We chat every Tuesday night at 8:30-9:30 pm CST. All are welcome, especially EarlyEd teachers, leaders & experts. Co-founded & moderated by @techwnancy @JessicaCabeen & @VealHeidi
Excited for my first #ECEchat. Joe - daddy of ๐ฉโ๐๐ฉโ๐๐ฎ๐ท under 6 (all just down to sleep - for now). Also invited @LMMazza to hang w/ us
Good evening #ECEchat PLN! My name is Nancy. I am the very proud principal of Celina Primary School in North Texas. I am passionate about things #ECE and #EarlyEd
Hi #ECEchat friends! Heidi here, #EarlyEd District Program Administrator in North Texas. I'm passionate about all things #PreK, leadership, #CodingInPk & #STEAM in the Early Years!
Q1: Tech is not just an iPad! Tech implies a plethora of different tools from digital cameras to coding devices such as a Beebot! What are the benefits of infusing early year learning with tech? #ECEchat
A1: Too many benefits to count. Today a T shared how her special ed. student (who has fine motor issues) used the iPad to type what she knows. It gave her a voice! The student was so happy! #ECEchat
A1 I think it helps them w/creativity & to give more hands on chances! Weโve used code & go mice, iPad apps, & magnetic tiles so far! Look at those smiles!!! #ECEchat
A1: Benefits of tech integration, when planned, purposeful, and playful, includes: problem solving skills, hand eye coordination, & its a door to the world! #ECEchat
RT Q1: Tech is not just an iPad! Tech implies a plethora of different tools from digital cameras to coding devices such as a Beebot! What are the benefits of infusing early year learning with tech? #ECEchat
Q1: Tech is not just an iPad! Tech implies a plethora of different tools from digital cameras to coding devices such as a Beebot! What are the benefits of infusing early year learning with tech? #ECEchat
A1: tech enables us to teach so many skills to reach learners. Writing, listening, speaking, creativity, counting, pretend, coding, etc. It integrates so many content areas while teaching the skills this generation will need inc. collaborating! #ECEchat
A1: Tech is becoming very important in today's society. Technology is currently in a phase where it's exploding in popularity and with it being our future...it gets them sorta familiar with it -- and it makes it easier for documentation and other things. #ECEChat
A1: Iโm actually working on a paper right now about the cognitive development opportunities students have using tech tools, intergrating technology although argued by some can enhance learning in a productive PBL environment #ECEChat
A1 it also helps remove any barriers a child may face! We learned a coding app that Ss had to get a mouse through a maze using arrows & my EL who came in w/no English was successful & loved it!! #ECEchat
A1 when we infuse tech in earlylearningwe are more likely to get producers of concepts like #coding vs only consumers-they learn how to use tech as a tool and not a toy! #ECEchat#trueSTEM#lilTechies
A1: Technology can allows young student who can't read and write yet, show what they know in different ways. Video, voice recording, voice to text, etc. #ECEchat
I agree!!! They need to be fluent w/tech just like reading!! It was amazing to see today during our media lesson, how many of my kinders still have trouble w/iPads this far in the year #ECEchat
A1: Technology can allows young student who can't read and write yet, show what they know in different ways. Video, voice recording, voice to text, etc. #ECEchat
A1: Modeling digital literacy with the youngest learners is important. We try and teach them how important it is to have fun and stay safe while searching and learning on the web! #ECEchat
A1 Itโs all in how itโs used!
Tech can be either used as a digital pacifier OR as a tool for empowering our young learners to access their wonderful world, be digitally creative, and aquire the foundations of digital citizenship. #ECEchat
Q1: Tech is not just an iPad! Tech implies a plethora of different tools from digital cameras to coding devices such as a Beebot! What are the benefits of infusing early year learning with tech? #ECEchat
Very true. I think if we are not careful, our students will never move past the consumption phase. We need to move them to the creation phase. #ECEchat
Technology shouldn't replace the teacher though. Only to enhance a skill, to document learning, or if you're using VR for virtual field trips, to replace getting Ss out of the classroom #ECEChat
A1: it is basically the new โliteracyโ Ss learn many skills: problem solving, thinking, creativity, processing and communication skills... this is a definite advantage for success,#ECEchat
I think the defining factor is the teacher and how they use it. There are wrong ways to use tech in the classroom, for example, substitutions and digital worksheets, etc. #ECEchat
Technology can provide teachers a way to enhance learning. Watching students create via beebots/code.org and other tools while teachers ask questions to deepen understanding #ECEChat
You read my mind! It is a great tool as long as it doesnโt become a babysitter. Our kids are now part of a digital world, we must teach them how to use their digital tools appropriately and be purposeful. #ecechat

Q1: Tech is not just an iPad! Tech implies a plethora of different tools from digital cameras to coding devices such as a Beebot! What are the benefits of infusing early year learning with tech? #ECEchat
A2: modeled and student supported task that have been repeated introduced at a appropriate pace and rate based on students response to user etiquette and best practices #ECEChat
I've coded with students as young as 3 years old. They can do it! We need to move past the "they are too little" mindset. These digital natives learn it very naturally. They don't need to read the manual! #ECEchat
A2: virtual fuels trips are a great way to use technology to enhance lessons. In a zoo unit, we Skype with the Dallas Zoo zookeeper and as asked lots of qs! Tech is more then an ipad #ECEchat
A2: Ss having hands on access to technology, whether that's an ipad, chromebook, coding robot, etc... working collaboratively with peers and the T. #ECEchat
I also think it helps build self control & problem solving skills they need!! โHow do I get to a new app?โ Or โI have to only play games my teacher said, not anyone on there.โ (These are hard for some of mine!) #ECEchat
I've seen preK teachers use Pebble Go to research animals, then students used Book Creator to draw and record facts they learned. It was amazing! #ECEchat
And I guess I feel that way because my school had the "stay inside all day long except for recess" mentality. Like I live in MO. We don't have pyramids. But we can use VR for that! But, say, plants, then we can just go outside for that! And maybe VR later for more #ECEChat
A2: one word: seamless. It looks like collaboration in small groups or centers, creating individual and group projects, integrating activities into learning centers like Square Panda in ABC, PebbleGo in Science, Duck, Duck Moose everywhere, etc ๐ #ECEchat
A2 I think itโs a mix of using tech together & independently. We visit a zooโs live cams together, use Tumble books together & by themselves, plus they have chances to practice math & literacy skills & show the teacher more through videos and pictures #ECEchat
A2: Ss are integrating tech in all aspects -communicating w their parents through @Seesaw - using @PlayOsmo / Monster in art/tech center- using @QrReader in our library for digital stories and for stories I record using @puppet - using marbotics, bee bots, codeapillar #ECEchat

