelemanik and @AmyLucenta. #BCedchat

#bcedchat A4: I must admit I switch from communication & creative thinking frequently but jump to the others as situations merit. Communication piece makes students think more on how to say & not just what to say.
A4. Toughie. We are working on Communication a lot. But also pushing our thinking - both creatively (ASDT) and critically (flat earth) while also working on empathy & Personal/self identity...easier to build academics around competencies...? #bcedchat
Love how Ts are finding ways to do this at all levels! Wondering about how things look in secondary as we get so many primary school examples #bcedchat
We have the semester 2 "open house" in a couple of weeks. I want to do a parent presentation on the CC's. Hoping admin will buy in and that parents will attend! #bcedchat
In reply to
@CarrieAntoniazz, @brynmw, @Iuliia12, @CraigMah
A1 did not attend the ed camp, but I have perused the google docs and love dropping in on #bcedchat to see what others are doing to bring #corecompetencies to life in the classroom. Currently teaching Senior English.
A4- In my role of district coordinator I focus on critical thinking and communication as I work with classes across SD73 to implement robotics, explore coding and talk about rich learning through technology #bcedchat
Isn't this how we ended up with at #EdCampBCCC ? I would love to chat more about this - maybe have more specific topics per week or focus on one of the CCs? #bcedchat
In reply to
@ChristineYH, @montessorimice, @brynmw
A5: TBH, the greatest resource I've used to understand the core competencies is #bcedchat and the chat last year, this one, and connecting with those that went to #EdCampBCCC
#bcedchat It happens for me every time I talk/observe elementary teachers; I can't help but transfer to my usual levels and to my curriculum areas. Ecotones where the ideas bump into each other, making me work for deeper understanding and application
Love how Ts are finding ways to do this at all levels! Wondering about how things look in secondary as we get so many primary school examples #bcedchat
A3 I’m working on building more resources for my colleagues in SD73. I find I talk about them all the time and enjoy supporting work teachers are doing in classrooms when I see CC posters or hear the language in their school. #bcedchat
A5. Admittedly, I am an experiential learner. I love to try new things with my students and seeing how things go. It's about taking the conceptual into the practical. I also like to connect w/ other edu-folks about this @EdCampBCCC to further my understanding. #nexttime#bcedchat
A4: I started with Personal and cultural identity- understanding yourself as a learner. Now our big focus is Personal awareness and responsibility- assessing where you are, setting goals, perseverance... #bcedchat
Q3: At the risk of sounding annoying… they are imbedded in everything, ha! Most recently imbedding #thinking competencies in our investigations of social sciences. https://t.co/s1vzO5rhtv#bcedchat
Thinking like a ‘social scientist’ - making thinking strategies/questions/processes ‘visible’ as a provocation for our ‘what does it mean to be Canadian’ PBL. #corecompetencies#itsgoingtogetmessy
Q6: At the BC EdCamp for Core Competencies, many educators shared the realization that we need to be create experiences throughout the year for student self-assessment. What self-assessment tools are you using with your students?#bcedchat
YEEESSSS... That's why I love you guys soooo much. We have an incredible and inspirational PLN on #bcedchat. WE have GREAT IDEAS and make them into reality. #amazing#edcampBCCC@jnovakowski38

In October I assembled a flipbook (pdf slides) of fave ideas from #corecompetencies: https://t.co/GeArme4qD5
I need to update it as so many awesome ideas now being generated!
