I am Mrs. Miles the Instructional Technology Coach at Rockvale Elementary. My first technology memory is off a film strip and I so desperately wanted to be the one to turn the slides before the self turning one was invented..yeah Im old folks...that was 33 years ago. #rcstechchat
I'm Stephanie, former 4th gr. teacher, current Instructional Technology Coach at BCE/TFAA. Technically, my first piece of technology I really remember was a film strip projector, but I really liked this GIF of the overhead projector :-) #RCSTechChat
What’s up everybody! I am the instructional Technology coach at Eagleville. I didn’t use one of these that much but I did have one when I started! #rcstechchat
Anna Dicus, 6th grade writing teacher at @LMS_Hawks! Also, if this picture doesn’t describe technology in the 90s, I don’t know what will! #90sbaby#rcstechchat
Good evening! I am Brittany King and I’m a 3rd grade teacher at Roy Waldron. I remember these big TVs being the cool thing when I was in school. Or the ones they rolled in for guidance! #rcstechchat

Hi! Amy Patterson- 3rd grade @WeAreBarfield. I am going way back to helping my Dad use the purple crank ditto machine for his history copies! #RCSTechChat

Probably a little bit of both- I am comfortable with apps and the computer, but the new tech games and educational apps, like nearpod... just seem like more work.. but I WANT to implement them! #rcstechchat
A1 Tech-Phobic learning to become Tech-Tacular...I don't know how to upload a picture for my technology and I just opened this twitter account. I guess I could say I am middle of the road. #rcstechchat
A1 I am right in the middle - I love using Tech but sometimes don’t use it to its full potential, I’d call myself an aspiring Tech-Tacular! Or a Tech-tacular Jr. ;) #rcstechchat
A1- I’m pretty a little of both. I feel comfortable with games and apps in the iPad and using it to introduce our units a lot of times but don’t use it enough since our classes are just 40 minutes..#rcstechchat
I think I’m somewhere in between. I’m great with some programs but there are many that I would love more instruction in. I would feel much more comfortable implementing them. I love using NoRedInk in my writing class! #rcstechchat

If I can’t be in between, I’ll go with tech-tacular. I LOVE my smart board and use it daily. I still have a lot I would like to be comfortable with. #RCSTechChat
I am techtacular lite. There are a few websites/techy resources that give me Sheldon Cooper's confidence (Big Bang Theory reference). Other resources and and websites I stay away from. #rcstechchat

A1 I want to be Tech-Tacular, but I feel that something is always holding me back from learning new things. I like comfort in what I already know how to do!#RCSTechChat

My most used tech piece is definitely NoRedInk! I love being able to create assignments for my different writing classes based on the students’ learning needs. The diagnostics are a great way to see growth through the year as well. #rcstechchat
A2 Nearpod for presentation (trying to make this a better habit this semester) TES Blendspace for showing/Collecting videos, and as an Art Teacher, my Ladibug is my BFFT (BFF-Tech) #rcstechchat

A1. I am a tech-tacular I suppose. I know how to convert a word document to a PDF. Haha. jp. I guess I would say bc I am MIE certified🤷🏻♂️ #RCSTechChat
A2-I don’t have a classroom any more but the tech tool I use the most with students at my school has to be @nearpod for digital citizenship lessons. Now I use @canva to make graphics to communicate with teachers. #rcstechchat
A2 -I use my computer and projector for powerpoints. We received a laptop and I am getting used to using it more as well. I do like Nearpod, Actively learn, and Mastery connect. #rcstechchat
A2. Right now @padlet@Office365 Students are finally well versed and self sufficient in getting to, manipulating, and plugging in responses. #RCSTechChat
Ohhhhh me too....I have 100s of graphics created in @canva everything I used tonight with the exception of Bitmojis are all done in Canva. #rcstechchat
A2. The tool I use daily I have to say is @JupiterEdu . All my materials are online .. students get automatic feedbacks on quizzes. Also the have 24/7 access to materials and assignments. Best tool I have ever used! #RCSTechChat
A3 Implementing technology along with the the necessities and expectations for daily lessons can be overwhelming. Sometimes I feel like I am told what to use instead of being able to choose what is best for my students. #rcstechchat
A3-The thing I hear the most is TIME. It is hard to take time out of a busy schedule to try something new and potentially fail. Sometimes it doesn’t work but sometimes it will in the long run save time. #taketheleap#tryit#rcstechchat
A3 Same thing that holds me back...there are SO many things to use in the classroom. How do you focus on one and learn it completely before another one comes along to take its place? I get comfortable and get tired of having to start all over with something new. #RCSTechChat
I think the idea of breaking from routine may cause teachers to be hesitant. We all have our daily routines in how we run the classroom/lessons. Adding a new wrinkle to what we're used to can be a bit unnerving at first. #rcstechchat
A3: Hmmmm...maybe teachers are afraid it will take too long to learn new technology!!! For me, so many classrooms have different technology, so I tend to stick with pretty basic things...projector, Apple TV, etc!! #rcstechchat
Fear of the unknown. So many teachers are unfamiliar with the programs and sometimes it gets scary. #guilty Also, some teachers feel like they have to do everything at once. The best thing to do is take one tech instrument at a time and really learn it. #rcstechchat

