Good morning warriors!
#EduGladiators keeps the momentum going in March with our very own Core Warrior @Rdene915 helping us keep it fresh in our instruction!
But first, roll call!
Who's here?
Share your name & how/where you 'gladiate' 4 Ss!
Good Morning #BookCampPD and #edugladiators Looking forward to a good chat while I finish up my workout. Brent from Alberta as the snow finally is starting to melt. Let the flooding begin...
"How would the relationships around you improve if we took a good look at our own self-awareness, management, social awareness, & the way that they made others feel & how each area impacted the decisions we made on a daily basis in every situation?"

John from Mexico City where I am the Head of an international American School! Spending time with my fellow #edugladiators is such a great way to start the weekend! Let the games begin!
After time out of Saturday morning chat pool, I'm cannonballing into #bookcamppd, #edugladiators, #nt2t, I'm Brian. I teach MS students English in Colorado.
🙋♀️🙋♂️New to Twitter Chats? Qs drop as Q1...Q2... & you answer A1...A2... Don't forget to include #EduGladiators hashtag & follow @EduGladiators where ALL of our Qs drop from!
Good morning #edugladiators#bookcamppd Naomi Austin from SW Missouri. Ready to learn from the most wonderful educators on Twitter. Anyone that starts a Saturday thinking about growth is my kind of people.
Here’s a pre-apology to all my fellow #EduGladiators, #leadupchat, and #leadlap folks. I’m already up and fully caffeinated ☕️☕️☕️☕️ 🤓 so you know my tweets will be fully loaded...or leaded. Depends on how you see it...
A1: I am having to learn to embrace the madness. Work in engaging lessons, balance the work with the activities and interruptions. We might not love the sports and other things interrupting but the kids need that break to deal with the tests. #edugladiators
Hey #edugladiators ! first time in this chat and attempting two at a time this morning.. Sarah from Cincy here
A1: laughing! Taking the time to listen to a Ss joke or story and enjoying them helps me get through this time of the year
A1: I try to incorporate S activities and spring type themes into our routine. Make it relevant and relatable for the Ss and they stay more engaged. #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators
A1: Try to remember the phrase, "Do only what only you can do!" Spring cleaning means trying to complete prior commitments rather than taking on new ones! #edugladiators
A1: Sometimes we just need to independently read. I brought in lamps and candles, turned off the lights and set up cozy spots in the room. Such a relaxing day. #edugladiators
A1: I was thinking about this yesterday and that is a good time to be in kindergarten. The stress of state testing is real. This year, I get to celebrate growth with joy. #EduGladiators
Hi Teresa. I miss being super active but I have to get my work done. It’s exhausting to juggle everything. I can’t even wake up a 5:30 because I’m up late every night working on my courses. #EduGladiators
Good morning from MD! This is my first week of participating in Twitter chats. So fun! I teach 7/8 English & Digital Communications. Might be in and out as the kids awoke earlier than usual to start fighting, and may have to rescue hubby. #EduGladiators#BookCampPD
A1. I save the most fun units (if I can) with the best labs for the last quarter unless there is a department order to content. I also use a flipped classroom and I have seen the cases of “senioritis” drop in most instances. #EduGladiators
#edugladiators A1) I read a blog about SPARKLE today. Keep those lessons popping now more than ever. I was observing in a classroom the other day and they were identifiying main idea and supporting sentences through a mystery: The prinicpal had been kidnapped. So fun!
A1: the best way to keep the momentum going is to connect what is happening in the classroom with what is going on in the “real world.” This lends itself to social studies, but we are in fact living in one giant “teachable moment” and need to seize on that. #EduGladiators
A1: as a principal I set the tone for the day for Ss and staff — I have to show them enthusiasm and passion daily! No frustration allowed —yikes hard to do but I try #EduGladiators
A1: For our staff, we have a fun activity planned that will hopefully be an encouragement and motivating as we finish the last 9 weeks. For me, just treating it like any other time of year! #EduGladiators
#EduGladiators A1. I remember in my schooling experience that we were often rewarded after the standardadized testing season was over! We had incredible guidance counselors/ teachers to keep us motivated and didn’t overwork us after or before our testing period!
