-
Thx. for joining us. Get ready for an hour of learning and fun!
-
Welcome! Glad you could join us.
-
-
-
Thanks for joining us Emma!
-
-
A1 - I love incorporating smartphones. We're constantly seeking info, clips, apps, etc to try.
-
-
Great to see you join us, Brett! Hope your 2016 is off to a great start
-
A1. Using Kahoot with my partner for preinternship. The sts were very excited to learn!
-
It's random resource time! In the next 8 minutes, share a link to a resource that has helped you grow as a teacher!
-
Edmodo is a great resource. I also use Evernote constantly.
-
A1 Ooh so hard to answer! I would say using blogs in many different ways, both student and personal.
-
A1: Using on recommendation from in my primary classroom! It is a learning journal.
-
-
No kidding - my big drive was "get this done before kids!" You guys doing it with them are incredible.
-
Hi everyone, Kyle here in Regina. I teach 7/8 by day and am an masters student by night. Looking forward to the chat.
-
Shout-out to ECS 411 rocking the representation! Hi to all there! Who's your fearless leader?
-
A1: So many options! Using tech to create student portfolios, access social media, assess learning, build connections in comm.
-
Hi y'all tuning in my apartment while doing some homework
-
We're just happy to have you join us! I find a good usually refocuses me at this point in the week.
-
It now has a class blog too. Can't wait to try it.
-
Welcome Ellen! Our immersion reps are growing slowly but surely! :)
-
I couldn’t go a day without , helps me stay organized and have multiple resources available in just one click!
-
Q1 I had some success with blogs a while back. Not being the regular classroom teacher was a disadvantage though.
-
Hi Brea! What are you learning about in ?
-
Our K teacher is using it too with great success! https://t.co/SUkxZjkq2z
-
-
A1: Using on recommendation from in my primary classroom! It is a learning journal.
-
I don't know anything about - what's it all about?
-
A1: I loved to use in my math class when the sts needed a brain break
-
blogs = great resource to collect evidence of learning for portfolios, as well as connect w/ comm. 'experts'!
-
A1 Ss love app mashing. It's neat to mix Imotion with or IMovie. So many possibilities
-
A1: Updating a class blog daily, with exactly what we do in French Kindergarten. Helps parent engagement and gets kids excited!
-
Random resource time, ? FLASH CHALLENGE! I have to say now with the chat activated. Transformed parent communication.
-
A1: Greatest successes have come from asking students to show me different ways to use things. They provide valuable insight.
-
I love using kahoot in the classroom! The Ss get so excited about it - great way to make assessment 'fun'!
-
Google drive helps me share folders w/other Ts. They really helped me to learn scary physics stuff this semester.
-
Ha, ha, that was my second choice. I would not have to live without it either. https://t.co/8glPTCyVHn
-
-
I couldn’t go a day without , helps me stay organized and have multiple resources available in just one click!
-
-
-
Use it every day to send out reminders. Love that you can schedule messages for certain times!
-
did you find that it was hard to keep students connected to their blogs because of this?
-
Could not agree more! They also make my teaching life easier in many other ways. https://t.co/m05uFDOnHQ
-
-
blogs = great resource to collect evidence of learning for portfolios, as well as connect w/ comm. 'experts'!
-
yes, as well as for formative assessment - a quick 'check-in' to see where they are at in terms of understanding!
-
-
A2: Substitution of behavior tracking software for pen/paper tracking. Changing one for the other missed the point entirely.
-
What is symbaloo? I've never heard about it
-
Did u know the hangers @ clothing stores r ? Yet stores neither nor
-
A2: not preventing auto play of the next clip on YouTube.
-
A2 I grow using it every day. Lots of trouble shooting and lots of plan B's but would not want to have it disappear either.
-
Glad I'm not the only one!
-
A1: as a communication tool. I love it. Ss love it. Everybody wins!
-
Neat. I'll have to check it out. I use mostly for my bookmarking needs!
-
they are truly the 'experts' when it comes to tech. They have vast amounts of insight and experience to offer!
-
A1: I haven't had a chance to use any tech yet in my teaching! Hoping to get many opportunities with this March!
-
-
Hi everyone, sorry I am late- I am Andrea from Regina. French immersion LRT. First
-
They tend to approach it differently than I do. They understand their needs better than anyone else.
-
Not sure of tonight's theme but I support behavior tracking when it includes tracking positive behaviors!
-
It's a work in progress. Mistakes by Ts and Ss are all part of it.
-
Q2: Not having a backup plan ready when the technology failed. Spent some time thinking on my feet
-
I have a feeling that will let you try out lots of different things!
