The goal of #wvedchat is to provide educators an opportunity to connect, share, and learn from others by engaging in conversations around issues and topics in education.
Welcome to the first #WVEdChat for 2018-2019! #Back2School Q0: Take a few seconds and introduce yourself to the chat and share one thing you want to do this year that you haven't done before.
A1: Not having my own classroom this is hard for me to answer, but in the classrooms I visit daily in my current role I see a mix of student ownership but far more teacher ownership through teacher centered learning. :-( #WVEdChat
A1: Trying to be sure it is the students. We are going over county AUP and some basic digital citizenship. @Seesaw and @Schoology is playing a big part in the lessons. Ss can comment on the post of other Ss. Real life experience. #WVEdChat
Collaboration is important! It is part of our 4 Cs. Care to share some examples of what you've done in the past to keep things student-centered? #WVEdChat
No I make the AUP fit the needs of the younger students; just because they are little doesn’t mean they aren’t afraid to try a task they surprise me daily #wvedchat
#Back2School Q2: Learning Space - Do our classrooms empower students to practice creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and contribution? If so, how? #WVEdChat
For Kinders I use the story Arthur’s Computer Disaster and talk about how Arthur’s trouble relates to school tech use. It’s also not one and done. Acceptable Use is modeled and taught all year. #WVEdChat
A2: I've seen more teachers this year getting rid of desks in exchange for tables and chairs or flexible options. It allows for more meaningful collaboration and connections among the students so that they can hit all those Cs. #WVEdChat
A3: I'm not clear on what the plans are at the school where my office is. I don't get the chance to be involved in that aspect of what the school does. :-( #WVEdChat
A2: My entire classroom design is based on having space for students to freely move around and collaborate. I try to give lots of time to communicate and I don’t restrict students from moving to a space where they collaborate best. #WVEdChat
A3: I agree with Penny, technology makes things very easy to communicate w/ families I like that if I have a question for a parent I can send them a quick message #wvedchat
A4: I recently completed a PD session with a middle school on @Flipgird. They all loved it and thought it would be fantastic for formative assessment in their classrooms. Session with an elementary school coming up on 9/20. #WVEdChat
A4: we do a lot of talking as grade levels and interventionists about the assessments that we just did w/ our kids and where they need placed #wvedchat
A4: I’ve moved out of the traditional classroom but if I was there I would probably be using the new way the county/state is testing at the beginning of the year to drive my instruction more than before. #WVEdChat
Weekly my grade level sits down to discuss our test questions so that we give them the same test question; the reading program offers 40ish Qs for 1st grade and we muddle through it #wvedchat
A4 con’t: Our School also does an amazing job with weekly “Data Teams” who are focusing on smart goals in both reading and math for each grade level #WVEdChat
A5: I would love to see teachers hop on the #podcasting bandwagon and let their students share their reflections on learning from the week or unit. Imagine how powerful it would be for a parent to hear their child share what they learning on their drive home! #WVEdChat
Q5: I teach technology, using our 1:1 iPads, and I’ve started asking students “how can you use what we learned today in your classroom?” and “how do you think you can use what you learned today in the real world?” #WVEdChat
A7: wow! Everything! When I started teaching I couldn’t wait to get into the school I teach at; I understand why nobody leaves; these kids and the staff become apart of your soul and your life and sticks w/ you #wvedchat