#PBL and fun. Make sure you and your students are having FUN and learning all at the same time! And any time kids can help find solutions to real world problems is golden! #edugladiators
A1: We need to remember what it feels like to be a student at this time. How can we make test prep fun, individualized, and not scary? How can prep students but still focus on what's really important - our students and their needs? #edugladiators
A1 Consistency. Keeping the classroom consistent when the Ss world is not is key. Also, I love to do spring science activities to keep my kinders engaged at the end of they day. #IHMarchMadness#edugladiators
A1: Make purposeful/intentional plan for Mar-May for strong finish. Expand the team to lead and communicate importance of meaning finale for the year’s growth/learning 📚 #edugladiators#satchat
Thanks Elaine, it’s hard to say no... we didn’t lose power with all these storms... thankful... but kids missed 6 days of school 😱😱 We’ve played boardgames, cards, colored, baked brownies, anything & everything to keep up the learning #edugladiators
A1 definitely being open to Ss feedback, what are their interests, what helps them to learn best, also try some new tools in class, or tae some risks with teaching the lessons #edugladiators
A1: It's a great time for my dept to play catch up and get a jump start on planning for our summer professional learning that we'll offer to teachers. In the classrooms, I'm reaching out to primary grades that don't have standardized testing. #Edugladiators
A1. Expansion of activities. More voice and choice. Lots of project based learning (PBL) for students to truly expand knowledge through authentic collaboration. #EduGladiators
A1: I check my stress level and do my best to not project it on to my kids. As a grade 10 teacher here in WA, my students test all spring long. They are under enough stress, so I check mine. For me spring becomes a time to culminate and celebrate our work. #EduGladiators
Good morning, #EduGladiators!
Victor from San Francisco...
It's still early on the West Coast. Hoping my tweets are comprehensible. My brain is sluggish.
(Tweets are my own, but my gov't is run by Russia & supported by the NRA!
SORRY-couldn't resist even though I'm a #Resistor)
Here’s a pre-apology to all my fellow #EduGladiators, #leadupchat, and #leadlap folks. I’m already up and fully caffeinated ☕️☕️☕️☕️ 🤓 so you know my tweets will be fully loaded...or leaded. Depends on how you see it...
A1: Great time to reflect on how far things have come since the 1st day of school! Recognizing those wins are a great way to keep the motivation going. #edugladiators
A1 Continue to keep the Ss engaged. In my resource room we have brief seesions w/interruptions and short attention spans already. Lessons need to remain powerful and interesting. #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators
A1. I think it’s so important to engage students by giving them multiple opportunities to express themselves and make their voices heard. When we go into test prep mode before testing we inadvertently kill the joy of learning. Why not do passion projects instead? #EduGladiators
A1: This is also an important time to think about staff morale. Show your staff you care and support them. Maybe leave a surprise note or treat, have a "field trip"/outing instead of PD, coffee/breakfast, etc! Make sure staff knows you understand! #edugladiators
A1 When all the insanity starts I usually run a theme in language & math like camping or restaurants with a lot of open ended activities to facilitate all the comings & goings. S’s are engaged #EduGladiators
A1: What keeps me going is knowing that every day in every classroom great instruction & learning counts every day & for every student. From the moment the first bell rings to the last--every moment counts. #EduGladiators
A1. It’s important to establish a balance. Have to take it a day at a time. Enjoy the process. It is easy to fall when trying to sprint to the finish line. Focus on the now. #edugladiators
A1 after 3/4 of the year playing my games I am letting students create their own board games! So interesting to see what mechanics they are including. Can't wait to play 'Combies' where we have to 'Contain the Spread of Cold War Communist Zombies'! #EduGladiators
I love flexible seating! We have yoga balls ($5 from 5 Below), yoga mats ( $3 from 5 below!), a rug, standing stations, and 2 fit desks. #EduGladiators
A1 I love LOVE asking questions. You can call me nosy but it’s my way of making the kids feel important. I get through these months by asking them about soccer, baseball, softball, or the bowling league they joined. They love to give me updates & I love to hear it. #EduGladiators
A1 Spring is when we prepare for our annual International Festival. ELs and Lang Ss love this time. Most of our activities connect to the festival. #edugladiators
A1) Look forward to hearing some ideas. Use #AppleEDUChat & #EduGladiators to build weekly momentum. Spring is also #edCamp season which helps with momentum and collaboration.
A1 When my attention is orienting magnetically to what's wrong, I can re-direct it to what's right. I have more control over my attitude than just about anything else. #edugladiators
A1: Luckily, we don't have those time constraints in PreK. However, we are heavily into reviewing what we've learned and headed into planting & growing, life cycles, and our five senses! #EduGladiators

A1 - I saw a S from 20 years ago this past week. She was my sons nurse at hospital. She thanked me for encouraging her and said it was the reason she became a nurse ... one statement goes a long way. #edugladiators
A2) We are using #Voxer to provide instant feedback to educators in the building. This removes the stigma of trying to determine the tone of the email. #EduGladiators
A2. You must re-emphasize your classroom expectations, teach with the same enthusiasm as you did @ the beginning of the year & keep Ss busy! #EduGladiators
A1: Leaders who court momentum display a set of attitudes that help them reach new altitudes. First, they take responsibility for outcomes. They don’t blame failures on their people or on forces beyond their control. #EduGladiators

I would agree. Lots of laughter. I learned to do the yo-yo a couple of days ago. My kiddos think I'm crazy because I was excited. "I did it," I shouted with glee and a squeel. They should be showing glee in the classroom also. #EduGladiators#bookcamppd
A1: Playing games & changing your seating around is always a great idea in the spring to keep things fresh! Focus on the positive instead of all that’s crammed in this short period before Spring Break. #EduGladiators
A1: Don't ignore what is going on outside of the classroom. Give time and space for students to process and discuss what's happening in the community, country, and world. #edugladiators
A1: Second, leaders who generate momentum operate with an empowering sense of hope. They shape their surroundings instead of merely being shaped by them. They believe in the possibility of change instead of complaining about challenges to it. #EduGladiators

A2: @classcraftgame completely changed my classroom management skill.