-
I have used that in the past. I think I like this b/c it’s more visual. Makes my brain happier ha!
-
Welcome to You'll love it here
-
A2. A misstep in technology was the incorrect formatting of Google slides to a projector for my preinternship sts in a sci class
-
I have been trying engagement learning instead of compliance learning. No need to track any behaviors.
-
I do too Kyle, but every day bookmarks right on my desktop really help me
-
Defintely give it a try! Lots of opportunities to personalize and organize how you want.
-
Whatever works! I'll check out symbaloo, but I've been on for 6 or 7 years now!
-
this has happened to me, as well! Or spending a large amount of time trying to troubleshoot = frustrating
-
A2: personal misstep: thinking my photo albums on Facebook were fairly permanent, several of my albums got erased.
-
-
-
-
Yes, I just call out-somebody come and help me figure this out.
-
-
Any or want to join in on
-
-
A2: I'm sure I've had some missteps along the way but I can't think of one right now.
-
-
-
I still use for bookmarks I don't want to use but more of an archive.
-
or asking the students what to do
-
In some ways. Could not keep enough visibility to it. Just b/c there is tech. doen't mean all student love it.
-
A3 Keep connecting with other classes in the world via Twitter, Skype. Ss learn a lot. Makes the world seem smaller.
-
A2: I make missteps and mistakes everyday but I think that’s how we gain the confidence to try something new.
-
-
A2: Not having a plan in case the Mac adaptor cannot be found and the PC is dead! ...Panicked, but it worked in the end
-
A2:When I first started blogging, I found it extremely difficult. Made a lot of mistakes which turned into learning experiences.
-
-
A3: I want to create a class blog, improve my flipped classroom and implement the use of & smartphones more.
-
A2 Misstep in tech was an over-use of cutesy apps in times like D5 when first getting ipads. Too easy to see it as toy not tool!
-
A3 - misstep1 not making sure that we were backing up our projects- lost a whole class worth of stop-motion. I was not popular!
-
A3 We have invested in more Ipads, so want to use them more and in different ways. Also want to use video more.
-
A3: Always considering my outcomes and then finding ways to spice up the learning a bit!
-
Any tips you would give to a new time blogger
-
Picture Perfect! In the next 12 minutes share a picture of a resource you wish all other teachers could access. Tell us why!
-
A3: Looking to have the students own their learning by sharing online on their own, rather than me telling them to.
-
Ouch! https://t.co/iuvvmmZwKe
-
-
A3 - misstep1 not making sure that we were backing up our projects- lost a whole class worth of stop-motion. I was not popular!
-
A3: With a new laptop, I'm still working out issues. My plan is to not turn tech into a physics experiment. -109;Heidi-0
-
yep. Took awhile to figure out its not about the apps
-
A3: Definitely work on incorporating my blog more. Any tips for a new time blogger
-
That's a good one...and such a common one too! It only has to happen once before you learn your lesson.
-
A3:Since I am not currently in the classroom focus will be on exploring new tech tools, keeping up w/ blogging & building my PLN
-
A2 - misstep2 - planning for a class - saving to a thumb drive - INCOMPATIBLE with school computers. “Today we’ll colour!”
-
-
A3: Patiently awaiting for some iPads to arrive at our school. Want to show Ss how to connect & be engaged in the learning.
-
-
I agree. Apps can be good, but if there's no purpose then what's the point. It should be meaningful.
-
A3. I'm going to apply technology where necessary or applicable in my 3 week block this March.
-
No one is too upset with a colouring day! Whole movement towards the colouring books. You were just ahead of the times
-
Haha, I'm sure technical difficulties are profitable for crayola.
-
-
start following other blogs! Figure out what you like/don't like. Write. Edit. Eventually you will find your way!
-
A2 Misstep. Planning a great activity with a guest speaker only to have not enough bandwidth to function. ZERO accomplished.
-
A3 I am on maternity leave so am more worried about missing out on new tech and apps this year, good thing I am taking .
-
-
-
-
Have you checked out Seesaw at all? Seems like you would love it and your students would be great at it. https://t.co/uiSiQl2Ru3
-
-
A3: Patiently awaiting for some iPads to arrive at our school. Want to show Ss how to connect & be engaged in the learning.
-
blog regularly - set up a schedule - write often but don’t worry about length.
-
Just hear about this one. Looks interesting.
-
-
can you explain what seesaw is?
-
A4. Remind is helpful inside and outside of the classroom!
-
thanks. That's from my 6 year old - it reminds me that I need to keep balance in my life
-
My K teacher started using it this year and she is having a high level of success. Parents engaged, students post.
