Morning, Sunshine! I'm an Instructional Tech Director, presenter, keynote speaker, blogger & photographer from #Mashpee, MA. I'm excited to start my summer with today's #HackLearning chat along with @hackmylearning here at #ISTE18!
I'm Connie Hamilton, co-author of #HackingHomework. My Sunday morning routine doesn't change just b/c it's summer. HOT coffee and #HackLearning chat every single week!
Good morning #HackLearning friends! I’m Lauren from NY. I write and consult about empowering students and teachers to make school meaningful by connecting their work to their values.
We just have seven more "sleeps" until we will slowly wind our way back to the crystal blue waters of Minnesota for a visit. Super excited! #hackLearning
My Summer Fun and Learning Pages https://t.co/4clOBTyuuN include: Summer Learning, Summer Reading, Summer Fun, Summer School, Conferences & EdCamps & Summer School for Administrators #ISTE2018#HackLearning
Yes! I want Twitter chats to be more than just talk ... we need to move learning into application and risk-taking ... trying new things that could positively impact student learning ☺️ #HackLearning
Awwww what a thoughtful thing to say to brighten up my Sunday morning! I wouldn't be so active on Twitter if @conniehamilton wouldn't have patiently guided me to a greater understanding #HackLearning
Hey #hacklearning ... just another teacher #NotAtISTE ... i'm ok with that ... just got done trimming some branches in the backyard ...now time for some coffee

A1: Summer is the time to read and have the time to process how you can use/incorporate what you read. Also consider joining a book club online or in person! #HackLearning
A1: for any local around Boston #hacklearning peeps, I will be running EdTech PD for my district, but feel free to come. #INVITE for all the Hack Community. This doc is an overview and has a sign up. https://t.co/gB52RQ4neb
A1: We can all take time to read books and attend conferences. It's also a great time to connect with people at your school to prepare for the year. #hacklearning
A1: I love summer conferences like #ISTE18, where teachers are less stressed about missed kids & can soak up the learning! Conferences are a great way to make new connections that can enhance classrooms when school starts up again! #HackLearning
We have a snarky one that has Ed buzzwords that have become overused ... Rigor ... MindSet (especially when they misuse it ... like you sometimes have to have a Testing Mindset ... or a Growth Mindset when it comes to testing #hacklearning
A1 Summertime PD doesn’t have to be just books, conferences, and chats. How about viewing and making art? It’s one thing to say “think outside the box,” but art shows us where creative thinking can lead—and that‘s the kind of thinking we can bring to our teaching. #HackLearning
A1. There are so many books to be read and conferences to attend, but I also like to take the time to get organized or the coming year, planning for upcoming activities, refining things to make them more aligned or higher quality. #HackLearning
A1. Check out this graphic I created with several literacy chats that are taking place this summer. Hope you will be able to jump into learning with others! #HackLearning
A1: offer to present at a conference and share your expertise (most of the time you then get to attend for free) OR be inspired by just grabbing coffee with another educator. @aprilschoenberg ☺️
#HackLearning#NotAtISTE
A1) For me, this summer I'm engaging in Twitter chats, reflective thinking, working with a coach, reading, Voxer book chats, connecting in person with mentors, and relaxing and rejuvenating. #HackLearning
A1: Summer is the time to read and have the time to process how you can use/incorporate what you read. Also consider joining a book club online or in person! #HackLearning
Q2: Some educators use June, July, and August to work a summer job. What are some hacky ways to boost your income when school is not in session? #HackLearning
Love book chats here and on @voxer as it really gives you a chance to digest the Learning and collaborate some ideas for implementing new ideas with others. Always learn so much with others! #HackLearning
Good morning, #HackLearning! Elementary T from Iowa joining (also #NotAtISTE). A1: This summer I’m taking multimedia & YA resources classes toward my teacher librarian degree. Love learning about & playing w: all the tech resources! #uimedia18
A1. Planning to attend a conference? Here is a 10 minute podcast with 10 terrific tips to maximize your attendance there. https://t.co/HjTChjKQM4#HackLearning
A1 Will be reading, joining some Coffee EDU, writing, blogging for @4OClockFaculty, making some art, running and spending lots of time with the family at the beach. Always grateful for my summers. #HackLearning

A1. Some educators might enjoy seeing possible ideas to use when creating their professional learning when collaborating with others. Here is something I created https://t.co/vT4XVAvgL1#HackLearning

There is no law that states teachers have to be learning over the Summer ... although I am reading ... @TeacherSolutions has some good books Personalized Learning and @drlangraad has a good one on Coaching and I hear @markbarnes19 has some Hacky books that are good #hacklearning
Good morning! Bobby McCutcheon, principal at @RandallBears in Independence, MO. Excited to participate this morning while waiting for my daughter’s softball game to start! #HackLearning
A2 I facilitate sessions with #SpringBoardPL ... I also support parents who choose to homeschool their children with portfolio evaluations #HackLearning
Q2: Some educators use June, July, and August to work a summer job. What are some hacky ways to boost your income when school is not in session? #HackLearning
A1 #HackLearning - Soooo many on-line, at-your-own-pace options (almost overwhelming!). Webinars, MOOCs, or even just Google how to do something you've wanted to try & you're bound to find tutorials somewhere. (Just learned how to do a digital escape room that way myself.)