Classcraft brings gamification into the classroom in 1 platform. So amazing! #EduGladiators
A1 Maintain the momentum by changing up instructional routines/activities! Use stations and gallery walks to get students up and moving throughout the class period. Also, Spring is a great time to take field trips, service learning, etc.! #EduGladiators
A2 There have been 2 newer tools we used, @Flipgrid@buncee which really expanded the collaboration and creativity for Ss when completing their #pbl more authentic learning #edugladiators
A2: Ive done Flipgrid and green screen. The Ss LOVE making videos of themselves. Booksnaps was fun too. I’m introducing book creator next week and I think they will enjoy that. #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators#BookSnaps
A1: Finally, leaders who drive momentum have unfailing enthusiasm. They’re convinced of the importance of their work, and this sense of purpose propels them forward. #EduGladiators

Completely agree. Here is my next couple days: Opening girls soccer game this afternoon, State Championship BB game this evening, JV baseball Monday, Fiddler on the Roof musical next weekend. #edugladiators
A2 Just recently started using @mstranslator It allows my beginning Ss to communicate with each other. Spanish speakers communicating with Arabic speakers is pretty cool. Also just discovered @TalkingPointsEd Hoping this will help improve parent communication. #EduGladiators
A1. Imagine what might happened if we focused on student agency during this time of year by asking students: What have you mastered? What improvement have you shown and how did you go about improving? What are your growth opportunities? That might change the game! #EduGladiators
A1: We also find opportunities for students to have extra recess time!!! They need more opportunity to run and have unstructured creative play! #edugladiators
A1 Breaking the week into small chunks makes things more manageable. In terms of time, the big picture can overwhelm. Snapshots seem accessible and doable to me. #edugladiators
A2 my biggest tech enhancement was my Dreadsheet Boss Battles and various off shoots using Google Sheets. Also done digital lock puzzles with Google Forms and videos with Adobe Sparks. #EduGladiatorshttps://t.co/k4hwAIdlG7
Q2: #edugladiators We used @Flipgrid during #globalreadaloud last fall. It allowed us to share book discussions w/classes in different timezones: see their faces, hear their voices = community building!
A2) Adding a few bots has really built excitement for young adults. @Sphero mini and Cozmo allow Ss to take risks because this is new learning for all - no one had previous experience. Great to practice collaboration!! #EduGladiators
A2) I also use #Voxer as a communication tool for a Morning Message for the entire staff. The use of Voxer was an organic process and now only 4 classroom educators do not have Voxer. #EduGladiators
A2: I am good at introducing new things but I don't stick with it enough. I need to be better incorporating Flipgrid and Canva. I want to try Buncee and padlet. #edugladiators
A1) It’s an important lesson to learn, doing something that you don’t want to do, but have to... we talk about this & HOW we can make it enjoyable, then we try their ideas @GoNoodle is top of list & daily #edugladiators
A1. Imagine what might happen if we focused on student agency during this time of year by asking students: What have you mastered? What improvement have you shown and how did you go about improving? What are your growth opportunities? That might change the game! #EduGladiators
A2: I sometimes use primary source sets -- a set of images that have a common theme. Students explore the common theme and then investigate how each picture connects with the common theme. The answers are not always obvious. Like an educational game of Clue! #edugladiators
A2 @Flipgrid for Playing Assignments and the upcoming March Madness Challenge! The students love the ability to "do it" again. They practice becuase they hear their feedback. We are getting great results! #EduGladiators
A2 I tried @Flipgrid can I just say the kids absolutely loved it! It was a Literacy Response game changer! In April, I’m going to introduce Flipgrid to some of my coworkers. Hoping to build some excitement in amplifying students’ voice. #EduGladiators
A2: @ericcurts gave me the idea to create a Google Sheet with the class. THAT was entertaining watching them in a collaborative document. I love it! #edugladiators
A2: I think a great and simple standby are self-assessment games like Kahoot... quick and easy to set up... and I love watching my middle schoolers be silly, laugh, have fun and get a little friendly competition going. #EduGladiators
A2 @Seesaw has made the biggest and most positive impact of my teaching thus far! The choice it provides to Ss in showing what they know and allowing me to give quick, individual feedback is amazing! #EduGladiators
You’re so welcome! They have pillows and all sorts of things. Requires us to be a little creative but I am in love with that place. :) #eduawesome#edugladiators

@TracyMailloux, @teresagross625, @Rdene915
A2: My students loved creating work in their digital portfolios, but I admit we haven't done as much lately. I need to jump on it, because it is so exciting for them to get feeback from their families. #EduGladiators
A2: A lot of Ts at our school have started using @Flipgrid the kids love it and I hear nothing but positives from the Ts that use it. Being able to practice verbal skills is key as it translates to written ability... and they’re having fun doing it! #EduGladiators
#EduGladiators A2. When observing high school classrooms, I’ve noticed that a lot of teachers are starting to use Twitter. A history class that I observed recently made twitter accounts as 19th century reformers and tweeted their quotes and ideas then presented in costume!
