Hi Everyone! I'm Barbara, co-host of #rethink_learning, host of my podcast, Conversations on Learning and a dreamer. I live in Oakland, CA where my power went out several times today. Hoping power stays on during this chat.

A1: My hopes are for my family to stay healthy and be happy, to see peace in the world, and the kindness movement spreading. My dreams I plan to pursue is to complete my book that I’ve been always wanting to write and become a better speaker. #rethink_learning

Hi all...a cold morning here in India...I am Aprajita Ralli from Delhi NCR...I teach History to the secondary School students. I am a grade level coordinator and I dream of being an instructional coach some day soon .

A1: Hopes and dreams center on collaborating meaningfully with more teachers and students around the globe to help unify the power and vision of the #TeachSDGs
My hopes and dreams for 2019 include for a group of my students who have not experienced success on ANY of the Regents exams in HS thus far to be successful on the US History exam. I am their biggest cheerleader! #rethink_learning

A2: Intentional self-discipline. It is about a specific plan with a routine that is challenging, but realistic. I have many motivators in place for myself along the way. I have allowed myself to fall in love with writing in 2018...So...

A2 - Being positive and helping kids love learning comes with modeling those actions and words. Students will follow our lead.
I’ve finished most of my book and now am working with my editor to fine tune things. It’s very exciting!

A2: I have a schedule that I am going to stick to but be sure to fit in time for family and friends and personal fulfillment. For example, writing at least an hour a day, going to library to write my book so I can focus, chip away a little at a time. #rethink_learning

A2: whatever they need to get them be successful... and one of those things is helping them to learn how to have confidence in themselves and that they CAN do this.

A2: My strategies to achieve my dream to become a better speaker are (1) submit proposals around ideas in my book (2) listen to TedTalks and keynotes of people I admire (3) add my own thoughts as short briefs on my podcast and Alexa and (4) get a coach.#rethink_learning
A2: continue to look at and revisit my ‘words’. Continue learning and connecting with others. I’ve learned so much from twitter and getting connected with others. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone. #rethink_learning

A2- My hopes/dreams are: my family & kids/ss are happy & healthy. That we are able to come together as a country. We learn to disagree in a kind way, and spread love and peace. I hope that I continue to grow professionally. I would like to start a blog/podcast. #rethink_learning

A2: Remain connected with #pln, seek out opps to extend out of my comfort zone, and sharpen my skill set saw and be courageous to try. Believe in myself and my dreams! These are selfish but I want my daughters to be happy in whatever they are doing( college, hs)#rethink_learning

A3: we've done vision boards, community circles, blogging, exposure to a variety of literature both fiction and non-fiction, guest speakers come in, listening to podcasts, watching TED Talks... #rethink_learning
A3 - We always promote open dialogue and a totally judge free class. Students must know they have a voice. It’s not enough to talk about it, we must shape and encourage it. Showcase great examples of fellow students. We just did a best friend letter. Amazing!! #rethink_learning
A3: Young people need parameters for goals, hopes, and dreams. They need intentional direction to help them believe in themselves enough to create what they hope for and trust their dreams. We can be real with them about ours to give them a model.

A3 It's so imp 4 S to share their hopes and dreams with others in cultures of trust. Talk is the first step in writing while choice leads #stuvoice to be amplified. Ss who are empowered to articulate their hopes and dreams project their thoughts more freely. #rethink_learning
A3: When one is given an opp to work out of their wheelhouse, it's a struggle but that's when they realize what their true potential is. Giving Ss( or anyone for that matter) these opportunities, they begin to dream bc they begin to imagine what's possible. #rethink_learning

We use thinking maps! We spend a lot of time talking about our strengths, how we want to feel at school, and the causes and consequences of obstacles and goals. #rethink_learning

A3- A couple of my teachers have their ss send home weekly reflections to their parents this is a great way to involve parents! Other teachers have digital portfolios.

If you limit the scope of one's imagination, have them do the same things, no growth, no change, they can't imagine anything outside of that. The ONLY way is to give #chances to try and fail and eventually achieve their dreams but also surpass them. #rethink_learning

A3 Encourage Ss to articulate their hopes & dreams:
1⃣Developing your relationships with S
2⃣Promote a supportive learning community
3⃣Daily Goal setting & lots of of self-evaluation
4⃣Providing moments in the day for quiet mindfulness reflection

#rethink_learning A3: Don't shy away from global/community realities. Kids want to feel empowered to seek truths. Hopes/dreams tend to flow/find deeper meaning in less narcissistic ways. Kids more than not want to link success to community when given the chance. Parents too.
A3: I take time in my class not just to teach Spanish but to teach life. I love moments where a question sparks a conversation about science, history, art, etc. We never know what moment in our classes might ignite a young mind to explore a future passion.

A3-I feel kiddos need to be given opportunities to share/discuss their goals. We share them during class meetings & write them on @Seesaw This year o had my ss write #oneword goals w/steps to achieve them. We then are creating bulletin board to help encourage #rethink_learning

Transform - transform from working in schools to being expat Aussie - from working as educator in to being a student again at uni- citizen to resident in new country - so many ways I am in the process of transforming

A1: I want to do two things: inspire my student leadership group to build on and continue the momentum for creating a more connected campus from last year and personally I want to write more - articles, and begin on a book! #rethink_learning

A3: I love this question. Today I led my students in writing about a goal that would make them nervous to actually achieve. More of a dream really. (I tweeted about earlier). Definitely beat the normal writing prompts that I come up with! #rethink_learning
A3: #whatif we did assessment like what happens in the real world? Collect evidence of your learning, artifacts of how you assessed the process as you learned, reflections on what worked/ didn't work & why. Let assessment be more authentic. #formativechat#rethink_learning
