Two books (sorry I couldn’t limit it to just one) have recently had a huge impact on me as a teacher: Kids Deserve It and What School Could Be. #bfc530

I cannot pick one. Even 4 is tough for me but I’ll do it (not in rank order)
1. Tipping Point
2. A Whole New Mind
3. Daring Greatly
3. The Last Lecture #bfc530

Wow...too many to think of one. Here's a quick sampling of what's handy on the shelf. Two that I recently read that were wonderful are XLR8 by Kotter and Whiplash by Ito & Howe. #bfc530
Books from my very young days, such as Friere's Pedagogy of the Oppressed and Postman and Weingartner's Teaching as a Subversive Activity. They still hang with me. #BFC530

I've read several edu books but none have been earth shattering. I've found that other books from history to self-help, ones that help me think & reflect as a person make me a better educator as well. Like this for example #bfc530#DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth
I agree with @ReadWriteBlue2 - The Book Whisperer has helped me get my students to love our 15 minutes of quiet reading each period. It was a life-changer for us. I also love teacher blogs - real life stuff, relatable and usable. #bfc530

Wow! You folks get up really early. I was annoyed with myself that I‘ve been waking up at 5:52 for the last two days. It has allowed me to join you folks again. #bfc530

Good morning #bfc530 There are so many- first one ever was a borrowed copy of Other People’s Children. Most recently it might be @FletcherRalph ‘s reminder JoyWrite. In between? Scads of books have guided my evolution. I’m excited to get more titles today from all of you!

"Teaching What You Don't Know" is a good book that shows how you can sussefully model the learning process and includes how the novice may be able to teach better than the expert, and has great activities to tackle learning as a community, as well as great reflective mtrl.#bfc530
I definitely need to try Culturize and Mathematical Mindsets! Keep those suggestions coming- I’ll be out of school for 1 1/2 weeks, so I can catch up! #bfc530
“Invisible child -Dasani’s homeless life” though published a few years ago, I reread it yearly to remind myself of the Herculean efforts some Ss have made just to get to my class ,services and product. . #BFC530
On my list! Have you also read the Math Myth by Hacker? I don't agree with all of it, but it certainly makes you challenge your assumptions on the ways (often bad) we teach math. #bfc530
#BoldSchool by @Wes_Kieschnick is a game changer for teachers who are working to find a powerful and purposeful way of building instructional strategies intentionally to their teaching and learning. https://t.co/RaRJij90ed#BFC530
What?! I’m such a night owl. I have to force myself to stop thinking and go to bed. I’m excited if I can get to bed before midnight, so if I woke up at 3:30 or 4:00, I would be a zombie. Wow-4:00 am! #bfc530
After spending some quality time with him last weekend in Alaska, I cannot wait to read BOLD SCHOOL by @Wes_Kieschnick.
Awesome.
Simply awesome.
#bfc530
I have told people it is important to have a good human being in the classroom than a good teacher. We all can work on the first point with me needing it the most and it will lead us into being the second #bfc530
Can I give one more book? #bfc530 Stephen King's Pet Sematary, as it taught me that reading can be fun - what we need to share with young people. @BrianHerb17 knows the story. :)

There are so many! I ❤️ Jan Richardson’s Next Steps I’m Guided Reading. Also awesome are The Innovators Mindset, The Pepper Effect, Lead Like a Pirate...this list could be quite lengthy! @gcouros@smgaillard@burgessdave@dbc_inc@DrJanrichardson#bfc530

I think me reading a ton of middle grade books really helps me immensely in the classroom. This genre has exploded with amazing literature in the past few years. #bfc530
Reading @NancieAtwell 's In the MIddle 28 years ago was life changing for me. Wondrous Words by @KatieWoodRae was also huge and now anything published on the Teachers Going Gradeless Fb page @TG2Chat#bfc530
Yes, #TLAP is fantastic. Best part for me is the idea that one should create an environment where students would buy tickets to get into your class. THAT's a paradigm shift we can all use! #bfc530

You know what has influenced me in the classroom. How Kurt Vonnegut wrote. In HS, I was more intrigued by how he wrote than what he wrote. Reaching people thru unconventional ways has effected my classroom practice #bfc530
I read it as a 20 something, Kathy, and it opened up for me a whole world of books that could be scary and funny and profane, etc. #bfc530 Thank you, @StephenKing :)

Makes sense. See, I love the quitness of the night. I feel so much more productive (partly because it is easier to focus). The joys of having problems with attention 🤷🏽♂️ #bfc530
Heard our friend @VtheLearner was rocking her new gig so well that Middle schoolers were creating counterfeit passes to go to her library at lunch! How's that for awesome!?!

Oh, and Punished By Rewards by @alfiekohn We built our school around the philosophy of his book - no detentions or punishments, no gold stars or grades (in elementary - we were obligated to in secondary). #bfc530
The Book Whisperer, by Donalyn Miller @donalynbooks
I found it during my second year of teaching at our school’s Scholastic Book Fair and it completely inspired me to reimagine the way I run my classroom.
Definite game-changer for me.

And now one you have not read, but it certainly caused a huge shift in my role as an educator as I reflected on my 11 years as a teacher...the book I co-wrote with @adamhaigler that will be out in November: https://t.co/JemdrlABdn. #bfc530
The Amle journals are an excellent middle school resource. I feel like middle school strategies can often be revamped for high school (and even teacher PD!) #bfc530
Me too! I worked with her:(
She was a force in our school! But now those middle schoolers get her so I'm glad she is still rocking the kiddies:) And she loves it so...
#bfc530
I also spent my summer reading diverse middle grade and YA books. Thanks to @TechNinjaTodd for encouraging this with great lists from Sparks in the Dark; thanks also to @ProjectLITComm for an amazing group of books this year. #bfc530

Mid-November is just over 2 weeks away, so that’s good. You should start to be feeling better by Christmas. Not sure what it does for Thanksgiving. You’re in my prayers. As for the reading you have my suggestions. #bfc530
@LynMullalyHunt has a new one coming out..I am so beyond exciting..I cannot wait..I think in the spring..there are starting to be teasers on it now.. #bfc530
I love the early morning hours for that reason. Before everyone else is up, I can get so much done. But I only became a morning person after having kids. Before that I was also a night owl. #bfc530
Most of the books I’ve read #bfc530!
We should just be teacher friends on @goodreads anyway - pen63 there too! Ed books on: vocabulary, resilience, blended Kearning, leadership.

Not only reading Teach Like a Pirate but seeing @burgessdave speak. Definitely a game changer. Also Energy Bus by @JonGordon11 helped me realize about the power of positive energy. #bfc530
#bfc530 I consider anything by Kelly Gallagher (@KellyGToGo) an invaluable resource for anyone in 6-12 ELA. Practical, engaging, and entirely focused on what is going on in classrooms right now. So grateful for his work!

Long-term my favorite books are Readicide by @KellyGToGo and Strengthening the Heartbeat: Leading and Learning Together in Schools by Thomas Sergiovanni.

#BFC530 11 years ago I read Horace's Hope by Theodore Sizer and it changed my perspective on education. Even after so many years the book remains relevant to me and the struggles of the American public education system. I can make a difference, it gave me hope!
Thanks for asking! It’s my mashup of #TheBeatles and their impact on Education. I share how their creative and collaborative legacy can inspire educators to make their masterpiece. #ThePepperEffect#BFC530