-
coworker and I had something similar with storyboards and stop motion animation kids loved it
-
A4: In class we use , our class blog, and Office365 daily. Use flipped class in math and in ELA
-
A4 prizmo, skitch, bescherelle, dictionary, class dojo
-
-
Student portfolio. User friendly where they can upload vids, pics, and other work. Now has a blog.
-
A4: Edmodo, Evernote, GoogleDrive, are my mobile tech staples. Website go to is pHet simulations b/c it shows physics stuff.
-
Yes! Thanks for the reminder. Great for projects and more.
-
-
The one website I use every single day is - My kids also use Mathletics and Epic daily!
-
I might need to bug you about your flipped math class! It's something I want to try!
-
A4: Google drive is my go-to for everything. I probably use it multiple times a day.
-
A4 If I ever get to it, I want to try Touchcast studio. As for a backchannel site for class discussion,Today's Meet looks cool.
-
during internship I was in a gr 3 classroom and they adored
-
A4: Personally, I use , , , , non stop!
-
Thanks for the link. Easy for even very young students, parents and teachers.
-
yeah - too bad I didn’t think too patent that idea! My grade 12’s thought it was pretty funny!
-
Same here! I've always been intrigued about flipped classrooms. What do your sts think of it
-
-
-
A4 Elem Ts- and are great for getting Ss to show what they know
-
I highly, HIGHLY recommend using to manage passwords w/ all the different tools we use as Ts https://t.co/bRg23g0UB2
-
Resource for T's (pre-service included!): The Zen Teacher. It's changed me in so many ways! https://t.co/NMJEAyzax5
-
Resource for T's (pre-service included!): The Zen Teacher. It's changed me in so many ways! https://t.co/UGyrNLD39o
-
-
I'd love to share any time you want. I've been doing it in my math classes for over 4 years now!
-
A4: Socrative is a great quiz production tool. Doing the quizzes online can be a lot more fun than on paper!
-
I also have Touchcast on my list waiting for me. Give Today's Meet a try, it is a great one.
-
I also use and every day. They are my curation and access to information sites.
-
A5: I think encouraging them to just try one thing at a time is a good way to start. Something simple and easy to use.
-
I am going to have to check this out, never heard of it and always forget at least one password a day!
-
Esp for when you return after the summer and you haven't had to log into anything for weeks.
-
Awesome! Once I get in my grove here I'll get in touch!
-
It will even automatically fill them in for you, so you never have to worry. So easy to use.
-
I use 1password - great when you have too many sites and passwords to worry about.
-
-
A5: Walk them through it. Like read to a partner - elbow to elbow, knee to knee, but with laptops!
-
Always being there to help if needed
-
A5: It can be daunting, but sit down and grind it out! Have a buddy show you the basics, then explore by yourself to discover!
-
I'm currently half way through this, thanks to 's recommendation in another
-
A5: I find that there are usually teachers who are willing to help and who know way more than me like +
-
works the same a dashlane - on my phone, iPad - keeps me “connected”!
-
-
Enjoy the rest and break, you deserve it. Hopefully see you next week!
-
A4: Loving the google readwrite app with Ss to adjust lexile and adapt for various reading levels
-
Yep, same idea. Very useful tools. Pick one and make it yours!
-
A5 Show examples via email, etc of engaged Ss learning with tech
-
A5: Be willing to lend a hand. It's way easier to ask for help if someone has offered
-
I hope you like it as much as and I did!
-
A5: Find one, simple thing to explore together. Learn it together, be better together.
-
How have I missed out on this for so long! On my list for this weekend!
-
A5 Remind about baby steps to build confidence.
-
A5 After 20 yrs I’ve learned there is no “magic bullet” meet them where they are, honour their feelings, share, trust & support.
-
Get the students involved - ask them to each bring in and share their fave app/site. Even 7 year olds would love that!
-
A5: Collaboration, support one another, share ideas/experiences. Modelling how you use it in your classroom can be helpful!
-
A5 Start small. Be helpful and encouraging. Work together.
-
How did I not know this was a thing??
-
Sounds like a great way to collaborate!
-
Modelling is important for teachers too!
-
A5 Buddy up with a fellow T. Or just find one small thing and work with it. When success reached, try something else, and so on.
-
A5 Try to think of ways our digital leadership team can help out classroom teachers with some success.
-
-
we were with you all the time - you just didn’t mention it…..
-
confidence = key; I certainly lacked it when first exploring tech. Confidence also makes it easier to take risks
-
A5: Find out what their needs are and what tech could assist. Support them in learning and integrating. Don't force it.
