  • Tibbstechcoach Apr 3 @ 8:07 PM EDT
A1-Formative assessments should guide Ts daily instruction. If Ss do not master the material, how are you going to re-present the content? It is vital to engage Ss in meaningful/effective learning activities in which the teacher is actively involved. #knowthyimpact #RCSTechChat
  • ahbragan Apr 3 @ 8:07 PM EDT
A1 We encourage our teachers to use various forms of formative assessment within every lesson. #rcstechchat
  • MsZClassroom Apr 3 @ 8:07 PM EDT
A1 I constantly use "exit tickets". These are quick assessments to see how much my students took from the lesson just taught. It also leads into what I do during small groups. #rcstechchat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • TinaArceneaux Apr 3 @ 8:07 PM EDT
A1: are students thinking critically, are they talking to each other and learning from each other. When they do that - they are learning #rcstechchat
  • mgburke Apr 3 @ 8:07 PM EDT
A1 Definitely participation and interest from the student's standpoint. Then from the assessments, I can see the full impact. #rcstechchat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • smithstrcs - Moderator Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
A1 As a tech coach, I can see my impact in the way Ss produce their digital works. Being able to see how they have interpreted a tool I've shown them and created something amazing is cool to experience! #rcstechchat
  • JlcMiller14 Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
    Thanks! I'm excited! #rcstechchat
    In reply to @mylifeasatechie
  • MrcoffmanA Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
I gauge their learning by what I see them doing in their projects, on bellwork, and exit tickets. #RCSTechChat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • martin_katyra Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
A1 I gauge my impact by asking my students questions. I am constantly asking them what they are learning to make sure they are getting the content. #rcstechchat
  • StaceyPerrin2 Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
Final weeks of school, I'm looking for calm and reflection. Is that possible?? #rcstechchat
  • treyduke Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
A1; We have to make assessing our impact a priority. The question is not just is this engaging, but is it moving our students closer to their learning goal. #rcstechchat
  • Brock8ELA Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
A1- I use data from formative assessments and daily discussion to gauge impact. #rcstechchat
  • Mrs_Kirkman Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
A1: On a daily basis I would say formative assessments and quick checks (exit tickets). But also just having conversations with the kiddos. Lately, we've been talking a lot about goals & how we know we've grown this year. #rcstechchat
  • mylifeasatechie - Moderator Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
A1- Assessing students and actively looking over data will help reveal your impact on students. Also, the positive relationships formed with students will also help impact student learning! #RCSTechChat
    • treyduke Apr 3 @ 8:06 PM EDT
Here is Q1. Remember to answer in the A1, A2...format. "I am an Evaluator of my impact!" #RCSTechChat
  • teachkjw Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
A1: We encourage teachers to use exit tickets or some kind of daily assessment to check for student mastery. #rcstechchat
  • RCS_MrHiggins Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
    #RCSTechChat
    • RCS_MrHiggins Apr 3 @ 8:08 PM EDT
A1: Being a writing teacher, I see most of the development when they complete essays. This is not daily, but I do try and gauge through a few different methods.
      In reply to @treyduke
  • LPSRister Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
A1 Checklist type assesment, anectdoal notes. #rcstechchat
  • MissFleisch Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
Daily assessment, whether formal or informal, gauges the impact of instruction. Don't just give an assessment - use the results to drive what happens in the classroom the next day! #rcstechchat
  • mylifeasatechie - Moderator Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
Those conversations are just as important as the data from the assessments! Great point! #rcstechchat
    In reply to @Mrs_Kirkman
  • Stacey76Hendo Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
A1-Having meaningful dialogue with my kids about concepts I’ve taught keeps me aware of the impact my instruction has made. #rcstechchat
  • MrcoffmanA Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
A1 I gauge their learning by what I see them doing in their projects, on bellwork, and exit tickets. #RCSTechChat #rcstechchat
  • mclifton23 Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
A1- I use data based program called Aleks in my math intervention class and this allows me to see every aspect of which they are struggling or excelling in. Really enjoy this program. #rcstechchat
  • EmilyMo68269491 Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
A1- Exit tickets are a great way to check students understanding each day. Having my kids track their own test data has been really beneficial too! #RCSTechChat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • WHSMusic1 Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
A1 Being a music teacher, I gauge a lot of my student's learning aurally. Not everything of course, but a huge chunk. #RCSTechChat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • techcoachrhs Apr 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
A1: love exit tickets and short pre tests even now to see what the ss know before we teach/research. #rcstechchat
  • CBTennyson Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1 Constantly assessing (formal/informal) the “room” to make sure Ss know what they should relearning and how they are to express it. Then assess if they can #rcstechchat
  • smswarren Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1 I use quick 7 question checkpoints that cover the standard of the day. Students answer them on a reusable sheet that fits multiple days. That way my kids and I can all see their growth as well as understanding of that day’s skill. #Rcstechchat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • MissFleisch Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
Absolutely! Student discourse is an excellent way to gauge understanding! #rcstechchat
    In reply to @TinaArceneaux