A1 Cont. For the adults to maintain momentum, it's important to prioritize self-care so we don't run ragged. It's not good for us nor the kiddos! #EduGladiators
A1: Keep the main message for strong finish for school year in all communications so it’s woven into the campus culture #EduGladiators@edugladiators#satchat
A2: I also simple and engaging card games every once in a while -- something that provides a brain brake but are also tied to problem solving and good socialization. #edugladiators
A2: The big tech excitement in our district this year has been through #Nearpod Ss love all of the interactivity & Ts love the collaboration, data, variety of activities, +++
Other tech that is gaining momentum is @Edulastic@Flipgrid@Office365@SAFARIMontage#Edugladiators
A2 We recently started using Flipgrid! Ss enjoy sharing their reflections and responses. It gives them a sense of audience and they learning how to support their thoughts. #edugladiators
A2. Answering from a different perspective as a state level education leader...but executing the courage to start my own podcast, website, and publish a book ignited a spark in me as an educator. It’s all a part of my passion project. #EduGladiators
A1 I like to increase movement in the classroom whether that’s games or stations. Also like to give challenges that Dont have just one correct answer (opposite of state testing). Choice boards are great too! #edugladiators
A1. I would say feedback and cooperative learning for the win. Homework stands out, but in the negative sense as an unnecessary instructional strategy. Is it ironic or intentional that if viewed as a bingo board, "HW" is on the "free space"? #BookCampPD#EduGladiators#DitchHW
Q1. Many of Marzano's instructional strategies are also detailed in the books we have been discussing. Which one stands out the most to you? Why? #BookCampPD
A1: To keep the momentum going through the "Spring slump", I empathize openly w/ our team as to where we are all at-Spring slump, but try to build on the energy & drive of our collaboration&teamwork & remind everyone we are stronger together-to support each other.
#EduGladiators
A2. So many tech opportunities. As a 1-1 iPad school most of our work goes through Google Classroom but lots of integration through Seesaw, Nearpod and other tech avenues. #EduGladiators
A2: Some fully wired schools actually do some no-device days as a way to step away from screens and do hands-on explorations inside and outside of v the classroom! This can be liberating! #edugladiators
I love this! I believe it’s so important to tap into the metacognitive skills so Ss grow to become independent learners as they reflect to grow. A lifelong skill to prepare them for the future. #EduGladiators
A1. Imagine what might happen if we focused on student agency during this time of year by asking students: What have you mastered? What improvement have you shown and how did you go about improving? What are your growth opportunities? That might change the game! #EduGladiators
A3: This doesn't necessarily answer the question as asked, but include an exit ticket request for one idea for students for improving a lesson and there will be all kinds of new ideas available! 😀 #edugladiators
A3 Was attempting to have students read and look for verb tenses, focus on past tense narration, but they didn't read, only looked for the . verbs #edugladiators
A3: While co-teaching we overplanned. Instead of slowing down and going for quality, we excitedly pushed forward and allowed ourselves to focus on quantity. Next time, we adjusted to make sure the students didn't feel rushed. #edugladiators
A2: at 7:45 daily I try tomake my first round of the day—I try to say good morning to all Tt at Frenchtown Elem! This gives my a second or two with Each teacher! They notice when I don’t make it to there rooms—this sets the tone for the day #EduGladiators
A3: We are currently in Balancing Chemical Equations and I wish I had given my students a whiteboard, put a problem up, and had them analyze/annotate/infer on what was going on with the equation. #edugladiators
A2 We're using the Equity Maps app to track participation in Socratic Seminar. Gives T and S real-time data and who's talking, what kind of comments/questions they're offering, how long they're talking and to whom. Powerful metacognitive tool! #edugladiators

I forgot about Seesaw! Opps! @Seesaw has so much to offer teachers, students, and parents. It's a great way for Ss to take ownership in their learning! #EduGladiators
#edugladiators A2: It's not the tool, it's how you use it. I'm using Google-docs for "Mathacognition." Bi-weekly reflections on emotions, learning process, self-evaluation and reflection, etc. Ss respond to prompts. I reply, etc.. Personal relationship with each S. HUGE payoff.