@KatiePekel here is one example. At early grades making sure we are not limiting opportunities based upon adult skills sets and focusing on student possibilities. #ECEChat

A2 jumping in late; Pebblego research then book in book creator, activities in @Seesaw, My Learning Path in ABCmouse, smart notebook activities #ecechat
A3 we use Tumble books during centers so Ss can listen to stories being read. Also have started to use Seesaw & a draw & tell app for Ss to use center time to share work with teacher & the class #ECEchat
A3: @TigglyKids and @PlayOsmo were used daily in my classroom in ABC and math centers, manipulative games with digital stickers for help w/ counting, coding mouse in construction, iPads in the library for QR listening and books weโve made. #ECEchat
A3: I like producing Seesaw Activities and having student recall or reflect on concepts being discussed by producing interactive drawings with vocal responses #ECEChat
Using a tool to enhance communication and student voice is a way. When I taught the other week in K Ss utilized @Seesaw to share information about penguins, tested assumptions and connected with other students via video/blog posts. #ECEChat
cooperatively working to program beebot to 'count' backwards from a specified number that Ss are working on mastering with alignment to Essential Learning Outcomes. #ECEChat
RT Q1: Tech is not just an iPad! Tech implies a plethora of different tools from digital cameras to coding devices such as a Beebot! What are the benefits of infusing early year learning with tech? #ECEchat
A2: In the district I support, we have used @nearpod with #kindergarten students and used virtual reality to "take them" places they would never "see"! #ecechat
We also partnered with an elementary school in Iowa for Global Read Aloud in which students communicated between schools information about author, genre and comprehension questions along with building relationships and connecting with others. #ECEChat
That is awesome! I have seen kids in PreK scan the @seesaw QR code and take pictures of things they build/created in class and share it with their parents on @seesaw Talk about transparency - tech can give parents a window into the classroom. #ECEchat

A3: Art- kaleidoscope app, @PlayOsmo Monster, @ChatterPixIt - ABCctr- @marbotic with letter manipulatives, Doodlebuddy -Math ctr @marbotic math with number manipulatives - tech ctr - beebots with letter / shape mats or vocabulary hunt - so much more #ECEchat
A willingness to let go of the fact that the adults may no longer be the experts in all things and to let students take ownership. Moving away from how we learned towards ways in which Ss can connect learning differently (and maybe even deeper). #ECEChat

Q4: Where do you find tech integration inspiration and ideas? What are your favorite resources and go-to places for tech integration ideas? Share links if you can! #ECEchat
A3: ss can record "wish you well" messages to absent students, take photos of creations in blocks, watch stories to retell in dramatic play, and more! #ECEchat
I know-I should stick to my day job:) getting back into classrooms and teaching for full days has been an experience but a great opportunity to see practices in action. #ECEChat
A3 Today my Ss were #coding an @WonderWorkshop Dash to a HF word at the word Work station- then they wrote the word and programmed the robot to say it using their voice- they loved it and itโs just one of the ways tech helps them master standards #ECEChat#trueSTEM#lilTechies
A3 Have you seen @SquarePanda It's a Bluetooth enabled, iPad interactive play set that focuses on building letter & sound knowledge, phonemic awareness, print awareness, and vocabulary; perfect for cooperative learning! #ECEchat

A5: one of my favs is when students use @ChatterPixIt to bring their journal writing and drawing to life and tell me all about their thinking / learning - then they place it in their @Seesaw digital profile and send to their parents- I also use as a formative assessment #ecechat
I love coding!! I'm hoping that when I start college .... I can do one of those hour of code things or whatever they are! My cousin recently completed her teaching degree about a year and a half ago (teaches 2nd grade) and she never heard about it. #ECEChat
A5 Loved this moment from a PreK classroom visit where this students was teaching the visiting teachers how he uses @Seesaw to share his learning with his family! #ECEchat#lisdpk#LISDculture
I went on https://t.co/fP1zNj8jdV about a year ago to play with the samples and I found it fun!! Wish we had it available when I attended Kindergarten in 1999. I just wanna get my hands on coding and expand my knowledge for it. Really challenges your thinking & mind #ECEChat
A5 sorry #ECEchat had to share this integrated Dad lesson with my own from last Sunday morning... she built the maze and then coded @WonderWorkshop dash through it with her 3 year old brother! #proudcodingdad
A5: @useloom created video how tos for Seesaw and google drive that students could access with ease I also can post individual videos for students to practice specific skills I video record and itโs done โ they can go back and review it #ECEChat
Be on the lookout for the archive of tonight's chat via @participate about Tech Integration for Early Learners.
Thanks again for making #ECEchat an amazing PLN!
A6: connecting with amazing people from here to learn more about virtual field trips, and learning more and more about awesome ways to use seesaw! #ECEchat
