Tonight we discuss what is a hot topic in Texas this week, Redistricting & Realignment. This can bring major change to a program
-
Freddy Gonzalez, Assistant Coach, Socorro HS
-
These changes can range from not just who you play, but who is coaching the kids or who you're coaching against!
-
-
Tonight I want to learn what you do to take these changes head on and turn them to your advantage
-
Might hear a lot of er... discontent from us Louisiana folks on this topic

A1: we have regions, and switching regions can be huge on a week to week basis. Competition is so much better than others
-
Marte Amrine-dripping springs

-
A1 It doesn't change us at all, as who we are is not dictated by who we play.
-
A1) Depends on the quality of opponent. Tougher district opponents prepare you for the playoffs.
-
A1: I don't think there is really much of an impact. I think kids look forward to new opponents. https://t.co/3hksny2YI6
-
-
Q1: How does the changing of district opponents impact your program?
-
A1: I will say it shouldn't effect your preparation, because as coaches and players we should always be preparing for the best
-
Ryan Higgins. Carter Riverside LBs, assistant Oline, and strength and conditioning coach.
-
A1 doesn't matter who is on the opposing sideline. We have to do what we do and play our style every week
-
A1) Sometimes during redistricting, you lose rivalry games. Communities look forward to these games.
-
A1It doesn’t change us but the district and region which were already the toughest… got tougher which is exciting but no impact.
-
A1: this year we have to travel farther. Our coaches from west Texas make fun of me for complaining about a 1hr 45 min drive.
-
A1-I think it gives us a chance to refocus and brings us excitement for new opponents
-
A1: We focus on us. Try to be the best team we can be and see where that gets us.
-
ICYMI: Q1: How does the changing of district opponents impact your program?
-
Forgot got was tonight. Must 👀 in.
-
Our players & coaches are usually excited about new district opponents
-
Nice start to ! Q2 up next
-
A1: Our players & coaches are usually excited about new district opponents
-
A1 Nothing changes with what we do for preparation but it does keep things exciting having new teams on the schedule.
-
Q2: In Texas, we realign districts in February of even years. Do you gather film to build your background of the new teams?
-
Colbry Lathan
Assistant coach
Okolona High School
Okolona, MS
-
Realignment is exciting as you get a new set of challenges for your program.
-
A2 try to get an idea of returning starters, lettermen, and offensive/defensive schemes. Especially early season opponents
-
A2 Personally I like to check out hudl highlights of new teams but, nothing in depth or team wide.
-
A2 I'd start gathering film as soon as I possibly can. I also like to check MaxPreps to see their roster info if it's posted
-
A2:I think a lot of that would depend on when you play them in the year. If any of our 1st 3 games are new people, I want 2 know
-
A2: We try to find as much info about new opponents as we can. Scheme, returners etc. At least have an idea going in to summer.
-
A2 We gather anything we can on new teams. In reality the best info comes early next season.
-
Good stuff! Q3 on the way
-
A2: we get film, check max preps for returners & stats, and talk with other coaches about the teams
-
Q3: What other sources of information do you use to scout your new district opponents?
-
Dominique Bowman
Defensive Coordinator
Cordova High School
Memphis Tn
Just observing tonight
-
A3 I like to use MaxPreps to check stats and preferences. I would also like to talk to fellow coaches who have faced them
-
A?) We have a couple new teams on the schedule this year, 1 we have film on & the other we don't. Luckily it's week8
-
A3 I search the team with hudl. See what they have to offer. I also look at max preps or YouTube for player highlights.
-
A3 MaxPreps, Hudl, and fellow coaches
-
Jonathan Parks
OC . Juliet High School
Mt Juliet TN
-
A3: we attempt to get scouting reports from teams that traditionally play our new opponents
-
Keep it up! Q4 in a minute!
-
Q4: If longer travel is required, when do you begin planning your gameday schedule?
-
A4 I'll be honest, planning a gameday schedule is something I need to learn more about. Would love to hear opinions about it
-
A4- we have started. We map it out and get restaurant list going and start getting out timing. Our closest trip now is 35min
-
Great stuff! The last Q of the night is up next!
-
Strength and Conditioning chat tomorrow night 8pm, & I will be leading the chat on WarmUps!
-
Q5: Occasionally schools will make changes due to realignment. What opportunities do you look for during realignment years?
-
If anyone wants to talk about how to do a pregame schedule, please let me know!
-
A5-we use each offseason to see what we need to tweet in our system, but I think consistency is the key. No drastic changes
-
I'll tell y'all like I told the I added my email to my Twitter bio, if anybody wants to talk ball, holler at me!
-
Great job tonight! I hope that whatever change you experience this offseason, you have a plan for it!
-
-
-
A5 we don't change anything as a result of realignment. We make changes based on our strengths/needs.