A3: I love my structure as I teach 2 different 8 LA classes back to back. This week we looked at a poem and things were bumpy, I incorporated some group talk time the 2nd round and it went better. Next day we took another kick at the process with the first group. #edugladiators
A3: I switched to guided math and it’s helped tremendously. High S are getting more enrichment, low S get more one on one support. S are loving it and understanding skills better. #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators
I do too. Keep having dreams that I am back in the classroom too! Maybe that’s where these ideas are coming from and after all being a teacher is and will always be my first love! #EduGladiators
A3. That one morning our 1-1 iPad school lost power for several hours. No Google anything, no internet, no iPad access. Pedagogy in full effect school wide. So many Ts rose to the occasion. #EduGladiators
A2 @Flipgrid is a quick easy way to curate student voice. I would like to learn about successful and sustained HS experiences in this venue. #edugladiators
A2: Sometimes it’s not always about trying a new tech tool, but pulling out a golden oldie favorite to balance all the tech used in class like foldables ✂️
This can be a welcome break from over use of same tech tools by teachers.
#EduGladiators
A3: While co-teaching we overplanned. Instead of slowing down and going for quality, we excitedly pushed forward and allowed ourselves to focus on quantity. Next time, we adjusted to make sure the students didn't feel rushed. #edugladiators
A3: reflecting on a bigger issue I’m seeing in classrooms is the continued reluctance to engage students in discussions that deal with their personal self-care. Struck by how some teachers didn’t deviate from lesson plans following Parkland when students (1/2) #EduGladiators
A3 I recently taught a 3rd grade math lesson. Not that it didn’t go well but I had some technical difficulties finding the right pages to project. No fear I asked the experts! The kids totally laughed at me but they showed me how to maneuver the site. It was fun! #EduGladiators
A2 Check out Plickr, Ed Puzzle, and SeeSaw! I hear great things about utilizing Recap as a tool for e-storyboarding (especially in HS but can apply to MS too!). #EduGladiators
A1 Get outside/away from the standardized approach. Stare at clouds, looking for budding flowers, listen to songbirds, and use these moments for journaling, to inspire "non-academic" discussion, and If needed connect to texts that expound on these themes #edugladiators#ditchbook

A3: As an IC, I did a presentation back in January and something I could’ve done differently was let the audience get a little more immersed in it. I would’ve allowed them more time to work with the tools/ideas I was giving. #EduGladiators
A3 Attempted to introduce "new" note in the 6th Grade. Too fast... no repition, no modeling, no chance for failure. Assumptions are killers. Then new song with the note... Yikes! #EduGladiators
A1: Obviously spring break helps divide up the semester. Revisiting expectations and offering fun, new rewards or incentives helps keep behaviors in check. #edugladiators
I have fallen into that trap! #edugladiators
I use something I learned called 1st draft and 2nd draft reading. 1st draft reading you just read the text. 2nd draft reading you practice your skills and strategies.
Q2 I introduced Google Classroom & Google slides. Each Ss works on a slide & then we watch the slide show at end. The kinders are ROCKING it & BEGGING for more!!! We've done #BookSnaps, worked with our high frequency words & number order is next. #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators
A1: Leaders build a culture favorable to momentum in the following ways. First, they believe the best about their people—concentrating on developing their strengths rather than on fixing their shortcomings. #culturize#EduGladiators

I so agree with you and we don’t do this often enough. We’re so busy pouring information in that students (and teachers) can become unconsciously robotic and cognitively disengaged-going through the motions. Metacognition is a power strategy. #EduGladiators
A3. Teaching Lewis dots for polyatomic ions (first year teaching chem in like 12 years). Totally forgot to tell them a step I was doing and lost 22/24 students. Made a flowchart that night, caught my “mistake” and gave them the flow chart. Problem solved. #EduGladiators
I recently added music to transition time. The Ss have the length of the song to get them to the where they need to be with the supplies they need to learn. Many dance as they move. They are all where they need to be when the music stops. #EduGladiators
A3 Having Ss using @newsela to build reading skills but having a lot of trouble getting the students to thoroughly read the article, annotate it, and do writing topic before taking the quiz. They just want to jump in and get the quiz done. Any suggestions? #edugladiators
Educators must make an effort to weave student voice and choice into most learning tasks. Genius Hour/Passion Projects are PERFECT for this!!