Aside from teaching I wrote curriculum for my school district, NYC Board of Ed, & Open Doors - school-business partnership I wrote educational materials for the utility industry. Our Authors page https://t.co/Or3U5ikVVL See picture below of booklets I wrote #HackLearning
Anybody tell you your bulletin board is fabulous or want to steal a lesson idea from you? Why not use some summer time to share it on TPT and make a little money? #HackLearning
A2: I LOVE teaching teachers how to use technology during the summer AND I love donating my time to snap senior portraits for students! My friend Charity @theOCBlog shares more summer ideas here: https://t.co/LKLhm9D2yZ#HackLearning
Great reminder, Lauren! Summer is the time I work on my photography skills. It’s easier to get outside and take my time. I find the creative energy to be therapeutic to me. #HackLearning

Latoya, Organization is one of my favorite things - and something I always worked on when I was a teacher prepping for a new year. Music to my ears! #HackLearning
A1. There are so many books to be read and conferences to attend, but I also like to take the time to get organized or the coming year, planning for upcoming activities, refining things to make them more aligned or higher quality. #HackLearning
Right now there are a few going on. There’s not one specific one that reads books. I have a #read4fun group wher we talk about books all year round. Have to read for pleasure too. #hacklearning
A1: Read books. Annotate and write/blog about those books. Talk to others about them! Even just reading what your students are reading is a huge plus! #hacklearning

Great idea! Walking tours of diverse local parks, historical areas, and neighborhoods we don’t frequent are great ways to enjoy nice weather, meet people, learn about our students’ experiences outside school, and (maybe) get ideas for projects and field trips. #HackLearning

For summer learning, I love a good webinar.
I just shared this PHENOMENAL literacy webinar before I knew the #hackLearning topic! 😊
https://t.co/8OkaJyYcIM
David Liben knows more about literacy than anyone on the planet. He's also HILARIOUS.
On 7/11, he's doing a webinar, The Problem of Teaching Literacy Backwards. I'm betting it's a Master Class.
Deets: https://t.co/zwh3TyKoHd#coreadvocates#ISTE18#ISTE2018#sunchat
Yesterday, when educators requested it, I created a @RemindHQ that will be sent out about the chats. Here is the code if you would like to jump in and join it. https://t.co/9Dy4tXKDIW When you open the app, swipe to the left. #HackLearning
I learn all the time, but I call that life ... just not all my learning has to do with teaching ... working on my Raspberry Pi emulator ... that is just frustratingly fun for me #hacklearning
A1 Will be reading, joining some Coffee EDU, writing, blogging for @4OClockFaculty, making some art, running and spending lots of time with the family at the beach. Always grateful for my summers. #HackLearning
A2 I have taught PD and facilitated 21st Century summer program in the past to supplement income I tend to stay within teaching But the last summers, I have just done my 21st Century program Learning to not work so much #hacklearning
A2: Blogging and writing, or working as an online tutor! Personally, I take the time to destress, read, write, and most importantly visualize how I want next year to go! #hacklearning

I really love attending @nErDcampMI. It’s a celebration of literacy & learning (and it’s free)! I always feel ready to take on another year after I go. #HackLearning
1980's arcade games ... not the home versions, but the ones played in the actual arcade ... made a bar top cabinet with a joy stick ... only problem is my HDMI to VGA converter doesn't work ...waiting to get a different one #hacklearning
A2: Like to work at concert events as usher and then listen to free concert. Fenway and Xfinity center in Mansfied are great for summer spot work and concerts. #hacklearning
This quote from @gcouros is something I really believe should be included in every chat at the end. We can talk and share in chats but extending our learning to others is paramount of learning leaders. #HackLearning
A2. I don’t have an answer for this one, but book sales are a nice extra:
Burned Out, Beaten Up, Fighting Back: A Call To Action For America’s Public Educators!
Order it on Amazon: https://t.co/BodQc4FTqt#call2action4ed#HackLearning
A1: We are taking some time this summer as a faculty to have a summer retreat. While it will be PD focused, it will also be largely about team building and welcoming our new colleagues. Excited that we are getting to meet at the World War 1 museum in Kansas City! #HackLearning