  • CentralAPHG Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
#RCSTechChat A1 Lots of questioning. Making sure Ss are comfortable asking ?s. And daily activities as low stress, informal assessments.
    In reply to @treyduke
  • adamssa_adams Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
When I see active engagement and participation from students and when I am able to see the results from assessments. I am able to see the impact that the instruction is having on the students learning. #rcstechchat #knowyourimpact
  • LuzAndreaMB Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1. Through formative assessments and exit tickets seem to be a great way to determine if goals have been achieved! #RCSTechChat
  • treyduke Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1: It is important that teachers not only provide clear learning intentions, but they have to have strong success criteria of what it will look like when they are successful. Success criteria allow students to self-evaluate and gauge their own progress. #rcstechchat
  • biles_heather Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1: At the end of each lesson, I usually ask an exit question to give me feedback on the student's level of understanding of the goal for the lesson. Also, I try to start the lesson the next day with a similar question to measure retention of the skill. #RCSTechChat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • StaceyPerrin2 Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
I'm gauging my impact by doing weekly and monthly data collection. #rcstechchat
  • lhs_track Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1: Formative assessments, of course, but those can take many forms: exit tickets, poll questions, engaging one on one with students, and/or having students self-assess their progress are just a few ways #rcstechchat
  • LScott_scms Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1- Ss must know UPFRONT how what is expected to be successful. Throughout the lesson, formative assessments help drive the instruction. Ss should also be able to evaluate their learning at lesson end. #RCSTechChat
  • RCS_MrHiggins Apr 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
#RCSTechChat Another method I use is Socrative. Having a computer lab for Writing makes this feedback very convenient and helpful.
    In reply to @treyduke

  • treyduke Apr 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
Great idea to start the next day where yesterday's exit ticket ended!

  • Tibbstechcoach Apr 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
I always had my students track their own data as well. I felt that it was important for them to know where they are and where they need to be. We set goals from this all the time. #studentownership #rcstechchat
    In reply to @EmilyMo68269491, @treyduke
  • MissFleisch Apr 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
Agreed. Positive relationships = a well-managed classroom which allows learning to occur #rcstechchat
    In reply to @mylifeasatechie

  • Julieyc8010 Apr 3 @ 8:12 PM EDT
#rcstechchat. A1- impact-seeing student learning reflected in other subjects. I ditto exit tickets...and a good ole argument.
  • mylifeasatechie - Moderator Apr 3 @ 8:12 PM EDT
Even as an adult, I appreciate knowing what the success criteria is when I am working on assignments/tasks/PD! #RCSTechChat
    In reply to @treyduke

Love a focus on growth! #rcstechchat
    In reply to @smswarren
  • Tibbstechcoach Apr 3 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A2-Professional development (not just for hours) can help Ts with new/effective strategies to use with Ss. Ts stepping out of their comfort zone to engage Ss, working in small groups, blended learning! #neverstoplearning #nevergiveup #rcstechchat
  • smithstrcs - Moderator Apr 3 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A2 Instilling a good growth mindset in my students and truly believing in them makes all the difference in the world! They need a champion for change. #rcstechchat
  • lhs_track Apr 3 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A1: the best way to learn anything about a student, including what they know about the content of the course, is always a face to face conversation. The difficulty is the time constraints of having those with every student #rcstechchat
  • LPSRister Apr 3 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A2 Celebrations for each child's growth. I have seen students with little confidence blossom with simple acknowledgement of success #rcstechchat
  • RCS_MrHiggins Apr 3 @ 8:13 PM EDT

