Hello #IEedchat
Joseph Williams from @puhsd
I have been a good steward to the environment by installing all drip irrigation, dg pathways, drought tolerant plants, low flow shower heads, and high-efficiency toilets.
Boom!
Hi! my name is Rachael and im a pre-service teacher! i think its important to teach and also be a good example of daily ways to help the environment #IEedchat#gccedu
Hi, I'm Tom Ashley, Tech Coach TOSA @PalomaValley. I definitely need to cut back on 16.9 oz plastic water bottles! I could drive more conservatively and save gas too. #IEedchat
A0: Chris Lara 8th grade history. I need to be more vigilant about not buying products that contain things like palm oil because the palm oil industry is causing orangutans to be an endangered species #IEedchat
A0: Jonathan Synnott, Tech Tosa for Perris Union HSD. I could be a better steward of the environment by buying rechargeable batteries for my kids' Xbox controllers. Dang Fortnight #IEedchat
Hello! My name is Hannah Hale and I'm a pre-service teacher. I think a couple of things I could do to help the environment is control my use of bottle water and recycle more regularly #ieedchat
A1: I can promote the cause by encouraging students to read an understand the overwhelming evidence and indicators that our climate is changing.
#IEedchat
A0: Jenna Neely, Pre-service teacher. I have a reusable water bottle to cut back on my use of plastic bottles and I also use a water conserving shower head #ieedchat
A1: I could encourage Ts and Ss to use less paper, but more importantly, I want to spread the world on the electric revolution that is coming to the automobile and other industries. Solar and other clean renewable sources of energy are inevitable. #IEedchat
A0:
Jed Tech TOSA / math geek @puhsd@HeritageHSPats
I try to recycle at home, but I could help support it more at work. Occasionally think about it but it's daunting to organize/sustain at scale for a full school.
#IEedchat
I think studying nature in literature is a great way to stress the importance and beauty of the nature around us. Educating Ss on what can be done to protect it! #ieedchat
A1: Modeling proper disposal of waste is very important also reminding them that we should be more considerate toward our choices and the environment. #IEedchat
A2: A big threat to the environment is human activity is causing climate change. There is an overwhelming scientific consensus on this despite statements to the contrary.
#IEedchat
A2: Global warming is the biggest problem, but, outside of the box, it is also having a positive effect on education because people are wanting to learn and to take positive steps to educate themselves on how to mitigate the problem of global warming. #IEedchat#globalwarming
Also, climate change will alter the focus of our economy, so we need to prepare Ss for the jobs that will address the needed change, like clean energy/solar. #IEedchat
A1:
Research, broadcast, awareness via social media. Helping staff and students with technology includes building capacity for our digital stories. Environmentalism needs more broadcasting.
#IEedchat
A2: I think the way people treat the Earth, on top of Climate Change, is the number one threat. I think the needs for better air, safer seas, and better living environments are encouraging students to learn more about it. #ieedchat
Q3: Politics are ever-present when discussing environmentalism. Do you shy away from topics like Climate Change to avoid controversy? Why or why not? #IEedchat
A3: No. I do not shy away, I collaborate with my students because there is no room for politics regarding the issue. It’s about facts, science, solutions, and I will include communication as a part of the solution. #IEedchat#MakeADifference
A2: biggest problem is a large portion of people including the current government refuse to except clean energy and step away from coal and fossil fuels #IEedchat
A3: On the topic of climate change, I stick with the science. One interesting title I just read is "Consensus on consensus: a synthesis of consensus estimates on human-caused global warming."
#IEedchat
While i don't shy away, i do try to remain a neutral source when discussing such topics. I think its the best way to gain knowledge and avoid conflict #ieedchat
Q3: Politics are ever-present when discussing environmentalism. Do you shy away from topics like Climate Change to avoid controversy? Why or why not? #IEedchat
A3: Climate Change is more controversial in the teacher's lounge than the classroom. It is an established scientific fact. Teach Ss that we must respond to it with clear conviction. #IEedchat
A3: Students need to build opinions on relevant topics in their world. You have to put your biases aside and allow students time to discuss and form these opinions. #ieedchat
A2:
global warming - but not necessarily from causes I hear commonly hear - Mis management of food waste.