A3. Anything that changes our routine is scary and brings fear. Also i think it is because most of us are fearful technology will fail us at the worst time... such as testing or evaluations 😳😬 #RCSTechChat
A3- Being an expert and the possibility of failing multiple times. Additionally, if technology isn't working or something goes wrong which is highly possible. #rcstechchat
Change of routine is hard for all of us! New things come into education all the time though. I’ll swap a little anxiety for a little growth professionally any day! #rcstechchat
I know we share when things don't go well...but I think if we have success stories with technology in our classrooms that is worth sharing with our teacher friends...so that they know what is working for others. #rcstechchat

Question 4- Remember to add A4 before you answer and click the picture below to see the full question. Don't forget to the hashtag #rcstechchat on all of your tweets ;-)
A4 At times I feel that my students have too much screen time. They rush to get finished with work to get on their devices to watch youtube videos or play games. #rcstechchat
A4 I don't know if they get a lot of screen time at school per-say, but they definitely get a lot at home. Video games and social media take up a lot of their free time. #rcstechchat
A4-I think it is a possibility. There should be a balance. Nothing replaces good teaching but if the tech makes it more effective then it is worth giving it a try. It needs to be purposeful, effective tech integration not just tech for the sake of tech. #rcstechchat
A4 I don't think so. I do think that they enjoy the technology enhancements we incorporate into the lessons. I imagine they would bore easily if it were just a continuous paper trail all day. #rcstechchat
A4 I think when tech is used JUST to use tech - then it is too much. My 3rd graders used pencil/paper today because that was the BEST way for them to accomplish their assignment #techwithpurpose#rcstechchat
A4. Absolutely. Unfortunately. And I believe we often feed that problem but I have decided that problem is above my pay grade haha. But I do encourage/require students to read the books and paper documents occasionally in my classroom. #RCSTechChat
A4 I think when tech is used JUST to use tech - then it is too much. My 3rd graders used pencil/paper today because that was the BEST way for them to accomplish their assignment #techwithpurpose#rcstechchat
A4 also, I don't think 8 year olds should stay up until 1 a.m. playing fortnight, but I also don't think 8 year olds should be playing fortnight #rcstechchat
A4 In school or out?! In school, I think we plan for them to have more time than they actually do. "Students need X amount of time on X program to show X amount of growth." But then we never have to time to fit it in.
I feel like there are many teachers in my school that do a great job with implementing technology in our classrooms meaningfully! Simply putting a student in front of a laptop doesn’t cut it. #rcstechchat
A4- I do feel that students are highly dependent on technology for everything. What happen to the days of spelling word test and looking up words in the dictionary? Technology isn't being used properly at home in my opinion. #rcstechchat
A4 also, I don't think 8 year olds should stay up until 1 a.m. playing fortnight, but I also don't think 8 year olds should be playing fortnight #rcstechchat
A4 I think at school its pretty balanced. They hardest thing in my classroom is not having them get distracted by their device after we have used it for a lesson. I let them (my middle schoolers) use devices a lot for research for a picture or ideas…#rcstechchat
A4: Yes and no. I teach middle school, so there is quite a variance among the teachers as far as the use of technology goes. Some never touch it and utilize it while others incorporate it daily. I do think it needs to be regulated and tracked. #rcstechchat
A4: Probably. But not all screentime is created equal. Lots of nuance in there. But many forms of screentime are a significant contributor to mental health issues. #rcstechchat
A4: Absolutely too much screen time between school and home!! It is amazing to have high end tech tools, but I think students are on a tech overload for an entire day! #rcstechchat
Please feel free to list as many as you want...this will be helpful to us tech coaches who want to help bring you over to the tech-tacular side. #rcstechchat
A4 I think we are pretty balanced. I use devices a lot with my middle schoolers. The hardest thing I find is getting them to not be distracted by something else on their device after using it for a lesson. #rcstechchat
A5: I missed the nearpod PD, so I want to attend that along with immersive reader. Setting up lessons in a PD to take to the classroom really help too.. especially the ones that involve technology. Oh and Flip... Grid? Where you teach via video prior to the lesson #rcstechchat
A5 My coach @smithstrcs rocks with her PDs!!!! But i’d totally go to a play posit PD if you did one again (im sure I’ve already missed one!) #rcstechchat
A5: I feel like my tech coach offers a great variety of PDs but I’m just not sure how to use them with my kids in the inclusion classroom yet. #RCSTechChat
A5 Don't take this the wrong way, but I hate this question...simply bc I can never choose just one! I feel like I've had lessons on so many different tech apps/programs, but I still need help in mastering them! Just give me an option and I'll take one! #RCSTechChat
A5 I love when PD is hands-on. Gather a room full of people who do different things with googlesheets or google draw and then share ideas and TRY STUFF OUT #rcstechchat