#edugladiators
A3: Most of my "littles" have learned all of their letter sounds. A few of the younger ones aren't quite there yet. I did a whole group lesson on onset and rime and lost a handful of Ss. I realized that this is something I need to do during small goup. #EduGladiators

A3 Explored moon phases last week. Needed to work on better room darkening techniques for demos. But we had great discussions about limitations of models! #EduGladiators#NGSS
#EduGladiators A3. I recently taught my first lesson about rhythm, rhyme scheme, and poetry. The students participated. However, it seemed incredibly redundant. I also struggled with timing my lesson beforehand in my lesson plan. The students/myself got tired halfway through.
A1: Second, they provide an inspiring vision that’s contagious. They share it confidently and talk about it continually, until everyone on the team sees it almost as clearly as they do. #culturize#EduGladiators

A3 - in my AP Bio class - we have been doing mock exams even though we have not covered all material. Opportunity I see what they already know and by comparing to previous exams - see growth #EduGladiators
A2. All of my reading this week has been through Twitter, and I am vowing to do MORE and hope to find educators who are interested in connecting our classrooms and students for virtual discussions and learning via @SkypeClassroom@Flipgrid or other technology. #bookcamppd
Q2. Lean back for a minute and think of all of the professional material you have read this week. What are your thoughts about it? Any changes you would like to make? #BookCampPD
A1: partner creative writings.. cross curricular projects w/ my team teacher. (Trip to Disney - math calculations- cost of tickets, family members...persuasive letter regarding trip, journal about trip)
Try to print the articles. You can make a class set, put them in one of the sheet protectors, give them a dry erase marker, and let them read/annotate/discuss. THEN give them a quiz you have written or the @Newsela quiz to take. #edugladiators
A3 we tried one #socraticseminar that started to devolve into traditional knowledge-sharing and argument. Had to stop & reboot with a bit more teacher-modeling and scaffolded practice #EduGladiators

A3: I learned very quickly in my role that it is important to teach to the individual, not the collective group. When I work with Ts I try to make sure that I'm including something that will appeal to ALL Ts not just core classroom Ts. It makes the PL meaningful. #Edugladiators
A2 recently used @padlet to have Ss from different schools collaborate. I love to bring professionals and experts into classrooms via @neprisapp to bring some excitement in.
#EduGladiators
I'm thrilled to announce our forthcoming #HackLearning slow Twitter chat. We want to take what we learn in the live chat on #Sunday mornings and put it into action during the week and share our progress.
Please help us name the new spinoff chat for #teachers in this quick #poll
A3: we started one school/one book project this week with The Wild Robot @itspeterbrown it has been awesome the community, Tt, and all 700 k-6 students are loving it! Needed break from our daily routines #EduGladiators
A4 It is okay to make mistakes, better to take some risks, try new things and fail, revise and reflect, than to do the same thing you've always done #edugladiators
So do the kids although they might not have scissors and markers on hand because they tend to lean completely to digital. Good teachers always have bins of supplies👌🏾! Plus tech/internet can go out any minute of the day & learning shouldn’t stop. Great backup! #EduGladiators
A3:#edugladiators Used Chris VanAllsburg book The Stranger (great book) to model inferencing. I should have built up the mystery & engaged S voice more in the process. Instead I got some of this...
A3 This week we were trying to convert units of length measurements. Next week I will try to give more opportunities to practice measuring in different units to see the similarities and differences. #edugladiators
Waiting until after the lesson to make a change is too late ... we have to be able to make adjustments on the fly. Having taught MS/HS sometimes those lessons have to be adjusted by class period because of the students sitting in the room #edugladiators
A3, Ss reflections are taken during lessons. I comment on their feedback AND incorporate it as we move forward. Include presentation of info, due dates, clarifying ideas, etc. #EduGladiators
A1: Challenge lessons where kids can have some competition between my other classes and between the class and the teacher. They really get into it. I had kids standing on desks, taking sides, and debating a comma last year! #EduGladiators
Yes - often we ‘analyze’ the data to make conclusions about Ss learning when Ss may have the answers to their own ‘individual’ strengths or strategies for learning and growing. #EduGladiators
A4: Remember why you chose this profession and don't forget to have fun as my friend @D4Griffin3 reminds us. He constantly inspires and challenges me. Thanks DG! #edugladiators
Just go these in the mail yesterday. I'll be starting Culturize book study on Monday. @mlarson_nj@casas_jimmy Can't wait to learn more. Ramping up on Culture before going to my new school district in August. #bookcamppd#EduGladiators
A3) Writing a letter to explain concerns about managed IDs, using professional voice. They froze feeling unqualified to put voice to paper. Next time I would have them make videos or use @FlipGrid to share. #EduGladiators
A4: I did the one word challenge this year. My word INTENTION. All I’ve done this year for myself or my students I’ve done with an intention and I feel it’s paid off! It’s kept me motivated and excited and I haven’t fallen to all the stressors. #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators
A4 I keep a file older of than-you notes and other reminders from students for when I need to re-center and re-energize. Reminding myself of the positive impact I cn have always gets me out of a rut #edugladiators
A2. I’m such a tech junkie! ❤️❤️❤️ all tools and ❤️ blended purposeful learning 🤔🤔🤔. Haven’t really used any new but ❤️ @nightzookeeper@flipgrid@Classkick. Kids use multiple digital tools when working on @geniushour projects, stem...