Check out this video on the "World's Dumbest Problem" #IEedchathttps://t.co/sCk9g9vBMB
A3: Environmentalism should not be a political issue, it should be an American community concern. No matter what your political affiliation, you should take care of your backyard and you can do that by making sure its pollutant free for all #IEedchat
A4:Climate change has resulted in huge solar arrays being built at all of our campus to meet California goals for clean energy production. We have also had to make strides in H2O savings and water our sports fields less due to drought. Schools used as shelters too. #IEedchat
Q3: Politics are ever-present when discussing environmentalism. Do you shy away from topics like Climate Change to avoid controversy? Why or why not? #IEedchat
A4: It hasn’t specifically affected the school but in the general Inland Empire the environment has been affected by record drought through overheated weather patterns creating drought affected water reservoirs/water systems and polluted air. #IEedchat
A3:
No.
It's science.
I think the biggest challenge for people is being able to zoom out and look at the change over larger spans of time (decades instead of years).
Also really diving into major causes (see previous tweet about food waste)
#IEedchat
In high school i was taught alot about ways to conserve and global warming. We had a big recycling program and conservation was a big point of conversation in classes #ieedchat
A5: Environmentalism and quality of life issue always intersect. The smog, noise pollution, and congestion, are constant barriers for better living. I hated making my XCountry runners go out in smoggy conditions back in the day when I coached. #IEedchat
A5: Waste management is huge, we need to be able to do something with those plastic bottles that we use everyday. @4wallsintl has done some awesome projects to utilize these things for the good. #IEedchat
A5: The constant temperature changes in TN have caused illness and allergies to go crazy. Students and myself are sick from the weather's inability to decide. #ieedchat
A4:
local and statewide - changing climate affects crops, major part of CA's economy too.
Check out couple of quick documentaries from area I grew up in as water gets misused and climate has no mercy:
#IEedchat
A5: Pollution is a big problem in my community. You drive down the road and see trash lining the road and all of our drains go back to to the river. It is gross. #ieedchat
A6: My district built huge solar arrays that double as shade structures for my car. Also added hydration stations. Very nice. They hired a company that goes around and unplugs teacher fridges over weekends. No so nice, LOL. #IEedchat
My high school had a team of students go around the school and collect recycling everyday. Everything was student led and really motivated students to recycle more #ieedchat
A6: Our district @puhsd has added solar panels in parking lots, recycle bins & trash bins in each classroom. We have taken on a utilities saving plan when we go on break, so we do not use unwanted electricity. I would love to see solar charge stations for CB's #IEedchat
A5: the Flint water crisis isn't local but I think it is important. If it is allowed to happen even once, eventually we will see it more often. #IEedchat
A6: My practicum placement school takes a trip every year to a camp for two days where students learn more about the nature around them and take classes educating them on it! #ieedchat
A5:
My last #IEedchat tweets.
CA (and many other areas across USA) are facing major water issues around the corner.
@TheBigShort noted how he is looking at investing in water; we should take note.

Final thoughts for #IEedchat on Earthday.
"Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others... and your very flesh shall be a great poem." ~Whitman
FT: Programs like the Solar Boat competition need to find larger audiences at schools. Thank you @jswilliams for your years of dedication to this environmental education program that teaches teamwork, clean energy, etc. #IEedchat
A6:
Many from @puhsd have noted the steps in moving to supplemental solar power. I'd also add how @TerraBitesCafe is trying to make school food more appetizing, less likely to be wasted.
https://t.co/8m4uEWvnLu#IEedchat
A6: I am not sure if the school i have been doing my practicum in has a recycling program like my high school did but they do take a one to two camping trip to learn more about the environment. #ieedchat
FT: Teach about conservation of the land and how abundance can hinder our lives. Teach about having just enough and thinking about your neighbors and your community and you will see how much better off we are. #IEedchat
Ft: continuous environmental education as well as pushing more green efforts will hopefully change the attitudes of people and the destruction of the earth can stop #IEedchat