It is FABULOUS! There is a free version that you can test out with your students. We FINALLY got the paid version this year, and I’m in love. Haha #rcstechchat
A5. @tcarey98 consistently taps with teachers about tech tools, how to use them, and co teaches an integration lesson for those interested. Personally, the best PD for me would be you have the data...how do u let it guide u #RCSTechChat
A5 I guess if I had to pick some it would be the ones that have been mentioned here tonight that I didn't know about: Canva, makerspace, etc. #RCSTechChat
Just throwing this out there: our tech coaches have offered PDs on many of the topics you've mentioned, yet we've had VERY little (no) attendance. What could we do to improve that? #RCSTechChat
I’d honestly like to categorize my ‘centers’ as ‘stations’ building, drawing, makerspace, painting so maybe in the front? Or just completely re-design my room LOLZ #rcstechchat
1 more question remaining tonight. Please remember not to rush off before you complete the form at the end. This serves as our sign in sheet. 1 minute until the last question. #rcstechchat
Final Question Question 6- Remember to add A6 before you answer and click the picture below to see the question. Don't forget to the hashtag #rcstechchat on all of your tweets ;-) Don't log off until you complete the form that will be tweeted at the end.
A6 I bet some people were anti-pencil back in the day. EMBRACE THE FUTURE IT IS NOW. Also what if a kid said, I'm scared of math. We don't let them run from learning #rcstechchat
A6-Don’t be afraid to fail. Stuff is going to go wrong but that is ok. We tell our students it is ok to make mistakes and sometimes we need to take our own advice. SEE YOUR TECH COACH FOR HELP! We really want to help! #rcstechchat
A6 Seek out your tech coach. They have a wealth of knowledge and can assist in so many ways. I also love that most are willing to come model a lesson for you. #rcstechchat
I LOVE the online PD format that they used last year. I’m excited to see what this one is like. I am an intrapersonal learner. I like to work at my own pace. #rcstechchat
A6 Seek out your tech coach. They have a wealth of knowledge and can assist in so many ways. I also love that most are willing to come model a lesson for you. #rcstechchat
A6 I would say to think about something in your classroom that you’d like to improve. Engagement? Less Paper? More organization of resources? And then see if you can find a tech solution for that. Teams and Nearpod make my life easier!!! #rcstechchat
Maybe make the PDs county wide. I would sign up for more county wide PDs if they were on specific tech programs that I needed help with. We have so many rockstar coaches and teachers in our county that can share their knowledge! #RCSTechChat
A5. @tcarey98 Consistently talks to the teachers to implement best tech practices and even co teaches integrated lessons. When good PD practices are presented to you on a silver platter, you aren’t picky! #RCSTechChat
A6 Try to do something with your students that you really want to do. If you have a passion for it, then your students will see that. Also, try it with a sense of humor. You are going to mess up! It is ok! #rcstechchat
Me too! I swear we are kindred spirits! We were sad to see office mix go...trust me we wanted it to stay but @Microsoft ...well...they had other plans. #rcstechchat
I LOVE the online PD format that they used last year. I’m excited to see what this one is like. I am an intrapersonal learner. I like to work at my own pace. #rcstechchat
A6 Now I sound all judgy, but I would try and support them with compassion. HOWEVER, I feel like people who are scared of tech and people who say "I'm not good at maths" are teaching kids that you can have an out when things are new or tough #rcstechchat
A6. YOU GOT THIS!! Just take some alone time and immerse yourself in the program. Sometimes just playing around with a new program is the best way to learn! #rcstechchat
Just a reminder that there will not be an #rcstechchat next week due to MLK Holiday. We will pick back up on the 29th with @wellertechcoach hosting a chat on Classroom Management Tools & Strategies. Please share this with other teachers! We'd love to have you back!