#edugladiators
A4: I think this works. I can't remember who said it but I picked it up and Canva created after a chat with @OnStageKimberly on Brave Leadership and think it is a good reminder to try new things to engage our students. #edugladiators
Big thanks to everyone in the arena this morning! Be sure to follow the warriors in the chat who pushed your thinking snd/or inspired you with their responses! This is the BEST way to grow your PLN! #EduGladiators
A2: I haven’t used it yet, but I plan to use Pear Deck after hearing about it at a department share out meeting. It is interactive and looks awesome. #EduGladiators
My updated collection of tech-infused #GeniusHour resources is here:
https://t.co/Dt1ZCUrDA7
There are tons of digital tools linked for students to curate, create, and share content!
#EduGladiators
#EduGladiators A4: My favorite quotes are by the late Educator & Advocate 👩🏽🏫 Dr. Rita F. Pierson
🎓Every child deserves a champion
🔗Power of connection
🍎Learning should bring joy
👩🏻🏫We are Educators & we were born to make a difference
🙋🏽♂️👩🏽🎓I am somebody❗️
A3: A faculty mtg I planned around #oneword2018 didn't go as I had hoped. I tried to get too much in, including using a Padlet & explaining HyperDocs. I over planned. Next time I'd stick to one unless it was a full day PD. #edugladiators
A3: I recently introduced ab academic and behavior tracking document as part of study skills. It went just meh because I thought it was self-explanatory. I really needed to project a copy and model how to fill it out. Such a silly mistake! #edugladiators
#EduGladiators:
Please ch go out my new hook available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle. The #call2action4ed chat based on the book starts Tuesday, March 13 at 7:00 pm est. Join us and order the book here: https://t.co/BodQc4FTqt
A2: Our team has been using @Seesaw w/ our Ss & LOVING THEIR Ss' work as well as the tool. It allows Ss to make videos & share them w/ the T & the class. Our team has been piloting using the video as an assessment of our #ELs' progress in English Language Dev't.
#EduGladiators
#EduGladiators A4. I think it’s important for a teacher’s passion to remain consistent throughout the year. Students’ attitudes are a reflection of the teacher’s attitude.
Signing off now! Thank you so much for having me!
A3: I did what I thought was great lesson on CVC words. Ss seemed to understand, were participating and then were not able to replicate it in their writing. Some just aren't ready, but for those who are, I am looking for something new. #EduGladiators
A3: I’m working through the sonday manual w/a 4th grader who has dyslexia. Last week he had to trace the textured letters and say the corresponding sound. He was not a fan of that one- gave me a few eye rolls. #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators
A4. Lately, I've been reflecting on Simon Sinek's Golden Circle idea, which prompts us to reflect on the "why" behind our work. Actively naming my "why" and recalling what I stand for as an educator inspires me daily! #EduGladiators
A4 Cont. Also, staying connected professionally, having a regular routine of reflection and feedback from those I admire, respect, and work with. Super helpful in this long Spring stretch! #EduGladiators
A4: Proverbs 3:5-6 -- Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. #edugladiators
A4: “We need to make the positives so loud, that the negatives are almost impossible to hear” i watched a podcast of a keynote by @gcouros i think this just resonated #EduGladiators

Great Chat today #EduGladiators. Keep the #Momentum Going. Learning is not about the Test and Testing does not have to be "boring" YOU Make the difference.
