#IlluminateED focuses on how teachers can create meaningful learning experiences for their students through the intentional implementation of technology. Discussions range from strategies and ideas for purposeful technology integration discussed in Bethany Petty's book, Illuminate: Technology Enhanced Learning, global collaborations, building and expanding a powerful PLN, teacher well-being, and MORE!
Hey, everyone! I'm Bethany, author of Illuminate and I'm so excited to learn from you all tonight! I got back from #ISTE18 last night - 7.5-hour drive with my mom and 2 young daughters! #IlluminateED In addition to our chat, I love #flippedclassroom#edchat#edugladiators
A1 when giving feedback I will only give partial direction or better yet, ask them a question to guide their thinking to fix their own mistakes...once they get it they start self-critiquing #illuminateED
A1: I usually frame it in showing them the progress they’ve made...but teacher driven. I definitely need to work on teaching kids to lead their reflection #IlluminateED
Hey #IlluminateED! Thanks for the reminder, Kristi! Louie from Lancaster, PA, but currently Chicago for #ISTE18. Moving to Philly to teach 5th grade next month.
Q1: Reflection is so important in learning & I am 100% guilty of skipping this essential step! I love using Google Forms, @padlet, & @Flipgrid to encourage student reflection in my classroom. I use a form at the end of each unit asking for reflection & feedback! #IlluminateED

A1: @CorbinEdTech set up a Skype with a class in England for us. Loved learning their traditions and their typical day in the classroom, as well as some geography. #IlluminateED
A1- in Kinders we do lots of reflections using nonverbal cues and stop and talk periods. I also love having the@ show what they know in a varietyof ways on @Seesaw#IlluminateED
A2 student choice in my PE class takes the form of stations that Ss switch to and from on their own once their main challenge task is accomplished #illuminateED
Q2. I love summative assessment choice boards, though I think that kids also need to change it up and try different ways to show their learning.#illuminateED!
A2: This last year the biggest place for choice was our play to learn time but...little reflection. After going to Responsive Classroom training this week I have a bunch of new ideas about adding more choice in...reflection is the next layer...#IlluminateED
A2b I could do better at promoting reflection for sure though. it is an important aspect of the learning but I battle with my time..40m 1x/week #illuminateED
A2: I liked to use Choice Boards. Each activity followed my goals but allowed for individual expression. I also loved feedback so WE could grow. #IlluminateED
A2: To promote student choice -- I use Show What You Know Bingo boards for each unit #HyperDoc. Students get to choose how they demonstrate their understanding of the content and take more ownership and pride in what they create! #IlluminateED
A1: I point out their growth by showing them some of their previous work to compare. We have to help them learn how to reflect and make sure it'sa positive reflection. #illuminateed
A2- my chat answers tonight could be an ad for @Seesaw ! I often tell my kiddos to show me what they know using any @Seesaw tool they want OR paper. Even their choice in tool tells me so much. #IlluminateED
A2 (2): When Ss start their new #HyperDoc for the unit, I give them the rubric for their "apply" product. We discuss the requirements, providing examples & non-examples & reflect on progress throughout the unit. We also use @quizizz@GetKahoot for review/reflection #IlluminateED
I need to tidy up and pack the car (before it gets dark in this neighborhood lol), but will back shortly, #IlluminateED. Is this a half hour or an hour?
A3b maybe it was the learning too but I was focused on getting the good grade. Luckily I still like to learn even though i'm not graded anymore #illuminateED
A3: I LOVED school (let’s not talk about the reports I was writing in the summer of elementary school because I wished I was in summer school) #IlluminateED
Q3: I loved the gold sticker, and positive comment challenged me to work harder so that I would get another star on the next assignment. #illuminateED!
A2: I provide structured choices during centers. While I choose where the students go, they have several choices in their areas to choose what they will do. This allows them to challenge themselves or reinforce previously learned skills. #illuminateed
A3- school was one place where I felt I could get it “right” and had people who believed in me. I aim to give that same feeling of love and support to my littles! #IlluminateED
A3: I was a teacher pleaser and my parents expected me to always do my best (nothing else was acceptable). Not all students have that support and encouragement anymore. #IlluminateED
Search #IlluminateED and you'll see the questions for the chat. You'll see Q1, Q2, Q3, etc., - tweet your response using A(number of question) and include #IlluminateED in your tweet. Respond to others & ask questions!
A3: I did not like reading or school until college. I found an author I loved and I took classes I was interested in taking. I was about 20 before I realized how much I loved learning. Now I can't be stopped! #4ocfpln#illuminateed
A3: Oh my goodness - the As on the report card were huge motivators for me! Teacher feedback & reinforcement were key as well. Mom and Dad always encouraged (let's be real -required) success, which was measured in growth in learning, feedback from teachers, & grades #IlluminateED
A4 I have different levels for the students to "achieve" with the motor skills; everybody starts at the base level and can advance based on what they are showing...@MrsLedford6Eng is a Gamification master! #illuminateED
A4- I'm currently enrolled in a "gamified" graduate course. IT IS INTENSE!!!! It would take a lot of personal training and professional develoment before I ever did anything along those lines in my classroom! #IlluminateED
A4: Not yet, but my kids are learning how to play games and create their own games every day. (Honestly though, I don’t know a ton about gamification yet!) #IlluminateED
A4- I don’t, While I like the concept it isn’t something that excites me so I know I’m not ready to implement something like that. I LOVE listening to @MrsLedford6Eng talk about her gamified classroom. Her passion is amazing #IlluminateED
