Check in tomorrow night for a great Coaches learning from other coaches!
-
-
Since our state has cancelled athletic events for I will be here tonight! No Wed. middle school game 2nite
-
Tonight's topic is Live Scouting games vs scouting from the film...how you scout and what you get from each
-
I love scouting games and watching other teams operate their system
-
glad to have you, and I hope you're ok!
-
Go ahead and check in and let us know how your season is going so far...its the halfway point in Texas!
-
should be fine here, but our district schools are being used as shelters for ppl from the coast
-
Coach Blacha, Brookland-Cayce High, OL/TE, Head S&C Coach
-
I am Chris Fisher, OL coach at Ridge Point HS in MoCity, TX and the provider of all things
-
I gotcha...I've stayed through one hurricane...its a crazy night
-
Josh Hadden, Head Coach @ Aiken Middle School in Aiken, SC
-
Our format tonight will be Q1,Q2..A1,A2. Please include with all tweets and follow more coaches!
-
Let's get this going! Q1 on the way!
-
0-3, but getting better each week. Lost first game 50-14, last week was 8-6 w/ our conversion and a TD called back
-
Hugh Hood OL Coach at Ashley Ridge H.S. Summerville, SC...playing tight games. Struggling to over come errors in big spots
-
Q1: Which method of scouting do you prefer, live scouting the game or the video?
-
I have 28 kids, 12 have NEVER played football before. Progress being made, but some ppl only care about win/loss record
-
A1: Video. Need the data entry & breakdowns to know what they are doing. Benefit of live is for def coaches. Seeing speed of off
-
A1: For me its a mix...I get to see more of what they do on film, but I like to see how they play live and in the moment
-
A1: Video. Will likely have seen just about all of what they're going to do. Get tendencies
-
Mathew Bennett, Varsity OL coach and co recruiting coordinator at Westwood high school in Blythewood South Carolina
-
A1: I like video the best.
-
A1. I like some live scouting, but video is the way to go. You pick up so much watching film
-
Freddy Gonzalez, Co-Defensive Coordinator, Socorro HS
-
Q2: How many games of your opponent will you attend and how many videos do you exchange?
-
agreed. I can see a blitz watching the game, but I can break down how they execute it on film
-
A2: Don't attend any. Playing ours Friday night. 3 film exchange is the standard in SC
-
-
1: Video is critical for a full breakdown, so that is preferred. From DEF side it is good to see speed of OFF if live though.
-
A1: Live Scouting for Cadence, Line Splits, Sideline Mood, Player Size, Player Speed, Huddle, etc. Film for Tendencies, D&D, etc
-
A2: generally the last 3 and then it's hours of breaking down to find everything
-
A2: When I was a HS asst., we usually had last 3 games. Now as a MS HC, I take what I can get/is available
-
video is great especially nowadays but I'm old & think speed & quickness better assessed in person
-
There's my answer https://t.co/2BQrb3Ke4M
-
-
A2: Don't attend any. Playing ours Friday night. 3 film exchange is the standard in SC
-
A2: Only get to attend a game if we or opponent have Thursday game. 2 trade tapes most common for us in OK, sometimes 3.
-
A2: Exchange last 3 films. Live scout as much as possible. We have if we play Thursday, we scout Friday and vice versa.
-
A2: We try to attend at least 1 game of each opponent. We receive 3 films from each
-
we do the same, except through in the occasional Saturday game or scout
-
A2: Plus you get a Friday night off in the middle of the season. Take a minute for some family time.
-
A2, P2: Only games I see are the other division's jamboree in our conference. They play it 1 night, our division is next night.
-
would never be able to pull that off out here in rural Oregon way too many miles between schools & districts.
-
Q3: When you attend a game, what do you look for that you don't see in the film?
-
good point...travel distance is something I don't deal with in a suburban school district
-
A3: sideline demeanor. Are they front runners or fighters. Who is constantly on the training table.
-
A3: I look for what leads to the outcome, how they play emotionally, and I also watch how the coaches handle players
-
A3: Speed of OFF, Huddle or not, How they call plays, Personnel, Player #’s in case film quality is bad, OL Tips in stance etc.
-
A3: The shape they're in. Quickness, tired, hands on hips. Things you don't see in a play-by-play film. Adjustments in-game.
-
A3: Pace of play, injuries, total # of players, better idea of size in person, sideline culture, quality of concessions.
-
Same...are they with the team or sitting alone? How do they respond to coaching? I like watching their reactions
-
A3: what happens when they get down or have mistakes. Look for the blame game
-
Q4: How far in advance of the game will you watch film of the opponent?
-
A3: Demeanor of individual players, team, staff & if going to be a visitor, what community demeanor is. Then speed
-
A3: Cadence, OL Splits, Sideline Mood, Player Size, Player Speed, Huddle Type, Injuries, KOR Blocking scheme
-
A4: We will attend a game of an opponent when we can, but I don't watch any film of them until the weak to prepare for them
-
A4: Usually get a film a week before game. If I see them on a previous film, will make notes, but main focus is that week's team
-
-
A3: if we trade 1st 2 early, I'll enter data thurs & fri the wk b/f but don't watch or breakdown until we have all 3
-
A4: The Saturday before the game.
-
A4: if we trade 1st 2 early, I'll enter data thurs & fri the wk b/f but don't watch or breakdown until we have all 3
-
A4 cont: I don't like to look ahead in order to have total focus on each individual week
-
Q5: What notes do you take from a live scout compared to the film?
-
John Mitchell DBs Midwest City HS Midwest City OK. We are 3-2 after starting 0-2 hoping 2 go 2 4-2 this Friday.
-
A4: depends the team but usually Saturday before.
-
A5: More personnel notes from a live scout...with film I focus on the front and their stunts/blitzes
-
-
A5: I look the entire aspect of the game from the way the kids play thru good & bad & how the coaches respond to it as well.
-
A5: Seriousness of inj. Sideline culture; reaction after big play. Pace of play. Might make a note of who impresses live.
-
Q6: How do you incorporate what you take from both scouts into your game plan?
-
A6: From a live scout, I think you see players to attack...film you see what adjustments you can take advantage of
-
A6: Ton of weight in film. Live let's me know who to prepare for do to injuries.
-
A6: From film you get data that drives your calls, adjustments, etc. From live you get specifics of tempo & personnel.
-
A6: Film D and D, tendencies, formation for playcalling. Live Scout for Blocking Schemes, OL Splits, Cadence, for Practice Scout
-
A6: From live scout U can see the emotions from the big plays & from film U can dissect the big plays either 2 prevent or make.
-
Q7: Which method of scouting gives you a better idea of how your opponent plays?
-
A7: I get a better idea of their game flow from a live scout, but a better idea of execution from film...both are learning tools
-
A7: Film. Larger sample size. For the most part if a HS kid does it in consecutive weeks, he'll do it this week too
-
A7: Live scout can give U a feel of how physical & fast or lack their of a team is, but film can give more analytical info.

A quality coaching staff creates the most lasting advantage for a football program. These are the men that live the vision of the program.