Thankful for #sharingiscaring
I love that we are all EXPLORERS and not experts ...yet😉
#bcedchat
A2: My colleague and I have been working on CC trading cards. Earn them by explaining how you have similar traits, record on back. Hockey card holder becomes... wait for it... your portfolio... #bcedchat
A5 I am always absorbing samples from here, @RosePillay1, from my MB experience. I would say I may be a CC hoarder. I will try anything at least once #bcedchat
A2: these are an anchor in our classroom. They are just pictures unless you unpack them and attach personal meaning to them. They've been a very powerful tool, and so interesting to see the different meanings ss create. Free download (6 posters) https://t.co/y2EAoGfsnh#bcedchat
A4: When I first started introducing CCs, I started 1 at a time, usually Comm, Thinking then PS. Now my kids get the language and routine, we use all of them and the possibilities of them n wat they mean after each project. #bcedchat
A6. Self-assessment should be ONGOING and not a one-time event. Students lose sight of it's purpose and opportunity to use self-reflection to further their learning. Journal reflections with prompts but also discussion questions for students to share their thoughts. #bcedchat
A4 cont. A group of colleagues and I have designed a series of support workshops talking about creation apps. Allllll about creative thinking. We use the triangles to highlight those areas of thought. #bcedchat
Q5 conversations that link the #corecompetencies to real life are powerful. When Ss see the connection bt school and life they are more prone to reflect. #bcedchat
A4. starting a new class tomorrow (sem 2) of struggling learners. Will definitely be focused on CC's. I think Personal Awareness to start with (why are we here? What are my struggles? What now?) #bcedchat
With so many things on the "to do"list and "to learn" list, CCs have gone by the wayside. This conversation and #edcampBCCC is inspiring me to look at what I am doing and make some adjustments #bcedchat
We have been learning to be “Social scientists” & have rooted our practice in the curricular & #corecompetencies and almost no “content.” We rooted the explorations in familiar content (Goldilocks) and focused on competencies instead of content. https://t.co/r6oNTbc7Ae#bcedchat
Goldilocks - History’s greatest mystery! We saw a video of ‘traditional’ Story then read ‘GL& the 3 Dinos’. what do we know? how do we know? why does it matter? what’s next? We had more Qs than As ‘what do we know’ & ‘what do we need to know’ chart was born. #corecompetencies
Too much fun. I created a Mystery Virtual Field Trip to #PyeongChang to launch an #olympics study. This is a reflection prompt slide after the launch challenge. #bcedchat
#bcedchat A6: I find variety is helpful. I like creating forms for Ss to do assessment on, or allow Ss to create something. Like Vgotsky's zones of PD; where were our outcomes, CCs emerging in Ss growth, what zone did they fit in; what new goals emerge
Q7: If you were to create an ideal way/s for students to communicate the summative student self-assessment of the core competencies in June, what might that look like? What could the possibilities be? #bcedchat
Too much fun. I created a Mystery Virtual Field Trip to #PyeongChang to launch an #olympics study. This is a reflection prompt slide after the launch challenge. #bcedchat
Pic symbols, audio recordings as self-reflection, and drawing/writing responses to questions. We also (try) to reflect every Friday about a time in the week that we _____ (used brain, heart, communication, etc.). #bcedchat
Oh My Goodness, I love this. I would love to connect my staff/classes with something like this. Now, I'm thinking of a mystery skype with a class in S. Korea. Connecting the same in us, not what makes our differences. #bcedchat (But celebrating difference, too)
In reply to
@mmedevries, @CraigMah, @CarrieAntoniazz
A6: informal check ins, visual triangles, questionnaires, conferences, and surveys are the most common in my class. I recently saw online about take a selfie assessment, which I'm going to try in my class #bcedchat
A5: As others have also said the resources shared from the #bcedchat PLN and also from the #EdCampBCCC So grateful that people are so generous with ideas and resources.
I LOVE getting “messy” and trying new things (and Im lucky to work along side kids who are also willing to take a leap of faith). I also love sharing the good/bad/ugly parts of the process (and WHY they were ugly/bad/good). #bcedchat
Q7: If you were to create an ideal way/s for students to communicate the summative student self-assessment of the core competencies in June, what might that look like? What could the possibilities be? #bcedchat
A5: amazing poster designs from many school districts. Pictures books and pre-made self-assessment sheets gave me ideas to create and personalize ones for my class. #bcedchat
Agreed. @EdCampBCCC, I appreciated @LisaSchwartz05 's reminder that self-assessment should done in MANY ways and that we should be careful not to use writing as our self-assessment tool all of the time. #bcedchat
In reply to
@ChristineYH, @jnovakowski38, @EdCampBCCC, @LisaSchwartz05
A7. This would depend on grade level, but I would LOVE to pose an "inquiry question" where students can reflect on their #corecompetencies but also personalize their response. Something like, "What are you most proud of this year?" Then Ss embed dialogue, pictures, etc. #bcedchat
Secondary educators are at a disadvantage. We have not had the same training and the provincial training days were not useful as the new curriculum was / is still in draft form. #bcedchat
I'm using them with upper intermediate and have Ss match examples/definitions with each one to 'teach' the CC - then posting as a great reference. #bcedchat
In reply to
@mmedevries, @montessorimice, @Visschinspired
A6: We try to reflect every Friday about one place we used the #corecompetencies also our struggles and successes of the week. #bcedchat Students also do video reflections to their on-line portfolios when they complete an activity or project that they decided to post.