  • TinaArceneaux Apr 3 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A2: changing the mind set. I may not get it 'yet' but I can. I see this in my students writing. Having individual data chats with students about their writing. Lets students focus on one thing rather than ALL the things. #rcstechchat
  • Mrs_Kirkman Apr 3 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A2: I like to have checkpoints along the way where students can look back at an older piece of work and compare it to something similar that was done recently. They are always shocked at how "little kid" their old writing looks. lol #rcstechchat
  • LPSRister Apr 3 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A2 Success criteria helps with leading students to the opportunities for those small celebrations. #rcstechchat
  • mylifeasatechie - Moderator Apr 3 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A2- Not giving up on our students, especially the ones that are struggling or become difficult. Helping them get out of the "pit" and teaching them to have a growth mindset shows that you believe all students can improve...because they can! #RCSTechChat
    • treyduke Apr 3 @ 8:12 PM EDT
Q2 is here. Make sure you respond with A2 and the hashtag #RCSTechChat. "I am a change agent and believe all students can improve!"

#rcstechchat. A2 goal setting! When students set their goals and reach them. Bam! I see this daily in my t2 reading group
  • MrcoffmanA Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2 I change the way I explain how to do a project to a student if they are having trouble. I also will use different ways to get across a concept such as visually, orally, tactile, etc. #rcstechchat
  • martin_katyra Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2- acknowledging accomplishments even when they are small to encourage all students. Also encouraging students to set their own goals so they can see their growth. #rcstechchat
  • StaceyPerrin2 Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2 #rcstechchat I guess I can tell there is change by how eager they are to learn more. How they respond to different methods and to me as a teacher. Since I teach special education I cannot use the "normal" methods of evaluations so I have to go with responsiveness to lessons.
  • treyduke Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
    Retweeting Q2 #rcstechchat

  • Brock8ELA Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2- Make a big deal out of any and all growth, but constantly remind kids that they can do better. If a student gets all 4s on an essay, challenge them to find the errors or use more sophisticated language/ vary transitions. #rcstechchat
  • BWilliamsESL Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A1 My student's ability to use language we have learned, independently, in speaking on academic topics and in writing allows me to see my impact and measure their growth. #RCSTechChat
  • MsZClassroom Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2 Every day I tell my students what I expect from them. Then, I encourage them by telling them I believe they are rockstars! I have had many students come back to me and tell me they know they can do it because I believe in them :) #rcstechchat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • mgburke Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2 I like the idea of collaboration in the classroom. This makes them accountable quickly. Plus, they need to know the expectation and objectives. #RCStechchat
    In reply to @treyduke
  • lhs_track Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2: you have to see them for who they can be, not just for who they are. And it must be real: you can’t fake a good opinion of someone, cause they can tell. If they know you believe in them, they’ll respond #rcstechchat
  • teachkjw Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2 I see students tracking their own data and growth. As a school, we also celebrate growth schoolwide. Also, teachers and students participating in "data chats" - knowing where they are and where they are going. #rcstechchat
  • MissFleisch Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2 - Growth mindset is not only important for students, but teachers as well. The teacher needs to believe they can have an impact on student learning and understanding #rcstechchat
  • mylifeasatechie - Moderator Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
Absolutely! They know when it is not sincere! #RCSTechChat
    In reply to @lhs_track
  • Tibbstechcoach Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
Love the individual data chats. It is amazing to see the effort from student once they know that you care enough to sit with them one on one to talk about them. #rcstechchat
    In reply to @TinaArceneaux
  • Stacey76Hendo Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
A2- Creating and maintaining high expectations in a supportive environment. Keeping that bar high while supplying the scaffolding students may need to achieve the goal. #rcstechchat
  • RCS_MrHiggins Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
#RCSTechChat A2: With remediation and enrichment classes, at the end of our day, I can spend extra time with students who work at a slower pace. I do not have the same standard for every student. I guess my only standard is to be better than the day before.
    In reply to @treyduke
  • ahbragan Apr 3 @ 8:15 PM EDT