Jerry was nice enough to come to my classroom and later on to my new school district to share with students the process of writing these booklets! Hi Jerry!! #HackLearning

I haven’t been to that one but love following the fun here. I have been to the one in Maine. Love how much the authors love us and the kids they write for - they give back so much! #hacklearning
A3: It's great to learn during the summer, but it's also great to take vacations and spend time with family and friends. Some days... just do nothing productive. #hacklearning
I learn all the time, but I call that life ... just not all my learning has to do with teaching ... working on my Raspberry Pi emulator ... that is just frustratingly fun for me #hacklearning
Absolutely LOVE all of the resources being shared during this morning's #HackLearning This is certainly one chat everyone will want to review and make notes of what has been shared.
A2: As a former athletic director I know there is a huge need for sports officials. Being a summer softball/baseball ump, or summer basketball ref is a great way to connect with kids, stay in shape, and make some extra money! #HackLearning
A2: I don’t know how common this is but a few colleagues are attending a summer institute. They are getting paid to attend/learn and at the end are getting all the supplies they need to teach. #HackLearning
Summer is needed for teachers to take a breather and recharge for the next year. Educators go at 200% for 9 months, then dip to 75% in the summer - still always thinking about the new class of kids coming in the fall. #HackLearning

A3 We of course need to rest, relax and pursue personal interests. Fitness, fresh air, friends and family. But it's okay to dive into a new skill you want to learn if it's a passion ❤️❤️😀 #HackLearning
A3: Eating well, working out, getting an optimal amount of sleep. Looking after our finances. Taking care to nurture important relationships. Slowing down, and remembering to be grateful for the people and things we are blessed with. #hacklearning
Thank you - I am having a blast learning how to use it. I have to be careful, though. If I tilt the ball the wrong way, the sunlight concentrates into a pinpoint and I burn myself, lol!! #HackLearning
Have fun together! We try to schedule a few get together as with staff during summer months - movies, dinners, mini golf, baseball games, etc... #HackLearning
A2: Like to work at concert events as usher and then listen to free concert. Fenway and Xfinity center in Mansfied are great for summer spot work and concerts. #hacklearning
A3 My teacher brain doesn't stop, either. (I wish it would! So much to do but I feel pulled in too many directions.) 2 weeks of camping coming up! #HackLearning
A4. It’s importantto take the time to rest when it is needed, to stop doing and find time to think and reflect, to give ourselves an opportunity to regroup and focus. If we are always doing, our ability to use meta-cognition to improve our practice is compromised! #HackLearning
Absolutely LOVE all of the resources being shared during this morning's #HackLearning This is certainly one chat everyone will want to review and make notes of what has been shared.
A3: Reflect on the year past , write goals and then have fun whatever way energizes you - Golf, beach, read, watch all summer movies, travel, then revisit goal and get read for a Kick A** school year. #hacklearninghttps://t.co/CTWeX05rjS
A3 Healthy cooking, hiking, and observing nature help me restore myself and come up with new ideas for teaching & writing—and self-care is itself an important topic to discuss with students when we return in the fall. #HackLearning
A3: Take some time do establish a gym/workout routine. If you can make it a habit in the summer, it will be easier to sustain during the school year. You have to take care of your physical/mental health if you are going to be able to take care of your students! #HackLearning
A1: We are taking some time this summer as a faculty to have a summer retreat. While it will be PD focused, it will also be largely about team building and welcoming our new colleagues. Excited that we are getting to meet at the World War 1 museum in Kansas City! #HackLearning
A3 One game changer for me was loading @MapMyWalk app on my phone cuz I adore challenging myself to improve. If working with others is your thing they have a way for you to connect with a friend anywhere in US. Walking can add SEVEN years to your life. Let's do it! #HackLearning
A3: To be honest... deep cleaning my house!! My house gets neglected during the school year so to have it clean and organized helps me be at peace during the school year. #HackLearning
A3 Taking time to do some of the things you love but don’t take time to engage in during the school year. Develop some habits that will carry over to the new school year. RELAX! #HackLearning
A2: As a former athletic director I know there is a huge need for sports officials. Being a summer softball/baseball ump, or summer basketball ref is a great way to connect with kids, stay in shape, and make some extra money! #HackLearning
I make time to get to the gym 3-4 times a week, even during the school year. Sometimes it’s at 9:00 at night. I’ve never regretted going to the gym, but I’ve definitely regretted skipping a workout! #HackLearning
A2: I don’t know how common this is but a few colleagues are attending a summer institute. They are getting paid to attend/learn and at the end are getting all the supplies they need to teach. #HackLearning

I have planned to clean my garage and basement during vacations over the last three years. I start but never completely finish! This summer is going to be different - maybe.... #hacklearning