Q6: At the BC EdCamp for Core Competencies, many educators shared the realization that we need to be create experiences throughout the year for student self-assessment. What self-assessment tools are you using with your students?#bcedchat
I love Mystery Skypes - they are such a great way to have students reflect of culture, language, learning, etc. Our best chats have been pairing primary and high school kids - it's great to see them support each other! Core comptetencies at work! #bcedchat
#bcedchat A7: Quick thoughts would be around a portfolio of evidence that they have creatively, communicated & can then meta-analyze critically about their 'ed story' with their place, path & future described.
????
A7: a FlipGrid telling all they learned, a discussion on what they thought was most important, a “look back” at all their self assessing and see what they improved on and how they improved and how that is a part of core competency. #bcedchat
A7. an interview / presentation 1 S to 2-3 adults, T's, admin, community. Moscrop did 1 to 1 interviews with all their Gr. 8's and 9's. Adding 10"s this year. Opportunity for connection, multiple means of demonstrating, and very authentic. #BCEdChat
Absolutely. Reflection is part of the metacognition process... but also for experiential learning, etc. It's a mindset that can be purposefully utilized to leverage learning... with or without others. #bcedchat
A6: Yes! Its not about isolated self-assessment, its about developing reflective culture in our learning spaces and reflective process in our learners. The ‘goal’ being that the process becomes an impeded part of their metacognition, no?
Do you have a laptop and access to a projector? That's all you really need (and speakers). I bet K's would love to 'visit' other schools this way. #bcedchat
In reply to
@xkrcherie, @CarrieAntoniazz, @mmedevries, @CraigMah
Q8: There was a high turnout of secondary educators at @edcampbccc. What can our secondary colleagues learn from our K-9 colleagues regarding the core competencies? What different opportunities does the secondary context provide for working with core competencies? #bcedchat
It looks like it depends on how active the community is. However, it seems to help families see value not only in report cards but also in their children's self-assesment. #bcedchat
In reply to
@CarrieAntoniazz, @xkrcherie, @CraigMah
A7: I'd love for my S to choose which way they would like to reflect & self-assess themselves. Since my class has so much freedom in how they show & present their learning, I'd love this to carry through to self-assess. ex movie, art, poem, skit, conference, own choice #bcedchat
Q9: Many educators who attended @edcampbccc appreciated the contributions of the secondary students who attended sessions. What opportunities are you creating for student voice around the core competencies in your class, school or district? #bcedchat
I think many secondary teachers did themselves a disservice by taking a "wait and see" or "doesn't apply to me" stance. This was widely promoted and there were huge local and provincial forums. #bcedchat
A8. EVERYTHING. I wished that secondary educators and school leaders would connect more with elementary educators and school leaders more frequently during this curriculum implementation in BC. Lots to share and learn. Very transferable. It's up to the imagination. #bcedchat
Even if the curriculum is in Draft, the core competencies can be done - most of it is just putting common language to waht we do already. I know that the BCTF is pushing for more non-instuctional days to continue the conversations into the next years. #bcedchat
A7: My ideal summative self-assessment is NO summative self-assessment - HA! I really believe it should be frequent and ongoing - I have loads to about it, but I can’t be articulate enough to share with my twitter character limit, ha! #bcedchat
#bcedchat A8: I have found sec. Ts need to catch up with implementation; I usually find the elem Ts are ahead so gain rich insights from what they have done & focus on. It helps me view my sec. Ss in different ways (usually as people & not receptacles of my curriculum)