Amazing chats #BookCampPD and #edugladiators! Thank you so much for sharing some amazing resources and ideas to push me through this week. Love these #PLNs
We are in personal narrative unit and my Ss has to create a map of where they live. The maps didn’t go so well. So we used google earth and design their neighborhood online. I though this would be harder, but anything online is easier for them. #EduGladiators
A3 I am currently planning a lesson on the causes of the civil war. In the past the teacher would have them watch a video and take notes. To make sure this lesson is revamped this year...what would y’all do?? #EduGladiators
A3 # order to 20. Day 1 was a bust w/ smartboard. Next day we turned off the tech& each kid got a card w/ a # on it.They had to place themselves in # order. We swapped #s & did this 3-4 times, we got good & did a silent round! #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators
If I had nickel for every time I did this, Heather, I'd have embarrassing number of nickels! Turns out term 'self-explanatory' mostly lives in the eyes of the explainer. Thanks for reminder to make time for modeling or pausing often to reflect & question process. #edugladiators
A4: anything by @chrisemdin... I’ve become a disciple of his pedagogy and approach to infusing equity into our schools. Fighting for our kids is something to keep us going at this time of the year ✊🏻✊🏽✊🏿#EduGladiators
A4. “Keep your eyes on the prize!” The prize could be graduation for students or just making it to Summer break. Whatever it is, stay focused & don’t be distracted by distractions! #edugladiators
Gotta run. Looking at houses with a realtor n the new town for my new job. So excited and nervous. Be blessed my friends. #EduGladiators#bookcamppd@D4Griffin3 Great way to start the day.
Thank you for sharing Rachelle & for moderating this morning's great #EduGladiators chat! ✨Overjoyed to hear that we share in part the same source of motivation-- #RitaPierson ✨#RiskTakers 🎓
A4: My favorite life quote is "Hard does not mean impossible." JK Rowling My students hear this all the time and eventually remind each other. #EduGladiators
Thank you so much @Rdene915 & @EduGladiators do not know how this half hour goes faster than any other! So much to go back and read through! #EduGladiators
A4 All year I use @drjeansongs. The students and I state our jobs for the day...every single morning. Then I refer back to them throughout the day as reminders for me and for the Ss. #IHMarchMadness#EduGladiators
Q4: Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. We don’t get anywhere without being the educational risk takers that our students need to first see modeled and believed in us! #EduGladiators#KidsDeserveIt
A4: I'm usually into completely different music, but "Glorious" by David Archuleta reminds me how I feel like I'm where I'm meant to be and how we need to be a team for our kids. I teach at an alternative school, so sometimes it's draining. I need the reminder! #edugladiators

Yes! Mistakes are a part of the learning process… an opportunity to learn and grow in a new way we wouldn’t have thought or experienced otherwise. #EduGladiators
Megan from Brooklyn! I’m late to #edugladiators because I got caught up finishing A Wrinkle in Time. The ending gets me everytime. May just me a liker and a retweeter this am.
A4: I'm a huge fan of Mel Robbins' 5-4-3-2-1. You simply count down out loud and then move. Just start. Helps me get through those low-energy days! #EduGladiators
What I love about foldables - easy to differentiate for learnignmlevel and also grade levels. Older students can have more detailed foldable & still benefit from the learning involved in creating them. #EduGladiators
Never heard of the #edugladiators chat (where have i been?) but when I see @mpilakow and @Rdene915 tweeting with the hashtag you can color me intrigued ! Steve from NJ stopping in. I teach game design and development to awesome middle schoolers. and I think I'm a gladiator :)
Hey Steve, welcome! You need to add this to your Sat morning lineup, every week 9 am eastern, awesome topics, great people, fast chat! #edugladiators@EduGladiators
Our pupils forget most of what we teach them. They will however remember us their teachers forever.Lets be good and kind to them.A kind word can last a lifetime #EduGladiators#leadupchat
There are 7 Days in a week & someday isn’t one of them! Let’s go! Motivate. Elevate. Take flight and push yourself to new heights. Don’t wait, LEAD! See it, believe it, & make it happen! The time is now! #relentless#satchat#EduGladiators#leadupchat#leadlap#believe
A4 List all the characteristics of your ideal student.... today I’ll go with inquisitive, self-confident, team player, hard working, risk taker, empathetic, leadership, & funny! This can be a reality when we as educators are ALL those things to students EVERYday. #EduGladiators
so important, took me a while to recognize this but glad I did, and now I always ask myself if I would want to be in my class, or as @burgessdave if they didn't have to be there, would I be teaching to an empty room #edugladiators
I'm a huge @PearDeck fan, especially now with their new Add-On. I can do everything straight from my Google Drive. I use it to teach grammar mini-lessons and practicing different types of sentence construction #EduGladiators
In reply to
@Rdene915, @heatherT_hooks, @nearpod, @PearDeck
@Flipgrid is a new love for my Ss. We are doing a weekend kindness project with my whole group (each Fri I post a kindness challenge in google classroom) & a small group of my Ss R working with a special needs classroom 2 help their learning using flipgrid 2 ask questions.
Thanks so much @mgrosstaylor@EduGladiators#EduGladiators for an awesome chat this morning! Going back through and reading the answers again, jotting down some fresh ideas!