-
-
It’s important to honour their feelings, where they are & walk with them - we expect ppl to “just get it”. This goes for Ss too!
-
A5 is a tech goddess! She's always been there to help me out! :)
-
-
Supportive admin who encourage risk taking
-
A5 - it’s not about the technology but about the relationships - build them & develop trust - amazing things will happen!
-
-
have you scanned in books to google read and write yet? I couldn't figure it out before I left on leave.
-
A6. I want to learn more about Class Dojo - my Co-op is using this tool already in the classroom.
-
A very good book. I have to read yet but is highly recommended.
-
Anyone interested, tomorrow we’re meeting for “collaborative sharing” after school - check back for location - come if you can.
-
A6: Ways to use technology for Ts Ss and Ps to connect and collaborate. I know they exist, but haven't had a chance to use them
-
It's fun. I've used it in my gymnastics classes!
-
A6: Google read & write will be a necessity for me to master in my role since we just switched to it in our division.
-
I still haven't found the perfect digital student portfolio. Tried but not loving it. Any suggestions?
-
Exactly! A lot of stress is created 4 Ts not good w/tech when there's new stuff. I'm keen to play but it scares others
-
class dojo discomforts me a little, as it can put Ss 'on the spot' leading to lowered self-confidence
-
A:6 and finding an effective tool that can help create math assignments and equations
-
A6 Anyone know any good 3D animation apps or site for elem Ss?
-
-
A6: I really want to figure out how to use Snapchat to enhance my classroom. Students already glued to it, need to tap into it.
-
A5: work alongside with where they're at when they're ready and open
-
Have to run, thanks to everyone for sharing. Have a few new tools and resources to check out this weekend!
-
it would be really neat to create a class account, where Ss can add to the snapchat story!
-
A6: New tech is not a priority for me for next 4 months. Getting the existing stuff to function and finishing capstone is.
-
-
can you explain how it puts students in the spot? I have hardly used it
-
Awesoem stuff. PLN's and rock for collaboration and connecting!
-
-
is awesome! Simple to use but great to showcase Ss work. Parents can view their own child's work as well.
-
Highly recommend it. Enjoyable to read, but you learn a lot along the way.
-
I agree; dynamic between Ss who are constantly losing points & Ss who are constantly gaining can be problematic
-
interesting, any thoughts on how you would do this? Would you create a that sts could snap
-
If I'm feeling better I'll join!
-
I wonder if there would be privacy issues? Would be interesting to see if other Ts have tried it
-
essentially it is a public display of behaviour as kept track of by gaining/losing points.
-
Too many great books to read!! The summer reading list is getting long. ??
-
-
Is a book referenced a lot by John Antonetti in his work.
-
I think so. But, I wonder what kind of privacy issues there might be, since it self-destructs
-
What are your thoughts on , & ?
-
Confession: trying to use snapchat personally, it's well beyond me. A very sad "I'm getting old" day
-
Arghh!!! This is the second I've missed! And I really wanted to be there for this one! Oh well, read the Storify, I guess
-
Personally I want to inspire Ss to love learning for its own sake. Not for points, etc.
-
-
-
-
-
I do not know the app enough to say, but it would be worth it to check it out!
-
does it have to be public? Can a teacher use it without showing everything to the classroom?
-
Anyone on want to be my accountability partner?
-
I don't really use it personally. Doesn't appeal to me. But kids, love it. I can't figure it out.
-
I'll be sure to share if I get anywhere with it!
-
I don't get it either. My nieces have been trying to teach me.
-
-
but what about the students who rarely receive points? Still effective?
-
Arghh!!! This is the second I've missed! And I really wanted to be there for this one! Oh well, read the Storify, I guess
-
-
Yep, we need to talk more about this.
-
Thanks I plan to investigate to apps some more
-
Thanks for all the reminders tonight about apps and tools I hadn't thought about in a while.
-
Thanks for the great chat tonight! Goodnight all.
-
I should have sent you a smarty reminder!
-
if I was in the classroom, I’d definitely look at in combination with
-
Have to head out a few mins early. Thanks for the great conversation & collaboration tonight ! Always a good time!
-
Thanks I plan to investigate these apps as they look awesome!!
-
Good night everyone! Really enjoyed all the sharing tonight. Have a great weekend.
-
-
Sounds awesome! Do you think Snapchat could be used as a regularly used classroom tool?
-
Sounds awesome! Do you think Snapchat could be used as a regularly used classroom tool?
-
Have a great Friday! Hope to see you again next week.
-
Awesome night for my first ever great resources to try for the weekend! Thank you everyone!
